A shadow passed over the buildings of Amityville, as the dragon flew just under the cloudcover, circling the school for a landing. Riley was lying, face up, staring at the sky. She had absolutely no hold on the dragon other than a loose tentacle around his neck, and somehow she felt perfectly safe.

Something had definitely changed.

She reached up with her hand, and felt the freezing wetness of the cloud she was close enough to touch. It sliced open at her touch, raining down moisture onto her face. She squinted and shook it off, then turned over to look forward. She pulled up so that her head could rest on top of his, and looked out into the distance. Everything looked different. Like she was seeing it with new eyes. Different eyes. She could almost see what night truly looked like.

This is so weird. Riley laughed at her wording. I mean, it's a good weird. But it's weird.

Flight. Utter freedom. It was something he always enjoyed but having Riley there just added that extra layer of joy to it. It was a gentle flight, but regardless if they were just casually soaring about or zipping through the skies, it felt great. He was more aware of that special little feeling as well now that he had actually thought about it before.

But it was time to land.

Jericho was gliding towards the ground slowly to draw things out some more at least.

<> he chuckled mentally, giving a rather draconic smile in the process, <>

A little longer and his feet touched down onto the school grounds. Jericho let out a content sigh, then lowered himself so Riley could get off more easily whenever she was ready.

Malodore had been... well, it seemed as though it was out walking Luce a lot lately, but ever since that jack-damned field trip the plague doctor had been spending more time with everyone. Riley, its friends, and its beloved minipet. After a strenuous game of fetch, both plague doctor and pup were flopped on the grass - Luce stretched out into a puddle of flop, and Malodore propped up on its elbows, tilting its head back to look at the sky.

Or, at least, it was looking at the sky until a massive wing sliced between it and the stars. The plague doctor flinched back, startled, then shook its head as it realized who it was. "Jericho!" it called out, pushing itself to its feet and waving both arms overhead.

Luce blearily blinked awake, roused by the sudden movement and sound. The sight of a dragon overhead startled her from sleepy pup into alert mode in about two seconds - it only took that long to get her up on all four paws, barking stridently at the sky.

Riley rolled off of Jericho as if it were rolling out of bed, and her feet slammed hard into the ground. Her head snapped up, hearing the sound of Malodore's voice and the bark of Luce's excitement all at once. Her face lit up in joy. Malodore! She responded, even though it hadn't called out for her. Three hard strides later, she was in front of it, wrapping both arms around the poor unsuspecting plague doctor and lifting it up in the air to twirl it around in her arms. When she finally stopped, she slowly let it slide back down to it's feet, and pressed her face against it's beak.

.. Hi. The sheepish greeting was emitted.

Once Riley had gotten off of him, Jericho stood back up and looked as he heard Malodore's voice nearby.

"Hey Mal!" he called out cheerfully before replacing the pin to revert to his humanoid state. When that was taken care of, he stretched out his limbs and made his way to the rest of the group.

Riley looked rather happy, which was definitely nice to see.

"Out for a nightly stroll, doctor?"

"Ah-" was all Malodore had time to say before it was scooped up and twirled about. Its surprise was so total that its hat fluttered off its head before it could even think about grabbing hold of it - which worked out fine, since its arms ended up around Riley's shoulders anyway.

"Where did you come from?" it said, when everything had stopped spinning; it nuzzled the tip of its beak against her cheek, lightly. If it had had breath, it probably would have been breathless.

Once Jericho spoke, Luce tore across the grass and jumped up on the dragon's legs, bouncing up and down. Evidently, all you had to do to make Luce your lifelong friend was give her a steak bigger than her head.

"We were, yes," Malodore chuckled, pulling back slightly. It ran its hands down Riley's shoulders, then her arms, and settled them at her waist, stepping back slightly to scrutinize her at arm's length. Its beak opened in a smile. "Hypothesis: you were out flying." The 'you' was clearly meant to indicate both dragon and ithilid.

Riley didn't even have to answer it's question. It already knew. Her face lit up in lieu of a smile, nodding far too quickly. Yesss. She hissed happily, returning the nuzzle before turning around while carefully remaining within the hands at her waist. Luce, she almost whined. Already likes Jericho more than me. I am heartbroken.

She sounded far too happy to really be heartbroken.

She leaned back onto the plague doctor, turning her head slightly. I didn't think we'd see you out here tonight. I thought you might be busy. I was actually going to bother you later on to see if you wanted a walk, but, ah, I have come too late. At least we found you now.

Really, her good mood was just a little eerie. But she was enjoying the moment.

Chuckling, Jericho crouched down as Luce ran on towards him. He went on and scooped up the pup into his arms and gave her a nice scratch behind the ears before looking to the other two. It seemed that he was in a rather good mood as well. Though, with him it wasn't nearly as eerie as it was with Riley. It was good to see her in such a light state, however.

"Yeah, it's a great night to be out," he agreed, "Did you manage to rest well after the club meeting?"

While he didn't think Mal had partaken in the more strenuous acts, he was sure it had been busy tending to the welts, bruises, and cuts people no doubtingly sustained during the chaos of paintball.

... There was the whole issue with Chistof having his nose punched off as well, but he didn't know if Mal had still been around to fix that up when it happened.

"Indeed so," Malodore confirmed, nodding to Jericho. "There were twenty-two bruises and a few scrapes, but no serious injury. Once everyone was tended to, I left for my dormitory - while I am sure the steam room is most pleasant, I do not enjoy disrobing in the presence of others."

... It spoke matter-of-factly, but Riley would definitely pick up on the little flicker of embarrassment at that statement.

"You seem most happy, mia cara," the plague doctor added lightly, touching the tip of its beak to where Riley's nose would have been, if she'd had one. "Are you flush with success?"

Luce, for her part, thumped her tail against Jericho's side and licked at his chin.

He didn't smell like steak.

Darn.
PostPosted: Tue May 17, 2011 11:10 pm

When she felt the light touch on her face, she instinctively leaned against it, rubbing her face against it's beak over and over.

I am. Oh, I am. I wish I could be up there all of the time. In the sky, all of the troubles of the world seem to fade away. She released her arms and held them out like wings. I am only sad that my kind have not evolved to have wings yet. If they would only allow crossbreeding with other demons, I am sure we would have the trait by now, but no. Her eyes opened wide. Maybe I can have Barth fashion a pair. She looked up at Jericho wildly. Then we could go flying together.

Then again, trusting her life to Barth.. was that really such a good idea.

Ah, well. She toyed with the lapel of Malodore's jacket. I have what I have. I should not ask for more.

Smiling at Luce, Jericho continued to pet her lightly while looking between Mal and Riley.

"Ah well that's good at least. Then again I think the hardest thing that happened was West's fall," he nodded to the Plague Doctor. He noticed 'restitching a nose' was not on that list of injuries. Well, Mal didn't really need to know about that anyway. Christof could take care of himself.

"As nice as that sounds Riley... I'm not really sure if I'd trust Barth to make something like that.." he said with a raised brow. The dragon wasn't really aware of how handy the sloth demon was, but still.

"Hmm... it is not outside the realm of possibility," Malodore pondered; it released Riley and paced around her, amused. "Would you like to be a patchwork creature, Riley? Perhaps we can obtain wings from another source. Some lesser beast."

It was clear from its tone - and the emotions it radiated - that it was kidding.

Mostly.

Luce, meanwhile, gave up on steak; she uttered a little puppy sigh and contented herself with being petted.

Riley followed Malodore's movements with her eyes, and when she could not follow any longer she turned her body to do it.

Ooh. She genuinely considered the idea, despite Malodore's obvious tone. Oh, yes. If I were to expire, I would charge you with my remaking. And I should have wings. Yes..

She placed her finger against her chin and tapped it gently.

Yes.. definitely wings.

Glancing back and forth, Jericho watched in amusement as they spoke of turning Riley into a patchwork creature. That was... an odd image for him to be sure. That and he didn't really like the thought of her actually dying. Though, the thought of the Mindflayer having her own pair of wings was kind of nice.

"Only if you allow me to teach you how to properly use them," the dragon grinned, "I have been teaching Israfel how to fly and all."

"Ah, but I am afraid I would have to object most strenuously if you were to expire," Malodore said, gently; it twined its fingers with hers and squeezed. "But, Jericho... you are a fortunate creature." The plague doctor tilted its head back and looked at the sky longingly. "To be born with such a gift..."
