I was wondering if something like petroleum jelly or like, hand lotion work work as lube. I am a girl, and I don't want to get a nasty infection from anything but I would like something to 'help me along'. Thanks. biggrin

No, you should not use petroleum jelly or hand lotion as vaginal lubricants.
Hand lotion is meant for external use only. That means not in your v****a. It is meant to be absorbed into the skin quickly. That means it usually dries out pretty fast during sexual activity and won't keep you lubed up for long. It also has a lot of dyes, fragrances, oils, and such that can cause irritation, cause infection, or break down latex condoms.
Petroleum jelly is oil-based. Oil-based lubricants can stain your sheets, give you a vaginal infection, and make latex condoms more likely to break.
So what you want to get is a water-based lubricant that is actually meant for vaginal use. You can find them next to the condoms in a lot of stores or you can buy them online. Here is a site where you can see what's available, compare prices, and read reviews. http://www.undercovercondoms.com/lubricants-by-category.asp?CategoryID=42

Any water based store lube would be best.
I personally use extra virgin organic coconut oil, and have for over 2 months now. It's really wet, doesn't stain sheets or clothes even though it is an oil, and has anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties which is great since it can help prevent yeast infections and can help fight off anything else that might be bad. It also smells like coconuts, and you can use it in cooking. XD Just be sure to keep the jar for personal use separate from the cooking use one. ;D Also, do not use it with condoms since it is an oil and will break them down, so unless you are not using a condom while having sex use it for personal use only. =]

Yeah I kinda thought so., I was just checking. Thanks guys! Cheryl, how much is the coconut oil? I might just go and buy some.
And most condoms are kinda slippery anyway, I don't need to worry bout that!

My 454g tub of it was $17, which seems like a lot.. but you hardly need to use any, I'm going to have the tub for years! And I've been using it for cooking, adding it to Vaseline for lip stuff, and using it in my hair.
Depends on the condom, how much natural lubrication you have, and how rough the sex is. Most condoms are pretty lubricated to make it so they are less likely to tear, but they can dry you out, and if you are having really rough sex, you want things to be as lubricated as possible. =]

Hmm.... maybe I can find something smaller. But I do have some money, so I should be okay. I do believe my dad owes me some, too.... twisted
How viscous is the oil?
I don't really have much natural lubrication, so that's why I posted this thread. And water isn't very slick.... sweatdrop I usually like to be pretty wet, just make things go smoother.
I think I'll buy some tomorrow if I can find some at my grocery store... smile You're a real help biggrin

If it's not at a grocery store then it'll be at a health food store, I got mine from one since Safeway didn't have it and I didn't want to search around for it when I was right by a health food store!
The oil is really weird.. it's solid at room temp.. but as soon as it touches your skin it melts and it's REALLY smooth. It feels almost like water.. but really smooth and silky water! But it doesn't sink in right away so you don't have to reapply unless you are going at it for a long time. n_n
I know what you mean, especially since you don't always start out super wet and it's a pain in the a**! D:
Haha; no prob. =]
It's a good alternative to lube, especially since if someone finds it in your room you can say it's for your hair or for your dry hands. XD Smells delicious too. n_n

Thats great, so I don't have to worry as much about spillage!
We don't usually go at it for a really long time, so I shouldn't need to re-apply.
I share a room for the time being so being able to say that will help very muchly!

I share a room for the time being so being able to say that will help very muchly! Unless your room gets REALLY hot it will stay solid, if it does get liquidy though you can always get a travel sized shampoo bottle or something and pour some in there to squeeze out. =] My bedroom got to around 30 degrees and I opened the jar and it was fully melted! XD But at the usual 17-22 degrees it's solid.
It's really long lasting, like for me personally, it's better than lube. My boyfriend even agrees and he was super skeptical at first! He also likes that it smells like coconuts. lol
Haha; much better than trying to hide a bottle of lube in a shared bedroom where there isn't really anything else you use lube for! I have my jar on my desk and I get more questions about the jar of Vaseline than I do about the coconut oil. XD

Speaking of eating it.. my one cat goes NUTS over it. Boyfriend and I were going at it.. bottle it sitting on the bed.. Tibbers jumps up on the bed and starts licking the bottle and the bedsheets.. and you can hear his tongue licking everything which sounds HORRIBLE. D: He wouldn't stop.. it was gross. We still continued and finished even with a cat on the bed though. rofl
Do you have any health food stores? Like GNC or anything? Any organic grocery stores?

I spent like a month working on a MASSIVE lube chart for my university practicum this past semester. If you need certain brands or want to know what's best for what you have available in your area, let me know and I'll let you know what my research found. 3nodding

Nope, not a single one. I was in the health food store in GP yesterday and they had some virgin, not extra virgin oil. Would that be okay? I didn't buy it because I didn't have enough.
