There was still a little while before the sun fully set, but Boi had grown impatient. Tonight he felt restless and his cave was simply too small to contain him. Even in the dim evening light, his eyesight wasn't perfect, but it would likely grow darker soon and his eyes would adjust better. In any case he knew the swamp like the back of his hoof and could traverse it blind if he needed to.

Taking the first few steps out of his cave, he breathed in the evening smell of the swamp, a mixture of both pleasant and not so pleasant smells. But it was home, and it smelled like it to him. Exhaling, he moved farther out of the cave, allowing his eyes to slowly adjust to the brightness of the evening.

Not too far behind the stallion, Nefarious crept out of the darkness. The little otter tended to follow his master everywhere and was prepared to get or do anything that Boi might ask of him at a moment's notice.

"Master." He started. "You are up out early this evening. Is something troubling you?" He asked the mutated stallion.

Boi turned his many eyes to face his servant. "I feel restless tonight." He told Nefarious. "Something seems off. I'm not sure what it is but it has awoken me early. Keep look out, I intend to investigate." He ordered the otter. With a nod, Nefarious watched his master disappear into the darkness.

User Image It was often that the kelpi stallion ventured into unknown waters, as he had a particular thirst for fresh hunting grounds, but the idea that just maybe had bitten off more than he could chew came to mind. The water had turned murky a few miles down-river, and yet he had persisted in continuing forward. The ground was muddy, the river torn to bits by roots of ancient trees or the corpses of long ago fallen ones. It had become difficult to manuever, and yet Desvayne pushed onward with the feeling of a thrill shouldering its way into the forefront of his mind. He wasn't much of an adventurer, but something about this place just seemed so... forbidden. He loved it.

It had not quite occurred to the stallion to switch to land travel, as that was by no means a quick way to get around for the kelpi. His long, muscular tail often made it a chore to travel through the brush, and would be much heavier on land than it was in the water. Thus, he remained adamantly resigned to the idea that the water way would be better, despite the many shadows that lurked in this river's depths. They had not gone unnoticed, mind you, just carefully avoided for the time being.

With a sweep of his glowing yellow eyes, Des took in the sights once more, this time accounting for one too many shadows than he had previously kept an eye on. The spines along his back pricked and became rigid, his muscles tensed as caught sight of one of the creatures up ahead. A shadow that had previously kept its distance had now changed course to come towards him- its thickly scaled hide murky and green, with a wicked set of jaws and fangly teeth. No doubt about it, this thing, these shadows, were in fact inhabitants of the swamp.

Boi-Tatá stealthily made his way through the thick brush of the swamp, careful not to make a sound. Something was out there tonight, an intruder. The swamp alerted him to the alien presence. Having lived within it's shadows for years, the stallion had become accustomed to the sounds of it's inhabitants and was easily able to pick up on any oddities in their pattern. Tonight, there was far too much silence to be normal. The swamp should be filled with life, the buzzing of insects, the movement of animals making their way through the grasses and the trees, even fish leaping up to the surface to catch their nightly meal. No, something was definitely off.

a few hundred feet from his home, Boi spotted a rather large figure. It seemed that he had found the his intruder. Studying the stranger, he noted the fins suggesting a kelpie, he also noted the rather sharp looking teeth that the stallion possessed. He wasn't sure if the new comer was here to fight, but all the same, he'd rather avoid those teeth. As the stallion began to merge with the shadows, he spotted the creature headed towards the kelpie. Well now, it looked like Boi must just be lucky enough to have his problem solved for him. Grinning, he sunk back into the brush to enjoy the show.
