The building had first drawn her attention simply through the the stark difference between it and others on the street. While the other buildings lit up the display with bright colours, chunky text and exclamation marks, it seemed to almost be trying to conceal its true purpose, with ornate writing and heavy drapes.
Gellner Funeral Home was written in gold paint on the window, and a small card sat in the window below it, announcing that they had recently branched off into the exiting new world of taxidermy. Pausing, for a moment, Bebe had ended up pushing open the door and entering the building. The place had been empty, with the sounds of someone in the back room. Half a minute later she had left, but the next day she found herself there again, a resume in her bag.
Back home, the only taxidermy store had been an awful redneck place, with guns and trophies everywhere. She had been in the place once, before avoiding it for the rest of her youth. The idea of working in it had been akin to a nightmare, and the fear that all other such places would be the same had lurked in the back of her mind. This place though, had dignity, class and hygene. Admittedly, they had no help wanted sign up, but you had to seize opportunity when you saw it. By the throat, if necessary.

Devi didn't come to the family funeral home as often as she used to. Ever since her parents gave up their management positions and practically sold half the business to new ownership, she came by less often. She still volunteered around the shop, and now was even being paid for her hours, but that still wasn't much motivation. It wasn't like the days when she'd be packing floral decorations with her mom, or taxiderming a mouse with her dad. But just being there reminded her of the days, which was her main motivation for her returns.

As the door open, a tiny bell rang signaling a new customer. Devi stood behind the counter, flipping through a catalog of new caskets. She found that to be an excellent way to pass time - many of the caskets were really pretty. She looked up at the new customer. She seemed happier than most who walk into a funeral home. Of course, most are normally sad and depressed.

"Welcome to the Gellner Funeral Home, we're sorry for your loss. How may we assist you today?" she asked, clearly rehearsed with no enthusiasm or expression. She flipped the page of her catalog.

Looking around distractedly, Bebe didn't notice the girl quietly flipping through the book at the counter. At the voice, she started and one hand flew up to her mouth in surprise. Turning to the counter, she raised her eyebrows in surprise at the young woman behind the counter. If she noticed the flat tone, it didn't dampen her enthusiasm as her face lit up in a smile. Stepping forward, she dropped a surprisingly old-fashioned curtsy.

"Oh! Hello, I'm terribly sorry to disturb you, but you see - I found this place a few days ago and just had to return. It's not for any services, I must assure you. It's just - such a beautiful store."

"Uh," Devi paused. In all of her years at the funeral home, nobody had ever stopped in to simply compliment the store's beauty. In fact, right then it was rather filthy - covered in a thin layer of dust as she had neglected her duties to sweep the place up. However, the polished coffins still shimmered in the florescent lights. "Thanks? Feel free to look around, I guess. We don't get people coming in to compliment the store...ever."

"Are you new in town or something? I don't think I've seen you around before," she said, as if she was the type of person who ever goes out and sees people.

Pausing for a moment, Bebe thumbed her chin, nodding at the girls comment. She knew, in an offhand way, that she was the odd one here. After all, how many teen girls did she know who spent their days off exploring old funeral homes? Not nearly enough, in her opinion.

"Well, yes I admit to being a relatively new arrival to this city. I recently transferred to Crystal, and I'm doing a little bit of sightseeing. I do hope I'm not being odd, when I see things that charm me, I just must have a closer look!"

Pulling her mind away from the store around her, she stepped forward to the counter to see the girl behind it more clearly. Her vision, never at its best even with glasses, was straining itself in the dim shop. However she was slightly taken aback at the fact that yes, the girl behind the counter appeared barely older than her. Check one in the 'teen girls I know who visit funeral homes' column.

"Forgive me for not introducing myself, it always slips my mind. My name's Bebe Durand, It's a pleasure to meet you miss - ?"
