The red dragon was waiting. Waiting for his revenge. Waiting to make the final kill. But that blasted white stallion rarely left without an escort around him no thanks to those brimstone-blazing Skinwalkers. His tail lashed in agitation. At least the white mare had shown him where to find the old wind. And he still wore the old armor from the fight that resulted in their escape--an escape where Myrddin didn't get a meal...

He kept his leathery wings folded tightly against his body, pacing in further frustration. He could wait longer. Eventually guard would relax and he'd be the one to exact his revenge and the long waited meal.

He heard a noise in the forest, ears twisting in the sound's direction. Slowly, he crept closer, trying his best not to draw attention to whatever it was that dared thrash about in his forest.

Gold glittered through the forest as the light caught her pelt, Aine ran, ran as fast as she could, breathing heavily and sweat dripped down her beautiful golden pelt, curled mane flew behind her getting caught in some branches. Aine looked back suddenly as she pulled her mane free. Thundering hoof beats could be heard behind her from a much larger and stronger force, branches snapped clean off by whomever or whatever was chasing the golden mare. She'd never been so terrified before in her life she didn't even realize she'd run into another’s territory and right now she didn't care...

Earlier she'd accidently stumbled upon a hunting Kalona and become its prey in place of what it had been hunting before. She never meant to scare away the wolf, as barbaric as it was, she just happened upon the scene of the cornered wolf allowing it to get away. The stallion had become enraged forcing Aine to flee.

Here she was still running and she was starting to tire, she hadn't the stamina of a racer, or the strength of a warrior. She was a lover, a beauty not a fighter.

Someone help... She prayed.

He had been taunt and ready to pounce on whatever dashed in front of him, but what he saw stalled him. She, for her could tell it was female by the scent, was brightly colored. Her pelt seemed to glisten with the light and sweat. He was mesmerized. His treasure.

The time it took for his mind to stop being numb, a second creature dashed behind her. Bat-like, leathery wings and a spade tail marked him as a kalona. And it was chasing his treasure.

The dragon gave chase to the other stallion, snarling at him as he slowly caught up with the beast. He figured the other one thought he was crying out a warning about territory or helping chase down the poor gold thing, so he wasn't surprised when he lashed out with his tail at the dragon.

Myrddin caught hold of the tail with his teeth, still running to be even with the brute that would hurt his treasure. He spat the tail out of his mouth, slamming his shoulder against other.
"Back off!"

The other Kalona indeed was glad of the company; one large mare would be pleasant for a pair of Male meat eaters. This would make things easier, he could tell the golden mare was tiring; his mouth started salivating imagining the warm flesh that he would soon devour... He felt teeth on his tail. "What are you doing." turned and lashed out fangs bared "Thisss one cossst me my dinner!" the Kalona hissed before feeling the full force of the dragon, the male Kalona snarled as he was shoved against a tree, growling painfully he tried shifting to loosen the vice grip of the draconic stallion.

Aine glanced back franticly behind her, only to see the appearance of another, another Kalona, would this one be as hungry as the last? Aine was afraid. She didn't want to die or have blood all over her pelt or a scar for that matter. Oh gods her beautiful form all mangled by these two. Aine couldn't bear it, this was going to be the end of her, she was certain.

At least until she heard a voice, Aine rain behind a tree gingerly peeking out behind a tree to see what had occurred behind her, she was a distance away careful, not to get too close in case she had to bolt as well, but from what it seemed the larger male was defending her... Someone had sent her a knight in a unique form. Aine silently thanked whoever it was.

Myrddin was glad to see he had momentarily dazed the other so he placed himself in the path between him and the mare. His head was angled downwards, ready to use horns and head. "Hunger can be appeased else where. The gold is mine."

His tail was lashing violently as his back hooves dug into the ground for leverage. "Easier to find faster prey than fight over it."

The Brute growled angrily as the other male moved in-between him and his prey, he hissed this would be the second meal he lost but the other male did make a point, not to mention he wouldn't have to put in actual fighting effort to attain it, this male looked strong. It still irked him something fierce to loose twice in one day. "You'd better keep an eye on her..." the other male laughed letting the sentence trail, "I'll be watching." and with that left the other, to find new game and watch over his territory and the boarder of Myrddins.

Aine watched quietly as the other stallion left, shuddering she still didn't move, she wasn't sure what this other Kalona had in mind, not to mention he was scaled, she'd never seen anyone like him before. Aine was unsure to call out to him and thank him; he had just saved her after all, once the other male was clear out of sight Aine called to Myrddin.

"Thank you," she offered a smile, light reflecting off her hide as she moved.

He watched the stallion stalk off. He knew from his own personal revenge that that one would not forget this incident. He'd make sure next time to snap his neck before letting him walk away slightly bruised.

He slowly turned around, wondering if the vision he had seen earlier had been his imagination--a secret longing of his old bed of gold he'd lost before the Ring. But he was ensnared by the color of her pelt as she walked towards him.

He gave his wings a quick flex, letting them stretch to their full length as he let the tension from his body leave. He answered her gratitude with a slight nod, his eyes on the spun gold of her mane.

"Come, Treasure. He will forever be watching," he beckoned as if to lead her in the direction she had been running.

A sigh of relief escaped her once the other stallion gave her a nod, at least it didn't seem like he'd eat her like the last one. Perhaps he was one of those rumoured kind Kalona stallions, but there was no doubt about his fierceness it looked as though earlier if he had wanted to the other wouldn't have left without a scratch.

Aine's blue eyes took in the features of her knightly rescuer, once he calmed he was strong and even with such strange features as being covered in scales he was handsome, very much so, perhaps this was a fated meeting? Aine wondered but briefly, as the stallion beckoned her to come, Aine went to him and with a slight nod of her head agreed. "I'm Aine," she quietly gave her name though he seemed to have chosen one already.

Treasure, it had a lovely ring to it, It was a beautiful nickname befitting the golden mare, Aine was indeed beautiful like the gold humans had. Ohh imagine once she bathed she'd shine so much more than this once all that dirt and twigs left had been removed. She couldn't wait to bathe, if he was impressed by how she looked now, he'd certainly like it better then. Aine was curious to know the name of her new protector, but felt this was the wrong place to ask anger still lingered in the air here.

He slowed down enough to walk beside her, not wanting to give anything a chance to hurt his treasure. "Myrddin of the red dragons," he stated as coolly as he had beckoned her to move.

He finally let his fiery gaze settle on her before going back to his surveillance of their surroundings. He could tell there was a tarnish now to her image from her run in the woods. His mind settled on one of the local caves near the mountain range, away from the red phoenix herd grounds so he wouldn't draw attention of their watchdogs.

But first...
"We'll stop at the river before settling down for the night," he said just as they broke through the trees to the banks of the Rockslide Falls river. "I will keep watch if you wish to make more use of the current."

Red dragons? As in the mythical creatures she's heard about, Aine hadn't ever thought they were anything but stories, but then again he did truly look the part. "It's an honour Myrddin." she offered a little bow of her head as they walked. Aine had been saved by a dragon that was something to make the beginnings of a good story. Aine listened to Myrddin as he spoke of the river inside his territory.

"Wonderful," Aine said allowed she'd be able to clean herself and shine brighter than before, and she certainly didn't mind the fierce pair of eyes keeping watch, he seemed as enchanted by her as she was about him. Aine smiled "I'm not going to disappear if that's what you’re thinking." she assured, especially not with that evil Kalona out there. She’d rather not become someone’s dinner.

He reached over and pulled a twig from her mane now that she seemed determined to bathe. "I intend to make sure that you don't," he stated bluntly. It would not do for him to lose his treasure so soon after finding it. He gave her rump a nudge with his nose, careful not to poke her with the horn, as he moved into the sunlight. "Go, bathe."

He slowly lowered himself down to the ground to wait while she made use of the river. Though it might appear to others he was being passive, he was ever watchful of her and the tree line. But mostly he was keeping an eye on her. The words of that kalona were still ringing in his ears and he did not want to take the chance that she might slip away from him.

Aine let him pull a twig from her mane which also pulled her hair, though she tried not to shoe it, it did hurt. And she had plenty more twigs where that last one had come from. "Imagine how rude it would be for me to flee from my protector." she answered as he hunkered down telling her to bath and she trotted daintily toward the river. Her previous fears of the other stallion now long vanished with her new watchful protector.

Aine wadded into the water neck deep allowing the current to wash off most of the dirt on her hide and to allow some of the twigs to untangle themselves from her mane and tail floating down the river, after a while once she deemed most of herself rinsed, next came the grunt work, of making sure her hide was spotless and shining. The River had still missed a few spots and there where twigs still in her hair. And came closer to shore where the current was weaker and knelt in the water carefully pulling out twigs, wincing each time one yanked out one of her golden locks.

Finished, after hours of preening at her reflection in the water’s surface carefully detailing every hair on her golden hide, the mare shone like a golden fleece, or a pile of golden coins. Hair of curled woven gold fell across her shoulders as she returned toward Myrddin, “Finished.” She announced to the dragon who was rather patient, surprisingly, most stallions would have left by now.

He let out a small grunt to her response. Her comment wasn't required, he would never let his guard down around her. And so, he watched her and the tree line.

He let a softness appear in his eyes as he had watched her bathe, a softness that only one other kalona had seen--Malison. He quietly wondered about his prodigy, but stopped his reflection quickly. It was the past. He had a present and he couldn't fix everything of the past.

But he was on the right path to replacing his bed of gold he reflected as he saw the true shine of the golden mare near him. He had been right is guessing her color had been tarnished from sweat and dirt. He felt himself ensnared once more to her color, a longing filling his chest.

He turned his head away from her as he rose, pretending to check the trees.
"Good. It will be a long walk from here. Let me know if you wish to eat before we settle for the night," he said as he walked back into the forest.

Too busy had Aine been to see the dragons softness appear, for but a brief moment only to vanish like the whispering wind. Though her vanity was pleased as she noted he couldn’t help but gaze at her in all her brilliance, though Aine knew not the thoughts that plagued him as his eyes where mysterious fierceness concealing any feeling Aine might find within them. Didn’t they say Eyes where the windows into the soul? Some human saying Aine had heard long ago. Perhaps it was true after all why else would you try to conceal what their eyes showed.

I would quite enjoy a meal, that run took a lot out of me.” Aine admitted, though the bath did bring energy back into her stride as she strode proudly beside the stallion as he headed back to his forest. Aine knowing once more she shone like she had before she had been force to flee for her dear life.
