Kiume had only joined the pride a few months ago yet he seemed to settle into his duties quite easily. He had been a wanderer all of his life and it was hard to say what drew him to the Tuait'tekem. Things may have seemed just right but he had been so enveloped in patrolling and attending classes that he had failed to really get to know his fellow pride members. He found himself spending a lot of time by himself so he didn't know too many other lions yet...

Regardless of all of this Kiume was more than happy now that he had found a home and a purpose. Speaking of which, his patrol was almost over but he wasn't too anxious to return to the temple. He liked his pride duties and he felt rather restless when he wasn't patrolling. Squinting as the harsh sun hit his eyes, Kiume began to make his way back to the temple. What was he going to do with the rest of his day...

Mirashi was outside of the temple, eyes trained on the ground as she walked, leaving trails in the sand. She was disinterested in the people milling about around her, and was instead focused on what it was they were stepping on. "Be careful," she called out to someone who nearly stepped on one of her ingredients - a small plant with tiny fragrant flowers. She was ignored, and she hustled over to the plant, now slightly squished but still alived. She used her paw to prop it up, blocking out anyone around her.

She laid on her stomach, not aware that she looked rather silly, as it appeared she was merely playing with the plants. She carefully cut a few flowers from the little leafy plant, starting a pile. "I'll only take a few, until the plant recovers," she muttered to herself quietly, trying hard to keep the plant alive and still gain her ingredients. She had a job to do, after-all.

Walking quickly through the sand, the lion made his way back to the temple rather quickly and then he noticed her. The lioness was saying something inaudible and then she began tending to something on the ground. What was she doing? He was about to approach but then something stopped him mid-step. Kiume wasn't exactly the... smoothest lion and it didn't help that he got all tongue-tied when he was around the opposite gender.

He kept second guessing himself and then eventually retreated to a large rock outside of the temple. Stepping up onto the rock, Kiume laid down and stretched lazily. The sun's rays felt therapeutic as they hit his fur and he felt his tense muscles relaxing. Though a distance away, the white lioness was still in his line of sight and he couldn't help but glance up at her every few moments. His thoughts kept going back and forth at wanting to approach her or not and at this point, he realized that he probably missed his chance. That wouldn't stop him from observing her and her strange actions though.

Having gathered all she dared to pick from the plant, Mirashi awkwardly nudged the flowers onto one of her paws, bending it so that they rested on the pad of her paw. She awkwardly wiggled, pushing herself upright with one front paw, keeping the other bent beneath her so as to keep the flowers safe. It took her a little while to stand, but she managed it eventually.

Huffing a breath, she scanned the area, disregarding any people she happened to see. She was social, in a way, but when she was working she had little interest in interacting with others, unless they were talking about perfumes. She began to walk - with a limp, due to how her paw was held - towards another small plant. She didn't recognise it, so she lowered her head to sniff at the leaves, wondering if it could be used for anything.

She pulled back, pulling a face. It was...not an appealing smell, she decided, casting a disappointed look at the plant. It smelt like... a plant. How disappointing.

Soaking in the sun's rays for a few more moments, Kiume opened his eyes and realized that she was still there. Though she was limping now? What exactly was she doing? It seemed like there was something in her paw... Pausing for a moment, the lion got up and began to walk towards her before he could think twice about what he was about to do. He was already nervous enough...

Attempting to put on a smile, Kiume could already feel his heart racing and he was pretty sure that he looked like a fool right now. It would only be a few minutes before his face got flushed so he needed to move quickly. He tried thinking of some sort of excuse to approach her and it seemed like asking her about what she was doing would be appropriate.

"So, what do you have there?" He motioned towards her paw and was rather surprised that he didn't stutter as he spoke. She was even prettier up close...

Mirashi was scanning the area again when he approached, and was so caught up in her own thoughts and trying to find more plants to harvest from, that she jumped when he approached her and spoke. She dropped the flowers in her paws, her head swinging around to stare at him in confusion. Realising what she'd done, her eyes went wide and she stepped back, hurriedly scooping up the flowers. They'd be all sandy otherwise, and sandy perfumes were just not as nice as crisp clean ones!

"Flowers," she told him, as she tried to scoop the flowers back on to her paw. "For perfume. Gah, go away sand!" she directed the last comment at her paw where the sand seemed to cling to the blooms.

He couldn't believe that anything had actually come out of his mouth in the first place. He almost felt relieved but then realized that he needed to continue to the conversation! Uh oh... What was he supposed to say now?

It took him a few seconds to realize that she had dropped her flowers and Kiume's eyes went wide. "I'm so s-sorry! I didn't mean--" He felt bad that he had startled her and he reached out to hold her paw steady. "Here, try this." Leaning over, Kiume exhaled gently trying to remove the pieces of sand that had gotten lodged in the minute crevices in the petals.

It seemed like it was successful but there was still sand in the flowers. But then he realized that he was touching her paw and he panicked. Jumping backwards, Kiume couldn't help but stutter now. "I-I'm sorry. I hope that your f-flowers are alright." Frowning, Kiume gave an exasperated sigh as he realized that he had messed up already.

Mirashi almsot felt bad when he apologised, but it was his fault. He had caused her to drop her flowers and ruin them, but, she conceded, at least he tried to fix it, even if it didn't work completely. She twisted a little, peering at the flowers after he had blown air over them to dispel the sand.

She hadn't noticed, or really cared, that he had touched her paw with his. She was more focused on the flowers.

"Better," she said quietly, peering at the sand on them. Less than before, but still more than originally. She raised her head to look at him. "Did you need something?" She asked, not impolitely, but she really hoped he had a reason - else he had ruined her flowers for nothing. Perhaps he wanted a fragrance...

Frowning, Kiume still felt incredibly guilty as she attempted to get rid of the sand. What was she collecting them for anyway? Flowers didn't seem that useful in the desert... Though he was too terrified at this point to ask her and what if she was horribly offended.

It took him a second to realize that she was speaking to him and he felt the blood rushing to his face once again, which he was sure that she would notice. "Oh. No. Was just wondering what you're using the flowers for..." Oh boy. He just told himself not to ask that question but he asked it anyway... Kiume just wanted to face palm so badly and he was beginning to hope that she hadn't noticed how ridiculous he was being...

Kiume didn't have much hope for this meeting and he would be lucky if he got out of this and she forgot who he was.

Mirashi felt disappointed. Clearly, he was not after a scent if he didn't even know why she was collected the flowers - which meant he hadn't really approached her for any good reason, though she supposed the pursuit of knowledge was admirable at least.

"To make perfumes," she explained to him. "or fragrances, as some people call them. Mostly to decorate the temple, but I am sometimes asked by individuals to make them a fragrance." She gave a bit of a sly smile, always amused by people's insistence on such things, she made mention of "many ladies believe that the right scent can captivate any male they desire, so those are asked for quite often."

She peered back down at her flowers, and hopped a little, starting a slow, limping pace towards where a rock sat. She could collect her flowers and place them there until she was ready to return to make the actual scent itself, she decided.

Using flowers for perfumes wasn't exactly the first thing that came to mind for Kiume and he was glad that she explained it for him. "That's fascinating and makes a lot of sense. I always noticed that the temple has very specific smells." Tilting his head, Kiume couldn't help but blush wildly as she mentioned something about fragrances being able to bewitch males. "O-oh. I don't know about that." Chuckling nervously, he had no idea how to respond to that because he was pretty sure that she didn't mean anything by it... or did she?

Females were so confusing! Wriggling his toes in the sand nervously, Kiume wasn't sure what to say now. He immediately regretted not filtering his words before blurting out the next thing. "I'm sure a female like you wouldn't need a fragrance to attract males."

Oh god.

She hummed in response to his comments, not bothering to form a verbal response - most of what he said were merely statements of fact or opinion, nothing she really had to respond to, so why should she bother? However, his last comment surprised her, and she glanced back, having placed her flowers on the smooth surface of the rock.

Interesting, she mused, but she nodded her head - the fact that it was flattery went over her head completely. "I certainty wouldn't," she said, ignoring the fact he said 'wouldn't need', taking it as him realising she simply wouldn't use them at all. "I wouldn't use perfume - if only because it doesn't really work." It wasn't really a secret. Perfumes could attract another, but they couldn't make them fall in love...and well, if it did, then that was not the sort of male that Mirashi wanted around her anyway, if they were fooled by merely a pretty scent and a pretty face. "Perfume can be used to enhance a person's beauty, yes, but it cannot create lasting attraction - anyone who is fooled by an appealing scent is not worth the time anyway."

Kiume obviously didn't understand the dynamics between males and females in the first place so he knew he shouldn't be commenting on anything of the sort. "S-sorry." He didn't even really know what he was apologizing for in the first place but Kiume had given up on this conversation the moment he had opened his mouth.

He began to muse about the whole idea of perfume attracting a mate and he had no idea why he even spoke his last comment aloud. He would never want a lioness to just be attracted to him because of looks or something as fleeting as scent. Sure it was important but hardly that important... "You're completely right. Forgive me for taking up so much of your time." Bowing his head slightly, Kiume smiled slightly at her before turning away.

Mirashi watched the male with a bemused expression on his face. He was leaving already? She supposed he had been talking for a while, but keeping time had never been a strong point of hers, so she had barely realised that she had been, in fact, conversing with the male. She shrugged her shoulders.

You wasted my time no more than others who bother to speak to me,” she said simply – not reassuringly, but not coldly either, just a simple statement of fact. She did not try to call him back when he turned away, already drifting back into her perfume filled world.

She gazed intently at the flowers before her, her mind concocting new scents from those which floated tantalisingly passed her nose. Some might have considered her selfish – her flowers, her mind, her nose – but Mirashi was every perfume she made, and perfumes were her job. Simple. Her world was simple.

This interaction made him even more flustered at this point and he just wanted to die of shame now. Even though it really didn't seem like she minded, he just felt so embarrassed. Thankfully he had already turned away or else she would have seen him blushing intensely. He had a habit of making things seem a lot worse than they really were especially when it came to females. It was better than being hopeful and then getting crushed when something like this happened...

When he heard her respond, Kiume should have felt better but he really didn't. "Sorry again." Mumbling so that she could probably barely hear him, the lion turned away to sleep off the humiliation he experienced today.
