Heaven and Hell.. it had been an exhausting couple of days.
After meeting a character like Fuuenken anyone would have felt run down, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. The strange lion had certainly given Atashmah Sayeh a whole lot to stew on.
Grow up. He said. Stop running away. He said. Protect the ones most important to you. He said.
Even if it means protecting them... from me? The longer his thoughts reeled, the more restless the young, blood moon Pad became, but at least it gave him something to consider besides running away from his pride. Even more, it gave him an excuse to avoid the reason he had been sent out here in the first place. The first female to start his harem.
Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if.. No.
A mental conversation was rounding in Atash's mind as he carried a fleet, young gazelle buck towards the shade of a small cluster of trees. Mouth wrapped securely around the beast's throat as the limp corpse scraped upon the ground. Long, lanky legs carefully weaving around those that threatened to trip him. Hunting had never been a problem for the loner as it might have been for some males in the Ukuucha who allowed their banu to capture their meals for them. Living a decidedly solitary lifestyle away from his family and the rest of the pride meant being self sufficient. And though normally Atash settled for hunting smaller game, he enjoyed stretching his legs on the open plains. Taking full advantage of the swiftness of his adolescent frame. All too soon he would be too heavily muscled to catch the quicker prey.
Maybe there are ways that I could.. No.
Despite every best effort though, every attempt to theorize was met with a brick wall of resistance by the demons that lurked behind his eyes. The ones that had been there since he was just a tiny cub. Always mocking him. Always standing in the way of a normal life. Hindering. Refusing. Blaming. Accusing.
Maybe they can learn to.. No.
IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO OFFER ADVICE THEN SHUT THE ******** UP! Atash finally snapped, in frustration. Dropping the carcass as he reeled around to face the opposite direction as if directing the enraged and awkward monologue at some unseen companion. All around him flighty creatures bolted, startled by the sudden and unexpected outburst. Sharp, garnet eyes narrowed, feeling long, lean muscles writhe beneath his pelt with a creeping sense as if he could jump out of his skin.
s**t.. this is exactly what you all want. The words were quieter now, barely above a whisper as a thickly maned head sunk between his shoulders in grim defeat. Low enough that he could smell the dirt beneath his paws. Chuckling mirthlessly. I don't know if this is for me.. this optimistic thing.
Too bad Fuuenken wouldn't let him quit. He could feel the outrageous redhead standing over him with disappointed eyes, hidden under a mask of disgust. Atashmah couldn't explain it, but it annoyed the hell out of him to see the rogue looking down his nose at him. Damn you.. why can't you mind your own business?
Collecting himself and his kill the landscaped figure continued grudgingly upon his way as the sun arched towards the distant horizon. Lazily sprawling across the sky in an arc that suggested it would soon be sliding its behemoth weight towards the earth to make room for the moon's eventual reign.

Mjyd al-Asfh was...mmm. Awake. Something disgustingly loud had started yelling obscenities below her. What a ruffian, didn't he know a lady needed her beauty sleep? With a lingering yawn that she was thankful was hidden by the leafy branches she'd climbed into to rest in (yawning was so very unladylike) she rolled onto her side and looked down through the limbs of the tree. Aha, indeed it had been a male. He paused just a moment and seemed to be muttering to himself.
She was still idly observing him when he started to move on, dragging a juicy looking gazelle with him. Mjyd looked around at her slim waist and shapely hindquarters. Gazelle was murder on the figure, but she was hungry...and the male, crazy as he might be, was rather nice to look at. At least, she hadn't seen a moon-marking like his before. On a passing whim of fancy, she decided to engage the young male. There was food and perhaps pleasurable company to be had, and he was almost, almost as pretty as her. She slithered down from the tree silently, landing with a clearly practiced grace. Light and quiet on her feet, she took a few steps after him.
You won't find a better patch of shade than this, handsome. Get back here and tell me your name, won't you? She was pushy, and confident, and beautiful. And used to getting what she wanted. She shifted her stance to show off the vivid patterns in her fur the best, and smiled when a passing breeze made the trees above rustle--the dappling lights through the branches made her coat flash and shine like water. She was certain he wouldn't be able to resist the offer of such gorgeous company.

In a place as populated as the rogue lands it wasn't uncommon to hear a variety of unusual sounds and unfamiliar voices, then again, such an experience had never been terribly out of the ordinary for Atash. Flinching ears--which seemed determined to catch every nuance of static that rippled over the plains--caught the airy, feminine yawn so seamlessly that it was overlooked. Her elegant landing was a little harder to neglect, though when the young Pad turned to guard his vulnerable backside he didn't expect to find a lioness.
Leopards, servals and even some hybrids were frequent tree dwellers. Light on their feet and with sleek, sinewy builds. It was one of these that the male had been prepared himself for. A gaze like ruby gems, nearly hidden behind the untamed and disorderly mane that threatened to completely curtain his visage, wavered with the surprise Atashmah had automatically attempted to extinguish. She was a vision in that smooth, lagoon blue coat, the color blazing under the dappling sunlight. Rosettes in electric pink freckled her shoulders, drawing his attention to the smooth lines of her figure. More aware than the inexperienced adolescent really would have preferred as the dwindling heartbeat in his chest began to quicken.
She was stunning, whoever she was, but Atash knew her sort all too well. Reminded of the pale slice of heaven that had become so inexplicably taken with him. Shiva'soheila. It was only a matter of time before that rebellious spirit took wing, she'd been acting increasingly shady before his departure. Not that the introverted teen could blame her. Their relationship, mockery of the Pad-Banu social hierarchy as it was, was pathetic at best. The gorgeous ones are always the most trouble.
Admitting the fact to himself grimly a wide stance was taken over the gazelle at his paws. Half twisted in place as the inviting mink offered him solace in the cool shadows of her tree, Atash addressed her in a surprisingly dismissive manner. He perhaps didn't have quite the same view of females as rogue males might have, shoulders rolling as this slave to the red moon chose to decline the half demanded proposal of company. I'd... rather not.. if it's all the same to you.

Oh poo. He was going to try resisting? That almost made Mjyd laugh out loud. She knew her looks could kill, she knew that he was running scared, that he was receptive to her looks, and if she could just play her cards right (and she always, always did) that he could be hers. And that gazelle too.
She took two steps towards him, one gently in front of the other in a perfect line. Her body rippled, her coat shimmering in waves as she slipped fully into the sun. She was a glimmering goddess of all she looked upon, and she held herself as one. What's the matter? Don't worry, beautiful, you're good enough for me. She eyed him, his stance over the gazelle, his half-hidden eyes. Mmm, yes. Good enough. She was detecting a bit of resistance, but not to her...hmm. To himself? A lack of confidence? That was just silly. He had looks, and could obviously hunt. He should be flaunting it, not slinking off.
She posed, as if pondering something deeply, and then (horror of horrors) she started walking towards HIM. I understand darling, I really do. But what's the harm in a little company, hmm? It gets so lonely out here by myself. Can you blame me if I jump at a chance for some shared time with someone so handsome? Her voice went from pushy to dramatically lonely sounding. It was harder to change her posture. Queen bees didn't just simper and sulk and pander for what they wanted. It was beyond her why she was even giving him this second chance. She must be hungrier than she thought.

Watching the sun glint against that ethereal coat radiantly as the assertive lioness flowed from the shadows in motions more fluid than the winding rivers that slithered through these humbling lands Atashmah simply stared. His expression remaining blank. Carefully guarded. Perhaps even somewhat annoyed by the fact that even her choice of movements seemed to suggest that she was being quite gracious, generous even in her willingness to gravitate towards him. As if what he wished for wasn't the complete opposite of such a tantalizing offering. The words that dripped from her maw like honey, soothing his quivering ears, made the young Pad snort defiantly.
Deciding he had heard enough from the lion charmer for one day, Atash's answer was firmly dismissive. His eye was on another patch of trees far off on the horizon and it was time to make his break. I'm afraid you've mistaken me for someone who might be taken in by your beauty. You would be best off seeking companionship elsewhere. I've got no time for you.
Seemingly disaffected by the dramatic overtones of isolation, the tall Ukuucha resident had a feeling that this female was hardly ever left wanting for company. Gathering the scruff of the gazelle between powerful jaws before he began his journey for the distant shade once more. Atash could only hope that his brush off would cause her to lose interest and--possibly even with a few choice words that wouldn't have been entirely undeserved--leave to seek a rogue elsewhere on the open plains.

Oooh, he was almost frustrating! A hard little pretty nut to crack. Well good thing her jaws were so strong from talking her way in and out of trouble. She let his comment about her looks roll off her like water. She WAS beautiful, and even if he pretended not to be interested, she knew better. Sooner or later the boys always came to their senses (or lost them, rather) and were won over.
"Oh poo, well that's alright. You'll find I can be very, very patient. I don't mind tagging along." Her eyes trailed down the length of him and she smiled, falling into a quick high stepping jog (to keep her feet dirt free!) behind him. "Besides, you look like you need some attention. The brooding, lone-lion look works wonders with your complexion by the way, handsome. Oh. Oh dear, I'm afraid I've forgotten to get your name. Do be a doll and tell me, won't you?"
At this point in the game she was less interested in a free meal, though surely she could still weasel it out of him, and more interested in the lion himself. He seemed like the type few could get to know, and he had such a ravishing look, he would be the perfect project for her to grace with her presence a while more. While he slunk along she slid like a river through the long grass. Somehow she managed to check herself on each step to avoid both sticking plants and mud or dirt that might get on her fur while making it look like she was just enjoying the scenery. Habits so long kept became second nature, after all. "It really is a wonderful day for a little trip. You have such fantastic ideas, lovely. And so kind of you to want to treat me to some fun!"

She's following! She's following. She's following. Following! She's following! Shut UP. Atashmah mentally demanded of the whispers that ghosted between his ears. Voices only he seemed to hear. A plague only he seemed to possess. Some negative affect of being taken fro the spirit filled Swamplands, maybe? It was hard to say considering the sunset colored teen knew very little about his home away from home. If the place of his birth could have even been called home.
Tch. Lean shoulder blades tensed into mountain peaks beneath his deep ochre fur. It was hard to think about the mother and brother that were little more than a fairytale now. With no memories of them, how could he even be sure they were real? That anything about his past before the Ukuucha was real? Frustration. Animosity. Despair. Loneliness. Confusion. Isolation.
These were the emotions that had eaten away at Atashmah all his life, until there was little left but the hollow husk of a creature that wandered the savannah now. He wasn't consciously searching for someone to fill that void, but perhaps his journey into the rogue lands had been less as a means of escape and more a quest to find a cure for the emptiness.
The faint murmur of the lioness' jaunty stride beside him was a strange cadence in his ears. Even despite his attempts to ignore her, she persisted and for some reason Atash found the company of her stride soothed some part of himself he hadn't realized was aching.
With his jaws filled with the flesh of his prey, keeping the limp body from dragging upon the ground, there wasn't much of a means to answer her. Not that he wanted to anyway. The fact that the voices seemed so enticed by her made the antsy lion uneasy. She'd asked for his name a second time and though he still wasn't yet ready to answer Atashmah was becoming aware that the lagoon beauty still possessed no moniker of her own.
----- Several Miles Later -----
With a quiet power in his step, the prowling predator had continued upon his journey in search for a place to settle down and eat. Though his eye had been set on a nearby patch of shade, in an effort to lose the curious female he had traveled far longer than intended. Until the muscles in his neck began to ache with the weight of the beast between his jaws.
After the first mile it was becoming increasingly clear that she wasn't going anywhere that wasn't directly shadowing him.
After the second mile Atashmah Sayeh had become increasingly impressed with the fact that her attention span had remained glued to him this long, despite the lack of conversation. Not that she didn't talk enough for the both of them. Her stamina was equally as bewildering.
By the end of the third mile and some ways beyond the guilt had finally settled in. For reasons completely beyond his comprehension she had stuck beside him far longer than anyone else would have. It certainly spoke volumes. As the vixen had stated earlier in the day, she apparently always got what she wanted and perhaps.. Atash could handle that if he was the one dictating when and where her conditions would be met.
Slowing his pace from a leisurely jog, his long legs made easy work of the landscape, but that didn't mean that carrying his meal hadn't left a toll on his muscles. He was tired and fairly certain that his companion was too as he placed the buck on a bed of grass beneath the shade of a horseshoe shaped semi-circle of trees.
Standing over his kill a drawn out gaze absorbed the lovely shape of this electrifying female. The late afternoon was beginning to slip away leaving the sky brushed with a orange glow that set off the rusted colors of his pelt. It didn't seem entirely possible, but she seemed to have a body that was perfectly accentuated against the lighting of any skyline. Heaven and Hell..
When at last he spoke there was no defeat in Atash's voice. What's your name? But rather a dry amusement. You waste too much energy talking.. come eat.

It was safe to say that Mjyd didn't really enjoy the long hike that the male led her on, but she decided that it would do wonders for her figure, and that to admit defeat or even to look tired at the end of the long march would ruin her chances of wooing this stubborn male. And so she whiled away the time with idle talk, on topics of most interest to females. Trinkets and how the weather could change one's fur from laying flat to bushy, food, travel, anything that came to mind and she felt confident enough to speak on without seeming naive.
By the time he called a halt to the march she was more than ready for it, but rather than lying down or falling to panting, she simply sighed and stretched her legs. She could be tired later, he was finally seeming to be paying attention to her. She struck a nonchalant pose for him as he eyed her, fully aware that she was of more interest to him now than when they'd first met, and then sidled closer at his summons to eat.
"My name, handsome? It's rude to ask a lady her name without giving your own," She was still earnest in trying to get his name from him, "But I think I will make an exception for you, since you asked so nicely. And kept me company all this time." She dipped gracefully and tore a positively dainty morsel from the carcass, chewed in well-mannered silence, inspected her lips for any mess, and then finally offered up her name. "My name, darling, is Mjyd al-Asfh. But my close friends just call me Mjyd." Her half-lidded eyes hinted at just how close those close friends were, and more, they glimmered with a veiled invitation to him to be one such 'friend'.

By all that was unholy, she was a talker wasn't she? Somehow, even when asked a direct question, this one managed to make an entire conversation out of it. Sighing to himself Atash gave the excess conversation little attention, digging into the soft flesh of his catch.
He tried hard to hide a grimace when his tongue was met with cooling meat and internal fluids, all thanks to his effort to lose her. Foolish an idea as that had been. This journey was turning into a collection of life lessons it seemed.
Mjyd al-Asfh.
Though he certainly appeared to be paying the lioness no mind her name stood out clear as day. As wordy as she was. What a mouthful. Despite that fact, this servant of the red moon was uncertain if he wished to call her anything less and be considered on the same terms as she had other passing males. The idea of it made his hackles raise in irritation.
Swallowing the meat that filled his mouth a serpentine tongue curled over his muzzle, licking away the blood that collected on his whiskers. Staring hard at Mjyd. It was the first time he'd glanced at her with anything less than a begrudging admiration and mild annoyance. There was definitely judgment being passed behind swirling garnet hues from the opposite side of that carcass. So you mean to tell me you've followed me half a day's travel across the savannah for a meal and a... a quick romp? If that is your intention..
He hesitated on the words. At first balking at the awkwardness of the statement, but only until his obvious disapproval--verging on disgust--settled into his tone. She was beautiful, but not terribly bright. A low growl slithering into the space between them. ..Then you've wasted your time.
...and mine. The words lingered on his tongue, unspoken.

Her eyes danced, reflecting the last of the sun's fading light, at his tone and expression of disgust. How funny he was! Gullible and pretty? Oh, there was so much fun to be had here. Of course, she wasn't stupid, and realized she'd hit upon something he disliked. Very well. She could play that game. It wasn't as if she was a harlot, after all. Certainly a romp now and then for food (when she was starving) or just pleasure was one thing, but she would never make a living off it. She was akin to a fine tapestry one hung on a wall. It could be beautiful and well made, but laid bare on the ground for all sorts of men to stride over, it would quickly fade and ware thin. Did she look worn thin? She didn't think so. But it WAS fun leading him along.
Of course not, my sweet sunset. If that was all I'd wanted, she lifted a paw, flexing delicate but razor-sharp claws. I could have had it when you first passed me by. No dear, no. Despite what you think, I'm not all that garish. I am a lady. And what lady would not enjoy simply the company of a fine male? Again with those half-lidded eyes. I merely meant that I have friends who are dear to me, and that, once drawn close, they prefer to call my simply Mjyd. I meant nothing ill...Though it seems perhaps you did. She fought back a smile, thinking she'd successfully turned his disgust back on himself.
She bent to the body and took another careful bite from the flank. No nasty organ-juice for her, thank you. Cool meat was one thing--that slime was for lesser beings. Not very gentlemanly at all, dear, but I shall forgive you. On one condition, of course. Her eyes fixed on his. Oh yes, she knew what she wanted, and was set on getting it. Poor Atash. You let me come with you to wherever it is you're going, for as long as I please. Rude as you have been, I find you charming. And It has been so long since I had good conversation. If you feel up to it, that is.
