I used to have such promise. I might have even had potential... but now I'm a fat, likely brain damaged 24 year old who's given up any hope of getting a job. Can't remember how long it's been since I had a friend who I could talk to face to face... last time I went out for fun... the feeling of contributing and earning money. Can't remember what it's like to have parents who are proud of me, to be able to pay my debts on time. I've lost all appetite and I feel utterly hollow. Dad actually got so mad at me he kicked me in the knee twice. Not hard though.

No matter what you're doing now or what you've done in the past, you still have potential. You may or may not have the potential to cure cancer or anything like that. But you definitely have the potential to try your best and to be a good person. And that's all anyone can really ask of you.

If you're having trouble finding a job and feeling good about yourself right now, maybe you could look into some volunteer work. Volunteer positions can turn into paid positions sometimes. And even when they don't, they can be listed on a resume, help you make friends, and help you feel better!

Seconded. 3nodding You can look for stuff in your community based on what your interests are, and go from there. They can also help you network to other organizations, potential job opportunities, etc too!

These are good and helpful suggestions. Thank you. I was able to eat later that day, but frankly, I need money now.

Is there income assistance ("welfare") available where you live? Or if it's just food you need, what about food banks or other organizations which give away food to people who need it?

I feel like an idiot for saying it, but the issue isn't availability of food, I had, due to a stern reprimanding and my clinical depression, temporarily lost my appetite and the desire to sustain myself. It didn't last.

Well... better, I s'pose... Could be better. I start a college course tomorrow... It just makes me wonder how old I'll be before I finally get everything straight. If ever.

It's never too late. heart One of the coolest things I've ever seen was in my university psych stats class several years ago. In a class full of young people, there were 2 gentlemen who were in their 60s, if not their early 70s. Working on their BA! mrgreen

I'm dating someone who is almost 27, and he doesn't have his life together either. Won't get his GED, doesn't know what his motivation in life is, etc etc. You're not the only one. And it may take time, but you can get there. 3nodding

Well, I DID get a pretty positive reaction at a job interview today... and... I'm beginning to remember what it's like to feel positive.
