"So what's up?" Hayes asked. Faleen looked tired, harried and - not to put too fine a point on it - charred, but here they were, in front of the robotics lab after midnight. This wouldn't be cause for concern if they were leaving or returning after a break, but his fellow agent seemed dead set on starting a project in the middle of the night, which Hayes privately thought was inadvisable when she was flaking bits of burnt cloth. It was giving him a barely detectable bemused crease in his brow.

Faleen, while using a composed and rational individual, felt quite rattled after she returned from the failed mission.
She wasn't used to feeling like this, she knew that if she didn't get down to the lab right now and find out for sure if her suspicions were correct or not, she wouldn't be getting any sleep at all.

Hayes just happened to be up as well when they had left the rec room after a few games of poker, and Nyx had granted Faleen permission to borrow her Rocket Dex that had been converted into a laser.

Said Dex was currently held in her hand, briskly entering the robotics lab. setting the Dex down onto a work station that held completely destroyed remains of her own Rocket Dex.

"I don't know how much you know already, but from the conversation you can guess that we spent the day stuck in the same cave as Team Galactic." She seemed very straightforward about this information.

She walked up to the G-ball, that was, by now, fully assembled again.
She placed her hands on it, lifting it up and checking on the connectors that they had since plugged into the charging port.
"Well, I got the leader, Deimos to talk about the G-ball... he told me... some information I'm highly reluctant to believe."

Here she broke off of her story, and pointed to the consul. "Set the calibration to 60.33 and run the power in bursts of 80 per second, please."

One of Hayes' guiding principles in life was 'never get between a woman and a laser.' It had never been very prominent, but it was suddenly at the top of the list. Faleen was moving with a purpose, and as long as she wasn't about to do something dangerously stupid (or stupidly dangerous) he was content - if somewhat puzzled - to play Igor to her mad scientist. It was a bit like being back in grad school.

"Yeah?" the tech acknowledged, moving into the lab behind her, adding "Sure" as he booted up the console and waited for the appropriate program to load.

Blink.

"Wait. He just told you about it?"

Faleen threw a hand up with an incredulous expression, not looking away from the monitors as the settings were displayed and the readings starting to run.
"Yes, he just... started talking, like it was nothing" She replied "I simply had to ask, and he was off."

Her face grew a little red at this, feeling a little insulted at the idea that maybe he was doing it becasue he didn't think it would matter, that she wouldn't know what he was saying.

Both her hands fell onto the G-ball, fingers pressing into its smooth surface as she watched the readings with growing dread on her features as the simulator indicated another burn out.
"Can we view a lay out of those readings with the others we've gathered so far?"

"One sec." The blond's fingers flew across the keyboard while menus spawned like mushrooms on the monitors. It would take a few minutes for all the data to be retrieved and displayed. There was a lot.

Hayes turned his back to the console to watch Faleen. Behind him the screens flickered and traced tables and images. "That's.. huh." The word he was looking for was probably 'odd.' Deimos had seemed quite eccentric when the agent had encountered him face to face, but to give up sensitive information so easily was pushing it. "Did you think he-"

Beep! It was ready.

She finished the question for Hayes "Lying, I think he's lying," She had been staring at the monitor intently for most of the time the information as being pulled up. The other time she was taking a closer look at the charging port.

"I have every intention to believe he's lying... but there was just... There isn't something right about him, I just need to make sure."

Her head snapped up when the readings were laid out on the screen.
Faleen fell very quiet, as her eyes scanned over the number, flicking back and forth for reference.

The longer she stood there, the paler she seemed to get, and the more her shoulder's drooped.

Hayes was frowning slightly - that is to say, he wasn't smiling, and his hazel eyes were serious. he leaned back on his hands, but he was starting to get the feeling he might as well have not been there; Faleen was fixated on the monitors as if they were slowly scrolling out the secrets of the universe. They might be - a small part of it, at least.

In the deathly quiet that followed the beep, the blonde inclined his head slightly and waited for her.

"Fal?" he asked at last.

Speaking her name seemed to Jar out our of whatever thoughts were buzzing in her head, she straightened up, and looked over at Hayes, for a second almost surprised, before she stills her expression, The hand she remained on the G-ball curled into a first.

"He's using Zero-Point Energy." She said finally,
she didn't want to say it, and by the tone in her voice, it was clear.
She looked away after she said it. "He powers this things with Zero-point energy,"

A gloved hand lifted to rub at her face. She wanted him to be lying... at least that why they would have been able to do something about it. All this work was for nothing.

Hayes blinked. His brows drew together. He blinked again. Parted his lips to say something, and closed them again. Faleen might as well have said Deimos was using dark matter or unicorns for all the sense she made, except that she was serious. Moreso than he'd seen her, ever.

"That's.. theoretical," he replied, and pushed himself upright to take a step toward her. His movements were careful and slow, as if he were edging out over some vast chasm.

"I know" She said "I know it is. It shouldn't be possible at the very least not at our current level of science achievements"
Faleen lowered her hand, looking over at Hayes, unable to fix her expression that looked a mixture of utter humiliation and devastation.
"He sat there, and told me why it worked best, he told he how he simply needed to finish the unfinished theory, like it was just a mild inconvenience! the whole time he's doing the fastest rewiring on our Dex than I have EVER seen! And I specialize in micro work Hayes!"

She was starting to ramble, looking past the other agent to point to the monitor "The moment I came back I did as many simulations as I could think of, trying to find something that would work, its all to much, its all insouciant. I tried to prove him wrong, and I couldn't. Deimos isn't lying, he's using Zero-Point Energy!"

How could they compete with something like that!? how could they even come close to being able to out do him in anything they build?
She took a step to the side, feeling around for a chair that she just sat down on.

"Hey. Hey. I believe you." Hayes splayed his fingers toward Faleen in a quelling gesture, voice measured and non-threatening. "It's crazy, but if that's what you say it is then.. huh." A thought struck him, knocking his gaze over to the G-Ball. "That stasis loop makes a lot more sense," he muttered and adjusted his glasses.

When the second of distraction had passed, Faleen was wobbling. The blond raised his brows. "Whoa, hey." Not good. Hayes closed the gap in a few strides and pulled a chair from a workstation into her reach. A steadying hand was laid on her shoulder in case she missed.

She didn't even want to believe it, She wanted to just confirm that the guy was an idiot. and he was! but he was somehow... a genius, just like everyone was saying.

The tips of her fingers had been blindly trying to grab hold of the arm of the chair a couple of times, before the seat was pushed closer to her, bumping into her palm, She gripped it tightly, guiding her way in to he seat, while the other stayed curled against the top of the G-ball.

A first hand on her shoulder on her way down, this alone drew her blank stare from the floor and up to the Agent that was now standing right next to her.
touching her shoulder.

"How are we going to compete with something like this? I don't get it, he's the most incompetent human being I've ever seen, why...."

She still looked very pale, She was starting to regret having any of those snacks back at the Rec-room.

Hayes was looking down at her with an expression that could be described as mildly concerned. "I don't know," he answered honestly. The full implications of an opponent who was able to complete major theories and put them into practice were daunting.. and something he'd think about later.

"You're looking pretty shaky, though.. you want to get out of here? Maybe get outside, go for a walk?" Get you away from those monitors? She'd probably stare at them all night.
PostPosted: Mon May 02, 2011 10:28 pm

He didn't know either, and she knew that none of them would. This was humiliating to her, what good would she be for Team Rocket if they were always out classed tech wise by Galactic.

She didn't say anything for a while.
After a short time, Hayes spoke again, after a couple of words she payed attention to what he was saying to her.

She did think that maybe she should get some air, after being stuck in a cave all day, and then going straight to the lower levers of the labs, she could use some desert night.
Faleen pushed herself to her feet. "I think... That might be a good idea right now."

Hayes' hand had lingered, a light presence as the other agent sat. He pulled it away as Faleen stood, giving it a brief glance as if only just remembering it had been there. "Okay."

The tech took a moment to save the new readings and get the lights, glancing over his shoulder as he locked down the workstation. Then he followed, not quite matching her stride but lingering a foot or two behind her, watching her with a quiet expression as they passed beneath the fluorescent hall lights to the elevator.
