Riley hadn't been in her room the night before, when Malodore had fled the demon dorms after concluding the experiment... and that had been worrying, at least until it got back to its own dormitory. After wringing itself out (bandages got soggy very easily, especially in such terrible weather) the plague doctor had determined that Riley had come up to its room for a little time with Luce.
All well and good, it supposed, though it wished she'd stayed. Given that she hadn't, though, Malodore decided to allow her the alone-time she evidently needed, and had gone to bed itself... until their customary running time, when the mindflayer did not appear.
Concerned, Malodore set across campus in search of its... ghoulfriend was such an inadequate term. Partner, perhaps. Yes. That would do. It spent a moment surveying the roof of the demon dormitory for lightning damage; seeing nothing (at least from the ground), it hurried into the dorms.
Riley? Se sei a casa, mia cara? it offered, tentatively, hoping she was there to detect its thoughts. It was early, and given the disturbance it had already caused the night before, the plague doctor was loathe to knock on the door and risk waking up other, theoretically highly cranky, demons.

Riley's sleeping subconscious heard the call that reached out for her, but she was deeply asleep. It managed to begin the process of bringing her back up the layers of conscious, however, and she turned in the bed, struggling to wake up just enough to be able to respond. It took a minute, but finally something of an answer reached out to Malodore.
...cream filling.
... it didn't make any sense, but it was a response!

Malodore blinked. Cream filling? What on earth was that supposed to mean? Was she hungry, perhaps? But why would she be hungry for cream filling? Did mindflayers get strange cravings? Did she want brains with cream filling? And, if so, where could it get some?
...
Right. Malodore knocked on the door instead, as quietly as it could manage. "Riley? Let me in? I'll see if I can find some cream..."

On the couch in the dark living room, Jericho was just relaxing while Riley slept. Though she came to now and then, she had spent a good portion of the day resting. As a note to himself, he probably should have gone to grab his DS to help pass the time while she was out, but relaxing was fine as well.
For the time being, he was unaware that Malodore was waiting outside. That is, until he heard a knock and the doctor's voice outside.
Sitting up quickly, he made his way to the door. He paused there, remembering what the mindflayer had told him about what it had said. The dragon wasn't very happy about that, but he couldn't really lock it out either.
"She's asleep right now," Jericho said as he opened the door to let it in.

Malodore sighed with relief as the door opened - then, just as quickly, looked startled as someone it didn't expect turned out to be on the other side. "Ah, Jericho - I'm sorry for bothering you," it said, quietly. "If she's asleep, that would explain... hm."
It hesitated in the doorway, feeling a bit awkward. Like it was intruding on something. "Ah... is she doing all right?"

"..For the most part," he started, "We got in a bit of a scuffle, but she should be fine. Come on in. She'll probably wake up soon."
Jericho didn't seem too happy, but he wasn't letting on much. The dragon still had his promise to keep so he didn't plan on giving much more of an explanation of the previous day's events.

Who the hell can sleep with the two of you yelling out there like that? A hazy thought filtered over from her bedroom, though she hadn't moved an inch. Of course, they weren't yelling, but everything sounded loud and painful at the moment.
I'm awake.

Malodore nodded, then stepped inside at last - only to look sharply at the door to Riley's bedroom as the thought trickled through its mind. "Yelling...?" If she was over-sensitive to thought stimuli...
Something had happened.
The plague doctor lunged for the door, smacking it with one palm and shoving it open. One look at the mindflayer in the bed was enough to blast its vague anxieties into a fully-grown freakout. "Riley! Mia cara, what happened-" It practically slid to its knees next to the bed, jostling it a little.

Jericho furrowed his brow as he heard Riley told them to stop yelling. And before he knew it, the Plague doctor had gone and rushed off to the bedroom.
"Wai-" Ah nevermind, Malodore had already gone on in. Shaking his head, he closed the door and stepped on into the bedroom to check on the Mindflayer as well. He didn't answer Mal's question, letting her answer it however she pleased.
"Hungry at all, Riley?"

Riley's arms waved in the air as Malodore came closer, and it's voice really did start to sound like yelling. She sat up slowly, her eyes slit thin from the headache that was pounding away. The back of her head was swollen from the repeated blows, but most of her leg injuries were covered by the sheet.
Ahhhh. Shhhh. She whispered. Headache. She rubbed her temples delicately with her fingertips. Slightly hedging around answering Malodore, she looked up at Jericho and nodded. Starved, but if I eat something right now it's just coming back up. Give me a minute.
Finally, she turned her eyes hesitantly to Malodore. I lost a spar. Don't tell anyone. I'll never live it down. I'm all right, though. Just this headache..

-oh, the millions of questions Malodore had... but it clamped down on them, and tried not to broadcast any of its thoughts in her direction. Which probably didn't work, not entirely, given that its knowledge and control of such things was limited. But it tried, and hovered nervously.
... It had, possibly, never felt so awkward in its entire time at Amityville.

Standing a little further back than Malodore, Jericho simply nodded quietly to Riley as he waited for her to get her bearings. During the silence, he glanced back and forth between the other two and he could already feel the awkward tension building up in here. No doubt the Doctor wanted to get more answers aside from her having lost a spar (which he supposed was a good way to put it...)
In the meantime, he just waited for Riley to give the ok so he could fetch her something to eat.

The tension was thick in the air, and if her headache wasn't throbbing hard enough to keep her attention on it, she would have noticed. As it was, she could sense Malodore's stress, and opened one eye wider to look at it. She reached one hand out and pressed the back of her fingers against it's beak.
You know, back home, I used to spar with others almost every day. It kept us strong, and quick. Maybe that's why I lost, I haven't done it in so long. Next time you and me can fight, mm? She teased. Her eyes flickered up to Jericho, touched with amusement. It's better when you spar with people who care about you, because at least they try not to hurt you. Except for that last drop, Jericho. I was already out by then, you idiot.
Offering the tidbit of information Malodore so desperately wanted while joking about it seemed a gentle way to explain the situation.

Malodore... just stared. It glanced from Riley to Jericho, and back again... and then, ever so slightly, relaxed. Just a tiny, tiny bit. "Ah. I see." It supposed that was a good way to work out frustration? "Can, I, ah... are there any injuries that... need tending?"

Obviously in a better mood, Riley patted Malodore's shoulder softly before turning her head. The swelling was terrible - and covering a large section, unlike when the gnomes had gotten her. So, ah, I may have forgotten to put some ice on this last night. We made sure my legs were covered in ice, but I didn't feel the pain my head was in until now. You know how it is, the day after always hurts more than the day of. Well, perhaps she knew that a little better than it did. Is there anything we can do for it now?
