"s**t this thing is starting to get too brown..." Bul snorted to himself as he examined his 'beloved' snot ball. After thrashing it around his dormroom the other day he found it was beginning to look a lot more like.. perhaps puke if not worse. Going around begging for snot wasn't going to save it the wretched tone not to mention as gross as it was in the first place the boil did appreciate keeping it... lively. With a sour face the half beast knew exactly where he was going to have to venture to in order to fix his snotty hack. "Why don't I keep a surplus of this stuff?" he grumbled to himself looking for some sort of direction to the swamp behind the monster dorms. He knew damn well where it was but water was not his thing... especially not after the unpleasant field trip.

Why was he going to the swamp? Algae. The algae in the water as well as any sort of wet, green, mysterious group acted as a great substitute for his snotty hack when snot was sparce. "Should hit up big green guy sometime..." he muttered, remembering G from his student elections booth. After all, it'd be better than having to wade through the water himself. Bul was deathly afraid of the water but it would take a thousand trips to the jack-damned island to make him admit it- well... maybe less than that. Pouting and grumbling all the while, Bul was given the very "delightful" reminder of the island setting when the humidity and slight mist touched his rough skin. "Fuuuuuuck this..." he snarled but trudged along anyway. Even better, the best clumps of thick algae were not at the water's edge but where any sunlight pecked the water from time to time... which could be anywhere in the wet bog.

Calder enjoyed water. Nothing more delighted him than being submerged. Being born and raised in rivers and swamps, he was more than pleased to see that the school he was sent to also accomidated for the more aquatic creatures. Best of all, the Monster dorms had a massive swamp right behind the building. The murky, dank equivelent of a outdoor swimming pool. While he could do rather well in fast, clear rivers, swamps had the comfort of rotting leaves, heavy sludge above, and fallen logs.

Nestled on the bottom, Calder was resting. With fallen leaves sinking to the bottom, a thick layer of soft decomp rested like an organic cushion and the deep dark wrapped him like a blanket. It was warm and very relaxing. Still, he had homework, and while Barth might have been proud if he napped the day away, it wouldn't fair well with his teachers. There were plenty of books he had to look at, both for class, for friends, and for family.

Bubbles blew out as he huffed and opened his eyes. Pushing up, he started to float to the surface, rising up and bobbing up through the surface. A long vine hanged from his ear, and he reached up to toss it aside with a wet smack.

It was then that he noticed someone just at the water's edge. "Great day for a swim." He said, smiling as he started to move to the shore. "The water's great."

Certain he was alone, Bul had approached the water's edge with exaggerated hesitance. The look on his face could be best described as sickened- even some of his color had flushed. Immediately it returned though when the water horse made its way to the surface and addressed the monster. "Er... yea... sure..." he rolled his eyes in response. Luckily Bul had stilt-like legs but... there was no telling how deep the water really was. All the sun spots were pretty far off and he couldn't tell whether or not the other was walking straight or actually swimming. "Just trying to grab some algae is all I don't exactly have time for a swim today.."

He paused. Good coverup... he thought proudly. No water is great... EVER. "It's a bit er... chilly..." he added while emerging himself to his calves. It was actually kinda warm... still unpleasantly wet.

Dripping wet, the kelpie walked all the way up to the shore though stood just at the edge of the swamp, up to his lower legs in muddy water. "Cold?" He looked about before pulling a leaf from his hair. "...the rotting leaves make it really warm. Maybe you are too close to the edge. It's really warm in the middle especially if you go down to the bottom. I.." He laughed a little. "...almost fell asleep just then because of it." He missed it. It was like having to force yourself from out of some warm blankets.

Seeing as the other boil didn't have time, Calder tried to think of where he found algae. His mother sometimes advised him to put some algae in water to sooth his throat when it was sore. He didn't think this was why the boil was here though, but he DID look a little sick. "Well, seeing as you are in a rush, I think I saw some algae right over there. I can show you. Just a short paddle right over. Uhhh.... where was it again. OH! Over here." He reached over, palms wet, and took the boil's hand.

If it were any other time or place Bul would be a little confused as to what he was interacting with. Naturally he assumed the other boil to be well... a girl until his voice and approach proved otherwise. Bul was a bit... confident with identification, though the siren he had been around on the island before they were rescued proved a mystery still. "Wait, what?" Darting his eyes from the drenched monster to the water Bul actually stepped back. "Hey HEY!" he snapped as soon as his hand was grasped and ripped it away, but not without an attempted shove to the other with the free arm.

"What do you think you're doing?" he growled. Should he have let the kelpie guide him though he may have been comfortable getting it from the deeper part of the lake.

He had no idea why the other boil was being so worked up. Stumbling back from the shove, he tripped on a stick wedged in the thick and fell back, falling back into the water. Luckily he landed on his rear and on the soft dirt that made the swamp bottom. Frowning, he rubbed his chest a moment before looking up at the other boil. "What was that for?" He pressed his hands forward, using his own system for getting up. Hands flat on the ground, then butt up, and then rise.

Fixing his tangled tail, he pouted at the boil. "I was just going to show you where it is. I'm not good with directions." He stepped over, slowly, as if awaiting another attack. Then, he held out his hand. "Kay? It really is a short splash over there." He pointed to the right of the swamp.

Bul couldn't help but stifle a laugh as the kelpie fell back into the water. It wasn't enough to smooth the boil over but he did feel like there was equal payment for trying to drag him into the water. "Bro, you don't drag someone into a swamp," he said, rolling his head some and popping his neck. His tail lifted behind him as he stepped a little closer in the water but wasn't about to strike again. "Can't you like.. just... er... " Bul paused and actually took a deep breath keeping the tip of his tail out of the water for security reasons. "...I might kick it all up if I walk around it you think you could grab me some?" he asked. His lazy request was followed with half crossed arms.

Leaning forwards some, Bul now rested his hands on his knees some and looked at the surface of the water that was in constant motion from the two of them. "Yeah man see I can't even see through the water anyway.."

While Calder was against being a worker for someone else, being asked was another thing. Wondering why anyone would not want to take such a nice swim in the swamp was beyond him, but it really wasn't any trouble for Calder to swim out, grab some algae, and return. In fact, it was something he could easy do and considering he never met this boil, made him think this was a very nice thing to do.

"I don't see why going in the swamp is bad, but I can get it for you if you want. Missing out though. The water is really nice today." Then again, if the other boil was not able to see in murky water, Calder shouldn't poke at it. It made the kelpie puff with pride that he could see through the water easily. Poor water-no-seeing boil.

Moving up, he checked the boil for any belongings. "What are you keeping the algae in?" He didn't see a jar at all.

With a hidden sigh of relief Bul reached into his jacket pocket (having bringing a coat to the swamp of all the weirdest things) and pulled out a very pitiful looking mass of... gunk. "My snot ball," he began. "As you can tell its pretty lifeless so it needs some more green gunk. Algae's my best bet." Bul was a little reluctant to hand it to the other but worth the avoidance of deeper water. "Just make sure you don't lose it or anything.." he snorted, "Or I'll be ********' pissed..." he narrowed his eyes some before giving it up.

"Who are you anyway, milkyhair?" he asked. "Can't say I've seen you around any.." he huffed, of course having met the kelpie in perhaps the worst of places.

It was rather surprising to see something that big made out of snot. He really thought that it was both impressive the other boil could produce so much, but then again, wondered if it was all his. The idea of carrying about a snot ball was....interesting to say the least.

Regarding the thing, he opened his hands to receive it, having no idea that a snot ball was supposed to be more alive in the first place. Once in his hands, he looked at it as if he wasn't sure what to do with it, but guessed that if he was going after algae, he was just going to slather the green plantlife on it. That didn't sound too fun, but he did agree to it in the end.

Looking up a moment, he slowly repeated the boil's words. "Milky....hair?" He never liked anyone mentioning his hair, and felt uncomfortable when it was pointed out. At least it was the color this time, which he had no problem with other than it being a sign that he was young. It had yet to go black. What he did wonder was if the boil though it was too....pretty.

"Uh...my name is Calder. I'm usually around the monster dorms, but I usually here or there. I haven't see you around either. I don't think you're in any of my classes." He'd remember a boil with a snot ball. Turning towards the swamp, he looked at the ball. "Um...I'll just.....get you that algae." He started walking straight back into the swamp.

Bul had no real backing for calling him milky hair although frayed with the water surface it did look like a swirly cream. It was too bad the kelpie wasn't a ghoul it'd probably serve him better in the half beast's case. "Yeah I don't think we do I only have one class right now anyways." Watching him return, Bul felt it safe enough to step back and remove himself more from the body of water. "Heh thanks," he mumbled.

Looking under his nails the boil wondered if there was anything else he could exploit of this kelpie while he was here for the sake of not having to get wet. Perhaps there was some slimy, tasty frog critters around the swamp. The last time he munched on them was at G's booth and they were actually really delicious.

"So wait, lemme get this straight you just kinda chill here? Don't you like, I dunno get cold and s**t?
PostPosted: Fri Apr 29, 2011 7:32 pm

Taking the snot ball, he tucked it under his arm and then headed back into the water. Just walked straight in. It was the fact the pushing boy was talking that he stopped just when the water rose to his neck to look back. "Well....yeah. I love it here. Here or the rivers. I'm miserable without a good swim." This boil didn't seem as if he ever swam here or he would know that it was actually rather warm here. "It's warm here. You just need to get used to the water. The leaves give off heat as they rot. Not that I mind cold water. Some rather brisk rivers around here are good. Sort of used to it. Just wait to get used to it and you don't notice." He continued to move and then started to swim, one hand out, the other holding the ball under his arm, and his feet kicking. He would just walk under water, but he had to see where the algae on the surface.

"Why don't you swim and see?" He asked, looking back. "First time near a swamp? No reason to get all worried about getting cold." He smiled a bit. Or maybe I can keep you warm.

((*w*))

"I'm afraid I... can't get too wet or I'll break out.." Lie. Well not necessarily, if Bul freaked out enough he could trigger one but the water had zero immediate effect. The only time he would ever "submerge" himself was in a steaming hot shower and those were generally quick. Perhaps if it were Mei, Bul could feel just an inch closer to telling the truth about his inability to swim. "Maybe... just... up to my waist maybe," he said giving the other a stern look. "You got that algae yet?" he asked impatiently before wading into the water once more and biting his lip.

"F.. ******** ******** ******** ********.." he whispered to himself and couldn't control his tail behind him as it splashed and tossed about in the water momentarily. He was able to calm it down but stood straight like a pencil where he was, arms hugging himself. "I uh... thanks... for uh.. getting that for me.." he said with very little passion. Poor boil was in a situation where he had to be as ballsy as he could.

Chin above the water, Calder showed no hint of panicking as he moved closer to a green pile of sludge floating and even bubbling a bit on the top of the swamp. Living, green gook was easy to find here, but if you wanted something to stick, you needed the thick stuff. It actually was rather good if you took a good amount and mixed in some fruit to make a nice spread on toast.

Moving over, he raised the snot ball and then paused, examining it. Hmm. It looked a little smaller. Did it...melt a little?

Shrugging, he reached over and started to pile on the algae to it's new home. The thick gloop latched on, curious to it's new location. Calder continued to layer it over and over again, but now that it was on, he hoped it wouldn't come off.

Looking over, he smiled at the boil who was a ways off. "Oh, hey. Catch!" He called out and tossed him the ball. Too bad Calder's aim was really off.

Bul couldn't see from where he was the shrinking of his snot ball but would've let out a bit of rage if he had. Not that it would have been too hard to build back up again, the concept of this fellow even letting one drop of it disintegrate would irritate the half beast. He could however, see the algae now being packed on top and couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief.

Thank Jack now I can get the hell out of here... he thought to himself. Calder was right though, the water was warm and the atmosphere was just as comfortable... maybe Bul wouldn't be too turned off by a nap- on the ground of course.

"s**t!" snapping out of his train of thought Bul had to dive for his snot ball and ended up creating a rather large splash from his body getting dunked in the water. Although he had his arm and snot ball safely out of the water he experienced a flashback of Icky being knocked off the boat on the way to the island.

Standing erect the half beast let out a terrible groan of annoyance. His little tendrils quivered on end and he felt his tail flick around. Bul didn't say anything else to the kelpie but scowled as the water dripped down his face. So much for staying any bit dry!
