In my college art class we work a lot with nude models; so no, I do not think that nude art is necessarily inappropriate for a christian. The human body is after all God's creation. But that's with drawing. Photography is more of a gray area, though, because of the close correlation to pornography. Of coarse, a nude drawing can function as pornography, but, it is not the usual method. I would say that it is possible to have nude photos that are art and not porn, but I think it would take an artist that is cautious and wise, and has a clear idea of what the difference between the two is.

I do agree with her that it is a gray section so my advise is to be very causious... because it could really easily become porn...

I think that, due to the nature of the topic, it really is more of a judgement call that you have to find for yourself. Art is oftentimes everything that science isn't. Science prefers black and white, clear cut definitions of what this or that is/isn't; art on the other hand leaves everything up to the artist and the part of themselves they are expressing through their works. So, my advice would be to pray long and hard about it, and if you are convicted about something, don't do it. The difference, to me, between porn and nude art is that porn has and is glorifying the sexual intercourse between two people, usually with very graphic/shocking media. Nude art on the other hand(at least in my eyes) doesn't. Again, all I can say is to pray about it. I'm not an artist. My calling lies elsewhere. But if God wouldn't want you to do something, chances are He's going to let you know about it loud and clear.

Nude photography isn't necessarily porn, it can be very tasteful and I don't think there's anything wrong with nude portraits provided the models are comfortable with them. The line to me is very clear. If you're taking photos of someone posing in a deliberately erotic manner and your intent is that you/other people are going to get off on the material, then that is obviously porn. If however, your n***s are simply studies of character and/or form and aren't gratuitous, and no one is exploited or made to do anything they don't want to then I don't see that there's anything wrong with it. Yes, some people will become sexually excited by nude portraits but only in the same way some people are sexually excited by nurse's uniforms, or leather jackets. It all depends on the photographer's intent.
