I was looking around Wikipedia for information on Samurai for a school report, and I found some very interesting information on Traditional Male/Male Relationships. Could this have been where Shonen-Ai and Yaoi got it's start? Kinda makes you wonder, doesnt it?

Check it out and decide for yourself:

EDIT: Link removed for the purposes of not getting me in trouble (don't ask). If you wanna find it, go to Wikipedia and search for "Shudo"

x_x 6 Hours and not a single comment? Wow, I feel a little unloved. I figured that at least this place would be semi interested in the topic... guess no one here likes history, even if it might have something to do with Yaoi.

Or perhaps I didn't state myself clearly - please, feel free to discuss this, I'm interested in your guys thoughts on this.

Honestly, I don't really know anything about yaoi. redface But I have heard about shudo before. I think it's fascinating that homosexuality was accepted and even (*gasp*) normal in many societies: Greek and Roman, Indian, and Native American, to name a few.

If you think that's interesting, look up Plato's The Republic and go to the section where he starts talking about the army. He goes into some detail about the "apprentices" of the soldier and what their duties were. ^^

Christians had to ruin the whole thing cry I knew that monks did have relationships with the acolytes, but that was so interesting! Thank you for sharing this enlightening tidbit with us! 3nodding

Yeah, I think that's pretty much what happened to Rome, Greece, India, and North America, too. The Abrahamic religions suppressed it.

Lots of interesting historical info here:

Y'know, that does bring up an interesting question... If it was okay way back then, why does everybody have a problem with it now?

But its not totally them. I mean, take the Muslims for example - in some Islamic Countries, Homosexuality is considered a CAPITAL crime! I dont know about you, but from the sound of that, I don't think it's 100% the Christian's fault. Besides, there are sects of Christianity that accept Homosexuality.

So I guess the question is, other than Religious reasons, why is it considered so wrong throughout the world? I mean, Religion plays a major part of it, no question about it, but what else could be a part of it?

Id kinda like to make a point of that people aren't accepting to change. Just look at all the things that have taken time for people to overcome: Blacks, Women, people of certain nationalities, I wont even mention things, but I would think that homosexuality would be on the same list as some of the other things that I have listed that have been over come. We will get it eventually wink

EDIT: I hope it didn't sound mean, but right now I cant think of any nicer way to put it. However those people have over come a lot and it wont be long before sexuality is not really an issue like it is today.

Yeah, you're probably right. I just hope it doesnt take some kinda gay holocaust or civil war to get it changed... stare
