All the cool kids what own bunny herla, step right up, 'cause we're here to discuss backstory!

As was revealed in the recent (as of writing) Easter event, these funky-lookin' herla, known as the Red Palm Herd, are newcomers to the Hartlands, hailing from the edge of the desert after being displaced by a devastating rock slide! Oh no!

You may read up on the Red Palm Herd here, and their companions, the chibins, here--at least, when these sections are finished.

Now, reason for this topic! I'd like discuss our shiny new bunny herla and how they might have known each other at their old home. Please give a name, general personality, and any ideas you may have for your herla's past, how they knew these other bunnies, etc. Red Palm represent!

Heck yes! -purrrs- Oh yeah, bunny herla. -cough- BACKSTORY TIEM!

Red Palm..I sense..Indianishness coming our way? I love it. Love that it'll have a desert aspect to it. -fav place in all of herla lands is always gonna be them frozen mountains and the Desert!-

Mars is Lorlila Marce's Nickname btw. But I will always refer to her as Mars. I wanted her to have something of a, very proper name, more humanish then maybe the harts n hinds of the rest of the world have. A first n last. But I also wanted her to have something short n personal that represented her, maybe the desert scene, well. Mars. YEY!

Anyhow. Backstory time. I'm working on Mars right now. I do not have a 'coherent' personality for her. As with her I'm definitely going to need to show a 'Before the accident' and the 'After' sides to her. Because whoever she was, would have obviously been changed by that. At least somewhat. -journal- I'd like to stick to it that she had a Mate-to-be,Bonded-to,was Bound-to-marry, this Rabbit stag Orion. Who is now dead etc. But was alive at least a quarter or half of the way through their journey (Probably less then more), before succumbing to his injury's, etc etc.

Still workin on that..
I would love for Mars to know your boy Soldier. Maybe not as a friend, as much as competition? An annoyance? Tolerable. Maybe the other 'man' who was hittin on her even. If he rolls that way, certainly competition for Orion because, rowr, he's got that look on him, lols! Something like that, because I loveeee a bit of tension! And Tension in the midst of tragedy. Purrr!

I want to be able to connect my darling girl to all of them in..some aspect or another. Rockwolf's boyo. He looks young, I'd like mars to know him. Maybe, in a way a sister knows a little brother. Or as friends with a bit of age between them. I plan on making Mars, sweet, experienced in the ways of the desert, but not experienced in..say..relationships. Feminine, hard working, a bit lost. She's definitely going to be a bit more vulnerable and protective now. Hard, a touch nervous or paranoid. Where as she would have been very carefree before the accident, maybe a bit naive, very much 'in love' and a romantic at heart. Now she'll be..more wary I suppose, she'll have made walls in certain places of her soul to keep herself safe, but will still be open in other aspects as she' want's very badly to survive in this new place.
Just as badly as she wants to be 'lonely', and oh yeah she does! Funnnnn!

Of course she doesn't really want to be alone, but she's going to absolutely convince herself that she does want to be forever alone. Because she does miss Orion and it hurts, and she doubt's any foreigner could replace him, ever. That any -anything, could ever replace what they had. -is already makin plots lols I'm terrrribleeee-

Congrats on winning the RP contest, by the way. You really did a great job. <3

Ahaha, that plot is pretty much perfect for Wendel. I'm still hammering his personality out too, but I came up with this:

I imagine Wendel is a bit of a shrewd customer, suspicious at first, and seemingly cynical. But he's actually more apathetic, in that nothing really fazes him for long. Around pretty herla that catch his eye, Wendel would get all flirty and chauvinistic. So he would certainly hit on Mars.

I imagine Wendel is immediately turned down by his targets for being so overbearing, but again, with the whole apathy thing, he just moves on 'cause he figures there will always be more tail to chase. He sorts of drifts from opportunity to opportunity, though he seems impatient and careless with how quickly he may drop things...

But with Mars, he wouldn't give up so easily, for once. 'Cause maybe he becomes actually concerned for her, seeing how torn up she gets over Orion's death, so he wants to help. Only he has difficulty being serious, so he just does turn out to be annoying/a rival, haha.

To others, Wendel may seem like the deadbeat older brother who is too blunt and gives bad advice. And when you come back to him saying his advice screwed you over? "*shrug* Oh well." But of course, I'm open to other ideas. Wendel doesn't really have a complex backstory or anything.

Haha Wendel sounds like such a jerk.

Thank you so much! I didn't think It was that good actually, lols not at first. Just kinda went with what I felt..and then I realized Ho-fluff thats frking short!! I'm so glad others liked it!

I do absolutely love that! And of course Mars wouldn't actually trust, let alone strongly believe that he would be 'concerned' for her. Not for other then said selfish 'tail chasing' reasons. His wanting to help and not being able to be serious, will create such conflicting thoughts for her. Me like.

I do absolutely love it! -nods- Shini doth approve! -pets the sexy Wendel llama- I fft, syrs need to get Mars personality put up, at least in her journal. -beats her muse into submission-

Now also, about where they came from? Is Kaiven coming up with that, or do we get to have our hand in say..the description of their homestyle? Maybe not of the land..But..what the rock slide destroyed..and how close were they to talon territory?

Do we get to decide how..social they were? Do they have social classes? Jobs? What is with the big BOWS! Is it like a mark of something, or purely decoration?

How did they survive and what did they survive on..If they were anywhere in the desert..even caught between talon and Queen Maya's lands. There had to be some source of, water, food, oasis, etc. I'm of a mind that they also ate insects. Certainly ate Chibin eggs (Or maybe they find the chibin's special, sacred?) and definitely any tiny reptiles. Num!

Haha, awesome. So we have their relationship plotted out! Not quite on friendly terms, these two, try as Wendel might... Poor Mars.

I believe Kaiven was going to mostly write up all about the Red Palm Herd, but I will definitely ask if we could come up with our own stuff and get it officially approved. In the meantime... Couldn't hurt to speculate!

Alright, let's see. I imagine they lived in an oasis in the desert, hence the name of the herd. Palms always remind me of oases, anyway. XD My immediate thought was these herla would be herbivorous, but then again, not like there is a lot of plant matter in the desert, so I could definitely see these bunny herla being omnivorous.

I don't know about eating Chibin eggs. I just figured the Chibins were pets/helpers, but then again, people keep chickens as pets and also eat the eggs... So I dunno! Guess we'll have to see what Kai writes on that.

Social aspects of the herd, now that is something I am most interested in! Just a few ideas I randomly came up with, but I imagine the Red Palm Herd would be more tight-knit than the herla of the Hartlands. Perhaps they are more social, sticking close together, everybody knowing everybody.

This serves as protection, seeing as they live in a pretty precarious spot and all, so the herd would immediately know when something was up if a herla wasn't seen around for a while or something. Also, deserts apparently get freezing cold at night and I find the image of the herd huddling together for warmth adorable.

Haha, the bows! That is a good question. I honestly don't know what the bows may signify, if anything at all. It could be the trademark of the herd, but then, how would so many huge bows be found in a desert? Maybe they are rare, therefore given to only a select few herla, though how they are chosen, I don't know. Social classes and hierarchy of the herd would be a great thing to expand on.

I like to think this bunny herd would have a very different culture from the herla of the hartlands, so this pilgrimage must have been very trying, not to mention the fun of RPing such culture shock! I think it would also be cool to come up with a few words in their "dialect" and perhaps try to figure out how Easter ties into their culture.

All that stuff I just came up with above is completely unofficial, just for fun. I'd still recommend waiting for Kai's writings and approval and all before mentioning this stuff in RP, though I certainly still encourage discussion!

wow guys I just read everything. I have to say the idea, of the bows meaning something, is an interesting one. Maybe pink means the Lady wearing it is special?

Different colors mean different things?

Kinda like the chosen few who get to pick their mates and all the others fight for attention of the one with the pink?

Just an idea.

Also I like the tight knit theory as they are a very small herd and they don't exactly look like they could defend themselves in a fight without really any natural weapons. Safety in numbers and all that.

So they must be very fast.

Do they heal quickly?

Also someone Please draw a pic of them all sleeping together at some point. I can't wait till Kai finishes mine!!!

GUYS

I'm working on plotting the Red Palms lore and the Chibins story...there are a few things that are set in stone, but the rest I'm filling out...you guys should help! We can all write the lore together!

Things that are set in stone:

The Red Palms Herd is a small, close-knit group that hasn't had much exposure to other Herla. The leaders are elders who are kind of stuffy and bossy. Other than that, I'm not sure of how the herd social structure is.

I haven't worked out all of what they eat, but I do know that the main portion of their diet is shared with the Chibins...which leads to the next point.

Chibins used to be very, very common in the area around the oasis where the Red Palms Herd lived. They bred like, well, rabbits and became a horrible menace...eating all of the food so the herd began to starve. The herd tried to think of a way (that I haven't come up with yet) to lessen the numbers of the Chibins, and wound up accidentally just about killing them off entirely. Afterwards they felt guilty, and began to protect and care for the few remaining Chibins...though their numbers never recovered.

The herd lives on the desert side of the Great Ravine (I'm working on a map, I'll hopefully be able to post it soon), and the Chibins originate from inside the Ravine.

The oasis is located near some cliffs, mostly hidden and protected from the nearby Talon camps. When the rockslide happened, a large portion of the herd was killed outright. The remaining herd began to trek to the Glen, traveling up and around the Ravine through dangerous territory, and lost more members. By the time the exhausted, tattered remnants of the herd reached the Glen, tension was high between the older and the younger members of the herd, though they put up a unified front for the Herla in the Glen.

Um, that's what's in my brain so far. Questions? Comments?

Herp Derp..Finally posting > - < Sorry still kinda shy in new thread xp
My boy's name is Mariposa Lily, it's a type of orange desert flower, he goes by Lily though or Mari. His personality still needs immense hammering out but, the vibe I get from him thus far is a more skittish anxious type. He's not a coward per say unless he's utterly alone..then he's going to turn tail and run from anything frightening. If he's with his herd members, his kin Lily will try to act tough and would fight though he has no real skills he would try! (lol)

Though he's a bit fearful Lily is still curious as he isn't that old. Ever child like his curiosity will most likely get him into some funny/ bad situations.
As for what Shini said with her girl, that would totally fit Lily's personality. I can see him trailing after her asking questions or trying to be a strong protector but, ending up hiding behind her for protection should something truly scary appear.

Ribbons..bows etc. Maybe..they get them when they come of age? Or when they prove themselves somehow (just spouting off what popped into my brain lol) Perhaps the chibins have something to do with the crafting of the bows? They look clever and look like they could craft simple things but, again, thats just me X'D

Diet wise I could see them eating the flowers that can and do grow in desert type climates, maybe something like cactus that are less prickly. However if they live in an oasis there should be some plant life..right? o - o Again if they have lived in the area long enough the herd could have learned how to survive on the more hardy plants like cacti etc. Bugs could always be part of their diet, the chibins could help catch them since they look rather nimble/agile.

Definitely agree and thought the close knit herd fit them well. I know Lily wouldn't want to venture far from any of his herd members and, might panic if left to his own devices or if he met a more..mutated herla XDD. Oh the funny roleplays I will have ^ ^ Other than that..yeah..that's it for my long rambling ideas and character ideas/info.
Hopefully it isn't all..too much of a rambling mess sorry if it is D: 3 AM rocks!

I..MOTHER FLUFFIN LUV IT ALLL! -drools and dies-

Omnivorous, definitely, seeing as lols thanks to kai. The chibins nearly drove them into starvation! So I imagine their diets would have to adapt a little bit! -yus for chibin herla CHAOS- Also LULS, oh mai-goodness. That is..I love your set in stone-ness kai. LOVE.

On the Bows - Diferent colors meaning diferent things, I'm for it. Or maybe the Bows also signify adult Herla..or..not simply adult..But mature, Breeding ready members of the clan. Maybe there's even a right of passage one would need to go through to obtain such a bow? I'm with Rock on the chibin's maybe having something to do with the bows. Maybe they used to use the Chibin's pelts for them even? Or like Rock said, the crafting. They do have quick little hands, n thumb type things, and beaks.

As the materials to make them would surely be rare out there..Not unless you wanted to go 'trade' with the talons, which I doubt they did..erm..often. Lols!

Also, yes-yes-n yes! Huddling together for warmth! -purrs- We will absolutely need an img of that sometime. It's tooo adorable, and would fit well I imagine. Along with the safety in numbers, their needing to be tight knit.

Yeah, they don't seem to have any weapons, no antlers or sharp hooves or sharp, anything. Maybe a very peaceful group of herla, who made a very peaceful and sheltered living. I also agree with them needing to be 'fast', and possibly them being faster then most Herla in Queen maya's lands. Because..yeah..how else would they have survived without some edge? Speed could be that. -nods-

I love the tension between older and younger members Kaiven! LOVE IT! Love the putting on a face in the fear, and newness of the -definitely alien- herla they encountered. Gahd..it..OH it makes me think of Elf Quest! -if anyone's ever read it?- But anyways!

I dunno..Maybe after Kai gets everything up and we get the world sorted, we could/shold/Absolutely Rp their journey from the ravine to the new land. And, Have a little something from each rabbit herla's point of view, on how they saw the new 'herla'.

YAY ROCKWOLF! -pounces- I love your name Idea. -nods- And I love Nivers Twisp Sai! LOVE. -glees- I'm glad you'd like to Align Lilly -again beautiful name- and Mars like that. I can see Mars and maybe Wendel being..definitely 'Older' members of the herd. Maybe not completely adverse to change, but Mars will certainly approve more of her own kin then any of these new creatures, new changes.

Also..With soldier on them having a few words from their own Dialect.

We should make a list, absolutely, as there's no way they'd know how to.mmn to describe the new herla. Maybe they have diferent names for their males and females? Instead of hart n hind, or Doe n Buck. Lols..though Ironically, male and female rabbits are called Does n Bucks. OR also Jacks n Jills. I like the word Stag myself. -shrugs-

Also..Easter, yus. It's gotta be a big part of their culture. Maybe something to do with the Chibins even?
Maybe Easter for them was not such a..ah..Happy-go-lucky time in the past. Like..and this is just in my own head.
I can see Easter as having been a time of great hunting and extermination of the chibins, hunting their eggs, those kind of games, fun etc!

And now it is..A celebration of the Chibins? A celebration of life and other sorts of things? Where the egg collecting is no longer violent and erm more productive? Maybe they even spend Easter building nests for the Chibins. Doing fun things like that!
