Aliqua was bored! Bored bored bored! Her brothers weren't any fun today so what's a little foal to do? She got another one of her 'bright' ideas to randomly go wandering off and make friends with someone more fun. Someone outside the family. That meant breaking a rule her daddy had taught her. Don't talk to strangers. How do you go about making friends if you didn't talk to strangers first? Strangers become friends once you get to know them. Then their not strangers anymore! Everyone must break that rule sometime. Why was it even a rule?

The filly was chasing all sorts of sounds around the forest. A few of the critters she ran into so far had either fled from her sudden appearance or flew away. Was this hide and seek? She didn't like being 'it!' Pouting while standing on top of a stump she thought about what to do. Where would other Soqulli go? She licked her dry lips and it just came to her. Everyone gets thirsty, right?! She ran over to small stream cutting through the forest. Okay, right, so all she had to do was wait.

She looked left.

.... Nothing.

Turned to look right.

.... Nope.

Now what? Oh, right! Maybe they were all just shy. They'd see her pelt for sure out in the open like this and they'd be too shy to come play. Maybe if she surprised them they'd laugh and then they could become friends? Giggling at her own cleverness she hid in a bush.

Now all she had to do was wait. Hehe!

Silently, Buskhin walked through the empty forest. She had left her sister behind and the past few days she had spent alone. She would return to her sister soon enough, but she wanted to make sure that the demon was quiet by the time she did. Though the "demon" inside her was nothing but a product of her own subconscious, Bushkin did not see it that way. She saw herself as a mare possessed by something that could cause her to do great evil.

She always hoped that she wouldn't but she always failed.

There were sounds coming from the forest ahead of her and Bushkin paused. She usually wasn't one for company when she was in these moods. Talking did nothing to help and sometimes would only make things worse. Her path was going to take her past the other soquili, or creature, but she didn't want to risk becoming lost in the forest to avoid them. Taking a breath, Bushkin walked forward and hoped that whoever it was wouldn't talk to her.

So quiet she had to strain her ears foreward to make sure she hadn't been hearing things. She peeked through the leaves. OH COOL golden hooves! Like her back hooves, no, better! They glowed. Strange how they barely made a sound...? She watched as they walked right past, just to make sure she didn't run away. Why were adults like that? They didn't run, they didn't play. They keep asking you to be quiet. Was that a game too? She decided to try it! She slipped out of the bushes as silently as she could could and whispered one word.

"Boo."

That would scare her more than a yell. She'd see Aliqua, she'd laugh at my little self trying to scare her. Maybe they could be friends. She studied the Soquilli closer now that she was out of the bushes. Her eager smile slipped into a slightly concerned frown at the sight of the matching eyes. Glowing... was she a ghost? It was kinda... creepy. She hadn't heard much when she walked, had she? Maybe she WAS a ghost! Hairs on the back of the neck feeling. Errr, ghost Soquilli could be good too, right?

Right?!

...Besides she'd come here to make friends! And she was determined to do it! She just hadn't expected a ghost... daddy had told her stories about spirits once.

The filly did surprise Bushkin but she didn't react in a large way. Her ears flattened back and she stomped a hoof sharply into the ground. She glared with her glowing eyes at the filly. She didn't have much patience for foals even on a good day. She didn't like how capricious and energetic they were. They made her uneasy and she almost could feel their restlessness passing into her.

"You," she hissed quietly at the interloper. "Don't do that." She stomped her hoof again and a clump of leaves and dirt flew up with it. "Don't. Do. That." She wished she had taken another route now. Getting lost would have been less aggravating. Getting lost wouldn't have put her in danger of waking her demon.

Fully expecting coos and laughter or in this case haunting laughter she was quite surprised by this reaction. She flinched at the stomping and even more with the scary glare. Well, Aliqua sure heard her feet now! She ducked her head to show obediance to the command. Like a parent she figured it best to listen to spirits when they tell you something.

She still whispered. "...Sorry." She meant it too. Memo to self: Don't scare ghosts. Makes them grumpy. It was their job.

Wait a minute.

Her mouth always moved before her brain could catch up and she couldn't help but whine just a little. She forgot all about the silent game and went back to her normal tone of voice. "But I thought ghosts scare people all the time! That's not fair! Can't we scare back?" She pouted and stomped her hoof too, mimicking Bashkin.

She remembered herself and tried to think on her feet. She was here to make a friend, not argue. "Um, I meant no harm. My name's Aliqua and I thought your hooves were pretty. Did I do the scare all wrong? You probably know more about scaring than me, huh? Can you teach me? Do ghosts scare people on purpose or by accident? Are you a ghost? If not where can I get glowing eyes?" She knew she was babbling, it was nervousness. She still really wanted to be friends though! A ghost for a friend would be so neat!

Bushkin shut her eyes while the filly babbled her last few sentences. Patience. Where was she supposed to find patience? When she opened her eyes again she was no better than she had started. She was still irritated and the irritating filly was still there. She wondered if she broke and run away entirely if the annoying little creature would follow her. Probably.

"Ghost?" she hissed in her whispering voice. "I'm not a ghost and know nothing of them. If you're chasing fairytales, look for them somewhere else." She glared at the filly and hoped that she would take the hint and leave. The filly wouldn't dare disrespect an adult and disregard their wishes... would she?

Oh, she dared. "My mama said spirits are real, and ghosts are spirits so they are NOT fairytales!" Mother was always right! The filly looked up at the grouchy adult. If she wasn't a ghost then maybe her scary glowing eyes were things she was born with. Like her brothers had wings while she did not. "My mistake then, but... Didn't you ever believe in fairytales? Magic? Ghosts, demons, and scary things? Their real, you know." If adults didn't believe why did they tell the stories to their foals as if they were real? Unicorns are supposed to be magic, granted she'd never tried to use her horn before...

Maybe she could try now? Prove magic was real? She didn't know how. Maybe if she wished really hard? She'd have to go ask her papa. He would know. Papa knew everything too, just like Mama. The creepy feeling increased until the air was thick with tension. She looked up startled at the change in atmosphere. Was this mare getting angrier? With her eyes glowing it was sometimes a little hard to tell which emotion this Soquilli was feeling. She wasn't so sure she wanted to be friends anymore. To be honest this adult kind of scared her. Had she pushed it too far?

((Note! Bushkin's "demon" isn't real, she just thinks it is!))

Bushkin's ears flattened back and they stayed there. If this filly knew the truth about her then she would go running for cover. Yes, some ghosts and monsters were real. Bushkin knew because she had one living inside herself, her demon. She could feel the demon clawing inside her, longing to be free. The filly was so small. If the demon took over and controlled her then she might very well kill her.

"If you really thought I was a ghost you should have run away," she hissed. "Ghosts and spirits are not to be trifled with, no matter how much fun you think it might be." The light from her eyes flickered eerily. "If I was a ghost then I could have spirited you away by now. Not all ghosts are kind."

( Kids will believe anything though. ) wink

Aliqua's ears perked up in alarm. She didn't think of that! Then this one was a kind ghost, right? The foal stared into the mare's unfriendly gaze. Her words of warning sunk in. ...mmm, no. Ghost or not, she wasn't friendly. "Well, um, I'm sorry to have bothered you. I, um, I hear my mother calling. Can't keep her waiting, right?" She faked a smile backing up a few nervous steps.

"I'll um, I'll just be going now." She backed up a few more steps, unwilling to turn her back on the mare in case of any suspicious ghost-like activity. Her rump hit a tree so reluctantly she turned and began walking away. A sound of a woodpecker overhead scared the daylights out of her and she ran off thinking the ghost was coming to get her. She'd run while she still has the chance! Now she knew why you don't talk to strangers.

( Ten or so posts sounds decent on a scare-the-foal RP but if you'd prefer you can chase her too just to give her a fright. 3nodding )

Bushkin snorted with distaste at the sight of the retreating foal. She was glad that the foal had left but was disdainful at such gullibility. What were parents teaching their foals these days? That you would find a ghost or a demon walking around in broad daylight? Ridiculous.

She turned back to the trail and got back to her walk. She was glad the foal had left in the end. It meant that nothing unfortunate was going to happen. She could feel the demon that was within her looking through her eyes even now. It was starting to wake up, and she just hoped no one was around when it did...
