She needed a break from her mechanical wings - no matter what she did, they simply lacked that certain finesse. She was missing something, there was a key element that she wasn't considering but for the life of her, she couldn't quite put her hoof on it. Countless hours across countless days had only resulted in further frustration and she had eventually decided to take the advice of her parents i.e. come back to it at a later date with a fresh set of eyes, solutions always stood out better whenever you did that. Consequently, with one of her projects set on the proverbial back burner she had elected to pursue another of her ideas.

A treehouse.

She'd spent weeks drawing out the blueprints with her companions and, with the help of the woodpeckers, had even carved out a permanent one that could be used as reference. It was a rather complex project, with many parts to it and due to this it required a significantly greater amount of time to gather all the necessary resources. This afternoon the mare was after thatching and the only suitable location for this (according to her estimations) were the river beds, particularly those that were clogged up with reids. It should have come at no surprise that she had set her amber gaze upon a very specific river for this purpose.

Ensuring that her thirst had been quenched and her stomach had been filled in a manner that would keep her energetic for a good few hours, she had proceeded with all due haste towards this particular river and had now reached her destination. She paused for good measure, lifted her head and with a flare of her nostrils took in the heedy scent of damp reids and soggy foliage. Mmm, it may have been raining the night before but today had all the signs of being a pleasant one - absolutely perfect for reid harvesting!

No doubt about it, it was humid, and humid meant sticky. Thankfully there had been a river not far from where he had taken shelter form the rain the day before. He was glad for the end of the showers, and for the chance to wash the mud off his hooves and legs. Ever since he was a foal he enjoyed swimming, and any body of water was fair game as far as he was concerned.

The stallion had not wasted anytime in wading into the middle of water, pleased to discover it was deep enough to cover him up to his neck, but not so deep or swift he had to actually swim. Hakon closed his eyes simply enjoying the feel of the water over his back. There was nothing like peace and quiet, surrounded by the sound of birds, and the crisp, clean, smell of the earth after the rain.

Perfect, simply perfect. Nope it didn't get much better then this....

Quiet and peaceful?

These were two words that this particular mare had never really learnt to pronounce. This would be what her family claimed at least; she was boisterous, exhuberant and literally oozed energy. If an individual aspired to have a relaxing day with peace and tranquility abound then it was best to retreat as far as possible from the eccentric female. Unfortunately, Hakon had not been blessed with prior warning and as a result he would have absolutely no idea of the disturbance that would quite literally, come crashing into his life. Alas, the spirits had a sense of humour in that respect - they often liked to throw curveballs.

As it was, the mare had broken into a light canter as she approached the river and this had quickly turned into a full gallop. The closer she came, the quicker she went and it was with a dramatic squeal that she leapt into the air and crossed the gap between herself and the reads. Or rather, it would have been more accurate to say that it was a valiant attempt to cross the gap - she had misjudged her distances by a few inches and as a consequence she went plunging into the depths of the river in a most undignified manner.

Never one to take embarassment in anything, the mare soon resurfaced and with an amused chuckle, gave her head a shake to clear her vision. She then began to wade back out of the water towards the shore and once there, gave herself another shake. She eventually conceded that she needed to put work into her depth perception to avoid future hazards like that. Nevertheless, she could at least confirm to her parents that she had received a reasonable bath (or three) after the day was through.

Thoroughly distracted by her reids, she had immediately noticed the stallion. Then again it might have been difficult for her at a glimpse, given that only part of his neck and his head were the only things visible!
