 Kesia was hiding from Daddy again. If he tried to spend one more minute with her she was going to wind up biting him. She didn't want to learn anything from him. And she certainly didn't want any of her siblings to see him fawning over her. Not only was it embarrassing, but they would make fun of her terribly for it. As if the family nickname of Heartbutt wasn't galling enough, honestly. She went to hide in her favorite spot to try and avoid all of her family, but typically someone was already there.

Junpei had evaded her older siblings for most of the day - there was only so much of the crown princess she could take, and the males of her family weren't much better. She couldn't wait until she was older like Kepo - then she'd show her family what she could do. She wouldn't just be the littlest sister anymore.
Of course, things could be worse. She could be Daddy's favorite.
"Hey, Kesia," Junpei greeted her sister as she approached. In general, Junpei thought Kesia was one of the few hyenas who had worse luck then her. At least she didn't look like their father. And no one had cute nicknames for her. Hearbutt? Really?

"Hey, Junpei." Kesia scuffed her paw in the dirt. If anyone had to find her secret hiding-from-Daddy-spot she supposed that Junpei was one of the least frustrating ones. At least Junpei wasn't as much of a t**t as the rest of her siblings. "What're you doing here?" She didn't want to be brusk, but she really needed time away from Dad, and if Junpei spilled her hiding place... well no one would be happy.

"I'm just trying to hide from Zalika and Kibibi. And Kepo. And Kero and Kele. And everyone else who wants to boss me around or do something dumb. I hope Zalika has some pups by one of the males soon, because she's driving me crazy. Maybe taking care of a bunch of newborns would keep her off my butt."
Junpei had a rather poor opinion of most of her older siblings and cousins. And her dad. She was fairly concerned that only her mom and aunt, the queens, and the females of her litter had any sense.
"Course she'd probably pick the dumbest male in the world and their pups would be even worse."

"I'll make you a deal. If you don't tell Dad about this place, I won't tell any of the others where you are." That should inspire silence out of her younger sibling. It wasn't odd to her at all how dysfunctional her family was. She didn't know anything different, though she certainly wasn't going to get cubs by stupid males. Only the best would she bring back one day.

"Deal," Junpei said quickly. Anything to get some peace and quiet. Junpei started to settle back down in her spot, as she stared vacantly off in the distance. "It's a shame you look so much like dad, I bet he'd leave you alone if you weren't all stripey like him. Though then our sisters would bug you like they bug me, probably."

"Yeah, I bet. You're lucky is just our sisters giving you nonsense. I have to deal with that and Dad. Why'd it have to be me? Everyone already gives me crap for being like him physically." Kesia sighed. "Well, whatever. I'll show them someday. So besides being younger, why do they get on your tail? I mean you're the youngest, but surely Mom'll have more pups eventually. Perish the thought."

"I guess I'm so far from the throne I might as well be male or something," Junpei drew angry squiggles in the dirt with her paw. "And I dunno about more pups. There are so many of us already, and a lot of us (with the clear indication that this meant the OTHER litter, not the fairly responsible and relatively idiot-male free litter that the esteemed sisters themselves came from) are a bit useless. Besides, how much time can she spend with dad anyway? He ate poop."

"Ugh, don't talk about Daddy Poop Breath. Seriously, I don't see what Mom sees in him. He's not even that great looking." Oh yes, there was the accidental revelation of her own deeply rooted self esteem issues popping up.
"I guess it depends on if Mom realizes that some of us (with the slight emphasis to indicate that she fully comprehended Junpei's undertone) are totally useless. If she does, she might have more pups if she doesn't, I guess it's up to us to bring intelligence to the pride."

Junpei looked around, again, before lowering her voice a bit. "I heard that one of our hyenas is coming back soon, maybe with pups. She's been gone for a bit and I heard one of the scouts talking that she thought she had seen her from a way off, with a big belly."
Junpei considered this to be exciting news indeed; more pups meant . . . well, who knows what it meant. Mainly it meant that there would be younger hyenas then her, but also that there might be some more worth talking too.

"I hope they're mostly girl pups." Kesia commented. They certainly had enough ridiculous males, particularly their brothers. "It'd be good to have more pups though. I think it's probably always a good thing." She scratched her ear with a hind paw. Dratted itch. She hoped her Dad hadn't given her fleas or something. Who knows what kind of vermin poo eaters carried around.
"I can't wait to grow up and explore the rogue lands. I want to find a smart male who'll give me really smart and strong pups. Maybe I'll even bring back some likely males with me." It was her life long dream to be on the council.

"I'm going to go out too," Junpei was certain of that, although she had no real council aspirations. Queen was more her style, but equally unattainable.
"Girl pups would be the best, although I think there will probably be some males. I mean, males are kind of necessary. Even if they're dumb."

"If you want to take a nap, I'll wake you up if I hear dad or anyone coming," Junpei said charitably. "That should help you avoid dad for a while longer, and that way I'll be doing something important if someone comes around whining for me to help solve their problems. Go ahead and go to sleep."

"You are totally my favorite sibling today." Not that being her favorite bestowed any great things to Junpei, but Kesia felt the need to state it anyway as she settled down for her well earned nap.
