One thing that Sara had learned about Lunaria was that despite its wealth there were people who lived in poverty. Neatly hidden from the houses of the upper class's the beggars and the homeless were usually forgotten. Some earned very little money but this did not stop them from wasting it on these like booze. In the more deprived area's the taverns were always full and even in the middle of the day some were already intoxicated. Sara wondered down one of the main streets, her long silky hair dancing behind her in the gentle wind. She was a pretty little thing and because of her status the clothes she wore were rich compared to those most people who lived in this area. Hua, her Guardian, had always told her to keep her guard up when roaming around these places. However despite this she had grown comfortable with them. However today was going to show her that she really should not have. On her way past the old bar she gained two followers.
"Hey gorgeous where are you heading?" Asked one man, catching up to walk by her side. They were both older than her, not by much but bigger and stronger none the less. Their clothes had rips and stains on them, however Sara was raised in a poor area so she was not as disgusted by their attire as other Lunarians might be. She tried to walk a little ahead of them, looking to the man who had asked her the question with a polite smile, she was a little uncomfortable but inside was telling herself that she was making a big deal out of nothing. She truly believed that they did not have bad intentions, or she wanted to. "Good Afternoon, I am heading back home. Have a safe night." She tried to shake them off quickly, her tone was polite but as soon as she finished with her words she picked up speed a little more, eyes set on the path ahead. She told herself not to go back, not to make eye contact. Truth be told she was a little scared and uncomfortable, who would not be? "Aww, isn't she sweet. You have clearly been bread right." She heard one say to the other, little did they know that she had a very poor upbringing, she was not taught to read for many years or the proper way to speak or act. This all came after she became a resident of the city. However she did believeher parents brought her up right, she knew the difference between right and wrong and she was always loved. She kept her eyes forward however one of the men came around in front of her, making her stop her eyes darted to the ground, she did not want to look up. "Indeed, I think my parents raised me well." She replied, she knew they would not leave her alone so she was looking for a chance to get away, there was no way she could fight them off or overpower them. She was not a fighter, not by any standards. "Haha, hey I have seen her before she is one of those Priestess's from the temple." Sara gulped and walked around him, almost straight into the other man. She shook her head, her heart spreading up in her chest. There was no one around to call out to, no one to help her. "I am not a Priestess yet, maybe one day when my skills have improved."
She nodded her head and turned around to walk the way she had came, maybe she could sink into a shop, maybe she could get back to the main street and the presence of others would put them off their game. However this plan was short lived. "So she is a innocent one, why don't you come and talk to us." Asked one of the men, reaching out and grabbing her arm, she was pulled back and she gasped a little, trying to wiggle free however his grip was tight. "I am sorry but I really must get home." She insisted, she did not know what they were trying to do but the smell of stale alcohol on their breathe suggested they were not in their right minds. They could be dangerous and the fact they were stopping her from leaving frightened her. The other man just laughed as his friend held onto her. "Come on, we arn't going to hurt you." He voiced, Sara's eyes shook as he reached out and grabbed a strand of her long teal hair. "N-no let go!" She protested, trying to pull back harder, her eyes scanning around for anyone who would come and help her. How had she walked into such a mess? Nothing like this had every happened to her before. She had taken this route home for months now, it was a short cut. One that she was convinced she would never take again. The man covered her moth when he heard her scream, nervous that someone would hear her."Shush, there is no need to make such a racket." He whispered as she continued to struggle.

It was another unremarkable day, one Li happened to have off -- not exactly something she looked forward to anymore. Usually, she'd spend the time bonding with her family or sailing; her family, however, left a note saying they were attending a party held by the neighbors and those she oft sailed with were land-locked while they made some repairs that the last passing storm made a necessity. Thus, for the first time in her life, Li was bored.
One thing the school had instilled in the young femme was a sense of urgency. Doing nothing - idle hands, they were her bane and would not be suffered. Making her rounds, even though she wasn't technically 'on the clock,' she entertained herself by running up the side of the surrounding walls and walking atop them, jumping to and fro between when they were close enough. When they got too crumbly and rickety in the slums, she resumed walking in the middle of the street, whistling to herself and skipping stones instead. It was too slow, too anxiety-inducing to do nothing, and it was about the time she decided she was going back to the training grounds to whollop something that she heard the cry to be let go.
Snapping her head to the side, her eyes narrowing dangerously, her feet kicked off the street and vaulted her towards the voices without hesitation. In passing - never breaking her stride - she seized a piece of support wood for one of the stands that sometimes lined the road, tucking it up against her back so as not to trip herself and spotting the Lunarians that had caught her attention: two ratty looking men and a woman that definitely looked like she was on the wrong side of the island. Giving no audible warning, she slid right up to one of the males and swung the support beam low, knocking his feet out from under him. With the momentum of her swing, she arched with a follow through and caught him beneath his chin with the end of it, smacking him further away with a noticeable crack! She didn't do so much as pause before the flat butt of the thing smashed into the other man's nose, jarring him away from the girl that she quickly slid in front of.
Standing upright, the wooden pole at her side, she looked at the drunkards without doing so much as panting, almost bored in her expression. "Two for two, now those are nice odds, aren't they?" The darkness that dripped from her voice was hard to miss, the heavy hood of her brow over her vibrantly bright eyes lending to the anger that rolled off of her like a palpable wave. Li turned to her side, legs slightly bent, preparing to strike again if one did so much as put a finger towards the femme at her back. "Miss, if they fancy another go, I'd suggest leaving immediately," she remarked to the rich-looking woman behind her, her voice measurably more calm, if not kind, when directed to the other.

What happened next could only be compared to a hurricane. A beautiful pale haired women came down from the heavens and to be quite blunt about it... took out the two men with very little effort. Sara backed up slightly, eyes wide as she watched the women. She was so entranced by what was happening it did take her a moment to click onto the fact that she was now being addressed. "Erm... Y-yes of course." She nodded, before she knew it the two men were scurrying back into the shadows like two mice running away from a hungry cat. She let out a sigh of relief, before approaching her savour.
"Thank you. I can not believe I let myself get into such a situation, I sure will not be wondering home this way any time soon." She let out a small nervous chuckle, she had never had any trouble this way before but now that she had she was in no rush to repeat it. Even though the main roads took longer they were safer so it was worth it. She gave the women a small bow. "You are very strong Miss. Very heroic too -- I dare not think what would have happened if you did not intervene." She would be lying if she denied admiring her, had always wanted to become stronger and more independent. She wanted to be able to take care of herself like this women obviously could.
"M-my name is Sara, it is a pleasure to meet you." The danger had obviously passed and Sara felt the need to show the women her appreciation, after all she had just possible saved her life. In a way she was in her debt.

As the two offenders dashed off, Li straightened her posture and pressed the pole against the ground, glaring off after the men until they were out of sight. Only when she was sure their tails were thoroughly tucked between their legs and they'd not see hide nor hair of them for the rest of the day did she turn her violet eyes upon the rich woman, inclining her head in agreement. "We live in troubled times," she said by way of trying to soothe the other's nerves, "we must look out for ourselves for none shall look out for us in turn." Carefully, Li put the pole against the side of the wall next to another closed stand, preparing to go on her way -- except that the noblewoman was still addressing her.
Somewhat surprised - but also rather pleased - the femme tilted her head at the compliments and gave a small, polite smile. "Not at all, m'Lady. I've the ability to fight and it'd be an insult to my teachings to not put that knowledge to use." Li didn't want the other to think she was...violent or anything, as she rarely fought so openly, least of all in front of others. Her favored venue for battle was in the company of friends or in spar-clubs that knew what to expect and embraced it. Violence on the streets lead only to the battle between the Legion and the Nobles -- and while she had taken sides, that was not her purpose just now.
Folding her hands together by her hips, she bowed to Sara, respecting their difference in station as well as the greetings offered first. "I am Li, Lady Sara. Were it that our meeting was under better circumstance, but I am pleased to meet you." Straightening, the Legionnaire offered another polite smile, turning her eyes briefly over the woman. Sara looked younger than she'd expect of a Noble to be out on their own, but she truly knew little of their way of life. Finding that her manners were winning over her sense of self-preservation, Li dipped her head in another bow and extended a hand in the direction that Sara had been walking. "I'm heading in the same direction," she fibbed kindly, "might I see you home, m'Lady?"

"That we do, it is sad when someone can not even walk home after a day at the temple with out trouble starting. People who do not even want to fight are getting dragged into the mess -- indeed, it makes me very sad. Spirits prey it is over soon, for all our sakes." She smiled, she could not change what was happening in the world, yet she could feel like she was helping a little with her prayers and healing. It would not win the war, however it kept innocent people from dying and that to her was enough to let her sleep easy at night. Sara smiled and nodded her head. "You honour your teachings, defending those who can not defend themselves is a very admirable quality, and I appreciate it. I really can not thank you enough." What was someone to say in such a situation what could you do to show how grateful you really were?
"Li, it suits you well." She stated softly repeating her savours name to herself, it was sweet and to the point, it seemed like it was indeed a lot like the violet eyed girls personality. She bowed her head out of respect and then held her hands out shaking them slightly. "You have already done so much, I would not want to inconvenience you further. However if we are heading in the same direction the company would not be rejected." She stated with a small smile as she took a step ahead. Her guardians estate was by the edge of the forest, not too far away but after what just happened she would feel safer with someone walking by her side. Sara stood close to the girl, not close enough to invade her personal space but close enough so people who saw them on the street would know they were together.
Li might have not known this but despite her looks Sara did not have a penny to her name, her clothes and trinkets were all gifts from her Guardian and Masters. She was born a lower class farm girl and at heart she still was - she had no wish for material possessions but at the same time would feel rude turning down such thoughtful items. Especially because she knew first hand she was lucky to have them. I guess it was a case of not judging someone by their cover, Sara herself did not assume anything she was not told. However so far Li had given her no reason for the young Mongolian to believe she was nothing but perfect. She was strong, kind and clearly very thoughtful.

"The temple?" she repeated, though there was a tender note of approval in her voice. A Noble that still saw fit to visit the holy vessels of faith was a remarkable notion to her, one that endeared her immediately to the gently-spoken femme. The familiarity in which Sara spoke of the spirits piqued Li's interest, though she did not comment on it, taking the trusted words thoughtfully. Then...was Sara one that dealt with the deceased? "Lunaria preserve us," she murmured in soft agreement, "we've many battles to wage before peace can be had. May She watch over you, Sara, in these trying times." The warrior was generally not one to share blessings, but it was easy for her to fall into praise and respect of the Goddess she believed in so wholly. Who was she to judge anyone who embraced their traditions and old ways?
The compliment to her name earned a polite smile, tipping her head kindly to Sara. She'd heard many variants on expression of her name, for all the meanings behind it -- but to be received positively was still unusual, if not welcome. "My gratitude," she replied with a partial bow as her greetings had been. "And I assure you, Lady Sara, company on such a day is of no inconvenience." Easily falling into step next to the smaller woman, she clasps her hands behind her back in a lackadaisical fashion, her posture at ease. She was not yet so rigid in personality that she could not enjoy a simple walk with another and expect to be stabbed in the back, but she was watchful and vigilant. It was simply her way to assure the safety of others, even in the most mundane settings. Rare was the time that Li forgot herself and gave in to a moment of fun or reckless play.
With her previous assumptions already beginning to have holes poked in them, the lotus-haired femme kept her thoughtful conjectures to herself. She'd rather ask, now, than to think that Sara was simply another standard Noble. "Might I ask, what you do at the temple?" To Li, it was a mostly innocent question. Many people went to pray, some went to pay their respects, some went to ask for help and some still went to donate their time. It was harmless for the most part, but to Li, it was relevant and somewhat important. Sara's gentle demeanor spoke loudly that the female had a deeper tie than a surface visit, but in the spirit of not assuming, she felt it didn't hurt to ask.

"There is no need for anyone to watch over me, I am not fighting on the front line. I have to admit the thought of people fighting on the street terrifies me. I have my guardians and the spirits but I would prefer they look over the people who actually are in danger." She smiled, she knew there were a lot of people out there who would need the blessing of the spirits a lot more than she did. People like Li who put themselves in danger to help others and fight for their beliefs. People like Hua who had sworn to protect her even if it meant her death, Sara hated the idea of her guardian dying for her sake. She had come to love the wolf maiden like a mother away from home and did not want to be responsible for Lunaria loosing one of its brightest stars. Yet the Legion felt the need to keep her safe so there was little she could do about it. Though she still was yet to understand why her life was worth more than another's, she was born with a gift but that did not make her life any more important in the eyes of brothers, sisters and friends.
"I am in training to be a Priestess of the Temple. I am still a student at the moment but hopefully soon my masters will see it fit for me to graduate and take on more important duties. I specialise mainly in the spirits of the dead, in communication and healing. I spend almost every day of my life there studying - however I still have the basic duties to do. Changing the oils, lighting candles, hearing people in confession, joining in prayer sessions, cleaning the halls and tending to the garden. Just things to help keep the place running. The master is quite old and I have to care for him at times. It is not very exciting but behind the scenes a lot of work goes into keeping such a holy place." Master Noki was a old man, his mind was still as strong and as active as it had always been yet his slow movements and the wrinkles on his skin told the story of a man a the later of his years. He was a gentle man, one that Sara herself admired a lot and it was through this she took it on herself to make his remaining years as comfortable as she could. His temple was a small one, one of many in the Imperial City however the residents all knew his face.
She thought for a moment about her duties and how many she actually had to do. They were simple enough but she knew soon the time would come were new blood came to take their vows, freeing up a lot of her time. Then she would be able dedicate more time to her studies in order to become a official Soul Conduit. She had been waiting for that moment since she first came here, she swore to her parents that she would one day be a Priestess and do some real good in the world. To show that the girl who was once picked on for being different could be a person that other people would look to for help, so that her spirit may rest peacefully in the knowledge that the world she left was a little better because she was in it. She knew she still had a long way to go, Sara might have a good heart but that did not make a person flawless. She had her flaws, things that were holding her back which were just part of her character. Her cowardly nature had gotten her into a lot of trouble and her awkward social skills had crippled her for a time, yet she was slowly finding it easier to summon her voice.
Sara came to Lunaria as shy girl who would not speak up often in fear that others might take offence to her common wording, she was born a poor farm girl and she found the upper class intimidating. So she started to listen to them, absorb there words and use them as a shield. Now she became more comfortable in talking to people - some might call her overly formal however she saw that better than offending someone by talking to them too familiarly. She smiled, the heels on her shoes echoing down the streets, ever so often someone would walk passed them. Giving the two girls a quick look before continuing on their way. Sara smiled polity at ever one who made eye contact with her, she had a respect for the lower class's, once upon a time she knew what it was like to have little money and she did not see someone any less for not being born into a wealthy family, in a way she respected them more for their struggles. The gap between class's was huge here and settling in at the Ookami estate had been hard but she felt like she was slowly coming to dance to the rhythm of life.
She looked at the women next to her and then went on to continue her explanation. "When I graduate I do want to become a full time healer, my spirit guide has leant me towards the path. In his life he was a healer and returned many families their loves ones after battle. I might not want to get involved in the war or its politics but it would be dishonouring the spirits gift if I do not help the people who would need it most. I believe the spirits brought me to Lunaria for a reason, and I believe that reason is to keep the deaths as low as I can and make sure as many people as possible come out of this conflict alive. We all play out parts, in different ways." Just because she could not hold a weapon did not mean that she did not have a role to play. Sara had been taught that the spirits controlled everything, they wrote a persons destiny and the meaning of ones life was to follow that path and live out the life which was given to them. Everything happened for a reason, no matter how small or insignificant it seems. So when Sara learned about the battles and how many people were fighting she saw it no conscience this was the time they chose for her to begin her studies.

The light-haired Lunarian smiled, a maternal gesture that softened her more severe features. "We all need a little help from time to time, Lady Sara." Li would have pointed out what had just transpired, but that felt tacky, and thus she let it pass, instead thanking whatever spirits watched over the temple-goer that she had been in the vicinity to counter the lecherous men.
Listening politely as Sara talked, she was minutely intrigued by the depth of the reply. "I understand the process of menial tasks; training is no different. We may progress in our studies but we are to be kept humble and remembering where we came from by cleaning and sharpening our own weapons and that of others, polishing gear, tending to the sparring grounds..." A brief smile flickered over her lips, expression momentarily thoughtful. Where as the chores might have been considered bothersome by comparison to the clash of battle, Li found contentment in the simple things. Like cleaning a house to whisk away the negativity that may linger after a trying time, she found that tending to her gear and that of others was a honing process, reminding her that each swipe of whetstone on blade and each rung fixed in armor could make all the difference of success and failure. They each had their own elbow grease to put in, it was simply in a different manner. "It's a great responsibility, to keep the temple at an even flow. Many of us rely on you for that comfort."
Li paid those who passed little mind, casting only a brief flick of amethyst eyes over each to assess before returning her gaze to the road, her attention wholly on the Priestess at her side. It was, in a way, an honor to be in the presence of one so revered, though the light-haired femme had little means to express her wonder. She had always been fascinated by those who were Touched by Lunaria Herself, communing with those who had passed on and using their gifts to further Her people. Noble or Legion, it was worth praising the efforts of someone so dedicated in their craft.
"War is never a pretty business and any who desire it are troubled souls indeed," she remarked softly, "but your desire to help at all, Lady Sara, is beyond commendable. You save not only those who may have fallen, but their families, their future mate and children. You lend to the very preservation of our kin, and for that, I admire your resolve. It is no small task you take upon yourself." Bowing her head slightly to the Priestess, she offered yet another chaste smile, hoping she wasn't being too verbose. She wasn't the most talkative creature but she found that words were coming far easier than she could have anticipated. Noble or not, she found a common ground with Sara; it was not something she'd let go so easily.
