Sparkling Senshi

It had been a few weeks since her awakening by one kitten named Derp and one sailor senshi named Albali. Christa still didn't know what to make of it all, to be perfectly honest. She found herself powering up every night simply to see what it felt like, and even tried to patrol when she felt particularly confident. She wasn't sure what made her decide this was the right thing to do, but here she was, running from rooftop to rooftop gingerly. She was told she could sense energy signatures, but now she felt nothing. She didn't know what an energy signature even felt like, so how could she know when she came across one?

"Just have to remember, I have to protect people..." she said to herself, leaping to land with a crunch onto another rooftop of a grocery store. Her outfit provided little protection and if anything, looked like she'd been through the ringer already with all the holes in it. She had to ask whether or not her fuku, was it?, was used, being in the condition it was in. They responded in the negative - it was supposed to look like that. And what was she again? Senshi of Madness? While appropriate for her demeanor and her hobbies, she still wasn't sure how it all worked.

She stood behind a billboard up on the roof to catch her breath. She would need more physical training to keep up with the demands of the new job, and a new sleep schedule, but when Christa wanted a distraction from her family's immediate crisis, this wasn't what she had in mind. Taking a few shaky breaths, she sunk to a seated position and looked up at the sky for a while. Was her moon up there? She'd never heard the name before that fateful night. Research would have to be done. This new position of senshi gave her more responsibilities, and more questions, than she thought possible.

Wait. Something pricked the edge of her perception. Was that... was that the Negapeople that Albali and the kitten mentioned? She scooted to the edge of the billboard and peeked out, wondering if she could see whoever it was.

There was a ninja... well... a part time ninja, sitting on one of the Roof top Air Conditioning units.

Part time because every so often he would shift the handful of notes he was busily writing to pull down the half face mask so that he could sip from a steaming thermos cap. The thermos itself was sitting beside him, one of those old fashioned green things with metal tops that look ready to be taken to war if one should need to between trips to the soccer field.

He sipped a few times, set the cup down and then tugged the mask back in place. He paused only a moment to turn the page of his notebook and jot a few words before calling out in a surprisingly civil tone.

"I can feel you Senshi... if you're planning on doing something at least have the decency to come out of hiding and introduce yourself."

He turned vaguely in her direction, apparently power signatures were not a precise art. Certainly his seemed rather... all inclusive. Had there been more people in the area it might have been hard to tell that the 'dark' feeling aura was specifically coming from him, regardless of its breadth.

Kallichore stifled a gasp and whipped back to her hiding position, eyes wide. It was one of the bad guys, for certain. He was a great deal more composed than she was - no doubt due to training and experience. Could she even win against someone like him? Standing up and brushing herself off, she balled her hands into fists. You have to remember, you're a super hero now. You have to save people from the likes of him, no matter how scary he may be. You have to remember that! If she could go back in time and tell herself she would be in this position, Christa would likely laugh and brush it all off as insanity.

How appropriate.

Once she gained enough confidence and the adrenaline was pumping, Christa, no, Kallichore stepped out from behind the billboard and spotted the young man not too far from her position on an opposite rough. Turning to him, her introduction came to her like she'd done it a thousand times before. "I am Sailor Kallichore, Senshi of Madness! I'm here to put an end to you." There, did she cover everything? Maybe. She thought so. While her voice wavered a bit, the adrenaline kept her blood running and her eyes focused. He was definitely an enemy, but... was he an enemy a green senshi could defeat? If anything, getting away with her life and living to fight another day was noble in and of itself. As she watched the young man, her eyes scanned his surroundings.

Was he... sipping tea? And taking notes? Kallichore blinked. Was this guy for real? No, he was conducting surveillance, most definitely. It all made sense now. Someone had to gather intelligence on the enemy, and who better than a nonchalant individual in a trench coat? Trench coats were definite signs of badguyness if the movies were to be believed. They had to get it from somewhere, right?

He blinked at her, once... twice. "Kall-eh-chore?" he repeated. "How do you spell that?" He asked and jotted a quick few more notes. "You're new? Or at the very least I haven't seen you before."

He paused glancing her over. "Madness.. well, that sounds...unpleasant."

The pen tapped against the paper for a moment and, he made almost no other move, just sat there, almost expectant.

"...Would you like some tea?" He offered quite abruptly.

Well, if that didn't snuff the fires of inspiration...

Christa coughed and stared at the boy. Sitting, she didn't know how tall he was, but she assumed that, being a bad guy, he was at least pushing six feet. They were all super tall, right? But then again, in her favorite novels, the villains hid in plain sight and were average, everyday people. That's probably what the Negaverse wanted, just the same as the senshi - people who looked normal and could blend in no matter what the environment. It was a perfect plan on both sides, but probably lent to a great deal of paranoia. "Kall-eh-core-ay." she corrected simply, but did not spell it out for him. The last thing she wanted was for someone to have more information on her than she had on them.

Crossing her arms, she contemplated leaping to his rooftop, but that could prove quite dangerous. If she learned anything from her previous fight, it was that her attack had some distance to it, and distance she would keep. "Who might you be?" She wanted to know who she was about to do battle with. No doubt he could leap up from his prone position and attack her at any moment, so she stood there, frowning and tense.

"Ahhh..." He said nodding as though the broken down way she had said it was every bit as good as spelling it.

"Zinkenite..." he offered civilly in return, and then added "Zink-eh-nite" the corners of his eyes creased as he smiled behind the dark fabric, amused.

"No tea then..." He added and jotted another note, glanced up at her and added one more, "Coffee drinker, or Soda." He continued like they'd met over a hot dog stand in the park rather than perched on someone's roof, cross legged on an AC unit.

Zinkenite. So they were named after minerals, and she had a name to place with the face (or what little of the face she could see). Still, he didn't seem like he was going to be getting up any time soon, and if Kallichore had the opportunity to take out or distract one of the surveillance operatives, then she should take it. The less they knew about the city, the better it would be for the inhabitants. The senshi knew what she had to do, but getting there was another thing entirely. She had to do something or he could report back to his superiors with more information, thus making his mission a success. She couldn't have that.

Therefore, Kallichore braced herself and leaped across the gap that separated them, putting her hands to her ears for her attack. Aiming square at the young man, she had to make the attack count. She could only pull it off once. "Pulse of the Maddened!" she cried, throwing a distorted missile out in front of her. It sailed through the air like steam, warping the area around it as it traveled. Kallichore stayed in her position, waiting anxiously to find out whether or not her attack connected. She had to do something, she had to!

Perhaps she could find Albali and tell her who she had found. The more information spread throughout the senshi, the better.

He flinched like he was expecting far worse... for a moment he seemed surprised, like he'd expected physical damage from the assault, and then he looked troubled... distressed. Hands went to his ears as though to block out some sound she could not hear.

He vanished, not far but he still vanished in a small rush of air to stagger and grip the supports of the water tower. "Shut up...Shut UP!..." He said sounding distressed at whatever he heard, his eyes locked on hers and he flicked something small towards her. They seemed almost harmless, tiny purple crystals that landed at her feet, and then started belching thick grey smoke as he pulled up his goggles, the reason becoming all to quickly clear.

"DO NOT attack what you don't understand Senshi, first rule of business!" He called through the smoke and then swore again, snapping back at some unheard voice "I don't know... I don't KNOW shut up!"

What little glory she had from her attack connecting was swiftly washed away in a cloud of smoke. The crystals this Zinkenite threw at her exploded into a cloud of choking gas, bringing Kallichore to her knees. Tears welled up in her eyes, her nose burned, her lungs practically melted and she could not breathe. She couldn't see, could hardly breathe and everything felt like it was on fire. Kallichore put out her hands and tried to pull herself away from the cloud, away from Zinkenite, and to safety. She could not make it very far and instead found the very edge of the rooftop. Should she try and roll over it? No, that could prove even worse since she couldn't see what was below her. It could be a straight shot to pavement, and that would be the end of it.

Don't attack what you don't understand? In between choking and gasping, Kallichore didn't know what he was trying to say - he was evil, she was good. What else was there to understand? She may not have known much about the Negaverse, but she knew they were after the earth and it was up to her and others like her to stop them. They had a mission. But despite all the adrenaline in her system, the senshi couldn't bring herself to take a deep breath of air or to stand. She was a sitting duck at the moment, and wondered if she would see home again.

Perhaps the voices from her attack would distract him long enough for the cloud to clear and she could stagger away?

"Facinating attack you have my Dear..." he growled striding through the smoke, impervious it seemed. "Can you do it again?" his voice was a growl of irritation but drawn into taught civility.

He twitched, turning towards another voice but Looking back with fierce concentration. "I have more smoke if you want to try again. If not... Then you can consider this a warning."

Kallichore shakily stood up, wheezing and coughing slowly subsiding. Her eyes still watered with great intensity, but she could at least get some air into her lungs. How? How could he be so much more powerful than she was? Kallichore didn't understand it one bit. Weren't they all on the same boat? Her blurred vision didn't give her a good look at his facial features, but his voice betrayed enough of what he was feeling. Backing up to the edge of the building, she still couldn't see down far enough to find out whether or not she'd be swan-diving straight into concrete. Turning to face Zinkenite's general direction, the senshi wiped more tears from her eyes. Damn him and his gas crystals. What kind of weapon was that? Effective is what it was, and she cursed him for having something she would prefer to have access to instead.

"Are you more sturdy from training, or are you just that evil?" she wheezed, squinting to keep her eyes on the Negaverser. Maybe it was the tea?! Kallichore shook her head and concentrated. She couldn't let her guard down, not now. The last thing she wanted was to be in a compromised position, just asking for an attack. She wasn't strong enough to beat this guy, but why?
PostPosted: Tue Apr 12, 2011 4:43 pm

"Oh you -are- new aren't you..." He shook his head and folded his arms, scowling at her before pivoting back to pick up the cap off his thermos and tossed the remains of the tea across the roof, it was nothing more than boiled leaves. No blood of virgins or distilled star seeds, just Earl Grey with a hint of orange.

"Oh yes... Evil, that MUST be why we oppose you, because you are SO clearly the 'good guys'." He growled with such dripping sarcasm you could have drowned in it. He paused scowling and clenching his fist as he tried hard to ignore the voices that were at least starting to dissipate from her attack.

"I quite forgot, they probably don't tell you that the SENSHI are the ones who were torturing people not a week ago. Or is torture now a pillar of virtues I was previously unaware of. I may not be a Knight templar, but at least I'm not rushing in to throw the first -stone, I do my reading first."

Yes, she was new. That much was very apparent, but she went along with what she was told - save the city from the Negaverse, who seek to enslave or destroy it. She thought it was quite simple, but as with any war, people on both (or all) sides were fighting for what they believed in. If one didn't, then how could you expect any sort of results? But what was this guy, Zinkenite, talking about? What torture? The confusion played on Kallichore's face quite plainly, and while they were still in the midst of battle, she paused. Why would her side torture someone? That sounded completely out of line. Weren't they supposed to help people? Peace and love and saving kittens from trees and all that.

"Torture? Who was being tortured, and by who else?" Obviously she didn't know about any of this, and it was quite shocking news. There clearly had to be a good reason for it, right? Torture for information happened during all of the major world wars, but just how far did the war they participated in go? Did it extend beyond the reach of Destiny City? "What are you talking about?"

"My Comrades... many died... painfully." He said and poured a fresh lid of tea, sans smoke and took a small sip testing it, before nodding satisfied that it had not been contaminated.

"Some of them only just older than myself." His voice was quiet, introspective as he took his seat again and jotted notes with a heavy hand. The pen bit into the paper in quick efficient strokes.

"... Cut apart by glass, branding irons, cut throats, broken bones... rats... its amazing what they came up with..." But his voice didn't sound particularly amazed, just bitter.

Kallichore was taken aback. Who would do something like that? Obviously they felt the reasons justified the means to some extent. Still, the bright, shining star of the senshi's goodness seemed rather tarnished if Zinkenite's story was to be believed. Whether or not he was lying was anyone's guess. The newbie senshi wouldn't believe him unless she saw proof, but for the time being, he had dropped his gas crystals. Kallichore considered that a blessing, and her lungs thanked him for it. Placing a hand to her chest, she traced the design of her emblem while he spoke and took notes. It was hard to tell if he was upset by what he was saying. This Zinkenite was the cool and collected type to say the least.

"So... who did this to your comrades?" her voice was quiet too, but she still thought there had to be a justifiable reason for it.
