A snarl came from the back of the orphanage as Deux struggled through his 'file room', which was actually just a pile of notes compiled on the kids he took care of. He checked every one for the pictures of the two getting adopted today, seeing as he couldn't read a bit. Of course, he wasn't really going to do much with them other than change them from the 'Here' pile to the 'Gone' pile, but it felt important all the same. It helped him feel more legitimate, considering that the idea of an 'Eilian Orphanage' was ridiculous to government asshats.
But at the same time, it was a giant pain in the a**. His filing system could barely even be called that besides 'Here' and 'Gone', and right now that was really coming back to bite him. He only had a few minutes before the adopting parents came, and he wanted their signatures on the 'files' as some kind of record. But with this sea of paper around him, it would be a miracle if he found it in time.

One of the teenaged Elians that lived there - in fact, one of the two being adopted today - poked her head into his office about then at the noise. The snarl had scared some of the younger tots, so the girl had decided to pop in and check on their caretaker, and hopefully make sure she could solve whatever it was so he didn't make any more of those.
"What's wrong, Deux? Need help finding something?" the blonde elephant girl asked pleasantly.

"Nah, just frustra'ed, Ellie," came the curt reply as Deux sighed at yet another wrong file and tossed it peevishly into a corner. "Just strugglin' t' find yer and Donneh's files, and et's not like Ah have a lotta time." He turned around and flashed a relieved smile at the elephant Senka, always helpful. Seeing her go was going to put much more pressure on him; he could barely hold this place together as is. 'If yah wanna help, yah could 'elp me look for 'em. I coulda sworn they were around 'ere somewhere..." He trailed off and rubbed his head with a perplexed expression, looking around the desk in confusion. Where the hell did they go...? If one of the kids had taken them, they were gonna get an earful, mark his words...

The girl giggled a bit. "You can't find them because I put them on your desk, Deux!" she said, turning the man away from the filing cabinet and nudging him towards it.
"You told me last night that we were getting picked up today and you had to find the files in the morning, so I set them out for you first thing since I know you have trouble with the cabinet." the teen explained, patting his shoulder, "You shouldn't stress yourself out so much, Deux. You should be taking it easy right now." Ellie sighed and began picking up some of the files now scattered all about, "I'll put things back in the cabinet where they go. Just sit down and take a break."

"Ah- Buh- You serious?" Deux blinked at the elephant girl before shuffling excess papers off of his desk, revealing two perfectly aligned sheets: one with Ellie's picture and one with Donnie's. The ferret stared flabbergasted at them for a moment, then slapped his palm on his head, sighing wearily. "Goddamn, Ah must be goin' blinder. No idea how I missed those."
He looked up at the teenager with a grateful smile at her offer. "'Nd that'd be awesome, Ell. Thank yah so much." He plopped down heavily into his chair, fishing out a cigarette and lighting it gratefully. "Y'know, I have no idea what I'm gonna do wit'out yah. As yah c'n see, I'm totally lost on m' own." A rueful laugh only emphasized Deux's dread. Out of all the little hellspawn here, and especially the bratty teenagers, Ellie was a godsend. When she was gone... He had no idea what he would do.

"I'm just moving to a new place, that's all Deux. I'm sure Markie will let me come back and help out. You know I love you and the little ones too much to just leave you forever." she promised, putting the files on top of the cabinet for a second so she could walk over and hug him, "Also I'm making you put that out once it gets halfway. You still need to cut back." she told him with a pat on his shoulder.
"I think I'll rearrange this file cabinet for you at some point. So you can find people easier." she commented.
Just then, a little boy with bright pink and yellow hair rushed into the room and poked his head up on the desk. "THey here yet, they here yet, 'oo?" still too small to say Deux properly, he just shortened it to the part he could pronounce.
