.::. EVENTS .::. exclaim The rules for each event may differ slightly, so to be sure to read through them before participating.
Current Event: Personality Match! Open to... Firekin owners only. Begins: Now! Ends: 1618th April
Rules: The rules are very simple! The proud parents of the snakes shown above are looking for caretakers for their children. As such, they are currently eyeing up potential firekin members (from young to old) that would be a suitable match with their offspring.
All you have to do for a chance to win one of these little cuties is to fill in the form below, giving a small IC response to why your character might be suitable to take on a familiar.
You can enter as many times as you like, but you will only be able to win one prize.
How will winners be chosen? The snake babies all have a short personality description already written up by me (Kimaria)! The catch is that these personalities will be unknown by you.
At the end of the contest, I'll read through the entries and match up the snakes to the most appropriate lion depending on their pre-set personalities.
For example: A wise and placid lion might be matched up with a similarly calm snake familiar. Or: A bouncy and hyperactive cub might be matched up with a stern familiar who will help him/her focus.
Some Background Information: Itzcóatl and Panna are not your average every day couple. Itz - the father - lives in the desert, familiar to the Historian Fia. He is a superstitious creature who finds bad omens in almost everything he sees. He can be a tad grumpy, particularly with the younger members of the pride, but is all in all a calm and wise creature, though his wisdom is not always seen as such by others.
Panna, on the other hand, does not live in the Motoujamii. She lives with the Goddess of Confusion in the Tuait'tekam and returned to the Firekin only to seek a mate in Itzcoatl due to the lack of males in her homeland. She is a sweet and gentle-natured female who wishes nothing more than to live how her own parents would wish her to (happily and with many children). Currently, the pair have mated only to increase the numbers of their species, though, in time, their relationship will hold more feeling than it does now. Panna, whilst living away from him and her children, will come back to visit him and the children often. They would also be welcome to visit her, though Itz never will since he has no desire to leave the desert.
RP Post to Respond to in form:
Itzcóatl and Panna, curled side by side on the sand, gestured for their children to join them under the sun and cast their eyes out across the sand. They were expecting their possible Firekin caretakers to come by that morning and introduce themselves properly so that they might find a suitable partner for each of their four remaining children.
There were plenty of Firekin, of course, but these parents were picky, each of them looking for different qualities that would ensure that their offspring were well placed within the pride.
Drawing up beside the proud parents came the four children, blinking rapidly under the sun. Obediently, they lined up alongside one another, waiting for the first of the firekin to come and meet them and wondering what would happen if none of them were deemed suitable.
And, when the Firekin arrived, they would be met with a simple question:
"Tell usss about yourssself."

[From other thread]Andranis Contest: Snake FamiliarFirekin Name and Image: Soleil Age: Cub Snake Name: Hinata RP Response: The cub hesitated, ever so slightly, at the question. "Tell you... About myself...?" That seemed so simple, yet... NOT simple. "Well..." She thought carefully. "I'm proud of my lineage.." She puffed her chest, a smile spreading on her face. "My father is Kosuke, his father is Sinbad, HIS father is Mwali, and HIS father is Makadari! So I try to make sure my friends are WORTH my time." She didn't want to mingle with lions that were TOO impure. They were hard to avoid, pride members with a lot of rogue blood. But that was to be expected. "My mother's side includes Bodaway, the really old lion that's turning gray and white with age." She paused. "Not that being old is bad. I'm not sure about my grandmother's side, Kidondo brought her to the pride with him forever ago."
She contemplated her next words. "I like spending time in the sun and looking pretty. I also like dancing!" A glimmer of excitement shone in her gold eyes. "Mother taught us all to dance, and it's really fun!" She didn't realize it then, but it was also great for exercising and maintaining a limber body. "When I grow up, I wanna dance around my opponents and kick their tails across the desert!" She wasn't expressing malice, but rather a desire to have somebody prove their worth. "Daddy told me that when he was trying to win the right to be with Mother, he had to fight Grandpa many times before he could prove his worth with words. I won't settle with a boy or even LOOK at him unless he can prove himself to my father!"
She paused again. "Okay, I got nothin' else."

Contest: Snake FamiliarFirekin Name and Image: Uri'Anik Age: (Cub/Juv/Adol/Adult) Juv (Soon to be Adol though I believe) Snake Name: Tjaard (means watcher) RP Response: Uri stood before the two parents looking down and wondering what he should say for himself. Uri knew that he could use a familiar a friend was always good someone to keep him company, someone who could talk to him when the rocks weren’t. Uri knew that he was special because he was able to talk to the rocks, and the rocks they had good stories too. There was very few that Uri had told about his special talent manly just his mother. He had noticed though that other pride members were starting to notice and give him strange looks when he was conduction conversations with his friends.
Clearing his through Uri tried to find his voice, “Hi there, my name is Uri’Anik” he told the two adult snakes. “I prefer just Uri though. I am a good boy I try my best to stay out of trouble and to help my father care for my mother.” Uri’s mother was frail and well some would say weak of mind Jua was always trying to care for her. “I hope to be a good Firekin boy one day soon, I want to be a solider just like my father. But I still have to learn how to fight better.” In truth Uri hadn’t managed to practice fighting much at all he was always busy talking to the rocks.
Uri thought hard about what to say next and he decided that he should set himself apart from anyone else that might come here today and he knew what made him special. “The most important thing you should know about me is that I can talk to the rocks.” He said in a big bold voice. He gestured as he spoke at the many rocks that were around them, “They all have interesting stories, and they see a lot. They have helped me stay out of trouble and protect me from danger. If one of you babies was to come with me then I could help use the rocks to protect them too.” There he had told them Uri let out a sigh he was proud of himself he was sure he had made a good impression. He gave the two parent snakes a quick bow and offered the babies a kind smile hoping that soon one of them would be his new companion. He couldn’t wait to hear back what the parents had thought of him.

Contest: Snake Familiar Firekin Name and Image: Moja Age: Adult Snake Name: Ayo (joy) RP Response: Moja drew in a deep breath as she thought of how to answer the question. Well, honestly of course... Thoughtfully, she tilted her head and started. "Well, I wasn't born a Firekin," (she didn't know she was a great-great granddaughter of the founding Firekin.) "They offered my daughter and me a home when we were near death and I'm grateful to them. But before that I'd had a litter of five cubs." She paused and thought back to her beautiful daughters. "But I could only bring one. I love cubs and children- that's why I'm a cub sitter- but they grow up and they leave, they return to their parents, and I guess I'm just looking for someone small who could always keep me company."
The lioness smiled sheepishly and her ears went back against her head. She felt like she sounded dumb for saying it, but it was the truth. In her time in the Motoujamii she had yet to find a mate, or even a fling. She had friends, sure, but she wanted constant company, or something to baby. A familiar- like a snake- would fit the bill quite nicely.

Disclaimer: If allowable, this is a dual entry, counting for both Chaka and Shisa (though separately, it's just easier than writing up two different entries when they're almost always together). Shisa has forced Chaka to come and try out, but by having to actually force him the whole way, she demonstrates some of her own personality, inadvertently putting herself in the running. Since you can enter multiple times, my hope is that this is OK. If not, the entry should count for Chaka only.Contest: Snake Familiar Firekin Name and Image: Chaka & Shisa Age: Adult Snake Name: Bero (m, means hot), Inina (f, means glimmer of light) RP Response: (In no more than 500 words)
Chaka stood there before the pair of snakes, looking down at them with narrowed violet eyes with a pair of narrowed yellow eyes looking down on him from the side. Shisa had forced her brother to give whatever this was a shot, feeling it would be a way to give him a little more social interaction without the 'pain' of really dealing with others.
"I'm a soldier," he stated, clearly uncertain how to handle the question.
"And his name is Chaka," Shisa added in, looking down at the snakes with a small smile.
"Yes, thank you, Shisa," Chaka shot back sarcastically, sending a quick glare her way before looking back to the snakes and deciding to take the defiant approach to describing himself, picking traits that he assumed would detract from the desire to pick him, "I spend most of my time training, almost all of it, really. I'm told that that's why I have no friends, but I don't really care."
Shisa stood beside him, rolling her eyes and cutting in again, "We're from a large family and everybody except the two of us are hunters, Chaka likes to pretend that gets to his head but he spends plenty of time helping our broth- -"
Chaka made a noise and opened his mouth to interrupt Shisa but he didn't get a chance.
"Helping our brothers and sisters improve their duelling skills, too," she continued loudly, cutting him off, "He says he doesn't care, but he does."
Shisa turned to her brother who was now staring back at her.
"If you didn't want to be here, you wouldn't be," she said before he could start an argument. Chaka pursed his lips and opted to say nothing and only glare at Shisa. She was right, but he didn't have to admit it- especially where this impressive little display probably didn't help their case much. Under Shisa's stern (and increasingly smug and annoying) gaze, he glanced back at the snakes and gave a nearly-imperceptible nod before stepping back to indicate that he had nothing left to add. Once he stepped back, Shisa gave the snake family a fond smile and stepped back with him to see what they thought.

Contest: Snake FamiliarFirekin Name and Image: Umbia Age: juv Snake Name: Tlitl (fire in nahuatl) RP Response: It was hard for Umbia to not want to suddenly fidget in front of the perfectly aligned snakes. There was something about them... The way their bodies were just a straight line able to be curved. Did this shape give them more freedom to move about the world? It made her curious about whether one of them would want to hang around her after this "interview" of sorts, and if one did, perhaps she would be able to send it off to see things she wouldn't be able to see...
"I'm Umbia," she stated first, sitting herself down patiently - her even-tempered attitude was one of the first things that separated her from most of the quickly riled up pridemembers.
She then stared at the group in brief contemplation before beginning the rest of her answer. There were many things to say, but what could the snake parents want?
"Well, the other day," she started, "One of my brothers wanted to play rough again. They usually like doing that, you know, hoping I would hit back and miss so they can laugh at me. It's fine! My other sisters would actually do that. Claw back, sometimes miss and sometimes hit. Then it'd just get ugly..."
Umbia laughed, thinking back to when one of her sisters had actually started fighting back when a brother provoked her, and actually pinned the brother down thrice! Those were moments she enjoyed and was able to use against her brothers when they said boys were better than girls. Even if she herself wasn't the victor of the situation, it was enough to be proud of her sister in winning a small spar against a brother.
"But I didn't hit back," she said.
"I mean I know my brothers are trying to make me angry, but I don't mind. They go away after I ignore them. I don't really care about trying to fight with someone else... I mean, it's gotten boring now! There have been times when I've gotten mad...," she paused for dramatic effect, "And I mean REALLY mad. It takes a while for someone to pressure me to that point, though."
"What I really like to be is independent. You know, not have to be affected by everyone else so much, and to run around a cool watering hole and be the only person there and see everything by myself... But... It would help if I had one other friend there. They'd know how great I was by finding it for them!"
Umbia then put up a smile, proud and blissfully content with what she had just given as a description for herself.

Sorry for the delay guys~ had some work issues going on recently but back in the swing of things now.
I'll take a look through the entries today and see if we have any match ups! If there are some snakes that aren't matched up through this, I'll extend the contest but reveal the personalities so that they can be matched easier.
Hopefully that won't be the case, though!
Watch this space~

The Winners! Many apologies for the wait, everyone, and thank you all for entering! Without any further delay, I can announce the winners of the contest. Some things to note:1. Each of you will receive a PM with the full image (I will try to do this before I go away for the weekend, but if not, I'll ensure these get sent on Monday) 2. I'll post up for certs in the cert thread, so keep an eye out for when they are posted. 3. These were coloured by Safaia. ResultsSnake 1 This snake is certainly the laziest of the children of Panna and Itzcóatl. If it were possible, she would happily allow herself to be carried everywhere, waited on hand and foot. After all, isn't she too beautiful and important to waste precious energy on catching her own food and defending herself from harm? She would most certainly treat her bonded as a servant, relying on sweet-talking to get her way rather than threats. Snake 1 chooses: Soleil!Reason: This little snake was drawn to the impressive ancestry of little Soleil and found her views on 'looking pretty' and 'playing hard to get' extremely agreeable. This little snake fancies herself to be a princess and Soleil certainly seems to have the personality of one. This snake (Hinata) may be a high-maintenance companion, but she will most certainly help her bonded get what she wants out of life as well as herself. Snake 2 This male will become his bonded's partner in crime. He's looking for a friend as well as someone to aid, someone he can trust with his secrets and thoughts without fear of being laughed at. And this boy will have some random and amusing ideas in the future! Dependable and with an odd sense of humour, it will be vital for him to agree with the morals and way of life of his bonded and for his bonded - in return - to accept that this snake will become like a shadow to him or her. Snake 2 chooses: Umbria!Reason: It seems like Umbria needs a friend who will accompany her on all her escapades. Someone who will follow her and become her shadow. His odd sense of humour on said adventures will more than likely be an asset to Umbria. Attracted to her calm temperament, this snake will not be too intimidated to share his secrets with her. Snake 3 This immature male is a snake who will never grow up. Young at heart and always up for some mischief, his bonded will most likely find him/herself in some amusing (if not embarrassing situations). This snake will need someone with a sense of humour but also someone who is able to give the snake a bit of a nudge in the right direction to get him back on target. Snake 3 chooses: Moja!Reason: Moja needs someone to take care of, someone who won't mind being babied. This snake will be a child at heart even when he has grown, bringing Moja both joy and...frustration, perhaps? A sweet natured but mischievousness creature, the lioness will certainly have her work cut out trying to get him to focus. Snake 4 Not afraid of hard work, this serious little female tends to fly off the handle if things don't go her way. Catch her in a good mood and she'll be a pleasant enough girl, but if if someone upsets her or she fails in a task, be prepared to face a fierce little beast! Her bonded will have to put up with her mood-swings as well not be afraid of a bit of hard labour. Snake 4 chooses: Chaka!Reason: Both Chaka and this girl (Inina) have no fear of hard work and it's Chaka's dedication to his role within the pride that snatched Inina's interest. He's a lion she can respect and a lion she can see going far. Hopefully he won't mind a familiar who speaks her own mind. This little firecracker will certain to back him up (or fiercely disagree) when she feels he's steering off course. Winners Summarised!Snake 1 - Andranis Snake 2 - Ameh Snake 3 - Puhterodactyl Snake 4 - Ecavi
