A portal opened in the Abandoned Town, the flash of otherworldly light visible for quite some distance. The figure that stepped through was still grumbling to himself. Stupid foolish humans, turning their back on the only item that could actually keep them alive. Hopefully this new area would prove more promising.
Not that he was planning to wait here. The portal would have grabbed some attention. People would come to investigate. He would return then.
For now, he crouched down. One of his knives made several quick movements in the hard-packed dirt. After a moment's consideration he nodded. That would do.
He rose back to his feet. Another portal appeared, a flaring beacon of light as the hooded figure disappeared. Time for a nap before starting all over again.
On the ground, the drawn symbol of a pendant remained to say he had been here. And that he would be back.
Event here in approximately 12 hours. It is not the same game as last time. More details coming soon.
The hooded figure will reappear in approximately twelve hours from this post. He will explain the game. People are free to leave if they don't want to participate after hearing the details. There will be a limit to the number of people who can play, so official "signup" begins after that post.
If you will still be "traveling" in 12 hours but want to play, please PM me and advise how many hours you will still be waiting after that. We may be able to work something out if there is enough interest, or not much time left to wait.

[entering from Traveling (Lighthouse)]
She didn't register the houses at first-- maybe this is where the farmers lived, and the cornfield is behind them-- but as they went closer, she realized that they must have gone in the wrong direction entirely. The fog had been thick over the course of their entire journey, and there was no way to tell where was east. Somewhere along the way, they must have made a wrong turn.
The air reverberated with the creaking of a lone windmill, and all around were rows and rows of dilapidated houses. This was probably the abandoned town on the eastern end of the map.
Delta Six turned, disconcerted, to Twelve. "I don't think we're in the cornfields." She made a move to turn back, but found her arm pulled back-- their hands were still clasped, she remembered as she glanced down. And while her eyes were cast towards the ground, she noticed a symbol of a pendant drawn on the ground.
"Look at the ground. Maybe it means there are pendants here." As if on cue, her phone beeped. Only four days left to find a pendant. "...I think we should stay."

[ entering from Lighthouse Traveling thread ]
“Not in the cornfields, indeed,” remarked Twelve as he looked around at the crumbling houses. He frowned. Obviously, people used to inhabit this island, but where were they now? Had they been consumed by this thick fog, apparently dangerous enough that everyone was required to don gear that covered from head to toe? At least the town appeared to be abandoned, so perhaps random people would not assault them—assuming that other players or creatures did not enter and lurk in the shadows.
He did as Delta Six directed and he took in the carved image of a pendant. How many days were left to find a pendant? Once again, Twelve crane his neck to stare at the screen of Six’s cellphone. “Four days, huh?” He paused. “We’ll stay. For now.”

((Eta Three entering.))
With having spotted the bright light from far off it was hard to judge the distance but as he came back towards the town he hazarded a guess as to which direction he'd first spotted the light and soon two figures came into view. He walked a littler slower then, with more caution but as he walked up closer he noted the same garb as they all wore though accessorised with a colour he'd not seen before. He heard them whisper to one another and then looked around themselves. He didn't get too close but close enough to call out to them without making too much noise, 'Ho there.' He held up with hands showing he carried no weapon, of course his knife was tucked into his belt should things turn nasty but it was more a gesture than anything else. He walked calmly towards them.

The portal opened again, just as bright as before. If people hadn't seen the first beacon, this one would also grab their attention. The hooded figure emerged, knives in his hand and pendant around his neck. He eyed the three people waiting. It was a good thing his face was hidden - he was making some very interesting expressions under there. After a moment, he heaved a sigh. "Too few," he said. Maybe the humans weren't desperate enough for pendants yet. Perhaps they were still more scared of the island's mysterious figures than they were interested in winning. "Alright, you lot wait there while I set up. We'll see if anyone else comes along so we can actually start this." What did the figure need more people for? What was he setting up? The humans could only wait and watch. They were waiting in the entryway to the ruined school. It was actually scouting around that area that had given the figure the idea for his next game. The figure walked a ways into the school grounds. A giant rift in the earth lay in front of one of the buildings - a gaping chasm that might as well be bottomless for all anyone could tell by peering down into it. Neither the figure nor the humans had any idea how it came into being (perhaps the Horsemen could shed some light on the subject, but no one wanted to go ask them). "Might as well tell you we're playing for a pendant," the figure said. As if they couldn't guess from the one hanging around his neck. He reached up and slipped it off. After dangling it for a moment at the humans, he hid it somewhere beneath his cloak. Leaving out in plain sight might just encourage them to attack him, and he didn't need that happening again. "And your job will be to cross this," he gestured to the chasm. "Don't panic, I'm not done just yet." Across the chasm, several small floating islands appeared. They formed a winding path from this side to the other. The figure crossed his arms. "We'll get more into the rules once some more people show up." (( More players are needed! Waiting on official opening and rules til then. In the meantime, feel free to officially "sign up" by having your character decide [aloud or in their own head] to play the game. ))

[ Theta Two entering the thread from Traveling. ]
She hadn't gone far ahead, no, not at all. Only just far enough.
The abandoned town rose all around her, decrepit and filthy, like dying animals that had long since lost their pride. She was vaguely reminded of RE4, of shooting chickens and cows, wasting ammo on pendants strung through trees for the sake of congratulations, have an even bigger weapon you won't be able to fit into your inventory. It made her briefly wonder if she'd played it all the way through in her past life, or if she'd been lazy enough to sit and watch someone else play, cracking bad jokes when a zombie came on screen. The sandy shored left behind, she could only hear her own footsteps, and perhaps the ghosts of Kirk and Thyme from behind, but she was lost in her mind again, curiosity holding the bullet that killed the cat.
It wasn't until she stepped forward and saw others around that her heart began to tighten. Friends or foes? Was Bones among them? Just where had her feet taken her when she'd withdrawn all caution? And then there was brightness, a light, but it was not warm. Theta-two's breath caught and tangled in her throat however, when she saw just who'd emerged. She rushed forward to get closer, to single out the Reaper and attempt to figure out whether or not this was the same one from back then. The memories will still fresh in her mind like lashes, red and hot, burning.
Her heart surged when she heard the word playing again, though she'd barely caught onto the pendant hanging tight around his neck. Both a curse and a gift, huh? She thought grimly to herself. She remembered their last game, but as she drew closer, she could see that this was something entirely different. The chasm before them opened like the maw of a beat, ready to swallow her whole. It threaded exhilaration through her bones, a terrible high that she couldn't get rid of. But still she forced herself to put in the back of her mind, where it would not be heard. Straightening, she clicked her tongue, drawing in the breath she hadn't known she'd been holding. She glanced briefly to the other gas mask troopers, gave a slight nod of acknowledgement. She didn't chance talking yet. She didn't see Bones. Turning to the hooded figure, her lips pulled into a thin line. She'd found him and his games a lot faster this time. And this time, she was alone. Or at least, for now she was.
"So what game are we playing now?" She asked, by way of saying she was in. Caution had officially been damned. Wherever she was going, she was going somewhere, even if it meant chancing throwing herself in her grave sometimes soon. "I doubt its as easy as one-two-three, it never is."

[ Beta Five entering from traveling thread ]
Why do I get the feeling that I picked the wrong place to go?
Standing at the edge of the Abandoned Town, a few feet away from a small crowd of people, Beta Five squinted his eyes. He had come over after seeing a large glow, a flash of light, and then a figure had appeared; tall, cloaked, and...er, glowing too. Beta Five eyed him suspiciously, arms folded across his chest.
A game..? he thought, musing to himself. I could use that pendant...although I'm not entirely certain I want to cross that...er, rather big hole in the ground.
And big it was, stretching out far and wide right in front of one of the buildings. It was dark too, seemingly bottomless (at least from what Beta Five could tell), disappearing deep into the blackness. it was not nearly far enough to jump over, nor short enough to go around. There were the floating islands, yes, but they did not exactly look the safest; a conundrum through anybody's eyes.
Beta Five sighed. Then he said, somewhat reluctantly "All right. I'm in. What do we need to do?"

(Zeta Seven is entering from the beach traveling thread)
Zeta Seven wasn't that far behind Theta Two's pace, making no motion to catch up completely to the fair maiden, he was rather distracted by the view. Not the view of the town that was slowing rotting away into a pile of splinters and ash. This view was much more pleasing.
It reminded him of old time movies where people wore giant hats and walked about like their pants were too tight. they would just strut about and cuss and shoot at things. Kirk, as he was now called, had to wonder if he wasn't far off from being like one of them.
He still had the sense to watch the flash of light in the sky and in true horror movie fashion, move towards it rather than walk away from it. 101 ways to fail in a horror survival situation. But it was impossible to turn back now, He was here, Two was here and a few others to boot. Suit of various colors was strewn about the rickety looking buildings. Allies, enemies. Targets. "I think we wandered into another deadly adventure luv, get your game face on." he told his allies with a steely voice as he caught sight of the cloaked figure from before.
That pendant was just sitting there loosely on its neck, a reminder of what it told them not long ago. Rules. "Don't forget what we have seen and heard, our lives depend on it." Kirk told her in a harsh whisper as he loaded his gun and got ready for potential combat. This was a time for no hesitation, and no mercy. It was time for Kirk to play the game properly

[Zeta Six/Bones is entering from Beaming Down]
The group that had formed around him were far off now as Bones wandered in his thoughts into the fog. What lie there? Another Death Pony? A masked vigilante? He smiled. I bet Seven would have liked that joke. The thought was dim in his mind as the bright orange disks of his mask glared ahead, causing him to stop in his tracks.
"Play.." It was an echo in the fog, but the word churned his stomach none the less. Taking steps forward his eyes caught a glimpse of familiar colors and as he approached he couldn't help but allow his hidden self to smile in near relief. Seven and Two. They had survived. It was a relief from his mind and the weight had lifted from his shoulders. They were alive! He glanced to the cloaked figure, the dark thought after hanging in the air around him. But for how long?
Wandering near Theta Two and between Zeta Seven he cleared his throat. "Spock. Seven... or would you like to be Kirk?" He made a small laugh and looked at them both, near ready to clap them both on the back in his excitement. Anything to keep his mind from what horror he had truly walked into.
His eyes shifted unseen under his mask to the figure and then to the chasm below. "Dammit."
((I am not going to be home until 7PM-8PM, if there's an odd number of people or if that's going to be a problem to the game play please feel free to toss Zeta Six out of the game. Orz))

[ Zeta One entering from Beaming Down ]
If she was going to go out, she at least do it with some pride. Even if she had none. And then she saw the Reaper. And the chasm.
Oh joy. She might as well play, since she was there and all...
" Well then... I guess it's good I'm not scared of hights... I think..." she said, eyeing the chasm. She stuck close to Bones regardless. Perhaps she'd get a name too.
Though she kind of doubted it.

Twelve heard someone call out to them and he turned around. He grasped Delta Six’s hand even tighter. Instinctively, he took a step in front of Six in case the new arrival was a threat. His eyes zoned in on Eta Three, taking in the dark blue accents of his gear. It was fortunate that Eta Three had decided to raise his arms as a sign of peace. Twelve relaxed considerably. “Hello,” he answered with a casual half-nod.
A bright light flashing behind Twelve caused him to turn around. A hooded figure, brandishing knives that glowed eerily, slid out of an ethereal portal. At first he was unsure of what to make of the stranger, but then he noticed the necklace dangling around their neck. When the figure spot he seemed disappointed with the turn out. Dumbfounded, Twelve stared at the reaper. Was something supposed to be happen? Like a game? He kept a trained gaze on the reaper as it strode towards a chasm.
Twelve’s eyes were ready to bug out. His free hand tugged at Delta Six’s sleeve. “S-Six . . . how’d that chasm get there?” Even from where he stood he knew that it was incredibly deep, the depths drowning in unknown darkness. When he was told that they would have to cross the gaping hole he gawked at the reaper—not that anyone could see behind his mask—but calmed down when rocky islands bobbed across the chasm. The game was set up. All that was left was for more players to arrive, and Twelve would definitely stay.
Most of those that came he could not recognize, but at least he noticed the familiar light blue color of a Theta member.
“We need to cross the chasm,” answered Twelve as people began to inquire about the game, “but he hasn’t really explained anything else.” He nodded towards the hooded figure.

(( Eta II entering. ))
Eta II had followed Eta III's lead back to the Abandoned town. It seemed that they weren't the only people who caught a glimpse of that strange light from afar, a number had gathered around the area to see what that was. All in the same garb as him, except.....differently coloured. Eta II didn't have time to worry about the fact that there were squads and more competition, for he spotted a certain hooded figure whose outfit and general appearance suggested.....well, trouble.
Playing for a pendant. Damn. Eta II thought it was about time he started looking for those things, ever since the aftermath of the Crazy Horse incident. He however, felt a little uncomfortable with the fact that this meant his competition would now be.....Eta III. Perhaps we could sort this out later, he hoped, as he watched the reaper begin preparations for their ordeal.....

The hooded figure had finished setting up a while back. He'd taken to simply watching the humans, trying not to stare too long at any in particular. He couldn't have them thinking he had a vested interest in any of them... plus it might freak them out if he stared, and he didn't need people running away from the game.
Finally there were eight, and he thought he could work with that. He moved towards the group and spoke up.
"Alright, I'll explain the game while we see if any late-comers limp over," he announced. "It's very simple." And yet not. "You start here. I will be on the other side with the pendant. Make it across, if you want the pendant."
Was it really that easy? Of course not.
"Some islands are close enough to easily jump across. Others... are a bit riskier to leap for. Though they might give you a nice shortcut, if you make it."
He jerked a knife over his shoulder at the islands. "Each island is large enough to safely hold two people. More might fit... might not. It's pretty easy to fall... especially if someone, hmm, gave you a helping hand along?" he suggested. Not that he endorsed violence or killing, oh no. But this was a game and there was only one pendant. And in the end, there could only be thirteen alive on the final day. People were going to die regardless.
"Oh, don't look so worried!" he scolded the group. "I'll be keeping an eye on you. Maybe I'll even throw you a useful hint or two along the way."
How very reassuring. Or not.
RULES: - This is a turn-based game. You post in order, one by one, until it is the hooded figure's post. GM actions or information may be forthcoming, then normal post order resumes. - You have one action per post. You can use this to move, to push someone else, or even choose to remain where you are. - Roll one six-sided dice to move. - To push someone, roll one six-sided dice. If it is odds, the push if successful, evens are a miss. - Paths marked with a "-->" are a risky shortcut. If you chose to take one, make a second post and roll one ten sided dice. If you roll a one or a ten, you fall. Otherwise, continue on. (Ie. If you roll a six and the shortcut is on island #3, you can choose to take the shortcut - make a second post with the roll and RP out the consequences. Either you fall, or you still have x number of moves left from your initial roll.) - You cannot go backwards under any circumstances. Even if you take a shortcut, you must continue onwards from where the shortcut leaves you - you cannot back up a few spaces for a second shortcut. - If you are the third or fourth person to land on an island... wait for a GM prompt. - - > This can be ignored if the new person deliberately aims to knock someone off. In that case, immediately make a second post. Roll one six-sided dice. If it is one or six, the push is successful, other numbers mean the fourth person falls. - If you fall, you are out of the game. You may or may not actually be dead - please count it as 'unconscious' and do not move to the Death Thread just yet. - Rules may be adjusted during the GMs turn. - Any questions, please PM or add in brackets to your post - please do not make a new or out-of-turn post. - The only time limit is 24 hours. If you haven't taken your turn within 24 hours of the GM 'start of new round', you will automatically 'fall' off your island.

[ Zeta 9 entering from Beaming Down ]
They had been right in linking that dark feeling to the hooded figures, as here in front of them stood one, along with a pendant and a rather nasty looking chasm. Eugh, she better not be afraid of heights.
Nine decided that she simply couldnt be bothered to mess around anymore. Lets go for it. A pendant would be nice, and to be honest she didnt really seem to care about dying anymore. Or, so she told herself. This place was too full of danger to even think about coming out unscathed.
[ once again if this is gunna require answers in 8 hours or less and the game is going to last more than 24 hours, feel free to boot me out. I can make a first deadline, just possibly not all deadlines in 24 hours o no ]
