The field trip had sucked. So much. She'd heard the things about the other one and still wanted to learn more about it. This one sounded so much worse than it. Luckily no one had died though. Or died again. Holly knew that she couldn't have been dead because she'd remembered things, people. She was now back at her room trying to forget it, most of it. Did not want to forget the friend she had made. A few of her boat mates had been nice, that dog guy had been fine, Savior was just odd but had remembered her name (a feat she'd learned later) and West was, West. Now Holly was doing work among other things.

That's when it happened. One moment she was writing the next her pencil and paper looked a whole lot bigger. Candlejack. Really? Holly looked to her side and saw it. Tali, her bakeneko, had made off with her pin and right out through a wall. It had to do that now? She sighed, as good as a fox could, and made off after it outside.

Now outside Tali was no where to be seen. No where. Now Holly was outside, stuck as a fox, how couldn't talk and needed to find her pin. Great. There was also no one around right now and few knew that she really looked like this.

Could the day get any better?

The trip to that weird island might have culminated in megasuck, but overall, West had more exciting remembrances of it than bad ones. First off, there had been the boats. Never having been on one before for more than five minutes at a time, West could never have predicted the sheer amount of fun he would have on R.A.G.E. The tentacle hickey part hadn't been that great, but the majority of them had faded by now, leaving memories of shooting harpoons and hacking through bloody squid legs in their wake. Why weren't non-reapers allowed weapons on campus again?

The island itself had been another story altogether, but not necessarily a bad one. Sure, there had been days of walking without rest, food or water, odd attack-reapers, friends falling down holes, hallucinations and teachers, but there had also been, well, there hadn't actually been as much fighting as he would have liked. All right, maybe the island had sucked after all.

Still, the wrath demon currently found himself in a chipper mood he hadn't been able to shake for at least thirty-four and two-thirds hours now. That had been the moment West had been set free. He hadn't slept since then, and he was perilously close to looking for someone to kick out of boredom when he saw it. Some random fox was wandering around nearby. No one would care if he kicked a fox, at least not anyone who mat... well, Holly might. Holly mattered. Wait. Was that fox Holly? It kind of looked fairly ghostish now that he thought about it. Ghostish and slightly constipated. Yeah, it was probably her.

"Holly," West said in a voice that was louder than average but far from shouting, "Issat you?" He jogged over to the creature, grinning down at her as he came to a stop. "It's gotta be, c'mon. Gettup'ere so I can tellya 'bout..." No, he supposed he wasn't going to tell her about repaying his mark because that would require revealing he had one in the first place. "...so we can... I dunno."

Wait, there? Holly thought she saw a bit of Tali's tail wisp away behind a building across the way from her. Sprinting towards it she heard something. Her name? For just a moment she stopped and looked to her side. West? She turned to look and the minipet was gone. Candlejack. Why'd he have to go and call her name? Maybe he could be of some help at least. She sighed, as best a fox could at least and looked up at him when he stopped near her. Her head bobbed up and down in response to her identity. At least he was thinking it was indeed her.

Her head cocked to the side and her ears straightened out for a moment. Tell her about what? She'd try and remember to ask about that later. For now she had more pressing matters like getting that pin back.

Speaking of her pin ... Tali seemed to be wanting to play keep away. The minipet stuck it's head out from behind that building to taunt her. Holly ran in a circle, then just a few steps towards the minipet (to not scare it off), then back to West. Maybe he'd see Tali or at least guess the fact her pin was gone.

Good. West caught the bobbing of the fox's head, an acknowledgement that this was indeed the ghost he had thought it was. But why wasn't she changing into a form that could talk? Was this some sort of weird game ghosts with animal forms liked to partake in? "Quit playin', Holly, I dun'ave time..." Hrm. No. West supposed he had all the time in the world. What was she looking at? The boil peered off in the direction Holly seemed to be scampering, catching a glimpse of wide eyes and a menacing grin. Minipet. West had never met Tali before, but there was no reason why his hatred of all of the tiny animals that resided on campus couldn't extend to the bakeneko.

"Did that thing take somethin'of y... peh." Even if Holly could answer, it didn't seem like she was inclined to at the moment. West supposed that didn't matter. "We goin'? Lead th'way." He held back for a second, remembering the hellhunter debacle. Minipets were kind of skittish and he didn't want to frighten the thing into running away until it was cornered.

Quit playing? Was she the type to mess around with someone. Wait. Yes she was and more likely to do so to West. Luckily she wasn't able to say that out loud. At that she almost bit him. Instead she snarled at him impatiently. Neither did Holly believe he had something else to do. He saw it though. Thank Jack he saw what she was looking at. The ghoul knew he disliked minipets so he'd be a great one to help with getting the pin back.

She nodded again. Of course it took something of hers. Why else would she be chasing it. Holly sighed. Won't West know about ghosts and monsters needing pins? Oh well, he was here and seemed to want to help her.

How to catch it? First off she'd lost sight of it, have to find it first. Holly looked West in the eye, motioned with her head toward where Tali had been, then took off after the pet. Hopefully he'd follow. She'd figure what to do once the pet was found again at least.

"Yeah, right." He could easily deduce what a snarl coupled with an impatient jerk of her head meant and began to trail after Holly without further comment, keeping up his "ambushing small animals" gait while he did so. He still wasn't entirely sure why she was choosing to remain foxy, but he had come to the conclusion that she was unable to become person-shaped at the moment, which was at least a start. She seemed a bit too miffed to be remaining mute by choice. He wondered if she could talk to other foxes? Something to ask when she could form sentences without scratching them in the dirt.

It didn't take him much longer after that to have a sort of natural-form-related epiphany. He recalled the unusual number of animals running around Christmas Town and something about malfunctioning pins and... oh. It had something of hers. Right. "'t's got yer pin," he muttered under his breath, lightly touching his own which was currently clipped to his belt. He didn't technically need to wear the thing when it wasn't required since he stayed the same with or without it, he just happened to think his was pretty cool.

Holly ran around the side of the building. Darn minipet was already making it's way around other other side. She looked back really quick, yep West did decide to follow her. The ghoul reminded herself to tell him later that she couldn't talk in that form. He looked kind of pissed, which was normal, but she did wish she could talk like this. She sighed from frustration and Tali rounded the other corner of the building.

Ah, seemed West finally remembered some of them needed pins. He was lucky to be like that all the time. Pins were inconvenient. Holly followed after the minipet. This was going no where. Tali was fast and could run through things like her. The ghoul ran around the corner of the building. Tali was standing halfway down the building. The minipet grinned tauntingly.

This was getting them no where. Maybe they could corner it? Hmmm, that could work, maybe. Holly stopped and waited for West to catch up. Luckily they were standing in a patch of dirt. The ghoul drew a square the dirt, looked up at West than back at the square and a little x which represented Tali. She hoped he look at it as she started to motion. Holly pointed to West and than Tali. She then motioned to herself and then around the building she drew. The ghoul hoped he understood that she wanted to go around from the other side as he approached it from this direction.

What was with minipets and stealing? Maybe when this little adventure was over he would propose a "Down with the Pet Menace" club to the student council.

West caught a glimpse of the bakeneko as he rounded the first corner, but she was soon scampering on, Holly close behind. He hurried forward again and was surprised to see Tali just sitting there smiling when he reached the other side of the building.

"Whatthe..." he said under his breath, looking down at the fox ghoul as she began to scratch out something in the dirt. West watched as she outlined the plan, glancing between Tali and Holly as they were gestured to. He smirked. Never in his wildest dreams did he think he would ever be taking direction from a fox. He tried to school his expression into a more serious one, but it only half worked. At least he understood what she was trying to tell him.

"I'll jusstand'ere fer a few minutes while you run 'round back," he confirmed. "Then..." He smacked his fist lightly into the palm of his opposite hand. Beatings, perhaps?

Thank Jack he understood her and reiterated it too so she knew he did. Holly looked back up him and saw the amused expression. Couldn't he be a little serious? She sighed but then grinned at the motions he made with his hands. At this point she didn't care if anything happened to Tali, the minipet could handle herself.

Holly nodded and ran around the building. Luckily it wasn't too big and appeared on the other side of it. She saw West waiting on the other side and Tali was still there grinning. She nodded to him and started to approach the minipet slowing. Said minipet was still looking at West and had yet to see her so Holly kept up her slow approach.

As Holly took off around the side of the building, West turned away slightly, appearing to look off into the trees while keeping his peripheral vision on Tali. Nonchalant. Unconcerned. Perhaps the animal didn't need to be treated to this level of deception, but maybe it was smarter than it looked. It didn't take long for the ghost ghoul to return, and when she did, the demon turned to face the creature once more. If Holly spooked it, maybe he could catch it? Or should he be the one doing the frightening? West shrugged slightly at the ghoul in a silent 'what's next,' trying not to alert Tali to her presence.

Tali hadn't seem to care that ti's owner disappeared at all and kept her eye on West. Holly saw West nod towards her and since he didn't seem to be running about she'd go after the minipet. The ghoul ran towards Tali. Halfway there the unthinkable happened. Snap! Holly stepped on a branch. Tali turned to look at the ghoul, spooked and started to run towards the tree. She ran after the minipet, jack it this sucked!
PostPosted: Mon Apr 18, 2011 7:46 pm

Well, crap. West took a couple of quick steps toward Tali as she took off and even managed to swipe at her, but the combination of the animal's lack of solidness and the boil's lack of quickness resulted in a big handful of nothing. He growled a frustrated growl and continued forward, always a few steps behind Holly and her pet, until... the tree.

He was not climbing a tree.

Tali went straight for the tree. It seemed to disappear almost completely and re-appeared 15 feet up in the tree. Tail wagging back and worth as it grinned down at the boil and ghoul.

Holly followed and stopped at the base of the tree. Jack it. Foxes weren't really know of climbing skills at all. At this point she couldn't even reach a branch at her normal height. Waiting for West to catch up she turned and looked at him. She looked back at the tree, then West, then the tree and back at him. The ghoul hoped to send a 'you best go up there and get it' look.

"No."

West looked at Holly. He looked at Tali. He glared at the tree. A muffled growl rose in his throat and he closed his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose between his fingers. He would have almost preferred to be locked in that strange tunnel they had found, chasing that stupid whip-stealing hellhunter than out here about to climb a tree.

"Tha'snot gonna do anythin'," he muttered, looking up at Tali again. "It's just gonna..." He sighed. Well now he looked like some sort of whining pansy. But really, if they couldn't catch the thing on the ground, what hope did he have of doing so in a tree? Clearly his reluctance had nothing to do with his sub-par climbing skills.

"Fine." He continued muttering nonsensical things about spastic fox paws and minipet-skin hats as he approached the trunk, then gingerly grabbed the stupid thing, propped a foot against it and pushed off of the ground with the other. It appeared to be going well for a short while as the boil moved a hand, then another hand, then a foot higher up the trunk, but today's choice of footwear was far from appropriate for climbing trees, plus there was the fact that he happened to suck at it. Just when it began to look like this climb would be incident-free, West's foot slipped and he slammed his knee awkwardly into the bark in front of him. He tried to fling both arms and, for some reason, his tail around the trunk, but it was too late. Taking one final swipe at Tali, West fell to the ground, shouting a delightfully obscene string of insults at the animal as he landed.

Holly stared at him. No? How dare he! She'd wasted precious time to find that jack-forsaken whip before. Even made sure he made it out alive while she could have just phased through a wall and left him there. She nudged his foot and motioned to the tree again.

The fox ghoul sighed and looked off into the distance. Maybe looking sad would help? None of this was hit fault but how was she to manage climbing a tree when she wasn't built to do so? West had hands at least and thumbs. You never realized how cool they were until they were gone.

She nodded and cocked her head sideways. He was going to climb, good. Her small ears could hear some of the muttered and she chuckled (if foxes could even do it). West had seemed to make progress. Holly smiled when he fell. Not because he fell but it was amusing. Though a good thing did happen. She ran in a quick circle from happiness. When his knee had hit the tree, Tali lost her grip and the pin had fallen to the ground!

Tali was upset. The pesky owner and the boil were closer to the pin and Tali didn't want to bother. Having lost interest it left, disappearing into the tree.

Holly ran over and grabbed the pin. After an amazing transformation she was humanoid again. "That was annoying." She offered a hand to West to help him up. "Thanks for helping." What little help he was. Holly than proceeded to hit him square in the arm. "That's for forgetting about pins!" It was then she realized something. Holly looked down and remembered what she'd been doing in her room earlier. She had been trying clothing on from another ghoul and was wearing something like this. The ghoul flushed and turned away from West. No other student had seen her in anything but the pajamas. "Uh, thanks again. You can leave now if you want." She silently hoped he wouldn't make fun of her clothes.
