Unlike her cousin Zalika, Tizi wasn't a brash and bossy princess. The thought of some day replacing her formidable mother was not exciting. Instead, the weight of her future responsibilities had made her a serious and solemn pup. Where her cousins had bickered and fought, always striving to be the strongest and best, Tizi had simply studied hard and observed.
She was almost an adult now, though. She couldn't sit at home and watch what her mother did. Reluctantly, Tizi had decided to go out on her own today. She felt a bit nervous being at the far edge of the pack's territory, but what kind of queen would she be if she was afraid to leave home? Her mother would never be afraid to roam, and would never back down from a fight, not even if a rogue lion attacked her. Tizi didn't have Dikeledi's wild recklessness, but she wasn't about to run back home just because she was afraid to be alone. That wasn't very queenly.
Tizi stalked the border grimly, not very happy about being here but not willing to run home yet either. The other females patrolled. She would too. And if someone bigger and more frightening than herself showed up, well ... Tizi would just have to hope an older hyena was close enough to help.

Liekko was feeling mopey and distinctly sorry for himself. He had seen noone to pester for the last two days, just a high-flying hawk who hadn't even glanced down at him. It made he sulky and, though he'd hate to admit it to even himself privately, it made him lonely. Not only was life dull without others to fool, it was also hard to find a reason to be. That was deep thinking for the hyena, and not anything he was comfortable doing. Look what he'd come to, in his loneliness! THINKING!
He also was hungry, having only managed to catch a mouse in those two days. It was time for food, if he could just find some! Luck was with him, for he caught the scent of rabbit not long after. Food! He set off like a shot after the trail, and soon was hot on the trail of a hare caught too far from its home. It was fast, but Liekko was determined.
Not long after, he was trotting along happily with his dead dinner swinging from his jaws. Now to find a nice secluded place to eat.... but wait. Was his luck truly with him again? Why, was that... was that a girl up ahead? His fur bristled with excitement. Company! Someone with a mind to mess with! His hunger nearly completely forgotten, he broke into a lope, heading for the little female of his own species. The entire time he ran, his mind formulated a rather complicated and involved plan for this tasty little morsel. He was tired of being alone, and wasn't likely to do anything too abstract this time to chase her off. It'd take careful phrasing though so as not to reveal this to her!
In his usual, startling style, he ran directly up to her, not giving her time to react or avoid him. Once before her, though, he came to a screeching halt and bowed elegantly. Careful to culture his voice to sound more intellectual, he rose from the bow and set down the rabbit. "Beautiful lady, I know you not, but please accept this gift from an admiring stranger." He nosed the rabbit towards her and took one large step back before bowing once more.

Tizi hadn't been expecting company. When the strange hyena ran up to her, she first thought that it was someone from the clan. But she had never seen the male before. It was possible that he was a new member, maybe someone's consort or relative, but ... the adolescent drew herself up, her eyes widening in alarm. She wasn't supposed to be afraid of some strange male, but she couldn't help feeling wary. She had never met a stranger before, never!
Her nerves calmed slightly when he made that elegant bow. If he was a stranger to the clan, at least he was a stranger with manners. "Thank you," Tizi said hesitantly, looking down at the rabbit. No one had ever flattered or courted her before. It was ... nice. "Who are you?" She blurted, not really knowing how to respond to the male's pretty words. Her cheeks heated a bit, embarrassed at responding with such a blunt question.

Ah, good! Just as he preferred his companions... surprised and off-balance! Still, it was also pleasant to be greeted as sweetly by the pretty little thing. Perhaps this little charade could be longer than his normal stint of pretending. It just might be beneficial in a number of ways. He mentally prepared himself for a much longer period of time living his lies. It wasn't that he minded or needed any steeling for it, but rather it took more energy to stick with a facade once he picked it up. That was part of why he often dropped it to switch to something new and unexpected randomly in the middle of a conversation. He merely tired of keeping things predictable. But this... this might just be worth the effort, especially having gone so long without some sort of interaction.
"Cherazo the third at your service, my lady," he said, bowing once more. "One of four heirs to the great pack Garashti," he added for further dramatics. He paused to give her a brilliant smile, careful to keep his tone smooth and flattering. "I shall have to be sure to not let my brothers catch sight of you, or they might grow jealous." He lowered his lashes in a smoky, longing look at the young female. "Unless, of course....," he let his voice trail off vaguely, suggesting that he had a thought, a desire, but hesitated to speak it.

By now, Tizi's mother would have been fuming and roaring, like a dragon in hyena's skin. Tizi had always been calmer and quieter, much more subdued than her tyrant of a mother. She listened to Cherazo's strange words with interest, feeling mild surprise rather than an explosion of wrath at his story. Tizi had never heard of male heirs to a pack. Maybe this poor Garashti, whoever she was, had only borne sons. What terrible luck for a queen. Tizi felt the corners of her mouth turn down briefly in sympathy.
"Poor Garashti," Tizi said with feeling. "I hope that you and your brothers find strong mates to make your clan proud." That explained why Cherazo was out wandering. He must be looking for a mate to bring back home, to take over leadership of his clan.

Time to shift gears! Even if he stayed in character, it didn't mean he had to be predictable. "Ah, but my beauty, that is for the future. What of the here... and now?" He leaned close and slowly inhaled her scent, eyes drifting half closed as if she smelled of the most heavenly scent he'd experienced. "Time enough for duties and marriages of state, don't you think?" He tipped his head and stepped closer, though to one side. He took another step, moving as if to go past her, but letting their shoulders brush lightly.
The more he thought about it, the more he had a goal in mind. He might be slightly mad, and enjoy taunting others, but even he needed a female's company from time to time. This sweet little thing was enticing in the extreme, both in innocence and prettiness, though he'd never call her a beauty. The fact that he'd never call any female a beauty was beside the point. This young thing, properly manipulated, could definitely provide the right kind of entertaining dalliance he sought.
He took another quick couple of steps and swung his tail to curl about her chest, letting it slide slowly around her as he trotted around behind and then back beside her on the other side. "May I know your name, most beautiful of our kind?" he murmured almost directly into her ear, keeping his voice smooth and enticing. "I would wish to put a title to the heaven that stands beside me." He nosed her gently before suddenly stepping away again, putting an empty space between them where once he had been close enough to feel her warmth, and she his.
