The fight between the lion and lioness had not lasted very long. Cleary the male who called himself Nafasi was much stronger than Ru. Within a few minutes, the white lion had managed to force the female to the ground, a bite wound plaguing her shoulder and neck. A few shallow claw marks raced down her back and hips, and some even caressed her cheek. All had rivets of the precious dark red liquid streaming down them, staining the once white and blue fur.
But he hadn’t gone without his own battle wounds either. Ru had managed to swipe a claw across the male’s face before attempting to flee, leaving three oozing red marks right over his left eye. However, this had only managed to tick off the large white lion even more. The fire in his bright blue eyes burning with even more anger as he stood over the fallen female, a sneer ever present on his maw.
“So, dear girlie,” his shadow loomed right over Rukopa’s fallen body. Her eyes opened somewhat, a glazed view trying to focus on Nafasi, “Ready to die?” Enough talk, Nafi. Do the deed already. I am starving! The voice purred in his head.
Ru shut her eyes, bracing herself. Sorry, Kaym… she thought. She was stupid to go off in unfamiliar territory alone; she knew she should’ve waited.

Kaym'itan had waited for Ru at the waterfall as his patrol had come to an end. They had planned to go for a swim, then a hunt, Toruk and Rajanya had agreed the Night Scout could use a few days to rest. They also knew he had plans to ask Ru to become his mate.
But now she was late, far to late, and he had begun to worry. As he paced back and forth along the water, a soft tickle brushed his ear, and another his nose. Lifting his shaggy head he looked up and saw the atokirina floating toward the Pride border.
Growling, he took off in a powerful run, his paws flying across the large branches as silent as a ghost, following the seeds and his heart. He did not know how long it took him, for the run to the border was far, but it seemed that only in moments he was looking down at his yawne and the male that seemed about to kill her.
Silently, deadly, he lept, claws extended, using his body weight and gravity to pull the white lion away from Ru. Claws found purchase in muscle, teeth in the fur of his neck, as Kaym'itan growled, the sound ugly and deadly.

Naaaaffiii. Look, a stranger approaches, the voice spoke as the pure white lion glared at the dark blue male approaching quickly. Forget this wench. his mind growled at him as Nafasi quickly unsheathed his claws for another battle.
In that brief moment, it was as if Ru’s life flashed before her eyes; a light touch against the cheek that bore no markings. She opened her eyes as an atokirina wispily landed on her, before taking flight once more. A low growl was uttered in the depths of her throat, but it was droned out by an angry sound that she had not heard before in the Iknimaya lands.
Though Nafasi thought he was a match for the male in built (perhaps Nafasi was just a bit smaller in stature, but stockier in size), he wasn’t expecting such ferociousness for a first attack. Usually he was the one that made the first attack, causing the victim to be on the ground within moments; he had just pulled that with this lioness now.
“Arrgh,” Nafasi growled, craning his neck as he attempted to get the lion off him. “Get offa me!” Nafasi roared, bucking and snapping.
Kaym’itan was successfully getting Nafasi away from Ru. An effort trying to get off the ground, Ru weakly watched helplessly, her view showing just blurry figures of blue and white. “K..kaym…” she called out feebly. “Be…C…caref…ful…” her head droop to the ground, vision swimming in and out of blackness.

Kaym'itan raked his back claws along both flanks of the white lion, pleased when he felt the fur and muscle give. He knew he could not hold on for long with the other bucking, so he let the enemy's motion propel him forward, landing smoothly between him and Ru, his crimson eyes smoldering with a feral fury.
He growled again, low and menacing, his concentration solely on the interloper. He could smell the metallic scent of blood, knew it was Ru's, but he could not risk checking on her. Right now his only concern was the bleeding lion in front of him, and killing him if he could.
Head lowered, ears back, he waited his weight on the balls of his feet. The Night Scout held himself easily, a veteran of many fights, all to the death. His dark hide was marked with the scars, hidden within the midnight of his fur, but they were there to attest to his skill in battle.
Kaym'itan was not the gruff teacher, or gentle friend Ru had come to know over the many moons spent with him, no this lion here was a stranger to her. He was calm, ready, and very dangerous.

You better not try again, Nafi… the voice seethed, feeling the warm, wetness dripping from newly bestowed wounds from this male. As much as I would love for you to rip his throat out, there is something different about him…we haven’t battled this kind of enemy before. The voice sneered, itself wanting to glare the male to death. For once, Nafasi had agreed with the voice, himself glaring at the male. “You can have her,” he growled, backing away from the lion slowly, turning around. He didn’t care if the lion went for the attack again; if he did, Nafasi would go for a kill just like he was sure the other male would. “She’s broken anyways.” His heavy paws hit the ground as he trudged off defeated for once. Now he had to go find someone else to take his anger out on.
Fuzzy visions watched as white shaded figure fled the area, leaving the angry blue male left behind. Her thoughts were unclear. The guttered growls that came from the male was something she had never heard from Kaym before. Maybe this lion wasn’t him…She couldn’t clearly focus on the male; but she knew that whoever he was, he was a friend. He just saved her life.

Kaym'itan waited until he was sure the white lion had truly fled, though his heart screamed to turn around and tend to Ru, but he couldn't risk turning his back if the other male circled round. He waited, body tensed, one minute, two minutes...three...they were the longest seconds of his life.
Once he was sure they were safe, he went immediately to Ru's side, his nose nuzzling her ear gently, crimson eyes scanning the damage. Her white fur was stained red, there was so much blood, to much. The worst seemed to be at the apex of her shoulder and neck, he had to stop the bleeding.
" Hold on Yawne, I need to stop the bleeding. You must keep your eyes open for me. Do not fall asleep, you must keep your eyes open."
Kaym'itan's crimson eyes swept the jungle's heavy growth for a tawtsngal. He could use the plants steam and broad leaves to staunch the blood flow, and the water inside would heal and restore some of Ru's strength. Tawtsngal

The lion, the one that she had seen before yet had not seen before, was now standing above her. Those familiar crimson eyes lingered into her focus as the voice entered her murky mind. “I’m…tired,” the blood loss was causing her to get sleepy. She lifted her head off the ground, “I…can try…” Ru’s voice slurred, trying to watch the blue lion’s figure. “Kaym has pretty red eyes,” she said quietly, her clouded vision seeing those bright red eyes as clear as day.
The white lioness peered at her shoulder wound. Red…just like Kaym’s eyes. She lowered her head to the ground, “soverytired…” she murmured again. Instead of feeling scared, she was more comforted by the fact that he was he with her. Ru's eyelids drifted downwards, but still remained just slightly open. She was trying so hard to do what Kaym was saying.

Kaym'itan bit her ear lightly, " Stay awake Ru, don't you dare leave me yawne, not now, not after I have just found you." The large male managed to get his shoulder under her, and lift her half up onto his back.
" You have to help me eveng, you have to get onto my back. It just a little way to the waterfall. Keep talking to me, tell me who that was. What happened." His gruff voice was calm, gentle, but the thread of worry was still laced into it. He needed a healer, but they would never make it back to Home Tree on time.
He'd have to stop the bleeding on his own, get some of the water from the tawtsngalcone into her. It helped heal, would keep her from slipping into darkness, but not if he didn't get her to the waterfall first.

“Ouch,” she murmured, weakly sliding her head away from the offending mouth. “I’m…up,” her words slurred, not able to turn her gaze to the male. “I… “ a pause infiltrated her words. The silence would seem as if she had become unconscious, but the reality was that she was just looking for the right na’vi word to speak in. “pänu…*”
A small gasp was let out as she was lifted onto the male’s back. “Dunno…” she said quietly, tiredly. “Thought…he needed shade…white p..pelt burns in the sun easily…” her voice was slow, trying to ignore the little bounces from Kaym’itan’s movements. “Thought…I was just helping…” a tinge of sadness remained in the tone. Never had one someone take her generosity and turn it against her. Never again would she dare to travel near or into the roguelands, regardless if someone was accompanying her or not.
“He…called himself… Na…faseee” wince.
"Brother.... Kaym..." she whispered, her head trying to nuzzle into his warm mane.

Kaym'itan moved as swiftly as he dared through the thick undergrowth of the jungle, thankful it was daylight. Though he preferred the night, he was not sure he could have moved so quickly with Ru perched precariously on his back.
" I'll kill him..." Kaym'itan growled under his breath, knowing the truth in his words, he would hunt the white lion down and take his pelt for a prize. If Ru died...he stopped the thought, he couldn't think that way...not now.
He saw the waterfall ahead, his crimson eyes scanning the branches for a safe hollow to lay her in, far enough off the ground to keep predators away. Spying one, he climbed up to it, and laid her down gently.
" Hush now Sister..." he whispered to her, nuzzling her ear, " you are safe Ru. I am here and will not leave your side." Standing on his hind legs he grabbed one of the tawtsngal plants with his teeth, and pulled it out of the tree.
Tearing it into strips, he began to pack her wound, praying to Eywa that he could stop the bleeding.
Great Mother....please, hear your son...please spare the life of this one. I beg of you Great Mother...she is my balance...my atokirina...I can not lose her...

There was a strange feeling on her open wounds. It wasn’t burning or hurtful in anyway, but more like a tingling sensation just like when your foot is asleep without the sudden sharpness of waking it up. The pain from her shoulder and neck had begun to ebb away slowly. Although it did not completely disappear, it allowed Ru to think more clearly, though still weak from her blood loss.
She closed her eyes slowly, letting out a small sigh, shifting herself on the ground. Her eyes reopened, a small smile present on her maw as the darker lion stayed next to her. A purr rumbled quietly, drowned by the sounds of the splashes of the waterfall.
“You promise?” she purred quietly. “You… promise you’ll never leave?”

The Night Scout stopped what he was doing, and gently nuzzled her ear, his breath warm as he laid his neck over her's, " I will never leave you Ru. This I promise, you are my very life my yawne."
He closed his crimson eyes and just held her for several long moments, breathing in her scent, needing to know she was there with him. After a time, he gently licked her cheek, " Yawne, can you drink from this? You need to finish all of it, it tastes bitter, but I want you to swallow every last drop."
Kaym'itan nose the stalk of the tawtsngaltoward her, and the precious liquid inside.

“Good.”
She was pleased with his answer. The purr never ceased as time went on; the bleeding had stopped, but to wounds still were quite angry underneath the strips of the tawtsngal. The almost-silence was broken by a lick to her cheek, and Kaym’itan’s words ringing through the ear.
Her eyes were fixed on the strange plant in front of her, the liquid inside she could only assume was either something to help heal, or something to make her a little stronger so both could travel back to Home Tree without causing too much of a scene. An unconscious lioness of the back of the dark hued male would certainly bring up questions, but she was sure walking back with the wounds would just stir less of them.
A small sniff hung in the air; the liquid was odorless, so how bad could it be. Rukopa gave him a small nod, just taking a small sip from the plant. Her eyes widened immediately, the taste horrific as it stayed on her tongue. She resisted the urge to spit it out, holding it until she got the nerve to swallow completely. Sputtering, blue eyes looked pleadingly at Kaym’itan. “All…of it?”
Go figure this was her luck. Without another moment to spare, she downed the liquid in a gulp, the lingering of taste still present in her maw.
She sighed, pushing the now liquid less plant away from her, just waiting for the day to be over. The white lioness was shifting herself on the ground, wanting to push herself up to sit.
“Nga yawne lu oer.” Both Eytucan and Zelt’sin had whispered those words to their cubs when they would visit them, and other couples would say those words a loud to their mates. Although today hadn’t gone exactly to plan, Ru wanted to finally express her feelings for the male.

Kaym'itan felt his heart soar with the words so gently whispered from his beloved, though there was some sadness that it had come at so great a cost.
Nuzzling her again, his touch tender, the Night Scout brushed a soft lick over her, " You are very brave my heart, not only to have fought off that Swirä, but to have drunk all that I gave you of that vile liquid."
Kaym'itan tossed the stem away, and lay down so that he could pull her into the curve of his body, shielding her from the jungle with his warm bulk, the tree at her back keeping her safe.
" Now rest, and tomorrow we will travel slowly to Home Tree. Where you will see a Healer without argument and you and I will take our vows in front of the Tree of Voices."
He laid a paw on her shoulder, tucking her under his chin and watching the undergrowth below them, crimson eyes alert for any more danger.

As he lay next to her, a new wave of tiredness had swept over the female. She nodded tiredly, not going to argue about going to a healer with him about going to a healer, seeing as she obviously needed one. Even her heart gave a small flutter, the nerves just beginning as he spoke of the vows in front of the Tree of Voices. After tomorrow, the two would be able to spend the rest of their lives together; perhaps too, they would be able to start a family.
The warmth of his body next to her had lulled the female into a small slumber, but not before cuddling into the part Kaym’s mane right under his chin.
Though she had a nightmare of a day, her sleep would not be plagued with such visions. Not today.
