Kaneon carefully was putting the last touches on his latest order. He deftly knotted the cord that bound the feathers to the rings. They were such a lovely blue! After the knot was tied, he took a moment to stroke them gently. He'd have to remember the spot he'd picked them up and return during molting season. Their muted but rich tones suited quite a few of the People. With a sigh he set the last of the set aside. Time to package them up and take them to his Brother.

In a large, flexible leaf he gently piled the bracelet, rings, and necklace, curling them so they would not tangle. With great care he foled the leaf, wrapping the jewelry and then turning the leaf back on itself in a clever way that held the packet closed. He preferred to take what he was commissioned for in this way, due to the fact that often the bits of pretty things were meant for someone else, and he didn't want to spoil any surprises.

Thus prepared, he raised his large head to peer towards the sun. It was setting, but not yet down. He'd have plenty of time to find his way to Kaym'itan's hammock before the other male became occupied with something else. Packet held gently in his mouth, he set off nimbly along the tree's massive branches.

With a huff and a half moan, Kaym'itan flipped out of his hammock, his scarlet eyes blinking with sleep. Eywa above he should KNOW better then to go with Toruk out at the break of dawn for his idea of breakfast. They ended up finding a catch of Rinafruit, perfectly ripe...which meant they had tottered back up into their hammocks feeling very, very, happy about two hours later.

Groaning, he stood on wobbly legs, reminding himself he wasn't a youth anymore and that this was certainly something he should not do. Yawning, he stretched, thinking he was glad that the sun was setting, because it was entirely to bright for his liking.

He approached slowly, mouth occupied, so as to be able to give Kaym'itan more time should he still be asleep. He was pleased to see that he was awake, however wobbly. He paced up close and set the packet down. "Greetings, brother," he said softly. His voice rarely rose above that of a low murmur, due to his intensely shy and self-restrained nature. Still, it didn't mean he was unfriendly by any means. He offered Kaym'itan a sympathetic smile. "Did you not sleep well?"

He was already aware that his own schedule ran counter to the night scout's. When he was just getting up, the night scouts would be coming in for their sleeping time. Now that his own sleeping time was approaching, it was time for Kaym to be up and about. Still, their schedules overlapped plenty enough to socialize and deal with such business as this. Kaneon never rushed, so he merely sat and opened himself to listen should Kaym require it. The packet remained at his feet, unforgotten but not necessarily the most important consideration.

Kaym'itan tilted his neck to the side, pleased to feel the pop as tension released from the kink he seemed to have managed as he slept. He turned to look over his shoulder at the crafter, and gave him a sheepish smile.

" It was not a matter of not sleeping Brother, I slept well..it is a matter of what made me sleep. Toruk and I found some Rina fruit that was ripe. We ended up eating more then was good for us, but.." he shrugged his massive shoulders, shaking out his shaggy mane, " it was a special occasion." He cat-grinned at the other lion and stifled a yawn.

"What brings you up this way Kaneon?" He asked as he reached up and scratched his ear with his back foot. The night scout was relaxed, and smiling, his normally gruff and silent exterior exchanged for this...well...content one. It was odd, and perhaps the first time Kaneon had ever seen him so..so..relaxed.

It made Kaneon beam to see the other male so at ease with himself this evening. Some were naturally on an even keel, others often high and happy at all times. Not so with Kaym. Though he often kept quiet as Kaneon did, the words he spoke were often rough-edged and untempered. Not that this tended to bother the crafter. He was used to taking the sharp edges of tongues when he did not perform as it was expected he would. That was the price for being an artist. Not everyone appreciated your attempts to please them. Still, Kaym had never been particularly grouchy with him, and he himself always wished the best on all, so it filled him with pleasure to see his 'brother' so comfortable, despite whatever after-affects he might be feeling from the fruit.

"I have brought your order, Kaym'itan," he said quietly, scooping up the packet in a gentle paw and offering it to the other male. "Each of the pieces you asked for are there. I think you'll especially like the feathers." He was not one to praise his own work, and truly it was not anything of his handiwork he now claimed Kaym would like, but what Eywa had given to him to use. "If you would like to look at them to be sure they suit you, I can wrap them back up easily for you." His voice remained in hushed tones, as one afraid to wake another, but it was simply his way. He never spoke loudly, never shouted, most certainly never roared. His was a quiet life, muted and meek, but not withdrawn. No, if he never interacted, what good was he to the People? Better to spend his time crafting alone, but letting others seek him as they needed, and bringing his work to them. It was his life, and he was satisfied with it.... in all but one aspect.

Kaym'itan's face lite up as if Eywa's own light graced it, and the smile that came to his muzzle was infectious. He took the package from the quiet Crafter, looking for all the world like a cub with his first gift. Unwrapping it carefully, his scarlet eyes fell on the items and he was speechless.

" Kaneon...Brother..." the night scout's usually gruff voice was filled with awed joy, " How did you manage to find such a blue that will match Ruopa's fur so perfectly?"

He glided a claw over the delicate craftsmanship, " They are perfect, beautiful, just as she is. I can not tell you how much...how..important this gift is."

The pale-coated lion smiled with genuine gladness to see Kaym so enchanted with the items, which clearly were a gift for his beloved. But even as he smiled, his throat closed with a familiar sadness, and he blinked his eyes swiftly to keep back the dampness. Oh, he had given gifts to the one he loved, but he could never give her loverly gifts such as these. These were personal gifts, from one heart to another, and the lioness he cared so much for was already taken. He took great pains to keep his feelings to himself, but he did not let it keep him from her side. Many a talk they had had, and he was known to be one she confided in. But this... this that Kaym reveled in was not to be his.

He covered quickly for his slip of sudden emotion by dipping his head in graceful acceptance of the praise. "It is but what talent Eywa gifted me with," he demurred, though clearly flattered. "I will be going back for more of those feathers," he added with a nod to the shining pile of jewelry. "I shall set some aside, should you wish something else made for your lady." He had swallowed the lump away, and his gaze was once more calm and serene. He was adept at smoothing away his own sorrows and thoughts, the better to be present and listening to what others were experiencing. "I am very glad they suit her so well. When will you bestow them upon her?" It wasn't meant as an intrusive question, but an inquiry that allowed Kaym to share his joy and anticipation.

Kaym'itan was a warrior, his blood had been spilt in the war, and as a scout he was trained to notice the subtle shifts in those around him. So he did not miss the sorrow that quickly came to the Crafter's eyes, and was just as quickly hidden away. Tilting his head to the side, regarded the other lion with his scarlet eyes, before answering his question.

"Tomorrow night, when she meets me before the moon raises. It is my hope she will...understand my feelings for her. I am not good with words, but actions I may speak with. I thank you for setting aside the feathers, if Eywa is kind, you will make matching cuffs for us."

The sorrow that he had seen on the gentle Crafter bothered him, and he wondered at it for a moment, but not being an intrusive feline, and knowing how important privacy was for himself, he choose not to pry...this time.

Ah, so it was truly serious then! Kaneon chuffed gently in soft celebration. "Ah, then I wish you luck, brother. A female's heart is a thing to cherish." His smile was only lightly touched with wistfulness, but mostly shone with sincerity. "If you do not mind my presumption, I shall be considering a design and gathering materials for those cuffs." Something told him that once the gruff Kaym chose a mate, it was unlikely that the pairing would fall through. He was neither hasty nor easily swayed by his emotions. Thus, if he felt it safe enough to give such gifts as these, and spoke of matching cuffs, then certainly it was bound to be.

The last of the sun's direct rays faded from the foliage, sinking the tree almost immediately into the duskiness of evening. Kaneon glanced towards the last of the glow that indicated where the sun had set. "Ah, I see it is nearly time for your patrol," he observed quietly. "I shall leave you to it then." Swiftly and without fuss he tucked the little bundle of gifts closed again and left it at Kaym's feet. "Safe eve, brother," he said in farewell before turning and padding back towards the interior of the tree, where the shadows laid deeper. Perhaps a walk beneath the moon would do him good tonight, once full dark had fallen and the white face of the moon had risen. For some reason, he knew his heart was not likely to let him rest tonight.

Kaym'itan nodded, " I would not find it presumptuous Brother, but a favorable sign. Ru is...she is the one." He smiled at the crafter as he re-bundled the gift, " I look forward to the day I may come to you and ask that you begin the work."

The night scout looked to the gathering twilight, " Aye, it is time. Ru should be waiting to see me off." Tucking the precious gift into his hammock, he bowed his head to the other lion, " Thank you again Brother, and safe eve to you as well."

He ran a quick paw over his muzzle and through his mane as he watched the retreating back of the shy crafter, wondering what made his shoulders bow with such a weariness, or his eyes fill with such a bright sorrow.

I shall ask him if he seems so again the next time I see him
, Kaym'itan thought to himself as he descended from the sleeping branches, None should carry such a weight alone.
