Arden was going through the forest, a small satchel looped over his neck. He was looking for some rare type of fungii that grew deep within the forest. It had been missing from his stores lately and was increasingly difficult to find. Taking a brief break as he came to a small stream. Placing down his bag, he stepped his hooves into the water. Letting the water flow over them and refresh them. Leaning down, he took a long sip before looking up. His ears flicked as he tried to place the sound that had come to his ears. It was...somewhere. Shaking it off, he leaned back down to drink again.

Calixte was wandering on the side of a stream, following the curves of its path among the copses and hills - just wandering, really, as though she was taking a break from society. Wherever she went, though, a tiny blue bear followed her, copying everything she did. Sometimes he would cross his feet and stumble when she was weary, or walk straight and steady when she was alert. He was her little follower, always curious. Her butterflies often fell behind to play with him and keep him entertained and in line - many things in the deep places of the forest might prey on him, or worse, and Calixte could never let that happen to Oke. She'd protected him since he'd lost his mother, and she wouldn't let anything hurt him.
She stayed by the stream to remind herself to drink, for if she did not, there was a great possibility that she might become dehydrated, and with only Oke there to run for help... Though he'd been instructed to run for help if she collapsed suddenly, he would have no idea where to look, and Kenton was nowhere nearby, as far as he knew. In any case, the stream was the safest place for her.
As she began to round the next bend, she heard something - a rustling of leaves, and the soft sound of someone drinking; a slight splash of hooves in running water. She stopped suddenly, and ducked behind a copse of trees. Oke ran into her accidentally from behind, and let out a small yelp of surprise. She shushed him, and peeked out from behind one of the trees. There, in the stream, stood a beige and brown stallion - whether he was patterned or covered in leaves, she could not tell.
Not doubting that he had heard Oke, Calixte kept herself between the stallion and her cub, and called out a soft hello.

Arden turned, lifting his head from the water. The small droplets cascaded down his muzzle and fell quietly and contently back into the stream. A little wary, he turned and for a moment saw nothing. But then the leaves moved---no, a head. A soft voice, like a whisper of leaves called out to him.
Turning, he watched her, glancing around as he turned. She seemed to be alone, with a small bear cub. Smiling, he greeted her kindly. "Don't let me be in your way for water. I'm only passing through."

"Oh, you are not in our way," Calixte said, coming out of her hiding place to join the stallion by the stream. He was one of their kind - one of the forest people, a Cerynei. "What is your name, sir?" she asked, curious. She had never seen so many Cerynei in so short a time, and was excited to have met yet another one - and one who seemed to have a bit of a commonality with herself.

Arden smiled at her as she approached. Her leafy green hair was interesting, he'd never seen anyone like that, it intrigued him. "I'm Arden, it's my pleasure to meet you." He tilted his head to smile at her, "Who are you milady?"

Calixte returned Arden's smile as she nodded. "It is a pleasure to meet you, as well, Arden. My name is Calixte, and this is Oke," she said, turning her neck to gesture to the little blue cub hiding behind her hind legs. "He is a bit shy around strangers," she said, turning back to Arden. She tried to study him without his notice - his leaves were markings, she could see, now being so close to him. They seemed to be for the purpose of camouflage, but she couldn't be sure.

"What a beautiful name." He smiled gently, "What may I ask brings you here? I've not seen you or your kind before." He studied the leaves of her hair, her slightly glowing eyes. She was highly unusual and he was intrigued. She looked like one of his kind, but not exactly.

Calixte's smile turned slightly rueful as he complimented her name, and she gave him a slight nod of acknowledgement. She never had learned just what the correct response to a compliment like that might be. "I am just wandering, really," she replied, watching his eyes as he looked at her. This was a look to which she had become accustomed in these lands - it seemed that no one had ever met a dryad before, and they all wondered what she was and how she could be both plant and horse... Indeed, in her homeland, there'd never been a different name for her species, the sentient ones. Here, though, she was a soquili and doubly special; strange it was that she had never felt any different. "My kind are the dryads," Calixte said in explanation, but continued quickly in case this passing comment was not enough. "There are a few that I have met in these lands: though Cerynei are the forest people, we are the protectors of the forest, born from trees in need of care." At least, that was what she'd been told all her life by the elder dryads and grove keepers. She was something special, someone who was meant to do good in the world. Only half the time did she believe it.
"And what of you?" she asked in kind, gesturing with a small nod in his direction. "How have your travels been?" Her curiosity was beginning to get the best of her, for Calixte was seeing more and more Cerynei in these lands, each more interesting than the last.
