Illarion flicked his tail fin negligently. It was a nice spring day, the cool breeze wafted over him. He was on a quest. He was of age now, able to learn more about what he had chosen for his life path. He had no idea how long his journey would take, or what dangers would come during it. But he would have to be prepared, to become better than he was. If he did not, how would he ever find his Queen? He knew without a doubt, that she was out there. He did not know her name yet, but he knew she existed just like the sun--both warming his heart. Making his way under a tree, he paused to rest for a few moments and drink from the smooth flowing stream.

Today was a fine day to be out. A gentle breeze made the warmth of the day pleasant and allowed him to stay cool while he went about his exercises. Keeping fit was only but part of his current training, there was a fair mix of mental and physical activity to keep him busy each day, even on days like today when his mentor Ironforge was not available for training. Galloping across the open grass Kaleidoscope was at his full speed, large hooves leaving ruts in the soft earth. His long black braided mane and tail flowed out behind him. He could feel his heart beating quite rapidly within his chest and while he wasn't exactly winded he knew when it was time to slow his pace and rest. Now was that time.
Spotting a stream to take a drink from the stallion veered his course slightly and slowed his hooves to a gentle trot. After a few moments he came to a stop at the edge of the stream and lowered his head to drink. The cool water was refreshing and once his thirst was slacked he lifted his head, a few droplets of water clinging to his chin for a few moments before falling to the ground. It was then he spotted another stallion not far off. Giving his head a bit of a toss to get his forelock out of his eyes he called out to the other. "Afternoon."

Illarion was lost in thought for a moment. This was his first adventure truly by himself. It was going to be fun, a little scary...but it'd be okay. He was ready for this grand adventure, to meet new soquili. He wanted to learn to fight, to fend of nature and to become one with it. All these thoughts passed through his mind as he took a sip of water. As he heard his voice called, he looked up to where the voice had come from.
Across the stream was another stallion. He had completely missed the obvious presence of someone else. He wasn't going to make it long out here if he couldn't even tell if another soquili was around. Walking for gently through the water, he smiled. "Good Afternoon, yourself."
He tried to assess the other soquili quickly. Taller, more built than him. Land dweller, but of similar stories. He was more skilled looking and more at ease. Definately not someone he wished to make an enemy with.

Dipping his head in a more proper greeting now that the other stallion knew of his presence. "Names Kaleidoscope though most call me Kale for short, it's good to meet you. What's your name?" Kale took a moment to look over the other stallion quickly. He had not met too many kelpies in the past however he remembered one of two who had been quite unpleasant beasts to encounter. So far this stallion seemed to be fine to be around, though things could change quickly enough so Kale would stay alert for now until the truth about the other stallions could be revealed.
"Are you from these parts?" Kale himself was merely passing through the area during his many training exercises - or in today's case a break from one. During his breaks he liked to explored the various lands, not just to learn about the lay of the land but also meet those who dwell within the lands. He wished to gleam as much information as possible, information that could one day be useful to him. A knight needed to know plenty in order to serve those around him. Whether this stallion knew these lands or others there may be valuable information to share, or just a friendly chat.

Illarion watched as the other male eyed him warily. He could feel a light flush to his skin, his...type were not known for their genteel spirit. It was now how all kelpies were perceived...with fairly fair reasoning though.
"No, I'm from...off. I'm on a journey, to gain knowledge, strength and training. And yourself?"

So he was traveling for nearly the same reason that he himself was. Funny how sometimes one could run into like minded individuals in the most random of places. Kale couldn't help but let out an amused chuckle. So similar and yet so different. "You could say I'm doing the same thing. I'm currently training to become a knight. My mentor lives not too far from here." Obviously today he had the day off from training or else he would be back with Ironforge doing whatever the shaggy stallion asked of him.

Illarion couldn't help his immediate reaction of pleasure, "You have a mentor?" It was something he had only dreamed of one day getting, he'd not really had any organized training in knighthood or anything. It had just been something close to his heart, a part of who he was and who he wanted to be.
However, this Kale had seized not only the opportunity of knighthood but had found someone to mentor and train him in those ways. It was something that he, Illarion, was still lacking---along with a bit of direction. Admittedly, he wasn't that organized, just wandering trying to find answers. Maybe this was an answer?
"How did you get a mentor? I've always hoped for one...I just never knew how or where, or....anything really." He felt the hot flush of shame to his face, "Do you think, I could meet him sometime, see how you train?"

Kale let out a hearty laugh at the stallions sudden enthusiasm and string of questions. He knew all too well how challenging it had been to find a mentor, and now that he had one he was even more grateful that he had been so persistent about getting Ironforge to give him a chance. Imagine if he had have given up the first time the shaggy stallion said no, then he might have ended up with some lesser Soquili teaching him. Oh yes Ironforge could be grumpy at times, but he was a great mentor in the end, and his grumpiness was really just a part of that. "Yes I have a mentor. And a darn fine one at that."
He thought for a moment about exactly how he had come to be Ironforge's apprentice. "Well I had been searching for a long time. Found a few Soquili that might have done the job but they didn't feel right to me. So I kept searching. One day I heard a rumor about a herd and a knight within it. So I dug around for a bit more information and he sounded like the type of mentor I needed. I then tracked him down and asked him to train me. He said no." Kale said with a chuckle and shook his head. "But I didn't give up, I kept going to him until he finally said he would give me a single chance to prove myself. I must have done something right that day because he took me on as his apprentice." And a damn lucky day that had been. "So if I tell you anything today, it's not to give up, even if they say no to you keep trying. You never know what can happen."
Kale paused for a moment. "Well...I might be able to arrange a meeting so you can see him and watch us train. Ironforge is a bit rough around the edges so you'd have to deal with that if he agreed. Maybe he could even suggest a mentor for you. There are bound to be a few in his herd that have time to train someone."

Illarion couldn't help but laugh. "I'll remember, persistence then." He could just imagine the soquilli in front of him badgering this Ironforge to help him. That was the way to do it--prove how bad you wanted it. All he had to do was find a mentor and then be persistent too. Eventually he'd find someone, even if it took years.
"How'd you research him? Do you know what you did to please him?" These were the questions that blurted out of Illarions' mouth. "Sorry, maybe that's rude of me to as so bluntly."
He nodded his head at the other stallion, "I wouldn't mind. I expected it to be rough. I'd still really like to see, if that can be arranged."
