The sun glinted off of the armor that adorned Amelia's forehead as she emerged from the treeline into a clearing. How she missed the graveyard and how it made her feel safe and warm, she knew her mother needed her and Anaon though. On this journey to find her father Amelia had left behind much and yet nothing all at once. Her glowing eyes traced down her legs until reaching the flames currently engulfing the greenery beneath her boney hooves. Where once green grass covered the earth now there was scorched earth. All at once the words of the Wind Serpent Fyglia returned to her. "Hideous monster." That is what she had been called. With a sigh she walked toward a cool running creek in the middle of the valley. Bending her head to take a drink she paused to observe her reflection.

Tucked in front of her ear a delicate flower glowed with an eerie light. Her mother had nearly the same flower, though it looked more....normal. Even her glowing eyes were obvious in the daylight and she could hear small animals in the distance scurrying to run from her. Her sister ate rats and other small rodents without even a sniff but Amelia tried to resist her craving for meat. She didn't want to look even more of a monster than she already did. With that thought she bowed her head further and took a nice long drink of the cool water. Once finished she lifed her head only enough to stare at the mare in the creek once more.

Her grandfather was a brave knight, an Angeni who hunted darkness all of his life. Her great-grandfather was the same way, an honorable old stallion who loved his family without hesitation. Even so, she remembered the look on both of their faces when her mother lead her and her sister in. They all fawned over Anaon and while they were nice to her it seemed as though they were hesitant to get too near to her. With a somewhat dark laugh she slammed her burning hoof down into the water with a loud sizzle, causing her reflection to bubble and distort.

A bright sunny day complimented by a gentle breeze. Such a gorgeous day it was, and yet something felt strange, almost out of place. Allowing his orbs to glance about Eros soon targeted the oddity that jumped out at him. Strange hoof prints seemingly scorched into the earth where delicate grass should have been. The massive Angeni leaned foward, eying the small wisp of smoke that rose from the prints, signifying to him that they were reasonably fresh. His curiosity seemed to get the best of the male because soon enough he was becoming quite the tracker, following these prints until they lead him to a quaint little creek while a luminous female. The singed tracks ended right beneath the flames of her feet and this wondrous and unique trait sparked some sort of excitement in the pit of Eros' stomach.

Slowly the stallion neared her, trying to make his heavy body as weightless and stealthy as possible. He was just a few yards off when something seemed to trigger in the female that caused a spine chilling laughter to erupt out of her throat. He was enough to phase the winged male for a mere second before taking a few final steps. "You find something funny? I don't mean to be nosy but I would enjoy a good laugh myself," he spoke in a warm and wholesome voice. His usual speaking tone when he's meeting somebody for the first time. His eyes quickly fell to the hissing and bubbling water that seemed to be growing angry around her hot hooves. "Miss, doesn't that hurt your feet?" he spoke with a gentle voice, furrowing his brow to show his concern. It didn't sound to pleasant. He remained at this safe distance, in case he was startling to her.

The sizzling stopped suddenly as she pulled her flaming hoof from the water. The voice didn’t cause her to jump or frighten her in any way. Though many others would have jumped with the surprise she found it quite normal. Turning her head slowly her glowing eyes instantly became drawn to white wings like those of her grandfather’s. Her emotion of shock and awe remained masked as she kept her expression stoic. After a moment of looking him over suspiciously she answered the questions he had asked in a smooth, delicate sounding voice. “Genetics are funny and, no, my hooves feel no pain.” Turning her entire body so she was facing him entirely she took a few steps forward, closing the gap between them only a little bit. Her eyes locked with his momentarily as she began contemplating a question that would soon cause her to speak once more.

“Are you not leery of someone who looks like me? Glowing eyes and flaming hooves generally cause others to avoid intersecting with me.” She found it only a little laughable that an Angeni, part of her bloodline had found her. Her mind flitted off for a moment as she realized she was conversing with an Angeni and there was no flash of mistrust in his eyes. Usually creatures like her were something they would desire to conquer or avoid but here he was, speaking to her. So far he didn’t seem frightened and that somewhat caught her off guard. “What is your name stranger? And how did you come to be so bold?” The flames on her legs burned a little brighter as her interest peaked. She allowed herself a moment to take in his deep purple color and the roses around his neck and legs. The flowers caused her to think of the glowing roses on her back and the vanilla flower glowing in front of her ear.

It seemed like the glowing mare had been fully aware of Eros' presence the entire time he had sneaked his way over to her. The gigantic stallion had been so sure that his hoof steps were as silent as a falling feather. What almost made him a bit weary was the way she turned so calmly to stare at him, and then that rather long pause that followed once she had caught sight of him. Was she displeased by his sudden arrival? Perhaps she was having some important alone time that he had so rudely interrupted. Apologies were about to spill from his lips when all the sudden she spoke, and he was caught off guard by how sweet she sounded. The voice that he so eagerly listened to was definitely far from what he expected. It reminded him of a quite little brook in spring time. Soft, gentle, and consistently smooth. After he had cherished her voice he felt a wave of relief wash over his nerves at reassurance that she was quite unharmed. "Oh good, I'm glad to hear that," his answer was short since he didn't exactly know how to respond to the whole genetics thing. At least it brought him some sort of content feeling to know it ran in her family and wasn't an oddity, not that he would have thought of it as such if it had not been common in her bloodline.

Her posture began to shift, and soon the eerie enchantress was turning to face him. Everything about her was so calming and this was a refreshing trait to be confronted with. Eros certainly thought he had seen it all but she was truly a unique soul, and he was all that more intrigued by her openness. It wasn't particularly eager but it was willing, and that's all he asked for. He stood his ground, never once showing a sign of distress or regret for approaching her. He was always open to meeting soquili of every size, shape, and quirk. "Leery? Not at all," he spoke in a rich voice, filled to the brim with warmth. "In fact, it's those traits of yours that drew me in. They're rather appealing," he bowed his head to show his sincerity and took a few steps closer all the more, leaving but a few feet between the two of them. Her next round of questions really got his blood going though. Finally, some introductions. "My name is Eros, miss," he began with a heart felt smile, but when she asked how he came to be so bold he couldn't help but chuckle at the question. "What you call bold I call friendliness." He glanced down at her hooves with an interested smile before flicking his eyes back up to her glowing orbs. "What might your name be?" he questioned the fair lady, full focused on her. His mind couldn't help but flutter with possible matches that might suit her well.

Rather than shrinking away upon her eyes meeting his, the stallion stepped forth as though she were just another Soquili lurking about. As the gap closed she suddenly felt uncomfortable and took one step back, widening the space once more. Never had someone stopped long enough to speak to her nor did they stand so near so she felt rather out of her element but she did not allow that to rattle her. Her posture remained stiff and her face stoic beneath the mask of metal. She was rather amused at his comment about being glad she was not in pain. She hadn’t heard anyone say such things to her before, even her own family skirted the issue of her burning legs. Her mother of course knew from being around her father that there was no pain involved but this stallion had been the first to actually make an enquiry about it. She fought to contain the burning of the flames on her hooves as he eyed them once more, she knew the flames often gave way to her emotions and therefore she had practiced controlling them.

When he spoke his voice betrayed no sign of fear or discomfort, merely a strong and seemingly kind presence. She had become accustomed to her mother’s soft voice, so full of love and song but most of those who spoke to her had either a hissing voice or just a gravely one. Suddenly she wished her sister would trot up and steal her away, fear was not present in her but nerves were. Never had she spoken with someone as kind and light as he, she didn’t quite know how to act. “A-appealing?” Despite her best efforts she could not keep her voice from cracking at that one word. She had been called hideous, monstrous and frightening but never before had she heard the word appealing being used to describe her. Taking one more step back she attempted to regain the little composure she had lost merely seconds before. Clearing her throat she gave her best empty grin. “Appealing as in interesting? Where you merely intrigued to witness a freak before your very own eyes?” She did not know his motives but she assumed she wasn’t too far off. If he wasn’t frightened or disgusted by her perhaps he was interested to see such an ugly creature up close instead.

“Amelia.” She responded shortly, still curious about what he had really approached her for. “Amelia Nox.” Her resolve began to fade with a smile, a smile unlike any she had seen before. Suddenly her cheeks grew warm and she was all at once grateful for the armor over her face. She had been snarled at, scoffed at or screamed at but never smiled at. Her family obviously smiled at her but it was a completely different experience when coming from a stranger. Her glowing green eyes once again met with his, gauging him, waiting for that flash that she often saw but to her surprise it never came.

A step back? Eros' high spirits began to plummet as she drew back her relaxed appearance and had a sense of hesitance. Had he given off the wrong expression, or maybe even the wrong vibe? What could he have done to make her repel from him with such suddenness? "Oh, I'm sorry about that..." he took a step back himself, placing a good distance between them again, glancing down at his feet so that he could place them properly below him and stand with confidence, or faux confidence now that he had already messed up. Was it just him or was it getting harder to breath? Perhaps it was the wrap of the roses around his neck that was causing him to lack oxygen. It never occurred to naive Eros that it might actually be the pressure of being in the presence of somebody who catches your fancy.

When his compliment began to be twisted into some sort of heartless insult he furrowed his eyebrows, looking dead serious. It was such a quick transition from light hearted to stern, "I did not meant that at all. You are twisting my words into something awful..." he actually began to frown. One facial expression that he disliked quite a bit. "I meant appealing as in luring, captivating, enchanting. Usually most picture it as a positive word. Why do you assume I mean you harm?" If not physical harm then verbal. Was she the sort of soquili who was damaged as a foal? It wouldn't have been the first time he had cam across this sort of complication before.

Once he had acquired her name he allowed his head to lean forward, eyes locking onto her gorgeous green lamps for eyes and comforted her with all the honesty in his body, "Amelia, you are far from a freak. You seem like such a charming, beautiful lady and should never think of yourself as anything less than perfection." He enjoyed building up low confidence on much deserving soquili. It was just something that left him feeling satisfied and useful. He could think of at least a good hand full of stallions who would be falling at her feet, or flames in her case. At any rate, they would be lucky to hold such a stunning female's heart.

He glanced her over a little more, noting the flowers, the flames, and interesting metal that decorated her already beautiful body. A graceful looking mare that radiated a green glow that made her look otherworldly. "Dear, who was it who said you were a freak? Surely it couldn't have been somebody creditable?" He took another step, feeling the need to nuzzle the girl in a comforting way. He was a touchy person but not to those who enjoyed their personal space. With how Amelia had retreated before, he was a bit concerned with closing the gap anymore than he already had. What if she ran away this time? What a terrible way to end a first impression.

The metal pieces of armor around her throat all at once felt less restricting as he took a step back. It wasn’t that he was frightening or overstaying his welcome, it was that he was the first normal looking soquili outside of her own family to approach her so easily. Again she eyed him as he placed his feet, waiting for the uncomfortable pose or the flash of the eye that was a tell of fear or discomfort. She figured she would see it about now but again he remained at ease in her presence. The only other Soquili to have been so comfortable with her was the Wind Serpent Fyglia, the one who had opened her eyes to the monster part of her. She did not respond to his apology for she knew not what to say. Her mind was whirring and clicking as she attempted to figure out this strange Angeni stallion before her. The flames on her legs danced with unhindered curiosity, his color was like nothing she had ever encountered and his demeanor was one of unfamiliarity to her. What made him so able and willing to walk up to a monster without first trembling in fear?

The swift change on his countenance pulled her from her musings and she fixed her roaming eyes on his. Something had changed; she had done something to bring about this quick swing of emotion within him, but why? Why did he care what she thought of herself? What others perceived of her? She listened to him speak without interrupting; all the while feeling that such compliments were wasted on one such as herself. She was lovely, so she had heard, but in an eerie sort of way. A way that made possible suitors itch with discomfort or fear. Her great grandfather had told her she was lovely then added in that it was just in a different way than everyone else. “Why assume that I assume you mean me harm? I was merely speaking from experience and truth. It is something I have become quite accustomed to so even if you were desiring to feast your eyes on a freak it would harm me none.” Her head turned away from him and the corners of her maw turned up in a gentle smile. She had upset him, for whatever reason he was becoming upset with the words she had spoken. His next words caused her spine to go ridged and her eyes to widen ever so slightly beneath their silver hideout.

Charming. Beautiful. Perfect. The words bounced around in her skull momentarily before she was able to actually comprehend what he had been saying. Clearing her throat she shook out her black curled mane and acted as though he hadn’t caught her off guard. “Aren’t Angeni’s normally opposed to darkness? Would you not rather be complimenting a mare with fluffy white wings such as your own? Flattering blue eyes and golden locks? What makes you say such things about a mare such as myself? One whose hooves are mere bone and flame and whose eyes give off an eerie green glow known only in the nightmares of foals?” Her voice never once lifted in tone as her questions went on and on. She had moved on from being in shock and feeling nervous to being curious about where he came off saying such things. Was he messing with her? Were there other Angeni hiding out somewhere laughing as he mocked her? Or was he being sincere? He would have to be insane.

This time his step forward did not phase her, she did not feel the need to pull back or retreat. Now her curiosity had snagged her as it seemed his own curiosity had snagged him. “Well, freak wasn’t exactly the word that was used, that was an improvisation all my own. As to who said it I shall not be specific but I can say it came from someone who knows what a monster is when they see it.” She looked skyward as though in contemplation. “Ah yes, hideous monster I believe were the words used. I have heard them before but that was the first time I was clued in to what I was.”

It wasn't bluntly obvious but there was some sort of swing in her expression to show that Eros effected the beauty in some way. There was no doubt about it that Amelia was certainly a mysterious mare but he wasn't going to school her on how to behave. She had her own mortals and so did he. A part of him wanted to return to his usual smiling but that would have killed the effect of his words, which he meant very sincerely. When she explained her feelings on being called a freak it didn't lift any weight off his shoulders. In fact, he felt the burden of having to think that she was so accustomed to being called such cruel names. "It wouldn't? But why? Others should not be so rude. You can not judge a book by it's cover," he gave his philosophy openly, but dared not pressure it on the poor girl who already seemed to have enough input from strangers to scruff up her self esteem.

His compliments had clearly effected her, but he couldn't tell if it was a positive or negative reaction. All he could read was her shock and awe and sometimes that wasn't necessarily a good thing. Instead of agreeing or disagreeing she asked her own question to counter his, probably her attempts to steer away from an awkward conversation. Eros was more than happy to oblige. "Well, if that's the case then aren't you feeling rather troubled?" he noted her wings were familiar in their race and she had to have some percentage of his blood in her. "Then again, it all depends on how one defines darkness. Do you really think that just because you appear to be dark means you necessarily have to be dark? I've seen many 'dark' looking soquili with the most beautiful of hearts, and visa versa." He hoped that was making sense to her, because he really wanted to each this girl something that she would never forget.

How come she was being so stubborn? It was easy to understand how she might have been taught to think of herself as a monster but there was a time when she'd have to step back and think how beautiful she was. "You're far from hideous... and certainly not monstrous in any way" he sighed and suspected that this girl didn't have a stallion to call her his own, which was odd to him. A creature as sweet as she sounded surely had to have some suitors chasing her tail. Still, he shouldn't just assume these things. His first assumption was obviously wrong, since she had pointed it out to him that she didn't think he was meaning harm. "I'm sure your mate tells you this sort of thing all the time, am I right?" He raised an eyebrow, "Perhaps I should have a talk with him, since he's obviously not doing his job correctly and protecting you from such cruel strangers." He already had cogs working around in his mind, picking out what she might need in a stallion. She would be a difficult one to search for but he could do it. He always loved a good challenge.

Her muscles loosened ever so slightly as she began entering in to what she deemed to be a normal conversation. There were no bones being crunched beneath his feet and no dangerous red and black tail whipping about to distract her. She was peering into eyes that were not glowing red and looking at a stallion who reminded her somewhat of that small half of her bloodline. Her wings which remained upright most of the time twitched a little as a breeze blew gently by, cooling off her sun heated back. It wasn’t hard for her to forget her Angeni heritage; in fact, it was harder for her to remember that part at all. His smiling demeanor had yet to return and she began to realize he wasn’t fooling around with her as she had once assumed he was. “I did not think them rude for merely stating what they saw. When you hear a foal speak about something frightening lurking about in the dark you generally get the image of glowing red eyes peering out at you, I merely have glowing green eyes. Bones generally aren’t appealing, especially if they are protruding from someone who is still living. “ Shrugging her shoulders she looked off into the distance. “They were merely going off of what life told them to fear. Regardless of whether the book is sweet inside the outside can be rather repulsive and many wish nothing more than to avoid it.” Turning back to him she began to wonder if her reply would make him more at ease or cause him to remain being solemn.

A smooth giggle of amusement emanated from within her throat at his question about whether or not sue was troubled. “I am indeed Eros. Knowing part of me is angelic and pure and also being aware that the other part is dark and somewhat frightening.” Turning her back to him she moved slowly over to the water’s edge once more and peered at her reflection. “I am very different from any in my family. My father, the one who I got these charming looks from has been gone since I was in a basket so I cannot ask him about this rather odd appearance of mine.” She stared a moment more before bringing her head back up and turning it so she was looking at him out of the corner of her glowing green eye. “I am troubled indeed.” Angling her body so she was once more looking directly at him she released a gentle sigh. “My appearance does suggest a rather dark appeal but there are some further traits passed on by my father that add to it. My mother says he seeped the emotion of fear from his pores and at times I can feel it coming from myself, I also crave meat at times.” She was never one for holding back information but she found herself growing uncomfortable with this conversation and was thus glad he spoke on.

Her comfort lasted only a moment more as he paid her another compliment. She was not certain how to respond when someone said something nice to her. When she was told she was a monster she merely asked what she should do, but this was something entirely different. A simple ‘what should I do?’ didn’t seem all that appropriate right now. The fog was lifted when Eros mentioned her having a mate and she didn’t stop herself from laughing. “You do not need to worry about him failing to care for me and you do not need to waste your time speaking with him. There is no such stallion in my life.”

This girl was making some rather valid points, but the whole perspective she was looking at this from seemed unsuitable for somebody who was just down right appealing in general. Even though she had a mysterious eerie factor to her the girl wore a veil of beauty and awe around her anyways. Speaking of that beauty, it was rather distracting. The way her hair shined in the sunlight, monochromatic tones with accents of glowing greens. Her mane had a curl to it that reminded him of ocean waves. Her wings, though not as large and fluffy as his own were equally eye catching what with the little green tips displayed so promptly. Yes, she was a looker, despite what 'flaws' she believed she had. When the mare spoke in such a calm fashion with her mind made up on the topic he had to admire her confidence in her own words. There was no question about it that she believed that she was a monster, but he was starting to gather sympathy for the girl rather quickly. "I suppose that you're right. We're taught to fear certain things so that we're protected from danger, though... I do wish, for your own benefit, that you would have more positive outlooks on these situations." He felt a random breeze gust up and kicked up his main, causing his feathers to flutter as if they were delighted. "I bet you look beautiful when you smile and laugh," he added as his own person note, making that his goal for now. He'd make her laugh and relax somehow.

It seemed he didn't have to wait long for that bubbly laugh because right after he questioned her current mind set he caught the cutest giggle, causing his own expression to warm and his smile spread like wildfire. Eros made a small reminder to himself that her voice made him think of butterflies, delicate and light. A vast difference from her appearance that was for sure. She turned from him though, making him step forward, yearning to keep his eye on that smile of hers. "Oh?" he spoke curiously and followed her to the rivers edge, glancing from her to the reflection with focused green orbs. He received some explanation and background on the girl, which he thought would help him in his search to find her perfect soul mate, though she didn't seem to find it to comforting to talk about. He couldn't even begin to understand how having a single parent must feel. Both his mom and dad were around his entire life and gave him lots of love and affection. Never had Eros received any cruel words of the sort so it was difficult for him to relate, but that didn't mean he couldn't comfort. Though, he didn't want to push her on the subject so when she continued on with the conversation he shrugged off her past, placing a sticky note in the back of his mind to help remind him that it was a touchy subject for the girl.

Eros gave a surprised whinny as he listened to Amelia's sweet dismissal of any stallion in her life. "What? That's crazy! Amelia, if you simply do not want to tell me who he is all you had to do was say so. I surely what bother whatever handsome stallion who holds your heart if you do not wish me too," he teased her, playing his games obviously. He grew slightly more serious now, stepping closer to the glowy mare, "Is it your choice? To have an untamed heart, I mean. Is it your wish to remain single?" He never put his hoof where it didn't belong. If a stallion or mare requested that he stay out of their love life he would most certainly honor their wishes but if they yearned for their other half he would stop at nothing until he granted that wish. It was his duty after all to spread romance and love across these lands. Even though he was the angeni of True Love he never really realized that it was ironic that he himself had never known true love. It was something rather sad to say the least.

He glanced back up at the mare again, fixing his twinkling eyes upon her fairness. He wondered what she was hiding under that armor. All he could guess was more beauty. He had met quite a good deal of females but only a very few had ever stood out to him like this, and if he had to pick a top mare who interested him it would be her hands down. "Amelia, let me ask you a question..." he shifted over so that he was closer to her than before, but respected her personal space for the most part. "What does love mean to you?" He expected her to have quite an interesting opinion on the matter due to what he had already learned about her. This girl seemed to lack the love that she rightfully deserved so did that make her a cold person to love or affection? If not, she was a strong soul for believing in it when the world shut her out. "I'm sorry if all of these discussions irritate or concern you. I'm only trying to help," he spoke as he furrowed his eyebrows together, showing how he meant what he said and said what he meant. He even leaned in to show some signs of comforting as he nipped at her gorgeous hair, brushing it to the side and out of her face with his muzzle.

His statement about having a more positive outlook on the situation had her thinking. Wasn’t her outlook already positive? She had accepted what she was or at least what she had been told she was. It wasn’t as though she was off in a corner sniveling about her lack of angelic looks. She didn’t quite understand what he meant and being a straightforward mare she tilted her head and made her questions known. “What do you mean by having a more optimistic outlook?” Her curiosity was pure, her tone smooth and questioning. She was not upset at him for what he said; she had learned to take the opinions of others in stride long ago. She was grateful for this quality for it broadened her horizons and seemingly made her more approachable, even if her flaming hooves did not. When he spoke of her looking more beautiful when smiling or blushing her brow crinkled and she felt her cheeks grow a little warm at the notion. She hadn’t had much experience with stallions complimenting her or making advances so she didn’t really know how to react when one did. She could understand how an expression of pure joy and happiness would be rather more appealing than one of sullen contemplation. She was happy to have steel covering her cheeks to disguise their now pink color.

His simple response at her description of her life allowed her to breathe more easily. He had not crinkled his nostrils in disgust or run away into the woods at her mention of meat so she figured she was doing an alright job of keeping this conversation afloat. “I am troubled but at the same time I attempt to not allow such problems to rule me entirely. I have other things I must focus on though those questions and thoughts do cross my mind at least once daily.” She finished out quietly. She looked at him once again, eyeballing him a moment and then inhaling deeply. “Are you not troubled to find your breed mixed with something so eerie?” A genuine question she had waited to ask an Angeni for some time to come. She had wanted to ask her grandfather Alex but was always fearful of what he would have to say about it. He had made his life hunting the evil creatures that went bump in the night and if he had said yes it would have thrown her into a dark pit of malcontent.

She rolled her eyes and laughed gently at his comment about her possibly keeping the truth from him about a lover. “I speak the truth Eros. I have been traveling nonstop with my mother and sister until recently, it hasn’t left me much time to converse with stallions or seek out a companion.” She considered his question a moment making sure to formulate the answer she felt was the most true to her before answering, her voice full of conviction. “I have yet to make a choice concerning love or as to whether or not I remain single. My time has been spent on other matters at hand so I suppose love and all that goes with it has been thrown on the backburner for now. Though I have my reservations about it.” She noticed the gap between them growing smaller but she did not feel the need to back away, she knew his intentions were not to mock her or poke the ‘beast’ so she didn’t have to worry. Though the nearness confused her, only members of her family had gotten this close before, no one else. She could tell his question had been no game for he asked it with an expression meant for business and answers.

He drew nearer once again and she could feel stiffening in her legs, she wasn’t used to it. It wasn’t that the nearness bothered her it was merely that it was not something she was faced with everyday; she had entered uncharted waters here. A much harder question had been shot directly at her. What did she think of love? She hadn’t thought much about it up until meeting Eros. Clearing her throat and looking to the side she allowed her mind to speak without the intervention of thought. “I haven’t yet experienced love and so I am no great judge, though from what I have seen, it cripples delicate hearts.” Her voice dropped, sounding sadder than before. “Often when I wake at night I see my mother staring off into the distance, silent tears of pain rolling down her lovely cheeks. Love left an ink stain on her heart, one she refuses to wash away. I have traveled much of my young life with her and my sister in search of my father so she may find him and be with the one she truly loves.” She paused a moment giving herself some time to gather the rest of her answer. “I have seen the bad it brings to the world but not the good. I am wary of it for I do not want to be the mare staring up at the stars with tears rolling down her cheeks because love failed her.” With that she turned back to look at him. Shaking her head at his apology she grinned. “If it had irritated me I would have walked away. I answer what I am asked; I feel no real reason to hide things.” He proximity grew nearer and nearer until the point he was actually touching her. The air constricted in her chest and did not come out until he had moved away. She was left still for a moment, uncertain of what had actually happened. It was the first time she had been touched by a stallion that she was not related to.

How could the Angeni explain this? By being more optimistic he simply meant turn a good thing into a bad thing. Just because people called her a monster didn't mean she had to believe their opinions on the matter. He wanted her to see that things could be seen from many different points of view. "For instance, your glowing eyes. Who says they're a sight from nightmares? What if they just radiate the warmth inside of you, and help you see at night? I would imagine they're very good for finding things in a dark place, right? And your legs. I'm sure you never grow cold, correct? A constant blaze on your body could probably keep away the chilliest of nights. When somebody speaks things of negativity about you just brush it off and say everything about me has it's purpose." He hoped that explained his thoughts well enough, for he didn't know how to put them into any better words for the mare. "I mean, look at these things," he gestured to his wings, kicking up a gust of wind as he flapped them strongly, "they're unnecessarily large and I can be quite clumsy with them at times but they take me to great heights and I get to see things from a view that many grounded souls who will never be able to see above tree tops, so I cherish them. Understand?" he smiled at her sweetly and tore his eyes from the female, not meaning to stare but he had caught himself doing so quite a few times already. He managed to keep his eyes on the river, catching sight of a few minnows here and there.

Eros had to admit to himself that he was pleasantly pleased to hear that she didn't allow such troubles to bring her down. She had other things to worry about and at least she had life going on to distract her from the worries that nagged at her brain. He found his eyes slowly drifting back towards her luring looks, but as he allowed his eyes to stick to her she eyeballed him and he quickly glanced back down at the water, playing off that he hadn't be staring intentionally, which was sort of the truth. It had been somewhat of an accident. Her question that followed began to boggle his mind though. "Mixed with something eerie?" He repeated the words as if trying to soak them in so that he could better analyze what she meant. "Well, I don't believe it works that way. When you bare children it shouldn't be for the blood and whether or not it'd be tainted. How could you be regretful when you make beautiful babies with the one your solely heart beats for?" He found that to be a difficult thing to figure out but he was quite pleased with the answer he came up with right on the spot. "If I were to have children who had extra limbs, fanged teeth and scales, I would love them all the same because they were my own and the mare that I loved... though I have yet to find such a woman who holds my heart. It'll happen one day though. I'm sure of it." He gave a positive nod, hoping she wouldn't tease him for preaching about love when he hadn't even known it himself yet. He witnessed love but never experienced it. Amelia didn't seem like the kind of girl who would mock him though, so he felt reasonably comfortable.

When he attempted to make her laugh he was caught by surprise when she actually did erupt with the most pleasant laugh he had heard in a while. It'd be like a catchy melody, somehow embedding itself into his cranium. "Ah, I see. Well, I must say that family certainly is more important that chasing stallions though one day you'll have to think of making your own family. I'm not saying that it has to be soon but one day it'll happen when you're ready for it," he smoothly spoke. "I couldn't imagine you being single forever, Amelia. I can feel that you have so much love to offer to that Mr. Right, but you just have to find him first," he encouraged her, but never intended on pushing her. Whenever he would get closer she had this look about her. This expression that told him she was lost, which made him lost in return. What was it that was confusing her? His words? Perhaps his actions? It made him sad to think that she had never received this sort of kindness before, and it only made him want to shine some more compassion on the girl.

When the attractive female admitted to not being the best judge on the matter of love he gave a small chuckle and nodded his head, "Well, as I said before, I have never known the intimate sort of love myself though I've seen it at it's best. My parents, they were as in love as two could be, and my father, he taught me my duties to showing others how beautiful true love could truly be. When it's right, it's enough to make her heart swell and you see stars and fireworks when you're near your love. My father explained to me that it's a feeling like no other and when you experience it, you'll know right away. It's the most powerful feeling in the world." He seemed gush as he got lost in his mind, daydreaming of the sensations he looked forward too. As Eros was finished with his happy words they seemed to be quickly doused by Amelia's heart breaking story and the reason she is weary of finding love. A broken heart was something that Eros had only heard of and never witnessed first hand, though what he had heard from others was it was devastating. The mare's words were causing him to grow uneasy with each and every heart shattering words that made him want to tear up. "My deepest apologizes go out to your mother for having to experience something so .... horrific, and I do hope that you find your father soon. Unrequited love it sounds like, though... I could definitely be wrong. There isn't anything more heart wrecking than that, so I've heard...." his words were slowing, becoming less silky and more hesitant. This was a conversation he wasn't used to. Sadness was a feeling he didn't often experience but life couldn't all be happiness and such. "Amelia, it's not love that fails but those who fail to cherish it. I suppose you have to respect it or risk the chance of loosing such a gift... though I must say I don't speak from experience. My instincts are all that help my reasoning, I suppose." He took a deep breathe before exhaling slowly, as if releasing all the tension in his body that difficult question had brought him in the first place.

He gave a quick side glance to see her in a rather sorrowful state of mind he made a move to comfort her. When the giant angeni leaned in he noticed the radiant female tense and freeze for a mere moment, giving him a split second to pull back and make sure she was alright. Once he was sure that this simple calming gesture wasn't going to frighten the girl, that's when he made his move to fiddle with her hair sweetly before pulling back so that she didn't have a heart attack. What was wrong? Was all this really that new to her? It made his heart ache to think so. Her words were leaving him rather pleased though. "I'm glad you didn't up and leave me now. I would be at a loss for words, or actions, or much of anything really." He chuckled softly, trying to make the best of this strange sense of timidness that had washed over him. The feeling wasn't really that familiar. He had no reason to fear the girl and yet it wasn't exactly fear he was feeling, but perhaps something similar. "I must say that I'm very pleased with your openness. Few are strong enough to be as courageous as you are... you're a good person, Amelia. I admire you," he felt the corners of his mouth curling up into a warming smile, eyes filled with adoration as he stared at her shamelessly this time. Finding a match for this girl would be his greatest challenge yet, but making her happy had just became his top priority. She deserved happiness in her life after all the sadness her and her family had been put through. He felt as though she needed somebody to help heal her, even if she wasn't broken per say.

She allowed herself time to processes what he was saying and formulate a response based on the notions running through her mind. Amelia was the type of mare who often thought before speaking, wishing to formulate answers suitable and not half baked. Her mother had always told her she was too much like her grandfather in that manner but it never seemed to bother those who she spoke to. She was just thorough and contemplative. “I do see what you mean about remaining optimistic.” She responded. “Though, my legs neither feel hot nor cold for they are mere bone and absent of nerves but I see your point.” Her eyes moved to his wings as he spoke on them and she thought of her grandfather. Though his were not nearly as feathery as Eros’ were they were still the wings of a beautiful Angeni none the less. Shaking her head lightly at the part where he said they were unnecessarily large she observed them. “They are beautiful, the sign of a true Angeni. Meant to soothe the pains of others and provide with a distinction of the breed.” She had always adored the wings of the Angeni and though hers were half they still were not full and gorgeous like his. “Though, again, you have made a clear and valid point. I shall keep that in mind in future encounters.” She said with a small smile.

She quirked hidden brows at his reaction when her eyes once again found him but didn’t press the matter for she listened to him speak of bloodlines and the like. “I understand couples happily bringing young forth into the world regardless of the race but I was just curious as to what a full blooded Angeni would think of one of his breeding with something rather frightening. You have answered my question well though.” He was an accepting stallion and she liked that. Not many would look with a mind so open at something like her. At times she would hear others whispering about how she was the perfect waste of Angeni wings or Angeni blood and it had gotten her to thinking about the race part of the argument. After hearing him speak of such strange children her eyes fell to the ground and she allowed for a humorless laugh to pass through her maw. “You and their mother may love them regardless of their appearance but…what if they cannot love themselves? Not to say you should not be with and breed with the one you love but I find it an interesting question.” With that she looked back up at him, her eyes full of knowing. Though her mother loved her she often had felt the need to hide out in a dark space for she hated being looked at as though she were strange. “You will make a great father.” She added, as though worried she would offend him with her last question.

His confidence in finding love had her heart sinking ever so slightly. If she were to breed with another would they be as happy with her as he would with his future mate? She was not so certain there would be a stallion around for her, after all, her father had left her mother and she was the most gorgeous thing Amelia had ever seen. “Your confidence in the emotion is inspiring. Where do you draw it from?” She asked in earnest. When he spoke of her creating a family she looked away, focusing her gaze on a tree far off in the distance. “A family of flaming hooves and glowing eyes.” She giggled. Knowing her children, if she had any, would perhaps have to go through what she had sent shivers down her spine. Her eyes again met with his when he spoke of the love she had to offer. “How do you know? What if I never learn the true value of love?” She was not upset and she did not raise her voice but there was a somewhat hopeless lilt in it.
Closing her eyes she listened to his description of what love felt like and what good it would bring into the lives of those it touched. Though she believed there was a good to every bad she still worried about love. She did not want to be left like her mother, a mare constantly in search of the one she loves. “It sounds wonderful…though…I wonder how often it truly happens.” Her mind was always at work, weaving a web and attempting to fill in the spaces with answers. She enjoyed learning and hearing the opinions of others so she enjoyed asking questions. Her eyes opened when he spoke of her mother and she grinned. “I am not sure I want her to find him…I cannot decide what is more heartbreaking. Holding out hope that he is somewhere out there, shedding tears of his own for her or finding him with a new love and family. Either way, my father shall have to deal with me.” At that last statement the flames on her legs burned higher and brighter as her strong emotions of anger and resentment toward her father fed the fires. With a deep breath in she calmed the fires and listened to him finish his discussion on love. “Your instincts make sense so it is only natural that you continue to follow them.” She said with a smile, feeling rather bad after allowing her emotions to get to her only seconds before. Normally she was quite composed and delicate.

“I find this conversation quite worth my while and the company is rather nice as well so I am content to remain here with you.” His comment on her openness had her feeling a swell of pride and she straightened her posture. “I come from a long line of Knights, both mares and stallions so I attempt to remain courageous and true.” She said in a confident tone. Her expression softened as he said he admired her. Who would admire her? A conflicted little thing that didn’t really belong anywhere? But he did. “I thank you for that.” She said with a warm smile.

It was complimenting to think that Amelia thought well on his response but part of him was a bit unsatisfied to find that it wasn't the precise answer she had been searching for. The girl seemed to surprise him with her next formulation of a deep insightful question. What if they didn't love themselves? Well, why wouldn't they love themselves or their life if brought up with much love and hidden from harmful talk of hatred on things you just can't explain. "I don't understand this question, Amelia..." he simply put it, giving a slightly discouraged look. It wasn't often that he found himself confused and when he did he was quite embarrassed. He had a feeling that it was tied back to her, though. "Do you not love yourself, Amelia?" His voice had grown soft and empathetic for the girl, his heart throbbing slightly at the thought that such a girl would not be proud of who she was.

Her new words sent a gentle smile to his lips, spreading like wild fire across his face. "Ah, I've grown up in a family where love was a lifestyle. My father taught me much of what I know, though... there are just some things that can't be taught..." he started with confidence but ended on a rather mellow note. To learn how to truly love you had to be taught by the one teacher who was perfect for you. Your soul mate. "Everybody has the ability... the trick is coming to find the right person to teach it to you..." he offered up another warming smile. His smile seemed to falter when she asked how often true love truly does occur. "Well, that's why I take it upon myself to assist those in need. You see, Amelia. I'm a genuine matchmaker... of sorts..." He gives off a light and fluffy chuckle before eying her, wondering how much of a challenge it might be to match her with somebody. Not hard at all he suspected.

She sparked something inside of him. Something that felt new and exciting, and the poor unknowing male mistook the unfamiliar sensation as wanting to overcome this challenge that was presented to him. Little did he know it was something much deeper than that. "Your upset with your father... that's understandable, but perhaps you should hear his side of the story before you doubt his affections for your mother. Love can cause us to do many funny things..." he gave a gentle nod before locking eyes with the girl as she thanked him for his admiration. "You're most welcome. You're quite an interesting girl. Interesting and beautiful, a very desired combination." He gave a slow nod before turning his eyes back down to the running water. He was running out of things to think about other than the fact that this girl had many beautiful qualities to her.

Amelia scoffed ever so slightly at his latest question, how could she love herself? She had done nothing but cause pain to those around her. Rather than going on and on about how her flames burned her mother from the inside out when she was born she merely shrugged her dark shoulders, causing the small bits of armor and her neck to tinkle. “I love myself as much as I can I suppose.” She caught the empathy in his tone and flicked her tail ever so slightly. “Do not feel bad for me Eros, I am alive and that is all that matters.” She finished with a small smile. Her conversation was still awkward and cold but, then again, she hadn’t had much experience talking with others in the past. This was her first conversation where someone wasn’t calling her a beast or desiring to run away from her. “Thank you for entertaining my strange notions, it is very kind of you.” She bowed her head slightly in gratitude.

A gentle and tender laugh escaped her maw at his next statement. “Of course, it would make sense that the only Angeni to approach me would be the Angeni of Love.” She continued to laugh a moment, thinking about the irony of the concept. Her mother had been chewed up and spit out by love and if anyone loved Amelia that had yet to show it. Even her own family acted as though she would burn them if they touched her, sadly, it was true. “Mmmm.” She thought for a moment on his statement about finding the one to teach you. “What if they all run?” She mumbled, not really meaning it as a question to him but more of a question to herself. Shaking her head and causing her dark curls to splay over her neck she looked into his eyes once more. “A matchmaker? You run around helping others find the one?” What an interesting thing to learn. He would wander around pairing other Soquili up, showing them love. “Interesting. How will you match yourself up?”

She took a deep breath or two before speaking on the matter of her father once more; regaining the composure she had lost. “His side doesn’t really matter to me. If he loved her he would not have left her behind, taking my sibling while still in wicker.” Turning away from him she looked skyward. “He could have at least told her he was leaving or that he didn’t love her anymore. Then she wouldn’t be constantly wondering…She could have moved on with her life by now.” Turning back around she gave him an easy smile, demonstrating that she had fully calmed herself. She laughed at his compliment but nodded graciously anyways. “You forgot to mention on fire.” She added.
