Three had slipped out of the tent and into the fog, she glanced left and right for Eight but couldn't see him in the heavy mist. "Eight!" She hissed lowly - unsure of what might be lurking in the fog. Her hand rested lightly on the stake as she edged along the tent wall "where did you go?!?" She said a bit louder hoping that he could hear her and would reveal his presence.

In the mean time she eyed the pink blur in the distance - It had the vague shape of another tent but she couldn't be entirely sure from here - and were they in a cornfield? Seriously...a cornfield?

E-13 was not feeling as confident as he'd sounded back in the tent. Sure, it sounded easy in theory. Stab first, stab some more, and keep stabbing until you were sure they couldn't stab back.

But he couldn't really remember stabbing someone to death before.

Now that he was away from the group a little, he could admit that his strategy might be lacking in certain key aspects. It didn't account for getting stabbed back, for instance.

But sure enough, just like he'd thought...there was a lone Blue Team guy, mucking around in the corn with nobody else in sight. He flipped his knife over into a more stab-friendly position. ...Then back to underhand. A quick slit throat would be easier, right? What had E-10 said, video games? Think Splinter Cell. And....and.................go.

Go.

E-13 just crouched in the corn guiltily instead.

[Entering Beta Scouting Thread]

Man, so this was what a cornfield was like. It was hell to go through! She followed E-13 through the cornfields, fumbling around with her armor. Weird armor was weird. She was fine with this so far. Nothing was happening...though the fact that nothing was happening was kind of unnerving. "This place is weird. Do you have any idea why we're here? Because I totally don't remember. Do you think they meant it when they told us death is permanent?" Why would she agree to something like that? It just didn't click. Did she have a reason? She...couldn't remember why she would agree to anything like that. This was basically suicide!

Suddenly E-13 was moving weird and she ducked as well beside him, grabbing her gun and holding it tightly. What's wrong? Was someone there? Oh! Someone was there! And by themselves? Weird... "What should we do?" She whispered, staring intently at the other team member.

[Entering Beta Scouting Thread]

Navigating the cornfield was trickier than E-1 had anticipated. Shoving her way through the thick stalks, she was glad for the first time that her team was wearing bright pink. It made keeping track of her team-mates a lot easier. E-1 caught a glimpse of pink, and headed towards it, switching a few rows as she went, and trying to keep low. Seeing team-mates was all well and good, but what if there were other teams out here? What if she ran into a bunch that had already killed people? And here she was without immediate support from her team.

Feeling paranoid, E-1 jogged the last few yards to the pink beacon of safety, and crouched down beside them.

"Oh god. E-13, quit playing with your dagger." she hissed at the boy, voice muffled by the gas mask. It was weird. He'd seemed so eager in the tent. He was acting downright... reluctant right now. "I vote we watch her for right now. What if there's a whole mess more of them a few corn rows back? They'd be on us like fat kids on cake if you just ran out there. We're scouting, so let's... scout."

[E-4 Entering Beta Scouting Thread]

Despite the slight headstart that the other two had, E-4 managed to follow them by focusing on the bits of bright pink armor that E-10 had on. We really do stand out in this color, she thought with a grimace, her gaze flickering quickly down to her own armor, But it's not really as if we could take these off. Maybe if we could cover them with somethin--

She nearly collided into the other three when they suddenly stopped. What was going on? Before she could voice her question, she caught sight of the person in the distance--someone who was decked in blue, just like the tent that they had seen--and she quickly ducked down.

"Scouting...that seems like a good idea, she whispered, nodding her agreement. "As long as we can assure that no one else is around, I...I guess that one of you could go and..." And kill the blue scout. E-4 had trailed off, unable to bring herself to say it.

E-13 stopped, suddenly, putting his knife out of E-1's line of sight.

"We aren't scouting," he whispered defensively, "That guy's scouting. And in a second, he's gonna see how far it's getting him." Yeah. Any second now.

"....So one of you go do it."

[E-8 is entering the Beta Scout Thread]

It was just a light joke at first, but to finally step out of the tent and jump in to the game, it really did feel like some sort of horror move. The corn, the fog, the fact that he could barely see anything in front of him unless he concentrated, and damn it the shades of pink weren't helping, it was no joke now. One wrong move and he could be dead, and that fact had his heart pumping and his senses on edge.

With slowly and silent steps, E-8 followed the path that he was sure the others ahead of him had taken. And what do you know, he was right. There was no way he could miss those voices.

Walking up to the group, he stared with a raised brow.

"What's going on now?" he whispered. "Is someone chickening out? I thought we came out to find a safer place to call our base, not question killing someone who might not even be the only one out here. For all we know he or she has back up and they might be watching us."

[E-7 is entering the Beta Scout Thread]

E-7 sighed, this game felt.... almost ridiculous, he was sweeping the area moving slow, debilitate trying to watch all sides of him. When he caught up with the others. Looking at the lone figure in blue, it matched that tent that they could sorta see.

E-7 paused thinking. "Should we flank 'em?" He asked softly looking at the others, "We could take that one by surprise, maybe the rest of their tent is a ways behind them. See how many there are?"

He shifted slightly turning to watch their backs. "We could at least watch the other directions too." He muttered suddenly. There was enough of them. They didn't have to all look forward did they?

Good point! E-1 immediately turned so she was keeping an eye on the area to the group's left. There didn't seem to be any blue bits flitting amidst the cornstalks. So far, so good.

"Nothing to the left." she reported, feeling military and ridiculous at the same time. "If a few people went around her, and tried to see if there are any more coming, we could surround her, and... You know, I bet they have 13 people, too."

She rushed that last part out mostly to cover her trepidation at contemplating killing the girl, but when she said it, she thought it had to be true.

"Think about it, they've probably put thirteen people into each team. If thirteen people are all who can survive, the teams will work together to make sure their thirteen will be the ones."

"You know, if they haven't noticed us by now in our amazingly pink suits," Her words were dripping with sarcasm by the time she got to the armor color. Whose idea was this?! Pink armor? Were they trying to get them killed!? Oh, wait. They were. Crap. "They'll notice us moving you know. Corn isn't exactly quiet..." E-Ten frowned and turned back to the blue scout they were watching.

"Corn may not be the most quiet and stone still thing on the planet, but neither are whispers especially when it is dead silent outside. So either someone has to go over and kill the person, so we need to shut up and get moving before they notice us and call back up."

Really, at this point E-8 just wanted to get moving to a safer place rather than risk someone getting killed this early on. Better to play and safe and stay alive that try to be a man and kill someone just to know he has the guts to.

"You do know technically we only have 12 at the moment, right? Before I left I noticed one bag was untouched... I think we are missing someone, but hopefully they show up soon."
PostPosted: Sat Apr 02, 2011 11:41 pm

E-4's head jerked up and she swerved to look at E-8. "Was someone else still sleeping?" Crap, with everything going on, she had been too absent-minded to notice. "What if we move on before they wake up? We can't just leave them behind...right?" Honestly, the only reason she was relatively calm was because she was surrounded by other people. If she had woken up in an empty room and had been forced to face all of this alone, it would have been a completely different story.

When she turned back to look at the other team's scout, she knit her brows together uneasily. "Do we...do we have to kill them?" she blurted out, trying to keep her voice low, "They haven't done anything to us yet, and what if this whole 'only thirteen of you will survive' thing is a lie?" What if they were just being pitted against each other for some stupid experiment or something? Again, she was faltering between accepting this situation and questioning it. "Besides, while we're out here, we do need to scout the area too. Find out where we are, where to go next, and so on."

[E-12 Entering Beta Scouting Party Thread!]

E-12 was breathless by the time she’d caught up. The damned gasmask and the damned fog! The girl clutched at her chest and fought for air. She didn’t want to announce her presence to her teammates before she got control of the situation. There was no use revealing a weakness to them, not this early in the game.

The final few metres of her approach were taken at a stealthy tiptoe. The group had clearly spotted something in the distance and E-12 didn’t want to be the one to give away their location. She listened to the last few snippets of conversation before piping in.

“What if they’re just bait? Some sort of trap for us?” It was a long shot, E-12 knew that. But if they could see the blue tent front across the cornfield, then surely the occupants of that tent could see their’s. The pink practically glowed.

The thought of bloodshed sickened E-12, but if it had to happen, and it really seemed like it had to happen, she would much rather it be blue blood spilled than pink. She pulled her knife from her pack and held it loosely in her fist.

"...Maybe Twelve is right. They're not even doing anything, and it's obvious we're here by now." She frowned, suddenly not liking the feeling of this. This was stupid. If it was so obvious they were here why were they still whispering and trying to hide? They might as well just come out into the open and take out the bait so they could take on whoever was putting up the trap, right? There were a lot of them, there couldn't possibly be more people on one team than the other?

Suddenly her cell phone vibrated and she gasped, stumbling forward a little and catching herself with a hand against the back of Thirteen's head. What? Who was contacting her now? E-Ten dug the phone out of her back and checked the message, blinking a bit. Pendants? What was less than five? Three? Four? Two? One? How..unhelpful. But it was clear they needed to find these pendants somehow. Had anyone else gotten the message? She didn't want to ask in case they didn't, but it'd be nice to know if they did. "Maybe..we should move on. It's clear that person's not doing anything..." And leaving would give them a better chance at getting the pendants. Guaranteed survival with a pendant? Of course she wanted one! But there was less than five meaning she had a feeling even her own team could possibly turn against her to get one.

She'd have to turn against them before they turned against her.

E-12’s hand flew to the phone at her waist at the same time E-10 reached for her’s. So, they were receiving the same messages. E-12 flipped her phone open and scanned the new text on her screen. Two words stood out to her, almost pulsating in their brilliance. Guarantee. Survival. She needed a pendant, and fast.

“I, for one, don’t want to step willingly into a trap. Even if we know it’s there, we can’t be sure we’ll avoid it. There could be twelve other people waiting in the corn for us right now.” The thought hadn't actually occurred to her until this very moment. E-12 swung her head around and focused her pink-tinged vision into the stalks.

Come to think of it, a pendant could be hidden in the corn stalks, too. She continued her search, but more discreetly. A pendant would make you a much more appealing target. Having one on day seven would guarantee her survival, but the trick would be making it until then.

“I think,” she said hesitantly. “I think this message isn’t as good as it seems. We have to make it to the seventh day for the pendant to work, right? Well, if we’ve already made it to day seven, we’ve basically already won! We need to keep our focus on what’s important here.”

That wasn’t to say E-12 would let up on her search.
