They had drifted towards the undead dorms, instead of the demon ones, as if by mutual, unspoken agreement. The plague doctor opened the door for her, stepping quietly into the front foyer. Everything seemed quieter than usual... it supposed not that many students had filtered back into the dorms yet.
And then the barking started. A high-pitched, frantic, yet joyful yelping that made Malodore hurry its steps. "Luce!" it called out as it ascended the stairs, pulling Riley along with it. "Luce tresorina!"
The barking increased in frequency the closer they got to Malodore's door, until finally... a soft, white mist curled out from under said door. For a moment it hung there, as if disoriented - and then in the next blink Luce was there, paws skidding on the smooth floor until she slid into Malodore's legs. She jumped up in sheer joy on plague doctor and mindflayer both, greeting them (mostly) equally.
"There, there, tresorina," Malodore soothed, opening its beak in a smile and crouching to pick her up. She squirmed so much, licking at its mask, that it could barely hold her to its chest. "Ci sei mancato troppo."
Somewhere, under the happy barks and licks, it registered that Luce had evidently learned a new trick... but now was the time for greetings. It could analyze how Luce had gotten through that solid door later.

Everything felt just a little odd, a little out of sorts. Would the effects of their trip, and all the horrors they had seen, ever truly fade? Even the quiet of the undead dorms had her on edge, almost as if she had to wonder when their next hallucination would come.
Or if this was all one giant hallucination itself.
Her grip in Malodore's hand was tight, and she found solace and strength in it more than anything. When it began to rush up the steps, her brooding thoughts were pushed to the side. A steady excitement grew, which culminated as she watched the mist seeping out of Malodore's dorm. Her head slowly tilted to one side, clearly impressed with Luce's ability to overcome any obstacle in her way. Luce's hyper twitching as she bounced between the two made Riley giggle - and oh, what a tremendously inappropriate sound it was. Her eyes were thin, high crescents in lieu of the brightest of smiles, and she rested her head on Malodore's shoulder while the puppy attacked it with love. She couldn't help but reach out and pet Luce lovingly while the pup continued her tirade on Malodore's mask.
It's so good to see her. She whispered in a quiet, emotional thought.

Very shortly, Luce had exhausted herself in happiness - instead of squirming everywhere, she settled for draping herself across Malodore's shoulder, paws dangling. The plague doctor chuckled and patted her. "Whoever took care of her fed her well," it noted. "I'm glad of that, at least."
The doorway opened easily at Malodore's touch, and it took a deep breath as it walked through the door. It all smelled so wonderfully familiar. So much like... like home, in a way that it had never been before now. It carefully pulled Luce down and put her on the floor; she immediately begged up on Riley for attention.
"I... am ready to sleep for a good while," it announced, shaking out its coat. A small rain of sand followed the movement, much to Malodore's dismay, and it was abruptly aware of just how sandy, bloody, and downright stinky it was. It could only assume Luce was so happy to see them that scent didn't matter? "... ugh. But I need clean bandages first. And clean flesh underneath. And clean everything." It shifted uncomfortably; now that it had noticed, it was highly displeased and a little embarrassed at its own state.

Riley was reminded of her own pets, and wondered idly if anyone tried to feed her Cthulhu while she was gone.
She was not looking forward to cleaning up a pile of bodies when she got back to her down.
Luce's sudden scampering at her feet did not go unnoticed - and she was immediately scooped up into Riley's arms for some much needed cuddling. Lacking any proper mouth, Riley just let the poor pup ravage her face in licks without really batting an eye at the attention.
You think you need clean everything. Do you know how many times I was hurled into that sea? Look, my bathing suit has become part of my skin. She reached to her shoulder with one arm, and tried to tug the strap off - it made an audible sound as it tried to stick to her skin. It's dreadful. Not to mention all the dirt. She turned around, as if trying to see the back of her own jacket - which was not drenched in dirt, but blood. She couldn't yet see it - though the tentacle damage that had caused it was now fully healed, save for one long green scar. My jacket is ruined, isn't it.

"Oh, merde-" Malodore swore, suddenly reminded of the damage to Riley's tentacle. It had, to its horror and shame, completely forgotten about it... "Your tentacles! Do you feel okay?" it asked, anxiously. Its claws clacked against each other with the urge to just... go for it and find the damaged one itself, but it held itself back.

Riley hadn't really forgotten about her injuries, but when she'd reformed at school it was pretty clear that everything was healed. She lifted all of her tentacles at once, and inspected them with little interest. Oh, yes. They're fine. I suppose you don't have to cut this one off after- Her head tilted as she saw the green scar, one brow rising. -..all. Huh. That's strange.
Her tentacles dropped back down behind her, and she turned around to face Malodore again. Two steps in, and she stood in front of it, with half of a pup in her arms - the other half had burrowed it's ways almost completely into her chest. Cheeky thing, that's not a digging hole.
Well, all that matters is that they're fine now. The offending tentacle, and a few of the others that had been injured, all rose and wrapped around Malodore's shoulders. See? Nothing to worry about.

"Ah... va bene," Malodore said, with relief. "Still, I should have treated it sooner, then perhaps..." It looked guiltily at the scar tissue evident on the tentacle.
Luce squirmed and lapped at Riley's cheek. Tasted salty!

Riley gave Luce a nuzzle, before plucking her out and letting her back down on the floor. I think we had more important things to worry about. Riley quipped with weak amusement as she straightened up. Like, staying alive. Or failing that. The amusement fled from her eyes at the last few words, but it remained in her voice. She took a steadying breath, and reached up to pat the side of it's beak softly.

"Si, I suppose that's true." It nuzzled lightly at her hand, then winced again as the movement made its old, sand-clogged bandages rasp at the nape of its neck. "A bath, yes... the usual sponge bath won't do, I fear. It will need to be under the shower taps, I think."
"... do you want to come with?" it asked, then, giving Riley an almost shy sidelong glance.
Luce thumped her tail against the floor.
"Non tu, sciocco," it added, poking its tail at the little pup affectionately.

Riley, by nature, was anything but shy. She didn't seem to see any issue with the idea. She dropped her backpack to the floor and nodded. You have no idea. I feel like I could take twelve baths, and I still would not feel clean. That look she was given, however, was quite endearing, and it made her smile. And you're all right with me joining you? She bumped her face gently into it's beak, then followed it's gaze down to Luce as she thumped for attention.
Oh, you wouldn't want to come anyway. By the time the water got down to your level, after being on us? It will be filthy. Ugh. The last thing Luce's pretty white coat needed was a dose of dirty water on it.

Luce whined and put her ears back... but her still-thumping tail gave awasy her true feelings. "Torneremo presto, te lo prometto," it said, bending down to scratch under Luce's chin. The pup leaned into the scratch, then barked once and jumped up onto the foot of Malodore's bed.. the covers of which were now entirely askew and showing signs of some small white-furred beastie having tunneled through them at some point. Naturally.
"I don't want you to leave," Malodore said, turning back to Riley, still ducking its head bashfully. "And I want to bathe. The logical solution is clearly asking you to come along, is it not?"

Once Malodore had turned back to her, acting bashful around her, she couldn't help but tease. She was terrible like that. It is. I would have come to the same conclusion, I assure you. I was only asking to be sure. Her tentacles lifted to drape around it, lounging. One of them reached up and plucked the hat off it's head, placing it on her own. I can't promise I'll be good though. I'm really a terrible person, deep down inside. You don't know what you've signed yourself up for, falling in love with me. I should probably apologize. She tried very hard not to snicker.

A small shower of sand fell out of the hat when Riley moved it, the grains tumbling down Malodore's mask and bouncing off its beak. "I suppose I'm not in a position to protest, am I?" it said, wry amusement in its voice even as it leaned forward to grab fruitlessly at its hat. "Let me get a fresh set of bandages and my things."
It walked over to its sleeping nook, opening the closet and taking out a small bag, filling said bag with the aforementioned bandages, along with a sponge, its soap, and all the towels it possessed. Luce wagged her tail at it but stayed on the bed. "My supplies are quite basic, I'm afraid. If you are looking for a mud mask and sea cucumber slices for your eyes, you've chosen the wrong plague doctor to adore," it said, teasing lightly in response.

Riley disentangled herself when it moved away to grab it's supplies; but she kept the hat. Her tentacle smoothed the rim with it's tip. Her eyes flittered to one side when movement caught her attention, and her eyes crescented slightly at Luce sitting on the bed - why, why was that pup so heart-crushingly precious - before returning her gaze to the returning Malodore. Her face crunched up slightly up at it while she peeled her jacket off her shoulders and let it drop to the floor. It sounded squishier than it should have - ew. She turned around and picked it up, inspecting it with a wince.
Where.. can I put this, so it doesn't mess up your room any further than my presence already has? She asked, holding it slightly away from her with two fingers. Her other hand, however, wrapped around it's waist and pulled it close. In thinly veiled seriousness, she whispered quietly. Also, I assure you, I chose the right plague doctor to adore.

"I never did understand the mud... or the cucumbers," Malodore said with a mock sigh. "Or, rather, I understand their uses in a strictly intellectual sense, but that is all."
It quickly checked its bag to make sure it had everything. "There are shower facilities on the next floor up. Nothing truly private, but given the silence I doubt we'll have competition for a while." Of course, once everyone got back... well, the lower floors were more crowded, and there could well be spillover from the lower-floor zombies as the other bathrooms reached capacity.
"Shall we?"
