Skek, the more Melon grows the more I think he's got Whippet in him. He runs EXACTLY like a sighthound, its eerie.

Savage Destiny Skek, the more Melon grows the more I think he's got Whippet in him. He runs EXACTLY like a sighthound, its eerie. If by eerie you mean awesome... wink How many inches is he at the shoulder? He does look super sighthoundy in the legs and body. I just went and looted my stash of lurcher pics and found a bunch of pitXgreyhounds that resemble him quite a bit. It isn't an uncommon cross either. This one in particular:

Holy crap Skek! Some of those look SOOO much like Melon... I can see parts of him in every one! Wow.
I just measured him, he's 25" at the shoulder.

25" is bang on in the height range expected for that cross also, he might have whippet in him but you could pretty much rule out him being a first cross pitXwhippet as they don't generally make it over 23" and usually aren't as leggy as what he is. But comparing him to those pics makes pitXgreyhound seem a very real possibility. xd

But we do have a ton of Whippets around here. Actually I occasionally toy with the idea that he's part Ibizan, since we have an Ibizan breeder here who is not very responsible with his dogs. xD

Actually I occasionally toy with the idea that he's part Ibizan, since we have an Ibizan breeder here who is not very responsible with his dogs. xD Ibizan could explain those ears. whee I've only ever seen them crossed with greys and staghounds to create longdogs but I imagine a pitXibizan would not look entirely unlike a pitXgrey. Greyhounds that are adopted out through a program or rescue are always altered but many retired greys bypass the adoption route and go straight from their racing owners to people who want them for other reasons. Ex race bitches moreso than dogs, and such greys generally aren't treated like pets and given the opportunity to socialise and meet people. I had never met an ex racing grey that hadn't been adopted through GAP or a shelter/rescue [seriously, someone could have asked me how many were kicking around and I would have said very very few, if any] until I started talking to people who kept working running dogs...and then I met a lot! The turnover and supply of unwanted greys is unbelievable and sad. [/soapbox] You should get some video of him running and turning sometime. wink He looks as though he could really shift if he felt like it. How old is he now?

He's about a year and three months, Skek.
I would like to get a video of him running. Unfortunately he mostly just jogs or trots, he hardly ever runs full out. The only times he ever runs flat out are when someone holds him and I walk away, then he'll haul a** to get to me when he's let go.
