Sciuri
Sciuri managed to sleep through her aunt leaving the den, and her mother, and finally her father and siblings. The night before had been a pretty exhausting thing for her, all things told. She'd managed to sneak out of the den after everyone else was asleep and go of on a solo adventure. She hadn't really expected to have a real adventure beyond the simple act of sneaking out, but in the end it had turned out to be a real adventure, where she met someone new and different and everything. They were supposed to meet up again in four days, and she couldn't wait, even though she now knew how exhausting it would be for her.

When she finally stirred it was full daylight and she thought she might be alone in the den. She was relieved, because she needed a little more time to come up with a reason for why she was so tired and sleepy. It would have to be better than a simple, "I was tired." She was rarely that tired, and her family would be concerned that she was ill or something. And then one of them would have to stay with her until she showed signs of recovering, and that might make her miss her next date with Ruzanski.

Aylin
Aylin hadn't slept through that, unfortunately. Her aunt leaving, that is. That's when she was up and about, and she woke her mother and father up, trying to get them to get breakfast early because she was really hungry. They did, and all the cubs left some for Sciuri for when she woke up. However, she didn't want to venture out into the heat of the day, so she chose to stay in the den with her sister and make sure she was ok. Aylin wasnt really paying attention to her sister right now, day dreaming about a life as a rabbit.

What it would be like to hop around and eat grasses and the sheer terror of some lion or other big animal chasing you down. When her thoughts turned to the bad things, she pictured herself as a bird, soaring high above everything. The freedom she felt was overwhelming and made her snap back to reality. Finally, she heard her sister start moving around and she turned to look at her, tilting her head. "Good morning. There's some baby zebra left for you."

Sciuri
Aylin's words probably should have caught Sciuri by surprise and startled her, but she was used to her sister's ability to keep her peace and then come out with some sort of statement, either relevant or irrelevant, that seemed to come from out of the blue. She couldn't always follow Aylin's thoughts, but at the moment she was being very relevant. There was some baby zebra left for her. And Sciuri was very interested.

"Wonderful. Thanks," Iuri exclaimed, moving enthusiastically toward breakfast. She was not going to pretend to be sick.

Her muzzle was bloodied with the remains of baby zebra and her stomach was quite full by the time she looked up at her paler sister. She smiled and began licking the blood from her chin and muzzle. It hadn't been her most graceful action to date, but she was hungry. Being awake for so long the day before had taken more out of her than she'd anticipated.

"So, what're your plans for the day?" she asked.

Aylin
Aylin let her darker sister eat in quiet and peace, knowing that she was out late. Oh, yes, Aylin knew. She was a light sleeper most of the time, but she chose not to say anything. Her sister would tell her when she was ready. Those golden eyes didn't even focus on her sister until she spoke. Ears perked, she turned and watched the other clean herself up before rolling her shoulders in a very lazy shrug. "I haven't the faintest idea yet, Irui. I wanted to go to the river and watch the fish swim about."

Ah, how quickly an idea could strike.

"Would you like to come with me and lean to swim with the fish? Only in the shallow waters momma marked."

She was such a do-gooder when it came to listening to what their parents said. At the same time, she knew when to keep her mouth shut when her siblings didn't even tell her to. Like now.

Sciuri
"I don't know how to swim like a fish," Iuri admitted, her eyes lighting up. "But I would definitely like to learn."

She was already thinking about how she could maybe show it to Ruzanski the next time they met. She didn't know if he could swim or not, but if he couldn't, then she could teach him and that would be fun. He had seemed so sure and confident and good at everything, she wanted to be able to do something to impress him, so that they could keep seeing each other. It would be nice to have a friend outside of the family, maybe.

"Hey, Aylin, can you keep a secret?"

She really had to tell someone. It wasn't wise, she knew, but she wasn't used to keeping secrets. If she didn't tell someone, she felt like she would burst. Her parents would be concerned and probably unhappy about how she'd met Ruzanski, and how little she knew about him. Gliri...it was hard to tell. And she didn't know how far she could trust her other siblings.

Aylin
Aylin gave her a cryptic smile, completely out of the ordinary for the sweet one.

"Of course, sister. I've kept many secrets." Sibling secrets, mainly. Mother and father didn't talk about their sercrets, and if they did, they talked to each other before the whole den woke up. Or right after everyone was asleep. Pale paws dug into the den floor as she stretched out and came up next to her sister, licking a few spots she missed and then laid next to her.

"Tell me what you want to and I won't tell a soul!" It seemed this was one of her good days.

Sciuri
"Let's walk," Iuri suggested moments after her sister laid down.

It wasn't that she was trying to be a pain, but she did want to see about swimming, and she definitely did not want to be in the den still when a family member came around. That wouldn't be much fun to explain. She still didn't know how to explain it, anyway. Better not to be there. Besides, then she could share her secret without fear of being overheard.

"So," she said as they started walking. "Last night I sneaked out of the den. I was going to have an adventure. I met someone while I was out."

She left the sentence dangling, a temptation for Aylin to ask for more. There was a bit of the storyteller in Gliri's niece.

Aylin
Of course she walked with her sister. Getting up after just laying down was no big deal, not like someof her siblings throught it was. She flicked her tail a little bit as she walked with her sister towards the water. Golden eyes focused on different things as she walked, waiting for her sister to start talking. Aylin guessed that she wanted to get a good distance away before she started spilling secrets. If Aylin had one, that's what she would do!

Then she spoke and her eyebrows rose to the top of her head. It wasn't that she had met someone, it was that this someone, apparently, a boy. That was her conclusion. A lazy smile came from those lips as she let a laugh bubble up and spill over. "I'm not laughing at you. I bet it was a boy, wasn't it? This other you met...."

Putting two and two together was easy for her. It surprised her siblings a lot.

Sciuri
Sciuri wasn't disappointed that Aylin had guessed at her having met a boy. It meant that she would have to change the manner of her storytelling a little, but it certainly didn't spoil the story as a whole, even if it did mean that she wouldn't get to surprise her. That was okay. Aylin was pretty hard to surprise, anyway. Iuri had decided to interpret it as a triumph that she had managed to get her to react at all, with those raised eyebrows.

Iuri's answering grin was wicked. "It was a boy. He's about our age, I think. At least, he was definitely bigger than me, and he looks more like a grown-up. He's less...round than Lua is."

He also had the most startling green eyes and a way of grinning that made her shiver if she thought about it too long. Something about him was undeniably dangerous, and thus fascinating.

"He was out exploring on his own. His family didn't know that he'd even left, let alone how far he'd gone."

Aylin
So her bigger sister was in love? That was so cute! I not love, then a crush. Aylin was all about love and the good feelings it brought, the friendship you earned, the trust. It was a LOT of responsibility. She wouldn't fall in love until much, much later in life, if ever. That much responsiblity scared the pale girl. She bit down on her lip as she listened to the way her sister described this boy. Oh, yes. definately, at least, a crush. A smile spread across her lips again as she shfited to tap her hip against Sciuri's.

"Iuri.. that is most wonderful! How far had he gone? What does he look like?" She tilted her head to the side as she asked these questions. This is what she did with their aunts stories, and if Icuri wanted to tell a story, why not treat her the same? For being such an air head, when she was interested, she was logical and wanted detail.

Sciuri
"Um. I don't really know. But since I don't think any of the grown-ups have mentioned there being another family living anywhere nearby, it had to be pretty far, right?"

Sciuri found it hard to believe that her family wouldn't know about another family in the area, and that they wouldn't be acquainted. Particularly if the other family had cubs their age. Even if Aunt Gliri was shy, Mum and Dad sure weren't, and they would have made sure their cubs met the other cubs.

"He said that at night he explores the lands around the den, picking a new direction each night so that he'll know them all completely." She wasn't telling this very well. It was all in pieces and parts, and that wasn't how it was supposed to be.

"He's all black, I think, except for his eyes, which are very green, and he moves so quietly I wouldn't haven known he was there at all except the wind carried his scent to me. It scared me at first, because I didn't know he was just a cub like us, and I was afraid I'd run into someone like the bad guys in Aunt Gliri's stories."

Actually, thinking about it Ru wouldn't do badly at all, cast in that role.

Aylin
Aylin could forgive the choppiness of the 'story' bcause she had forgotten it herself! Now she was just fishing for details. Black with green eyes? This boy didn't sound familiar at all. Biting on the inside of her cheek, Aylin pondered a bit, forgetting her sister's questions right now. If she was getting this excited over a boy, was she supposed to be, too? Maybe he had a brother or something. The poor pale girl felt alien enough in her own den. No one really understood her

Then the last words caught her attention. Like a bad guy in Aunt Gliri's stories? Mercy, that wasn't something she would want to feel. "I am surprised that isn't how you remember him. I mean, if he would have scared me that bad, that's all I would think about...." Basically, Aylin wouldn't give the one who scared her the time of day. It just seemed logical to turn tail and never look back. "I will have to meet this...." She paused, searching for a name for him, "this..... boy you met."

Sciuri
"Well, he didn't scare me that badly," Sciuri said. "Just a little, and only because I didn't really think I'd run into anyone."

She shrugged, hoping she didn't seem too silly. Aunt Gliri was a better storyteller, Iuri realized with a start. Much better. She'd always thought that she might follow her in that, but clearly there was a lot she still needed to work on as far as that skill set went. She was draing Aylin's attention to all the wrong parts of the story. It was supposed to be about how exciting it was to meet someone new, and how interesting he had been.

"I think you'd like him. Ruzanski is his name he said. He's a bit odd. Kind of like you. Good-odd."

Aylin
Good odd? Aylin didn't aware there was such a thing. But she didn't think of herself as odd. She figured she just moved at a different speed than the rest. Gold eyes glassed over as she nearly got lost in her thoughts.

Gliri was a better story teller, but that was because she had more years experiance. Aylin would say just as much to her sister if she would just ask.

The continued talking snapped her back to attention with a start and a silent gasp. Wait. There was no words spoken, so what.. Oh, right. "Ru? His name is certainly a mouthful isn't it? Do I get to meet him?"

Sciuri
She had to wonder if maybe she'd said the wrong thing to Aylin about being a good sort of odd. It had always been kind of an unspoken thing in their family, that Aylin was unusual, but no one really mentioned it. Maybe it was a taboo, but if it was, Iuri wished someone had told her. She hoped she hadn't hurt her sister's feelings.

Sciuri paused at the edge of the water, hesitating before she put her paws into it. The fish could wait for a little bit while she finished explaining herself: "It is a really long name. I think Ru is probably what people call him. It would make sense, I think. It's better than Zanski or something like that."

She batted at the water, which wasn't running very quickly that day. She didn't see any fish, which was something of a disappointment, but maybe that could wait for another day. Probably it could wait for another day. Rather like meeting up with Ru again. They'd set up a tentative time to meet again, a few nights from now.

"You could come with me the next time I meet him, if you want. I don't think he'd mind."

Aylin
When her sister finally agreed to let her see this boy, Aylin beamed brightly before moving up to the water. "This water is perfect for swimming lessons. You won't have to worry about the water swallowing you up. See? It's nice and calm. That's when it's asleep." She nodded sagely as she slowly moved into the water, up to her shoulders. Kicking off the ground, she 'swam' around. It was the equivalant of the doggy paddle, but it was swimming all the same. The now grey female 'swam' to her sister and grinned.

"Now you get in and let me teach you something fun. We'll stay higher than I just went, I think. That's how I was taught." She laughed as if that should be funny and then groaned afterwards. That was painfully awkward. "OK. Come here."

Sciuri
And just like that the matter of Iuri's nocturnal visitor and all the incumbent excitement was put out of mind as she watched her sister share the interesting and important things she had learned recently, specifically how to swim. In her opinion, which she would never voice, Aylin didn't look too much like a fish when she swam, but she was swimming, which was more than Iuri could say of herself at the moment.

"Sleeping is good," she said. The idea of being pulled under, "swallowed up" as Aylin put it, was incredibly unpleasant. Iuri had never so much as put her head underwater, but she knew with a certainty that it would not go well for her if she ever tried to breathe water.

She stepped in and mimicked her sister's motions to come over to where she was told to be.

Aylin
Smiling a bit, every time Iuri moved toward her, Aylin would step back. Ocassionally she would stop and tell Iuri what she needed to do and how, but for the most part, her sister was doing it herself. The pale one's chest swelled with pride as she lured her sister just a bit deeper. "Just keep moving your legs. You're doing really good, Iuri!"

Truly, her sister was enviable. She was dark, looked like both parents and even had both parents personalities. What did Aylin share like that? Nothing. She didn't look like any of them and thought like no one in their family. Instead of being hurt over it, Aylin figured she wouldn't ever let the fact she was so different get to her. Basically, her motto in life was: I don't think about it. "Don't even think about anything but me, OK? You can do this."
PostPosted: Fri May 20, 2011 8:47 am

Sciuri
Iuri did as her sister advised, wondering how in the world Aylin had learned to do this. She claimed it was from the fish, but Sciuri really doubted that her sister had learned to communicate with fish. She might think that she could communicate with them, but that didn't mean it was the case. And besides. What would a fish know about swimming like a lion? She decided it didn't matter, because Aylin's method worked.

"I can!" she exclaimed, very pleased with herself and in her smugness forgetting to coordinate all of her limbs properly.

She dipped in the water, but recovered before her nose or anything went under. Swimming was fun, she decided, and she was absolutely going to practice and get better at it. If she'd had any idea how silly lions look trying to swim, she might have thought about it for another second or two, but in the end she really did just enjoy the sensation too much to give it up simply because it looked silly.

"Thanks, Aylin," she said when she got to a point where her feet touched bottom. "That was really neat."
