Zanazziite was beginning to feel like her old self again. She had stayed out of Elysion after the first giant battle, recovering from what she had seen. The bluenette found herself smiling and laughing more often, the dark edge beginning to dull. The Lieutenant hadn't lost any of her passion in fighting for the Negaverse, just the anger that had come from her experience in Elysion.

Tonight she had found herself thinking of Painite, the girl she had helped in Elysion. The Lieutenant wondered if she ever got that maybe internal bleeding checked out with the doctor she had recommended. It would be a shame if she had died.

That thought had her reaching for her Crystal and after a short call she had accomplished two things. One, she found out that Painite wasn't dead, and two she had set it up to meet the other officer on top of the Community Theatre where they had met before.

It didn't take long for the Lieutenant to get there, arriving before Painite. Moving to the edge of the roof she carefully settled herself on the edge of the building, spreading her skirts out. Her legs swung back and forth, her heels clicking against the side of the building.

Lieutenant Painite had gotten sucked into a lot of fights in Elysion, or at least, a lot by her standards. But that almost felt like a different person, and she had learned so much from it that now, in retrospect, Captain Painite felt like they had been some of the most important fights of her life.

And she would use what she had learned to the benefit of the Negaverse.

That was one thing she never got tired of. As good as she thought she was, as proud as she sometimes was of her traps and tricks, she was always learning something new. Sometimes simple, sometimes complicated, sometimes mostly useless, sometimes life altering. It was exactly the kind of adventure she loved.

Bouncing her way over rooftops toward the community theatre, her new spear laying gripped in her hands (just in case: one never knew when a senshi might pop onto the scene), she hummed and made her way to meet Zanazziite. She was excited to see her again, after their last meetings, wanting to check in with her and see how everything was. And maybe if she wanted to go on a hunt for some energy, or a senshi, or something fun.

Painite found she didn't have enough friends in her Nega community, though she loved the ones she had dearly. It would be nice to make more, and maybe find someone who shared her adventurous spirit. She landed on the roof lightly, grinning when she saw Zanazziite sitting at the edge of the building.

"Hello there!" She said, popping up behind her, immediately reaching out to put her hand on the others shoulder just in case. No Nega Street Pizzas tonight.

The sudden appearance of Painite scared the beejeesus out of her, and it was only the other officer's hand on her shoulder that kept her from falling off the building and splatting on the sidewalk. A hand covered her pounding heart as she caught her breath. "Painite, you scared me." Pushing herself up, she dusted her bottom off before looking at the older woman with a smile.

It took her a moment to notice the changes in her, the uniform was different and there was a spear in her hands instead of the hobby horse. Concentrating a bit harder she also noticed her power signature was stronger than before. "You're a Captain!" This was exciting for the Lieutenant, while she had met Captains, and even Generals, Painite was the first Lieutenant she met that got promoted. Her violet eyes shone with admiration, and a bit of envy. She couldn't wait to become a Captain, proving to herself that she was doing good work in the Negaverse.

"Do you feel any different?" The moment the words left her mouth she realized what a silly question it was. Of course she would feel different, Captains were more powerful than Lieutenants after all. Glancing at the spear and then back to Painite's face her smile widened. "I like your new weapon." The hobby horse had been cute, but didn't seem very effective. The spear on the other hand was intimidating.

Painite laughed, making sure to hold on to her tightly. It was all in good fun, until someone fell off a building. She was very glad to see Zanazziite, though, and a good scare between friends was a sign of bonding, right? Right. As long as she wasn't the one being scared, mostly.

When the other Nega noticed the differences in her, Painite beamed and stood proudly, chest out, gripping her new weapon and letting her friend get a good look at the new outfit. Just like with scares between friends, showing off was harmless, as well. Right?

"I feel amazing! Stronger, definitely. And I've got this staff now. Poor Mr. Saddles, did me so good, but this is a right dangerous looking thing. And look, this hair looks like it came from him. I did some research online, and it seems this hair is meant to soak up the blood of enemies. I mean, that's what other staffs with this kind of thing on them did. You know, to keep the grip and staff from getting all slippery."

She was babbling, but that was how she reacted to her excitement. And she was a classic girly girl in that way, despite the strange topic: she loved to babble.

"I haven't had much chance to make use of it, of course, but I'm looking forward to getting out on the hunt and seeing what it, and I, can do now. Oh! You should join me!"

When Painite mentioned that the hair was supposed to soak up the blood of enemies Zanazziite's eyes grew to the size of dinner plates. That was so cool! She wished her weapon had some sort of blood soaking up hair on it. "Wow, that's so amazing. And you look really good too! With the new uniform and all, very classy." Being classy was always important to Zan, she was nothing if not classy.

The moment Painite mentioned the hunt the bluenette's antlers appeared in her hands. "I'd love to!" A thought occurred to her and she nearly started bouncing in excitement. "We could be a team!" She stared up at the Captain with big hopeful eyes. She always wanted to be on a team, and Painite was the first real friend she made in the Negaverse, even if they didn't know each other all that well.

Her grip shifted on the handles of her antlers, ready to get out there and use them. Maybe they could hunt down a senshi, or at least a civilian or two that they could suck dry.

Painite tried not to giggle with glee when Zanazziite complimented her. Captains didn't giggle, did they? Cackle, maybe. Smirk and scoff, for sure. But giggle might be pushing it. Not that she cared for longer than that thought, and she did give in to the urge to giggle, nodding her head as she did so.

"Thank you! I admit, I must get used to the cape."

Ah, there were those antlers. She nodded her head, grinning now. It was easy to slip into hunt mode these days, going out and gathering energy for the Negaverse, and improving herself while she was at it. And in all of that, there was room for enjoying it. In the theatre, the saying went that if one wasn't having fun, they weren't doing it right. A modified version of that seemed applicable with this work, as well.

"A team? Brilliant!" She nodded her head, offering her free hand, "as long as you agree to join me in my plots and bring every senshi we meet to their knees, then we'll make a perfect team! Partners."

Zan smiled eyeing the cape. "I think it's very dashing. I'd wish for a cape, but I don't think it would go with my dress." She glanced down at her uniform, which was so unlike a uniform she had actually gotten away with posing as a normal person for a long while. The thought of Abigail made her frown for a moment. Anthony Darrow had broken her heart, and it still wasn't quite healed yet. Another reason she needed to become stronger, so she could get revenge.

Painite's agreement to being a team snapped her out of her memories, her face lighting up with a grin. "Excellent!" She tucked one of her antlers under her arm, reaching out to shake Painite's hand. "I wholeheartedly agree, the more senshi on their knees the better." It was pretty awesome being part of a team, partners Painite had said.

Gripping her antlers in both hands again she looked around then back to Painite. "So, where do we go first, boss?" Usually she just wandered around Destiny City until she ran into people alone who were easy targets for energy harvesting.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 29, 2011 11:51 pm

"Dashing, huh?" She beamed at that, apparently loving the idea of being dashing. True enough, it was usually used in a masculine sense, but her cape was, in its way, very dashing without being at all an insult to the very girly Painite. She thought it was perfectly feminine in its dashingness.

Quite.

She didn't realize Zanazaaiite was walking around with a broken heart, and would have tried to pick her spirits up by offering a girl's night in, or out, or whatever she preferred. Maybe she would offer that anyway, just for fun, since she had learned from her own Captain that bonding with teammates was important. And fun!

Shaking the other Nega agent's hand, she let out a laugh and looked around. The hunt was on.

Her heart leapt into her throat and she almost wanted to leap at Zan and hug her for calling her Boss. Instead, she just flashed a bright grin and nodded her head toward the edge of the roof. "There are usually some people bumming around a bar down the street here." She knew the area very well, of course, from working there and from doing a lot of her own hunting in the area. She tried to spread things out, but this was her favorite spot.

"Might be fun, picking off some drunk folks in an alley. They're always hilarious, too, if you get them confused. I love springing traps or just luring them into stupid prat falls."

"Extremely!" She grinned, she always thought capes were dashing, they reminded her of old romantic stories where the hero always got the girl and they rode off into the sunset. She didn't realize that her words could be twisted into calling Painite masculine. It wasn't what she meant at all, and was happy when the other woman seemed to understand her.

The bluenette had actually never told anyone about Anthony Darrow, she was sure it was against some sort of rule. Not to mention it just plain hurt to talk about. A very small part of her knew that it was hopeless, the man was twice her age after all. But the majority of her was certain that she loved him, and his rejection had crushed her. Talking about it would force her to relive the experience.

Zan returned Painite's grin looking in the direction she nodded. She had never thought to troll around the bars looking for victims. Now that her Captain had mentioned it the idea made perfect sense, but Zan wouldn't have come up with the idea on her own. Looking back to the other woman she nodded.

"Sounds like a good plan, boss!" She twirled her antlers, excited to see how well they worked together. She was also excited to find out what a prat fall was. "I'll be right behind you." She figured since Painite outranked her she should probably lead the charge. Also, it helped that Painite was the one who knew where they were going.

Painite was in a great mood already, and was excited to take her new found team, because anything more than one person could easily be called a team, out on the hunt.

It was likely that they would run into a drunk person stumbling out of the bar at this time in the morning. She liked picking on them. They weren't a challenge, of course, but that's what made them hilarious: they fell for just about anything and didn't know how to get out of it once they got themselves in trouble. There were many different types of reactions from a drunk person, but they were very rarely the right ones.

It made gathering energy a game as much as it was a sport and a job.

She nodded and made to leap from the roof, landing on a lower one. She continued down the street a short way until they found the hole in the wall bar she had been speaking about. She jumped down into the alley, waiting at the back entrance.

"This is where people who don't want to be seen getting to their cars drunk, or just looking for the fastest way out, or up to something sleezy, pop out." She grinned, motioning to the door. "I don't have any of my traps with me, but I think the two of us more than make up for it. Do you want to be the distraction or the attacker?"

Zanazziite was smiling widely as she followed after her new team captain, landing gracefully on the roof below them. She hadn't done much energy stealing since it had been introduced, more used to just grabbing star seeds. It was a bit easier to her, clean and quick. One grab and you were out. But, their Queen got what she wanted, and now she wanted energy orbs.

Trailing Painite like a puppy she hopped down into the alley right after her. Violet eyes looked around, her nose wrinkling slightly at their surroundings. She never really like alleys, though she spent enough time in them as a Nega.

The bluenette nodded at the older woman's words, looking towards the door. She had no idea what she meant by sleazy, but she figured it must be something bad. Turning her gaze back onto Painite she was thoughtful for a moment. "You're stronger, so you should probably attack." She paused for a second, "How should I distract them?"

Painite, on the other hand, hadn’t been around for anything but energy stealing. She had no experience pulling out star seeds, and didn’t know what she was missing on that front. She was not going to complain about that yet, though, as she was perfectly happy draining people of their energy. And coming up with creative ways to do it.

Her main goals were usually to get a target, trap that target, steal their energy and leave no trace of herself behind. Nothing to pin on terrorists, unless she wanted them to have it. That was it.

“How about you act drunk? I don’t suppose you’ve ever been drunk, have you? I bet you anything that some slime ball will stumble out of those doors, see you looking like you’re easy pickings, and then we can show him what it really means to be preyed on. What do you think? I like it, but I don’t want to make you do anything you don’t want to.”

She tilted her head.

“I’ll be right here, with Mr. Saddles.” She smiled brightly, reassuring.

Act drunk? Zanazziite wasn't sure how well she could do that. She had never drank before in her life, but it couldn't be hard...right? The bluenette cleared her throat, answering a little shyly. "Ah, I haven't been before. I'm not old enough to drink." Nevermind that most kids her age were finding illegal ways to get liquour. Zan followed the rules the best she could. "I can try though! I've seen drunk people on TV before."

She was a bit nervous about their plan, what if she wasn't convincing enough? Well, there was only way to find out, and if anything went bad Painite would save her. She brightened up, smiling at her. "Okay, I think I can do it." She let her antlers disappear, she couldn't well be easy pickings with those out could she? She walked towards the door, stepping into the dim light of the street, one hand nervously playing with her pearls. And then she remembered she was supposed to be drunk.

Letting her body go loose she stumbled forward. “Oh, I think I had too much to drink. What will I do now?” It was obvious the seventeen year old’s acting skills needed a little work, but she was trying. Hopefully whatever drunk came out first wouldn’t notice that she was in fact, not drunk.

Painite grinned broadly.

Acting lesson time! She lifted her hand, though it wasn’t actually important in the lesson. She just did it on impulse to signify that she was going to start talking now. She grinned broadly. “The way I learned it, the key to acting drunk is focusing on not acting drunk. That’s what they do, after all. Everything just takes a beat too long, a sloping movement, a whole lot more concentration that it should. Slurred speech and falling over is fine and good for a visual display, but if you’re playing drunk, you want to sell it, right?”

She chuckled, nodding her head. She couldn’t help it.

Painite clapped her on the shoulder. “Just have fun with it. Don’t worry, don’t think, just say yes to your impulses and let the scene guide you. I promise you, it’ll be fun.” She grinned, always smiling, bright eyes warm and comforting.

She hopped away then, hiding as she started her scene. Painite tried not to laugh or clap, biting her tongue. They’d have time for more lessons. A man came out of the bar as if on cue, which was fitting, and his eyes fell on the teenager with a disgusting speed. He wobbled over to her, all teeth and vague, clumsy hand motions. “Hey, there, sweetheart, whatchu doin here?”

Her Captain’s words came back to her. She just needed to act like everything was extra hard to do. She could totally do that. What would she do next if she was drunk? She was trying to follow her impulses, but she didn’t have much experience with drinking, unless it was her mother, and she just laughed a lot. Well, she could do that!

When her ruse started working she got a little worried. This guy was old, and really drunk. Why was he looking at her like that? She swallowed her disgust, remembering her part in the whole thing. Suddenly she burst out laughing like he had told her the funniest joke in the world. “I’m lost?” She made herself sound confused, her words coming slower than they normally would. She stumbled towards him a little reluctantly; she didn’t want to get close enough that he could touch her. She decided to embellish her story, her brow wrinkling as she pretended to concentrate. “My friends gave me something to drink…They said it was water, but it tasted funny.” She frowned, “Can you help me?” She resisted the urge to look around, Painite would come get the guy any second, she just knew it.

Painite watched, gripping her weapon. She was not going to let any harm come to her new Lieutenant. What kind of a Captain would she be if she got her loyal teammate hurt on the first night’s hunt? Or slobbered on by an old drunk guy. Just was bad, if not worse.

She smiled as she watched the performance, then lunged forward.

“Sorry to interrupt!” She laughed, slamming her staff down on the poor man’s head before he had time to fully extend the creeping, curled fingers he had lifted to reach for Zanazziite with. “No touchies. Why is it men can’t just look?” She grinned at Zan, then offered her an applause.

“That was really good! Definitely not bad for a first time performance. I’d cast you in my next show, certainly,” she looked down at the man, kicking his limp body to make sure she hadn’t hit him too hard. She was used to swinging a lighter stick that ended in a plush horse: that required hitting harder. She didn’t think she had killed him, at least. “Want the… uh… honors?” She offered, wrinkling her nose at the smell coming off the snoring man.

Ugh, was he reaching for her? She couldn’t help but shrink back. She’d like to think that even if she was actually drunk she would react the same way. She didn’t want some creepy old guy touching her. It wasn’t so much because he was old, Tony had been old and it hadn’t bothered her. It was more of the creep factor that was bothering her.

Lucky for her Painite picked that exact moment to jump up, whacking the guy in the head. Zan couldn’t stop herself from jumping slightly, the Captain had surprised her. Her words made her laugh though and she stood a little straighter. When she started clapping her face went red as a beet, her eyes lighting up like it was Christmas. She had done a good job!

She held onto the praise, floating on cloud nine. She hadn’t sucked, or failed. She was a good underling! She was distracted from her thoughts by her question. “Oh, uhm, sure.” Zan grinned at her Captain and then crouched next to the body. Suddenly she was very glad she was wearing gloves, at least she wouldn’t have to touch him directly.

Reaching out three fingers encircled his wrist and she concentrated, his skin glowing green under her fingers as she sucked away his energy. When he was completely drained she stood up, holding a delicate green orb in her hand. Stretching her arm out she offered it to Painite. “I guess I give this to you now, since you’re my Captain.”

Painite laughed as the girl flushed. Taking applause could be difficult sometimes, sure. She understood that. But she also thought that the Lieutenant had done very well, and deserved it anyway.

She watched as Zan set about taking the energy from the victim. She nodded her head, then moved to take the orb from Zan. It was rather interesting for her, as she had always been handing what she collected off to other people. This was the first time anyone had ever reported to her, for anything, and she suddenly felt very old. Very important, and yet in a very small way.

She nodded her head.

“Thank you very much! That wasn’t so bad, huh?” She grinned broadly. “We made a good team! Yes, this will definitely work. You shall help me in our plots and we shall…” she was losing her strong language and posture. So she gave it up midstride and grinned broadly. “kick some senshi a**!”

Once the orb was taken Zan smiled, wrapping her arms around herself. It had been fun really, especially since the creepy guy hadn’t ended up getting too close, or at least not while he was conscious. “You’re welcome!” Her smile grew, along with her happiness. She was on a team, they were going to have plots!

“Yeah! We’ll kick butt.” She grinned, not realizing how silly she sounded saying butt, but it was habit for her not to use any kind of swear words. Her grandma always used to tell her ‘You’re an intelligent girl, Claudia, use your words’.

Looking up at the sky she realized how late it was, and with a small frown looked back to her new Captain. “I should probably go, before anyone notices I’m gone.” She had almost gotten caught once sneaking back into her room, she didn’t want it to happen again. She already felt bad enough breaking curfew.

Painite noticed that she hadn’t said a**, which had to mean something. She would remember that for the next time she had the urge to curse. Learning about her Lieutenant was the first step to a good relationship, and even better plot making.

She grinned.

“Alright, I should get this back, too. Ah. So, we should meet up again, huh? I mean, of course we do. So we can continue our escapades! And also, I want to get to know you better. So! We’ll meet up again whenever you’re free? I power up pretty much every night, so just use your crystal.”

Holding her arms open, she fully expected a hug.

Teams did that, right?

“Alright!” She smiled widely, it was nice being on a team. She’d never really been on one before, she didn’t play any sports and was never in Girl Scouts. “I’ll call you tomorrow.” She was about to turn and leave but then she saw Painite’s arms were open. Oh. Hugging? Zan was exactly used to affection from anyone but her grandmother, but she didn’t refuse.

Stepping forwards she wrapped her arms around the Captain, squeezing her gently. “Thanks, Painite.” She smiled keeping her arms around her for a moment. This hugging thing wasn’t so bad. Pulling away, she gave her a little wave. “See you later, Boss!” Her smile widened and then she took off, heading for Crystal Academy and her bed.
