Araneth

The city, and the blood line of the Royalty, the two next heirs to the throne have gone missing. The entire story is a mystery in itself, but the only information yet known is that the King and Queen want their children back. Even if that means hiring you to do the job. The entire situation reeks of dirty politics, but proof of such a feeling is yet to be found. You must follow leads and access any information available in the region to solve the case, before both of the Children disappear forever.

Journal Entry, ¦¦/¦¦/¦¦

Day 2 after I got pulled into THE RIFT. I sure hope that those guys survived the journey alright and got dropped somewhere else, or *somewhen*

The "renowned" sellsword Zachary stirred the cold honeyed drink slowly as he listened to the boy's story. It had been two days since he was dropped here, in a place before the time of his entrance to this world. in an incident that involved a serious rip into reality itself and a death of a vengeful deity, he and his comrades had been scattered throughout this world, or the world as his friends stubbornly called it. Luckily a few of the relics and gifts by his friends that he kept around was of use here, as he had sold some of them for a considerable fortune. It is a perfect amount, since, in fact, the money is small enough for him to keep on his person all the time and still travel, while valuable enough to distinguish him from normal adventurers. The tavern reeked of alcohols, blood and feces, with red-faced warriors and bards singing bawdy songs. A noble would have chosen a private room or a more hidden place, but Zach has learnt that sometimes there is no better place to conceal your voice than in the din of drunken men.

He had plucked the boy right from the street, he was a strange one out of the group for sure, as he know by firsthand experience that a beggar not in a group will usually die fast. The boy had been quiet at first, denying that he would know anything about the kidnapping of the king's children. But after a bag of coin he had opened up easily. Beggars are usually a perfect spy, and it was by luck that the boy had got second hand knowledge from the talk of others, of hooded men hiding in the dark.

That is enough confirmation that I'll get to topple some figure of power

He smiled, counted a few more coins, and handed it to the boy.

A R A N E T H

High up in a tree stretched a demon by the name of Glyss Mael. His idle wanderings had brought him to this island a mere week or so ago and he had been squandering his earnings ever since. But now that his funds had run dry, there was nothing for him to do except to laze about. The demon had no interest in looking for a job, but if he expected to eat any time soon, he wouldn't have a choice. His grumbling stomach reminded him fiercely that he needed nutrition soon by giving painful cramps and loud grumbles. All of this was ignored of course as the stubborn demon refused to move.

He did however open an eye, revealing a swirling purplish silver eye, when he overheard a group of gossiping women.

"Did you hear about the King and Queen's children?" Said the first woman. Her chin wobbled with every word she spoke, causing the demon to smirk in amusement.

"No, what happened?" Said the second with shock marring her face. Though Glyss' s attention barely stayed on her face for very long as they strayed elsewhere.

"Someone stole the children! No one knows what happened to them, so the King and Queen are offering a reward to whoever can find them. I hear it's quite a large sum. You would never have to work again!" Clucked the first. The second woman's response was unknown as the demon had long left after he heard the word 'reward.' He walked with purpose and for the first time in a while, his stomach didn't growl painfully.

Things went easier than expected. It seemed the King and Queen would just hire just about anyone in order to get their children back. Well...just about anyone. They obviously carried escorted a crazed looking man out. It mattered little to him. Less competition that way. Now he was walking down the streets with a smirk on his face. Glyss was going to get those brats if it was the last thing he did.

And now to set it all in motion...

Of course, again, one would think that it is a good idea to go right to the palace and announce that you're working for the King and Queen to find their children, and then gain some help. But Zach know better than that. Whoever was behind the kidnapping had to have access to the palace, and thus he won't be safe anymore if he was known. He instead decided to blend in with the small group of mercenary with different looks about them that gathered to work together and split the reward. He is sure that one of them would double-cross each other as soon as they found the children. He would have the benefits that they're getting, but he obviously won't be known officially.

Glyss was on his way to his favorite tree to get a little rest before setting out, when he spotted a group of mercenaries discussing a plan to get the children. Some had good ideas while others were plain suicide. But that wasn't his problem at the moment. His was problem was that there were way too many people on this mission for him to be comfortable with. He could wait until most of them meet their doom or fight each other to the death over the reward. But he couldn't risk the chance of that not happening. It would just be his luck that the idiots would actually want to split the reward. So the demon would do what the demon did best: Spread lies.

The demon slunk into one of the forming groups and whispered as quietly as he could, "Didya hear? There was a spotting of the children at the Spine of Chaos."And just like that, Glyss moved to group after group, spreading lies of children being in the most dangerous places on earth. His plan worked better than expected as his purple eyes watch them scurry off to prepare to set out in all the wrong directions. It was true that the children could've possibly been on one of those islands, but Glyss was confident enough that they would perish before even reaching their destination. Whether it was by poor navigation, the indigenous people or them themselves. Whatever the case was, it was no longer a problem.

There was only one group left, but Glyss decided to leave them alone. A little competition never hurt anyone. That is unless the competition won.....
"Like that's gonna happen."He snorted to himself, but kept an eye on the other group. He caught sight of what looked like a kid and couldn't help but to laugh a bit. What did a kid think he could do on a job like this? He seemed to small to help anyone and seemed like he would just get in the way.

Ancient people are idiots...

"Aye, I have heard 'em, 'e're onna go ta..." the Orc's voice trailed off as he was stared down by Zach. He wasn't that old, but if you asked the orc there were something fearsome and weathered in his eyes. But he didn't show it, of course. "Well? What's your idea? You can't just stand here and act like we'll get anything done from cynicism." a reptilian-like man said in his grating voice to Zach, he sensed it Zach thought as he opened his mouth to speak, for the first time he joined up with them here something rather than 'stupid', or 'suicidal'.

"Of course, it's quite clear that the children are not in this city, but have you even considered that we might have to find out who and how kidnapped them first? And why?" he sensed the skeptical eyes "Look, I can see most of you are men of actions, but some of you, I can feel some air of professionalism, and you also disapproved what the others think, you just kept silent because you want them to die." he cleared his throat, "We might need to interview some of the servants in the castle, they will know..." it'll take some time, but he'll convince them to go and fetch some servants, or at least allow him to to ask them.

Journal Entry, ¦¦/¦¦/¦¦

After another visit to the palace and some interrogations the group still returned with no clue. On the surface it reeks of corruption, but as yet Zachary couldn't find anything more than "hooded men". He wondered if he was lied to, and felt like an idiot for giving the beggar money. The reptile man, Volkhar, had found another piece of information when he visited an oracle. The presence of the children are far away from here, and even if they could find the kidnapper here, they would not find the children.

"The giant's fortress, not built by any mortals.... but by the seas...? You gotta be kidding me" he said suddenly after contemplating for a while. He had bought maps, and he knew exactly what that place is. "Giant's are not that dangerous." Volkhar replied, "You can easily sneak by their noses."
"Well, the problem is. It's not actually a giant's fortress. That was just it's name... Macanthdriar's Abode. The stepping stones. The place itself is not dangerous, but the journey..."

[I'll still stall setting off until he posts, I guess]

"You must either be extremely brave, or extremely stupid. I'm going to go with stupid."Glyss didn't know why he had spoke up, but something inside of him was feeling awfully tired of this group's lastest activities. At first he found it amusing that they would even ask the servants. As if that wasn't done already by the guards and the king and queen themselves.

"We're not dealing with some amateur kidnapper, my dear gentlemen. Who ever had the guts to pull off something like this has some skill. Either that or he just got lucky. Whatever the case may be, I can assure you he will not be on that island."The demon spoke with confidence as he circled around the group. "It would be far too risky to take a couple of children there. One of them might run off and get themselves killed. And we all know that without the goods intact there would be no prize."His purple eyes met each of their own with a gaze that would seem unsettling.

"Let's be smart about this, gentlemen. We don't want to end up like those idiots that have already left. I mean, we don't exactly have the luxury to just go any old where and be wrong. Time is of the essence, after all."The sooner they left, the sooner they could find the children, and the sooner Glyss could sit back and watch them kill themselves while he took the money for himself.

Zach was startled when another person whom he hasn't noticed before spoke up. "...I can understand that. Not like I put much stock on prophets anyways. But just like what you said, we need clues first before setting off. and then an idea struck him. "But what if the kidnappers were trying to assassinate them? Now that seemed like a more probable reason why they would make them disappear."

"But why can't they just kill them in the city..."

[I really have no clue where to go until Emperor of Shadows post]

"Then why not kill them in their beds. A bullet right between the eyes! Ha!"His eyes turned an eerie seriousness as he spoke. "Why take two snot nosed brats away from home just to kill them, hm? It's because those two snot nose brats are your ticket. Your ticket to paradise."His gloved hands were clenched and by this time he had almost forgotten about being around others. He was just imagining himself as the kidnapper. What he would do to those brats if he had the chance to take them first.

"Perhaps....perhaps he thinks himself as some savoir...."As the cogs in his mind began to turn, new ideas began to appear. "Perhaps, "he began once again forgetting that there were others in the room as his eyes took a sort of distant crazed look. "Ha,ha! Maybe this savoir broke in, drugged and then kidnapped the children! Sweeping them off to some unknown place and pretend to have stumbled upon them....giving them false promises that they will go home. Knowing full well that they cannot return unless the King and Queen get on their knees and holds up a platter of gold! Fit for a king!"

A deep breath was taken and his gloved hands were combed through his hair. When composure and sanity seemed to return to the stranger, he dared look around the room. They must think him mad! But what did he care? A madman took the children, and it would take a madman to find them. "Now where oh where has those little children gone? Oh where oh where could they be?"He asked mostly to himself in a sing song voice.
