Aimee broke the surface of the lake with a shake of her mane. Swimming on days as bright as this one was one of her favorite past times, even if it was frigidly cold. She ducked back under, skimming the murky bottom, only to pop up next to her father in the shallow end.
"God's blood!" Broderick screamed, flaring his raven wings, barely having the restraint to stop himself from accidently trampling his daughter. What was with this girl? "Stop doing that to me, Aimee. You've got other blood in you besides Kelpi, so not pick something else to act like?"
She giggle, spitting a mouthful of water at his face before splashing him with her hooves. "Because Kelpi's are more fun! 'sides, I don't have wings like you, father." Aimee pointed out, relishing in the fact that she had him stumped. Oh ya, she was just that awesome.

 Normally Desvayne kept up a slightly nocturnal schedule, asleep during most parts of the day and active at night. Though that was mostly due to the fact that the stallion preyed upon many land-dwelling species, from small rodents to larger more controversial meals. He had no qualms as long as it had meat enough to fill his belly. That is to say, this particular kelpi was definitely of the meat eating variety. As such, he was a much more successful hunter at night, when most of his targets were guaranteed to either be asleep or unaware of his presence. It wasn't often that the kelpi found himself on the other end of the spectrum.
Slumbering close to the shore of the lake, yet completely hidden amongst the murk and reeds, Desvayne was quite surprised to hear splashing and yet still, voices dulled through the water to accompany said splashing. Was it possible that he had company? He was unsure of whether this pleased or annoyed him, as he had the sneaking suspicion that these intruders were not of the aquatic variety. Indeed, the thought of being bothered by some pesky land-lovers really gritted on the kelpi's nerves.
With a grunt he blew the stale air from his lungs, sending a spasm of bubbles to the surface, and rose from that exact spot no more than a few moments after- covered in the reeds that had concealed him. Peaking out through a few strands of the vegetation that blocked most of his face the kelpi's eerie glowing yellow eyes spotted the two no more than a few yards away from where he had been slumbering. For the moment he said nothing, prefering to study these two and taking a particular interest in the little filly. She looked... kelpi? Desvayne shot an accusing glance to the grey stallion, wondering at the situation he had just stepped into, with nothing pleasant coming to mind.
