Stupid arm. Stupid exploding hedgehog. Tambrey sighed as she glared at her sling for what felt like the ninth time that day. Broken bones. Ick. The ache was like an itch that she couldn't scratch. An itch that hurt like... like... like a broken arm! Stupid exploding hedgehog. Stupid arm.
With her unbroken, right, arm and hand she patted at the pokeballs on her belt. There was one extra addition. She'd almost forgotten about the Spinarak, stolen from some poor trainer a few days before the latest mission... And after remembering the few training sessions from before the mission with this little bug pokemon, she hadn't been keen to attempt them for a bit. But with a broken arm and pokemon that needed training whatever the state her body happened to be in, here she was. Palu was the most disciplined of her team, but Tam' was pretty sure she'd be too tough on the spidery handful. Thus, Lasi the zubat fluttered eager and ready as Neph's opponent as Tambrey called her newest addition from the ball. "... Spinarak!" Neph hissed, irritably. Great. /The Rocket/ was bothering her again. "Nice to see you too." Tam' replied, twitching her nose. "I'm determined you're going t' work on this team. So we're goin' t' train, 'kay?" "...arak." Came the unenthusiastic, bitter tone.

He needed to get out of his room. The realization had hit him as abruptly and almost as hard as he had hit the Ariados' leg. Since being released from the medical bay he had only left to eat, bathe, and so on; although he was enjoying the chance to work on engine schematics, variety was the spice of life. More to the point, his pokemon needed exercise; he had realized the Skiron was bored out of his mind when the usually placid Glaceon first froze his cup of tea solid, and then shook ice shards all over the room. One simply could not concentrate with such things going on, and it would do him good to at least walk around a bit while he gave Skiron and Persephone the chance to stretch their legs... Persephone actually didn't have legs of course, but he knew what he meant.
So it was that the small blond pushed open the door to one of the training rooms, Skiron right on his heels. As he stepped inside, however, he realised that he was not alone in looking for a change of pace during sick leave. " 'Brey," he still wasn't sure if he should be calling her that, or if it would have been better to pick a different nickname, "hello... You have come to do some training too?" He supposed he ought to be glad that all of his limbs functioned at least; he might be forced to lie on his back, and unable to take very deep breaths, but if he'd broken an arm working on accurate diagrams would have been very difficult indeed.

Stupid arm. It did make things awkward. Tambrey blinked though, turning her eyes as someone else entered. "Frosty." She greeted with a smile and then nodded. She pointed toward the little Spinarak, bristling at her Zubat above. "Thought I'd try an' do somethin' useful and this little girl needs breakin' in. She's uh... kind of grouchy. Still attached to her old owner. How've y' been?"
"Spinaraaak!" A burst of String Shot was suddenly expelled from the little spider, directed for the pink bat overhead.
"Whoa! No! We've no' started yet!" Tambrey protested to no avail. The little bug was still trying to attack. Whether or not they'd started properly or not, Lasi found this hilarious as he dodged the strings. Fun!

"Frosty?" the pale man said calmly, raising on eyebrow very slowly and very pointedly. "As in the jolly snowman? Are you making a dig at me being 'ball shaped' like a snow man, or just generally mocking me with a silly term of address?... Or are you calling me that because you do not wish to be called 'Brey? If you will refrain from calling me 'Frosty', I would be more than glad to call you whatever you wish..." On reflection, it probably wasn't intended as an insult; other than that she was being perfectly friendly... but the friendliness itself could be an act. Had he done something to anger her at that party, or on the mission? Well, he might find out soon, for now he would address the rest of her words and not concern himself with it too much.
"In any case," the eyebrow lowered again, "I can see that her discipline needs work. She has not yet accepted that you are her mistress? I experienced such issues with Persephone at first but she has mellowed over the... mmmh, no, that is the wrong word. She has not mellowed at all; she has merely learned that when she does what I say her life is more enjoyable than when she does not."
He knew that his Spiritomb was wholly and unabashedly 'evil' in the eyes of most of the world, but he had always found terms such as good and evil rather foolish anyway. A matter of perception, of societal norms. There had been a time when child marriages, beating women, public execution and blood sports had been considered quite normal, and come to that pokemon battles were not so far from a blood sport. It was true that deaths were rare, but it couldn't be denied that the fights were truly vicious, and that many pokemon suffered because of them. Yet trainers were good, to be admired, but if you planned one very careful murder - one which would improve the overall quality of the human race - you were a monster. It wasn't even as though he'd gone through with it in the end; circumstances had changed. Typical.

Tambrey watched as her Zubat shot about delightedly, which seemed to enrage the little spider more. "STOP!" She tried to tell the bug pokemon firmly, but that didn't seem to have an affect at all. She sighed. "Palu. Gust her. Lasi, stop playing around up there."
The dark-haired grunt then eyed Frost curiously. "'S just a nic'. Y'know. Term of affection. I can stop if y' don't like it." She confirmed, not sound angry at all. In fact, she sounded vaguely amused and continued with "It is also a cereal". A beat and then "Brey's fine, by the way. I like it."
Meanwhile, Palu was using Gust upon the little bug, and now found herself the target of the little spider's ire. Lasi, having been told to stop playing and given no other instruction, chose to come and land upon his trainer's shoulder.
"Yes. She hates me. Tryin' to get her t' be useable though. 'S nice to have something other than a flyin' type on the team, though I've naught bad t' say about 'em. How'd exactly you reign that ghosty in? I spotted her about in the woods. Seems useful."

"Oh... Well, good. I will keep calling you 'Brey, and you shall call me Frost then." That was that sorted then, although he wasn't sure what cause she had to feel affectionate towards him. Maybe she was just a generally affable person, he really didn't know enough about her to guess. They had managed to be civil to one another at the party; perhaps she had actually been being friendly and he just hadn't... hadn't noticed. Been being? Surely he could come up with better phrasing than that. At least he had only sounded moronic inside his own head he supposed; been being indeed.
"Oh, it was simple really," Frost went on, returning his attention to 'Brey. "I merely made it clear to her that if she did not obey me, she would be shut away in storage for all eternity, and therefore never again be able to fill living creatures with terror and agony... It did take her a while to accept that only attacking the things I give her permission to attack was the best deal she was going to get but we are... mmmh... we are more or less there now. She appears to have moments of... of conflict," Frost frowned slightly in concentration as he tried to get his thoughts out without pausing every few moments, "but this is only to be, well, to be expected. She is made up of one hundred and eight spirits; one cannot expect perfect agreement from so many minds all of the time but... but from my observations I believe there is one dominant 'voice', if you will, that can overpower the others. Mmh. I think it is that one which I convinced to work with me in the end, and the others are forced to do as she says."

"Er. Right. Frost it is then... Though I can't promise I won't forget, slip up and accidentally call y' Frosty on occasion. Ya might even have ended up bein' labelled Tony, but I already know a Tony and that'd jus' be confusing." She rambled, amiably, then listening on to the talk of the Spiritomb. "... That's just fascinating." It really was. Multiple spirits and a single leading voice. However... "... I don't think Neph has multiple personalities to reason with. I could try the storage threat though. Might... work..." She turned as Palu let out an enraged cry. The Spinarak had somehow gotten onto the bird's head. "...What?" She stared for a moment, then looked at the Zubat on her shoulder. "Go.. uh... help?" "Zuuu!" Lasi would have saluted if he could as he zipped off.
"Hrm. Well. Given y've got experience o' this sort, maybe y' could help me with Neph? I mean, I don' expect help for nothing, not in this place, so y' name what you need, but I'd appreciate your experience."

Oh dear. Well, he supposed he'd just have to keep correcting her if she kept doing it; not ideal, but at least she meant no harm. Apparently. Pursing his lips, Frost turned to regard the antics of Brey's pokemon. "I require no compensation for mere advice," he said eventually, "but I am not sure how much help I can really be... Can you tell me how you acquired her? If she was stolen from a trainer she was fond of that could explain her attitude towards you." He would like to think that if Skiron were ever taken away from him, the Galceon would display a similar, or worse, attitude to whoever had stolen him. It might well not be possible to ever get the bug type to like Brey and that case, but obedience ought to be achievable; operant conditioning was a wonderful thing.

"Bumping technique. Some kid. Nabbed from their belt as I passed. Doesn't seem... to know a lot of attacks beyond the standards, so I doubt they were long int' pokemon. There were three balls on the belt; 's the only ball I got from it." Tambrey explained as bidden.
Meanwhile, the little spider pokemon had become rather confused, dropping off of Palu's head. The pink Zubat fluttered back to Tam's shoulder proudly as Palu unleashed a gust upon the Spinarak, finally making her unable to battle.
"Hm. At least it was good training f'r you two. Good work." The dark-haired woman complimented her flying types as she returned Neph to her pokeball.
"Well. Y' seem... I hope this won't offend you? Y' seem to be the type that... could remember a text book word for word. If that makes sense? You seem to be very..." Don't call him an encyclopedia "... precise with the stuff you say. Er. Maybe it's the wrong word. Very... specific?" I hope that's considered a compliment...

Humm. Well if it hadn't been too attached to its trainer, perhaps it was just generally disagreeable? It was possible, very possible, that there was a way to make the bug type truly warm to Brey but he certainly didn't know what it would be. Perhaps he should point out the fact that his techniques were not likely to inspire adoration... Well, barring Stockholm Syndrome anyway.
"Oh?" As Brey spoke again Frost raised his eyebrows, but as she concluded a very brief, very small smile tugged at his lips and he shook his head. "I always endeavour to be both precise and specific," he replied, "and so you do not offend me. If anything you flatter me; I cannot remember for for word everything I've ever read... Why inspired you to comment though? Is it something you have thought for a while but only just felt you could comment on because you were concerned that I would be displeased?" She wasn't a bad young woman. Maybe a little too shy, but many people were unsure of themselves at her age... Well he didn't actually know her age, but he couldn't imagine she was more than twenty five, and presumed she was slightly less.
As it seemed there wasn't a battle on the cards right away, Skiron left his trainer's side and padded over to the Zubat and Pidgeotto with a chirrup of greeting.

"'s the way you talk." Tambrey hoped that didn't sound too blurted out. It certainly seemed to drop out before she could think it over properly. "Er. You ask questions like that... And y' use words that my books have a lot of but quite a few people wouldn't use. And you asked me before about the... er.. application of the... nickname that slipped out. Very matter o' fact." She shrugged slightly as if unsure she quite getting things across properly. "Y'know it's... just... All clean, careful movements and the whole way of talking you've got; just adds up to.. well. That impression." She grinned sheepishly. "I'm glad 's not an insult. Certainly wasn't meant t' be. Some people don't like bein' thought of as... well... Some people jus' don't like it."
Tambrey had no problems admitting she was a geek, but she'd certainly worry over someone meaning to imply it as a bad thing or making assumptions. She was glad that her own assumptions hadn't landed her in trouble.
Palu seemed rather delighted to see the Skiron again. So much so that she dipped her head somewhat regally along with her greeting. "Piidge!"
The Zubat decided... he wanted to try and land on this potential new friend's head. "Zu!" Lasi exclaimed exuberantly. Hi friend!

"I can't imagine why anyone would get angry about a fair observation," Frost frowned slightly and shook his head. "No sense in getting worked up about something you are... Though some people do live in denial I suppose. I am aware of what I am, and I am satisfied with it; I have no cause to be upset when somebody notices." Were there things he would change about himself if he could just snap his fingers and have it happen? Of course there were. Better with social matters and slightly taller were at the top of his list, but as he knew he couldn't alter those things he accepted them. Not everyone could be charming and popular, and not everyone could reach the top shelf without standing on a chair. You couldn't have everything in life.
"And you," Frost went on, regarding the young woman thoughtfully, "are you always so... mmh... so concerned with what people might think of what you think?"
Skiron was mid way through returning the bow when a weight came to rest on his head. After an initial moment of surprise, the ice-type gave a rumbling chuckle before chirping a friendly greeting of his own; hello to you too friend.

Concerned with what people thought of her thoughts, concerned with what people thought of her, concerned of how well she was doing with this whole Rocket gig. Sure, she'd stolen a pokemon and she'd taken some part in a successful tech-grabbing mission... alongside this man actually... but she had to admit she had lots of concerns. And he'd hit one of them. "Not always. Just around home or, er, here..." She shrugged. "I've ne'r had someone ask it b'fore; guess I don' really know how to answer beyond that. So. Er. Sometimes. I'll stick with that. Is it a bad thing d'ya think? I know it's probably not an important concern t' have around a place like this, but still..."
Palu rolled her eyes as the bat sat upon the Glaceon's head. Why would he do that? "Pidgeeoh-toh Oh." She apologized for the bat's behaviour and then tilted her head. She wanted to inquire how the Glaceon was, but the bat on his head.. was... so... off... putting... "Pidge! Ohto!" She chirped at Lasi, sure he was being a nuisance, and trying to get him to leave the ice type's head.
"Zubat Zu!" Hi, how are you?! Who are you?! "Zuu!" And then Lasi introduced himself, before smiling at Palu. No room for her on friend's head! Friend's head was Lasi's place! Not for the bird! Hahaa!

"It is... a normal concern," Frost said after a brief pause, moving carefully over to a bench set against the wall and easing himself down onto it. Owch. Pain was uncomfortable... Pain was uncomfortable? Really? Exactly how man IQ points had he lost on impact with the enormous mecha? "It is a normal concern," he went on, "because the human is a very social animal. We survived and thrived despite our physical frailty because of our ability to work together, to cooperate. In days gone by, being an outcast led to almost certain death. Although this is no longer the case, the instinct to get along with others remains hard-wired. It is also true that most humans derive much of their pleasure from interacting with a social group; solitary activities are enjoyed by most to a greater or lesser degree but eventually," he had to pause there to breathe for a moment, "but eventually almost everybody desires company. To talk about the things they did alone, like a good book they read, or to engage in sporting activities, to attend parties, even just to watch television to read whilst others are around... Mmh, yes, in short I suppose it is not 'bad' to be concerned with what others things of you. When it comes down to it everyone wants to be liked, to be accepted as part of a 'tribe', as it were."
That had been quite a lot of talking, and now his ribs ached. Maybe it was just coincidence; the pain did flare up from time to time, and the effects of the painkillers he'd taken the previous night would have totally worn off by now. He didn't fancy taking any more though, not while he was out of his room and having to deal with people. He would survive; the pain wasn't telling him anything he didn't know, therefore it was irrelevant, and he could safely ignore it. Easier said than done, but still possible... More or less.
"Glaaace," Skiron smiled and shook his head; for now the zubat wasn't a problem, although his neck muscles would probably get tired before long. Then turning his attention to said zubat, he gave another friendly chirr; he was Skiron and he was very well thank you. He was expecting a battle before too long; perhaps their trainers would have them battle one another? Either that, or he would be battling the occupant of the other pokeball his trainer had with him; the black and gold spiritomb, who was named Persephone.

Huh. That was a lot of talking. It had practically been a full lecture on... uh... the species. It was pretty interesting but it had been very unexpected and Tambrey stood a little shell-shocked for a moment as she tried to rub unsuccessfully at her arm. Pain was uncomfortable, if she'd heard the thought, she'd certainly have agreed.
"I, uh, see. Well. That's welcome to know, at least? I'm not entirely sure I'll feel better about it, but at least I'm... fitting into being human?" She shrugged a little. She really need to learn how to respond to some of the odd stuff she kept coming across recently. "Part of the tribe." She smiled, deciding that would be a good enough answer to end with. "So. How are you hold'n' up? Y' come for the boredom 's well?"
"Zubat!" It could be 'hurray'. Lasi certainly seemed rather excited to meet the Glaceon. He shuffled on top of the ice type's head. And then flapped his wings. The next 'Zubat!' was definitely a happy noise and excited, as the little bat was flying off to bother the trainers, determined to get them to hurry up and get ready to battle. He wanted to play! And... win! But just the play for now...
Palu watched. Was Skiron sure the bat wasn't a bother? Hm. Well, he was nice enough and a good playmate or competitor to her sometimes. Still the bat had settled on his /head/ and was obnoxiously enthusiastic; how in Arceus had he tolerated that?
