The blind lioness felt she'd managed to travel a fair distance considering her condition. Part of it because she had slid down a fairly steep hill. The sand at the bottom had been soft; she picked herself up to find nothing had been injured. Also at this time, the sun had set quit quickly. One moment she could feel it on her pelt then nothing. Shukriyya had decided to bed down for the night in the soft sand. Unfortunately, it was nearly her undoing.
It hadn't been a hill that she'd fallen down, but into a good sized wash. Rains falling somewhere else had come careening down the wash. It swept up the lioness standing in its way; she had been awoken by the nose and stood up, trying to figure it out. Over and over she tumbled in the rushing waters. Hit by floating debree and pushed under. Though she paddled as hard as she could, 'Riyya kept getting turned around and around.
Starting to panic and fear that she would never find her way out of this nightmare. She was slammed into a large tree trunk. Instinctively, the lioness wrapped her paws around it and clung on. It twisted and dunked her several times. Leaving her gasping for breath.

Jeraha had merely been out to clear his head. He was still feeling pretty down after departing from his mate’s side, even if they had both agreed it was the best thing to do. Maybe he had been wrong to think leaving was the best thing. His restless spirit remained, even after venturing miles from his former home. What was he to do? The feelings of uneasiness wouldn’t fade, no matter what he did. This was bad.
But not as bad as the lioness he saw clinging to a tree trunk in some rushing water nearby.
Snapping from his own thoughts, he ran over quickly, surprised by the sight in front of him. “Hey!” he roared, “are you alright?! Hang on! I… I’ll be right in! Just stay keep calm and I’ll come save you.” He moved towards the trunk, trying to figure out the best method of helping her. He didn’t know, of course, that she was blind. It might have put a bit of a more careful nature to his tone. In that moment, he was purely concerned with getting her out of there.
Not what she must have thought of his gruff, constantly menacing voice.

Shukriyya barely heard the yell as she was dunked again. She came up gasping with her claws scrapping for a hold on the twisting trunk. "Who's there?!" she sputtered. Her head turned for a moment where she thought the voice had come from.
Someone was coming to save her? "Watch out the water is really fast!" She kicked her back legs to try and steady the branch. It was nice of said someone to risk themselves for her. While she absolutely wanted to be rescued, 'Riyya wasn't about to beg for it. Soggily she waited.

Jeraha didn’t waste any more time. He sprang for the water, letting himself dive right on in. The current was quick, as she had warned, but he wasn’t your usual lion. His legs were very strong, his kicking proving somewhat effective as he pushed himself towards the struggling lioness.
Once he was near enough, he nudged her with his nose, still flailing his legs beneath the water to keep himself afloat.
“Grab onto me and I’ll swim us both back,” he assured her, hoping his deep voice wouldn’t frighten her. Though he still didn’t know for sure if she was blind or not, the fact that she had asked who was there was a bit of a hint. “Don’t worry, I’ve got you,” he added gently, in an effort to calm her.

The lioness was surprised to hear a splash as the unknown lion actually jumped in. Was he crazy? She had to admire his courage to blithely jump into flood waters; all for someone he didn't know. However when he said to grab onto him, Shukriyya found herself reluctant to let go of her tree. It was keeping her afloat, true it wasn't helping her get out though.
His reassurance decided her. He'd come, and must surely know what he was doing. She pushed off the tree and draped her front paws over his back. Her back legs kept kicking to give him what help she could. Having been spun around, 'Riyya wasn't sure which way was shore. "Thank you!"

Jeraha made sure she was secure against his fur before moving to get himself back to the dry land. His large, strong body was more than enough to push the both of them through the waters, but he was pleased she wanted to help the best she could manage. Still, he made sure not to rely on it- he was the one who needed to get them back safe and sound. If he didn’t, what the hell kind of super hero was he?
Ha. Super hero- that was a laugh. If anything, he was more like a villain than a hero, what with his dark looks and unsavory disposition.
Eventually, he managed to get the both of them to the land, pulling her away from the water so they didn’t end up repeating the whole event over again. Panting, soaking, he sat himself down, taking a moment to shake about his large mane, the black and green fluff freeing itself from the water.
“Are you alright?” He asked once he finished, looking at the lioness once more.

Shukriyya could feel the power of this lion as he pulled them both to shore. It certainly impressed her. After what seemed too long, her paws touched land again. As soon as she was sure she wouldn't be swept back out she let go. Her legs wobbled as she dragged herself up to dry land. Shukriyya gave herself a good shake to most of the water out of her fur.
Her head turned toward him when he spoke. "Yes, I am now. Thank you for coming out to get me." Honestly, 'Riyya was embarrassed to need saving. She was not some damsel in distress, except now that she was blind that's the case she usually found herself in. It bothered her. Was this male going to require some sort of payment for his daring rescue? She hardly had anything to give.

“Take it easy,” he offered, “that must have worn you down, struggling in the water like that.” He knew he was feeling a bit tired, and he had no idea how long she had been in there. Even if he could shrug it off and move on, he was also a lot stronger than most animals out there. Not to be sexist, but she was a female… they didn’t have as much strength in their bodies.
That was why he sought to protect them.
“Think nothing of it,” Jeraha told her lightly, “anyone else would have done the same, I’m sure of it. Anyway, I’m glad I could be of help. Do you need anything else? What were you doing so close to the water?” He hadn’t introduced himself, but that kind of thing could wait until the air was really clear.

At his words, she wanted to tense up. No one told her to 'take it easy', but she was just too tired to put up much of a fuss. She might have been worn down, but at least her head had remained mostly above the water. Shukriyya settled herself down and started grooming tiredly. At least that ordeal was over with now.
She tried to smile being assured anyone would have. Well thankfully it had been him there and he had. "Ah no, I'm fine thank you." He had already saved her from the water. 'Riyya wasn't about to ask him to feed her as well; thereby revealing her blindness. She flushed and looked away from the sound of his voice. "I... um... walked too close to a ledge." Let him make of that what he wanted. She wasn't going to tell him that she'd walked right off the short cliff and into the water.

Jeraha watched the other. He was nothing if not very good at noticing the way others behaved in front of him. A cubhood of worrying what they thought of him had taught him to be very observant. While he no longer cared how he appeared to the masses, it was still a finely toned skill of his. He had picked up on the way she never seemed to be looking directly at him. The way her eyes didn’t seem to catch and adjust to the light as they ought to have. There was something she wasn’t telling him, he could see that as easily as she probably couldn’t see his scrutinizing expression.
“Well, all that swimming has made me hungry,” he said after a moment, “I think I shall get something to eat. I’ll bring it here, and you may have some too, since I still think you should rest for now. I’ll handle the rest.” He spoke nonchalantly, like this had all already been approved and he was merely letting her know, rather than asking. Maybe she wasn’t telling him everything for a reason, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t still help, right?
“I am Jeraha.”

'Riyya had no idea he had been watching her so closely. Thus she was oblivious that he knew her secret, though it was obvious to anyone not blind. Her ears twitched as he professed himself hungry. Only stern will kept her stomach from growling agreement. She was surprised by his statement to return and share. Reluctantly she nodded. Rest sounded great and her muscles felt like they were trembling.
"I think I will rest a bit. I..." No this had to be said, as much as she might hate it. "Thank you Jeraha. I am Shukriyya."
