Omari had walked all the way to a tiny stream to drink fresh water. Zamora had been napping but he still wanted to return to her side (and his beloved sea) as quickly as possible. Who knew how much trouble she could get into when he wasn’t watching – actually, she got in trouble whether he was there or not so perhaps she just needed him to watch his back and help with the damage control.

He felt restless as usual but honestly… how much trouble could she really get into in such a short amount of time? From his own experience, a lot. But not today! No, no, no. Today, Omari’s peace would not be disrupted by any form of shouting or rough-housing or running around like an idiot because Zamora had done something and now all the Corsairs were in uproar. It would be just him and his rock. Right? Right.

Zamora hummed happily as she trotted along the water's edge, a bit of bright purple cloth with shinny beads dangling from the ends of it between her teeth. It was soft and had a deep color to it, like the sea just as the sun set. Yes indeed it had been a good bit of luck and a stroke of her genius that she had managed this little trinket.

She gave herself a satisfied smile, all those endless hours playing shell and rock with Torin had paid off. Served that dumb grabby Corsair right to lose to her, thinking she couldn't play just because she was young and female. Maybe next time he might use those two brain cells he had to rethink his strategy when going against 'Sanguine' again.

Humming a little louder, she made her way up to where she could see Omairi getting ready to stretch out on what they had begun to consider their rock since they were small cubs. He was gonna really like this, she just knew it.

Ah, he wasn’t the only one going for the rock. It was a good thing the Commodore wasn’t here, Omari was pretty sure he also considered this rock his own. But with no adults in sight, Omari felt that they were going to have a nice, pleasant afternoon together. Undisturbed.

Unless Zamora wanted to talk. Unless Zamora wanted to play. Unless someone came to fight Zamora for whatever she was carrying.

“You didn’t steal that, did you?” he asked seriously but a smirk threatened to appear in the corners of his mouth as he jumped lightly to his favorite perch. He wouldn’t put it past her. Crew members weren’t allowed to steal from each other but hey! They weren’t Crew… yet.

His sister rolled her eyes and jumped up lightly beside him, carefully draping her new trinket over her paws as she lay onto her belly. Her white coat gleamed in the sun, for once not covered in a layer of sand to hide its brilliance.

" As if," she arranged it so the beads caught the afternoon rays, causing a prism of color to dance between her and Omari, " No, this pretty bit of treasure I won fair and square. I beat some grabby pawed nit wit in a supervised came of shell and rock. This pretty is all mine."

It was clear, Zamora was proud of herself.

Omari watched his sister’s hard earned trinket approvingly. He did like cloth… The young lion didn’t feel like admitting out loud though but then again Zamora knew him best. She might’ve noticed his interest. And he knew her. He could tell she was mighty proud of herself and he had to admit he was somewhat curious as to had just lost such a fine item.

“Who was this idiot?” Omari started saying looking mildly amused until he thought about some of her words more carefully. And then it was a more dangerous tone. “What do you mean ‘grabby’?”

That last part, of course, could easily be translated to "Who do I have to beat up?". If there were things that could make Omari take the initiative and actually pull an effort from the sandy lion it were matters that concerned his sister. Even if she was pretty good at fending for herself.

Zamora waved a paw off in the direction of the cove, " Some scuttle brain who just came into port. Can you believe he actually laid a paw on me? Said he'd be looking for me in a few months when I filled out some and could do my job as a wench." Her words were laced through with a growl, it was clear she was less then happy about it all.

" I get points for not biting off his dew claw. Captain Torin says I have to earn the male's trust, and bleeding them or handing them body parts isn't they way to do it. So I wagered him." Here she looked smug as she gazed at the cloth in front of them, " I told him if he could beat me at a game of shell and rock I'd save myself for him, but if I won, I got this pretty."

Zamora gave him a huge grin, " I won. Its the first trinket I've ever been allowed to keep. Usually Torin gets them, but I did this all on my own without him, so it mine." She lifted her crimson colored eyes to Omari's ocean ones, " There is plenty here Omari, I'd share it with you if you wanted."

If one was paying attention, they could easily see the changes in the young sandy-colored lion as his sister spoke. Something she’d said was clearly bothering him for Omari had suddenly turned very still and all traces of amusement had vanished from his expression.

“You won it, it’s yours.” He whispered, turning his face from Zamora, plainly refusing to look at her now. “What if you’d lost?”

He had some respect for Torin though he didn’t really know him that well. But if the lion was clever enough to see his sister’s potential, Omari immediately assumed the Captain was worthy of his trust. But he expected him to guide Zamora better, not to let her bet away her life in game.

Zamora's crimson eyes softened and she leaned over, nuzzling her brother's ear, " It's in the words Omairi, I said I would save myself for him...I didn't say I'd give myself to him. I don't plan on giving myself to any male."

She looked down at the cloth between her paws, " I don't trust them, not even Torrin. The only male I will ever trust is you Omairi, because you promised that you'd not let me become one of those snimpering, giggling, daft wenches." The female shuddered at the thought, " If I don't get accepted to be crew..." she let the sentence fade and kept her eyes on the bright, cheery scrap of material.
'
Sighing, she swallowed, " I'm sorry Omairi, if I worried you. Please don't be mad at me." Looking up, she gave him her best hurt little sister look, a slight tremble to her lip.

He listened to her every word, eyes fixed on the troubled waves ahead. He blinked, watching the unusual number of seagulls that were returning to land. There was a storm coming.

“I am not mad.” He said slowly as she finished, spreading each beyond reasonable. Tricky words were fine but not full proof. “But had you lost, you’d still have to wait for him or never take a mate for your entire life.” Which… maybe… wasn’t so bad. "Or break your word and run away.”

“Or wait until he died.” He considered out loud, looking for ways to escape the contract Zamora had almost got herself into. “Depending on how miserable you were, I might even have had to kill him for you.” Despite his even tone and same expression, this was nothing more than a morbid joke, of course. He would never kill anyone just so her sister could stop “saving herself” (honestly how uncomfortable could one topic get…?). Furthermore, the grave crime of killing a crew member, a comrade, was far beyond mutiny and Omari would never do something that low... well, not unless Zamora’s life was on the line. Then things got tricky. The amount of trust she seemed to place in him scared the young lion but nearly not as much at how far he knew he would go to protect his sister.

Zamora laid her head on her paws, scooting closer so she could touch her nose to Omariri's foot. " Would that be so bad, not to ever take a mate? Mama didn't, but she still loves us in her own way."

She tilted her head to the side, the sun shimmering off the white of her pelt, " I know you would Omairi, but I'd not let you. Accidents happen when you are crew, sometimes they are fatal, and sometimes, you don't even know you are sick or hurt until you come back to port." Her tail twitched behind her, and she raised her crimson eyes up to meet his sky born ones.

The look and tone of her voice showed that she had thought this through before, the way to remove an unwanted male, one who would only use her and discard her like they did all the other Wenches. As a small cub Zamora had told her brother she'd rather die then become a Wench, and now..it was clear she'd do anything to escape that fate. Anything.

Omari didn’t really like where the conversation was heading. He was not a lion of many words and the subject was fairly uncomfortable – especially when he was talking about Zamora. He watched as her nose touched his paws and sighed.

“The males seem to like being with the wenches. And the wenches like them. You might… want to… be w-with… you might think differently one day.” Even though he wasn’t sure of the mechanics of the process, he was fairly certain that males and females did something together to make babies… something that made the wenches whisper and giggle and tease any of the cubs that dared to ask about it. As for Omari, who hated feeling uncomfortable, he’d really rather not know. “We’re here so mom was with a male once, too. You shouldn’t make those kinds of promises.”

He didn’t think Zamora was capable of killing another lion so he just assumed she was also joking and didn’t really pay much attention to her last words. But he desperately needed a change of subject and he did find humor to be the best escape.

“Males will know better than to mess with you, Zamora the Sanguine.” His throat rumbled in a deep chuckle and he leaned against his sister, giving her a friendly head butt. “Even the Vikings will fear you.”

The lioness cub grinned at her brother and mushed her forehead to his, giving him a cat grin. " They better! Because if they think I am bad, wait till they meet the claws of my big brother! We're gonna be the scurage of the earth Omairi, just you wait!"

Zamora looked into his blue eyes, a twinkling, mischievous glint in her own, " Wanna go see if we can Stalk-n-Steal the Crew that just got into port?" Her tail twitched excitedly from side to side, " It will be fun.." her voice took on the sing song cadence of sibling peer pressure, " Think of the story we can tell our lame brothers tonight!"

It was fairly clear she wasn't going to take no for an answer, not this time.

“Yes, we will… Vikings have the most interesting loot.” he thought out loud, watching Zamora's grin out of the corner of his eye. “But Pirato said they’re pretty fierce so we need to watch each other’s back.”

And no, he really didn’t feel like playing. But it was pretty obvious Zamora wouldn’t take anything other his immediate acceptance to her… hum… request. Besides, there was a storm coming anyway. He could already see the dark clouds on the horizon. He wasn’t against a bit of soft rain but if there was something serious coming, getting closer to the adults might not be such a bad idea. And maybe they could even a bit of misplaced loot.

“Sure, why not?” he stood up and stretched languidly before jumping off the rock. “You’re not going to let me say no anyway.”

Zamora grinned at him, clearly pleased with herself as she stood up and wrapped the brightly colored scarf around her neck, " Nope brother mine, its not in my vocabulary."

Still grinning she jumped down from the rock and looked at him over her shoulder, already the thrill of the game lighting her crimson eyes, " Ready Omairi the Black for another adventure with your red-eyed sister Zamora the Sanguine? Cause we are going to have a lot of fun tonight."

With that she began to trot across the sand, her tail and head held high, facing the coming storm with her brother at her side.
