It was a fairly ordinary, relatively quiet day in the bookstore. Ordinary in that customers were few and far between, Belle was quietly picking books to read and organizing the shelves when she found something misplaced, Kupo was doing his best to drive his mother to distraction, and Phoebe was daydreaming about her crush.

The pink-haired preteen was sitting on the staircase that led to the living area of the shop, in a place where she could quite clearly see anyone who came in and yer remain mostly undisturbed from her daydreaming. Her older sister Kendra had gone out earlier, cigarettes in hand, and Phee was pretty glad that the older girl didn't spend much time around the rest of her family - Kendra hated everyone and was pretty hard to like, herself.

Now, Phee's crush, on the other hand... now there was a person who was completely and utterly awesome! And so good-looking, and nice, and just so much fun to be around... the pigtailed spawn sighed dramatically and her tail twitched as she lost herself in her daydreams, though her ears twitched as she listened for the approach of possible customers.

“We’re here!” Áróra exclaimed as Vilyum pulled into a parking space.

“Yep, I do believe you are correct,” Vilyum replied, taking the keys out of the ignition.

“So I can get 3 books, right daddy?” she queried.

“Yes, 3,” came his response. He then added, as he unbuckled and exited out the door, “You have your note card right?”

Checking her pockets she nodded her head and uttered, “Mmhmm.” She then proceeded to hop out the door.

Making her way to the front of the car, she pulled out the note card and started looking it over. It was a list of books and authors, so that she didn’t have to worry about forgetting an author’s name; she wasn’t particularly good with people’s names if she had never met them, especially if she only knew the name from the cover of a book. Hmm, she thought, which three to look for first….this one definitely, it has people riding around in walking machines, just like the ones daddy plays with…. and this one has zombies in space, definitely going to look for that one, but what else…

“Still trying to decide which books to get?” he asked, looking down at her.

“Yeah, I’m not sure about the third,” she replied.

“Well, let’s head in, I am sure it will come to you once we are inside,” he asserted.

At that, she nodded and then they both walked up to the entrance of the store.

Phoebe's ears twitched in the direction of the door - was someone approaching? Opening her eyes, she looked to the entrance and sure enough, there were customers. She didn't really want to be the one to deal with customers, but her J-Mama was off chasing Kupo - it looked like he'd been trying to get into the peanut butter again, the greedy thing - and so it really was up to her. With a hop, skip and a jump (quite literally), she made her way to the front of the store and offered the customers a welcoming smile.

"Hi, I'm Phoebe, do you need any help with anything? And watch your step, this place isn't as simple as it seems!"

“Hi Phoebe!” Áróra exclaimed with a mile wide grin. “How are you?!” She scurried ahead of Vilyum to the girl and added, “That’s a nice tail you have! You are very pretty! Could you help me find some books?” She then pulled her note card out of her pocket again and looking over it she stated, “I am looking for Behemoth by Scott Westerfeld, Death Troopers by Joe Schreiber, and Goblins by Brian Froud. Daddy said I could get three books! Could you please help me find them?”

Grinning as Áróra charged forward with her list of books, Vilyum added after Áróra had a chance to finish talking, “Hello Phoebe, by chance do you have any sections for books on the occult, mechanical engineering, or gaming? Also, do you carry any older rare books?”

Phoebe listened to the list of books and nodded. "I think so! It might take me a little while to find them, because I'm not that good at it yet, but I'm sure we have them," she told the other spawn, smiling brightly. She did love helping - she was just the best helper in the world! There was no-one better than her at helping and doing good things and finding books and - she was just the best, and that was all there was to it!

With an equally cheerful smile, she turned to the adult and nodded. "Uh-huh! This is a special bookstore, after all! But you might have to talk to my J-Mama about the rare ones; she keeps most of them in a place I can't get to - and believe me, I've tried."

“Really? You think you have all of them? Yay!” Áróra exclaimed. She was excited, she couldn’t wait to take them home and read them. Her daddy was very encouraging, when it came to reading; he said she had a very high reading level, which always made her smile. She wasn’t one to wait and have someone else do all the work for her though, so she was all set to follow the girl and help out if she could, as long as it didn’t take her anywhere off limits, of course.

“Thanks, I will go ask her then,” Vilyum replied. He made his way farther into the store, scanning the books that were visible as he walked, to find the woman that Phoebe had mentioned.

"Yup, we have all of them," Phoebe said, smiling brightly. "But getting to them's hard to do unless you live here.... J-Mama likes to make it a challenge to get around, and walking straight at a shelf is always going to land you elsewhere!" She added, unsure as to whether she should show the younger girl the paths through the books or not...

Jadyn was busy behind the counter, scribbling down something with silver ink, and didn't even look up to see who had entered her store. She was a busy woman, after all, and she had things to do.

“Thank you for helping me!” Áróra exclaimed, a big smile on her face. She then added, “I bet it is hard to, with all this confusing magic around!” Pointing towards the center of the store, she asked, “Why does it all seem to point away from there? Is there something secret over there?” She then leaned in a little closer to Phoebe and whispered, “I like secrets!” All the magic in the store was almost a bit overwhelming, it even seemed like it could be bigger than it had looked from the outside.

Vilyum changed his mind about going to get help and decided he would take a quick look around on his own first; without really even looked where he was going, he turned down a random aisle. You never know what you will find if you start looking in random places, after all.

"I'm... not sure," Phoebe said, unsure of what exactly the younger girl was talking about - something to do with the part of the store that she couldn't get to? How interesting.... and confusing. "No-one's supposed to go to the center, and I've tried but I get caught every time," she confessed, wondering if her customer could hlp her break in and discover what her parent kept hidden.

Jadyn immediately noticed the man heading into the shelves, despite her appearance of continued nonchalance. Where would he end up? How would the randomization spells affect him? Or would he be one of those extremely rare few who were (mostly) unaffected by the magic inherent in the store - one of the ones that she would have to personally intervene with to keep them from delving too deep? She could only watch and see.

“Daddy has magic at our house, but it’s just to keep things out, or block off places, this feel so much different,” Áróra quietly explained, “it’s weird, it’s like it disorients you and moves you about; at least that’s what it feels like. Does it teleport people?” She loved magic and sensing it, and this place was full of it. It probably wasn’t her place, but she wanted to know all about it! “I wonder that’s at the center then, it’s like the magic pushes people away!” After a moment, she stated, “You must be real good at magic to get around so easily!” She then added, with a giggle, “There are spots at my home I’m not suppose to go either, one of them is a doorway that leads to a brick wall! I know there is something past it, but I can’t figure out how to get there yet.”

Vilyum continued to wander down the aisles, seemingly at random, even occasionally turning back and back tracking for no real perceivable reason. He had come with a list of things to look for, but that didn’t seem to influence his direction in the slightest. Something would catch his interest, and he would start to head towards it for a moment, only to be distracted by something else. He wandered about with his mind constantly dwelling on a different place then he went. It is entirely possible, that were he to be teleported, he wouldn’t even notice it, but just continue making his way, looking for something to catch his eye.

"Oh, J-Mama has directions that let me go from place to place, you just have to do silly things to get where you want to go," Phoebe said, her eyes sparkling. "And I'm the best at dancing so I have no problem getting where I want to go.... except that part that J-Mama won't let anyone get near.

Jadyn watched the shopper curiously, wondering if he even realized what he was looking at. How interesting...

“What sorts of silly things?” Áróra asked. She interest was definitely piqued. What sort of things would have to be done and how would being good at dancing help? She couldn’t help but wonder if she would be any good at it; she hadn’t really done much dancing, but she was certainly light on her feet, deceptively light even. “Do you think I could do it? The things you have to do to get through?” she asked, before leaning closer to whisper, “Want to try and get to the center?”

Vilyum’s interest was suddenly caught be a nearby book. He picked it up and began looking through its pages. Face buried in the book, he continued to wander about the aisles.

"Things like twirling around, and skipping, or hopping backwards on one foot," Phoebe said cheerfully, her tail swishing a little in her excitement. "And maybe you can; we won't know until you try!" She paused for a moment, then nodded eagerly - this would be fun!

Jadyn continued to watch him, her golden eyes bright with intrigue.

Áróra smiled brightly and replied, “That sounds really fun! I bet I could do that!” She was excited, she couldn’t wait to start; she was so excited that her face tentacles were twirling about and wrapping around each other. “Ok then,” she replied, “I will follow your lead, since you know what we have to do.”

Head still buried in the book, Vilyum kept walking without looking up in the slightest. At this point, it would probably seem surprising, to an observer, that he hadn’t run into something, as oblivious to his surroundings as he seemed to be, and he kept wandering further in.

Phoebe smiled and nodded. "Alright," she said cheerfully, and then without another word she set off through the store, twirling and leaping about, sometimes skipping back a step or moving with exaggerated slowness, depending on the area's requirements.

Jadyn's left eye began to twitch, and she resisted the urge to step and and call that man back. He was ruining her fu- the order of her shop! How very rude, even if it was unintentional, and she couldn't be sure that it was.
