User Image The day had grown old and weary, giving the sky over willingly to the ever constant push for darkness. Night had just fallen and the moon shone like a pale beacon to the stars that kept it surrounded, offering what little light it could. As for Desvayne, his night vision had kicked in awhile ago, and his hunger drove him from his river home. He didn't particularly have a like or dislike to the taste of fish, and so he usually opted for a more exotic taste whenever he could afford to do so. Be that whatever it may, he didn't particularly care what it was so long as it had meat enough to fill his stomach.

His travels had taken him a few miles inland, where trees were becoming more and more present to the scenery. That was a bit of a problem for the kelpie, as it meant he needed to be extra mindful of his tail. On several occasions where he had come across such clusters, the large spines that adorned him would snag on branches, or bushes, and even the trunks of smaller trees. He had learned since then not to swish his tail about while in such closed quarters, but that's not to say he didn't still snag a few bushes here and there.

As the stallion meandered forth, his glowing golden mimic markings as well as his eerie eyes were only things visible in the darkness. That is, unless whatever laid about had a degree of night vision as well, otherwise he was but a shadow. A chill wind rustled the bushes and vegetation around him, which caused the stallion to momentarily stop and scent the wind, trying to figure out just what else may be near by. He hoped it was food, it would be nice to return to the river as soon as possible, even if it meant the long trek back through the forest.

User Image As the day had turned into night, the breeze picked up. A low growl could be heard as a thin red tongue flickered into the air. A soft chuckle could be heard as the sound of scales along the grass was known. A pair of faint glowing eyes that shown like blood, gazed upon the light beams of the moon that were coming through the leaves. The growl sounds more of a snarl when the beast took in a breath of air. Red painted the monster's long fangs from it's last kill.

It moved towards the scent of it's possible next meal. The long serpent like tail had brushed up against the bushes and scratched at the small tree trunks. "Death awaits for those who wish for shelter..." It hissed as it had quickened it's pace to find the source of the delightful scent. The trees were getting larger and cluttered closer together. The beast had to keep it's large, scaled, wings close to it's body.

The beast was only a mare, of Kirin and Kalona blood. More of a mutant to the eyes than what it really was. Her victims would never learn of her name, but she was called Fyglia.

Indeed something particularly appetizing wafted on the air tonight. He couldn't quite tell of what species the scent belonged to, but among the usual musk of forest and land-dwelling species, the kelpie picked up the something 'sweet'. The most plausible origin was probably berries or fruit that the thing had eaten earlier that day. With a quiet snort and a shake of his head, Desvayne set out at a brisk trot. In order to follow the scent trail he kept his head snaked low to the ground at first, until he was positive of its position. Luckily for him it wasn't too far off, as he found movement on land to be quite the cumbersome ordeal. He could see movement in the distance now, and the frame looked small enough to be marked as easy prey. He knew he would be easily spotted with his glowing markings, but the kelpie had learned to use them to his advantage while hunting.

"W-who's there?" a hesitant, tiny voice called out into the darkness.

And almost on cue he had been seen by his target. No matter, he had ways of playing this out. The stallion halted immediately in the distance, appearing to hesitate as if caught off guard. He wasn't sure of just what his prey's species may be, but he cared little for the details. It smelled good, and he was hungry, thus it was food. But it spoke nonetheless, and not in a tongue he understood, but rather recognized after hearing it many times before. A native two-legger, and a small one at that. Through grinning, pointed teeth the stallion called out in the meekest way possible, a neigh he had heard many uncertain land-dwelling soquili use before. He knew his mimic markings closely resembled the designs of this surface world as he had seen them before, most used on either the humans themselves or the animals they kept around them. And the fact his glowed and shown through the darkness, well, he wasn't at all surprised to hear the little thing squeak out some other words or phrases he didn't understand and then come jogging up to him. These creatures must have poor night vision, the stallion thought, otherwise it wouldn't so willingly approach.

Not that it mattered, it made his job easier. This way he wouldn't have to chase it down, for which he was certainly thankful as he knew his ungainly tail would slow him down. Des kept up his act, tossing his head uncertainly and dancing about on his hooves, which only beget more jabbering from the little creature- as if it were trying to sooth him! Had he the mind to, he would have burst out laughing. It was only as it got closer that he noticed it held something round and fuzzy in its arms, clung close to its chest. Ears pricking forward Desvayne once again scented the wind, and realized that sweet scent of berries and fruit was not coming from the little human, but its little 'pet' instead! The stallion's attention shifted to the creature and he decided with it held so thoroughly helpless and off the ground, well, what better a target? With a happy nicker the kelpie came trotting forward, locked onto the sweet, tantalizing smell of his dinner.

"That... That's a good boy! C'mon, I won't hurt you- I won't... I woooAHHHH...!"

As he had gotten closer no doubt the human creature was able to get a better look at him, and as soon as the uncertainty reached its tone once more Desvayne lunged forward to snatch at the fuzzy thing in its arms. With one solid jerk he'd torn it from its grip and sent the two-legger to the ground- to which he paid no more mind as it scrambled away into the darkness, making whatever strange noises humans made while frightened. Desvayne however, did not care to chase it. He held the sweet smelling thing for but a moment before devoring his tasty prize. He had plans to move on as soon as he finished, but little did he realize he wasn't the only thing hunting this night.

The smell of kill had filled the wind serpent's nostrils as she walked the forest grounds. Her long tail had brushed against many trees, leaving behind a few scales now and then. The low growl would become louder or quieter as she walked pass some strange creatures. Following the scent of blood, she found her to another scent of water.

"The river is not near nor is the ocean of salt..." Hissing as a thin red tongue flickered between her fangs. Her glowing eyes wandered as she searched for the being or thing that was close by. Her ears perked up as she spotted the Kelpie. Her crest of feathers had become ruffled as she felt that he would be a threat to her. Letting out a shriek as she charged towards him.

It wasn't often meals were simply handed out like that, but then this had been a rather interesting encounter. Obviously the human child had cared for this creature very much, as it was as sweet in taste as it was in smell. Something that the stallion found to be quite the treat. If it weren't for the fact he suspected attention would be drawn to his location, via the human's screaming or the smell of of a kill, he would have been content to take his time. But, this was reality, and reality told him that sticking around for much longer was not a good idea.

The kelpie would have been pleased enough to be allowed to gorge himself without interruption, but unfortunately for him that plan was out. A shrill shriek from behind caught his attention, and the bloodbath appaloosa responded with a quick flattening of his ears and jerk of his head in that direction. What a sight! Glowing red eyes of a mare whose scales shown in the moonlight- but he digressed, this was not the time for such thoughts. Effectively feeling threatened by her presence, the kelpie gnashed his shark-like teeth and squared his shoulders in her direction. He was prepared to fight her head on if she meant to steal his kill.

"GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...." Spoke the serpent as she watched him closely. She wasn't after the kill, but would be ready to fight if needed. She relaxed her wings as she watched him closely. Her crest of feathers went flat against her brow as she circled him. "Speak thy name or know your place..." She hissed in irritation while her tail swished behind her.

Well it didn't seem like she was interested in clashing with him over the lovely sweet treat, but the kelpi still didn't allow his guard to fall. The stallion's long spikes that lined his back and many other various places on his body stood rigid, sharp and thick, easily able to puncture if it came down to that. However, Desvayne flared his nostrils in what could almost be considered an amused snort as she circled him and demanded a name. "Desvayne", he offered through no pleasantry of his own, for his tone was sickened with ill-regard toward this interloper. "And what of yours, land-dweller? Even your kind must have names." As she started to near his flank the stallion moved to turn with her, keeping them both at least a length apart and refusing to allow her to get behind him. Let it be known that this particular kelpi had a severe distrust of anything not akin to the sea, and felt most vulnerable on land as he could not move as agilely as they due to his ungainly stature and features. His long, muscular tail swayed out behind him, a potent weapon if he chose to so use it as such.

Stopping as she noticed him not wanting her to get behind him. This sea-dweller was smart since he could of been killed by her hoof. "Fyglia, a proud wind serpent. Your kill had attracted me, but I see no fit in taking something so small." She spoke as she noticed the sweet smell coming from the kill. Her crest feathers swayed in the wind as she watched him. "Why would a sea-dweller be caught on land by something like myself? Asking with a long fanged smile.

As she stopped the stallion halted in place, partially turned towards her with his neck craning in her direction. Despite the relaxed posture he now stood in, Des had taken a position where he'd be able to react if he or she decided to go on the attack. Of course he had no idea just what a 'wind serpent' was, but he cared not to trudge on the subject. "Haven't you noticed? Things up here taste better", he replied with a malicious smirk, arching his neck as he took an almost playful, if not meaningful, step in her direction. He wasn't sure what he thought of her just yet, but the kelpi had a fair idea. After all, she was what he hated: someone able to out maneuver him on land. Just the thought of such a thing made his smirk seem more like a snarl. "I don't suppose something like yourself would care to partake in an evening fright?" Slowly something took form in his mind, the echoes of the human child's screams fresh and tantalizing.

Giving off a fanged smile at his suggestion."Some fright? I'd rather find a kill worth two meals, but I'd be happy to join you." She hissed lightly as enjoyed the thought of killing helpless prey on a night like this one. This made her give off a laugh, but she remembered where she was. "The best kind of kill are those gentle soquili breeds or their larger companions. Ever had Unicorn or Flutter?" Asking as her long forked tongue licked her long fangs.

Des' eerie glowing eyes were drawn momentarily to the large fangs of the beast before him, and for the life of this kelpi he couldn't help but admire their killing potential. Though, the thought of actually admitting something he liked about a land-dweller displeased him to no end. "I don't see why we can't do both, I hear fear makes for an interesting flavor," he returned with a tooth-gnashing chuckle that sounded more soothing than it should have been, given the subject. Perhaps her own enjoyment to the idea was contagious, as the kelpi didn't seem to mind expressing his own amusement to the absurd invitations flying about. Hunting with someone not akin to the sea? Blasphemous to the stallion's own beliefs! Still, the boy did enjoy reveling in sin, it was refreshing, if not somewhat foreboding to share the experience.

"Can't say I have or haven't, I don't particularly take notice of what happens to wander too close to the water's edge." And let that be her one and only warning: beware of the water; he'd drag down whatever he could get in his grasp regardless of breed or even acquaintance. He considered it down right gentlemanly of him to give her such forewarning, as it may potentially rob him of a meal had they crossed paths in his domain. With a sway of his spined tail, Desvayne flared his nostrils and scented the air around them. "I'm game for anything we can terrorize", he asserted, keeping his eyes on the female. He hadn't forgotten about those teeth of hers, and if she turned on him he'd be darn sure not to be caught off guard.

Fyglia frowned as he gawked at her prized fangs. She gave a hiss as she listened to him speak. She was intrigued by what he was speaking and his offer. She knew that she could kill him, but something in the back of her mind was telling her otherwise. "Makes the blood run thick in the prey's veins while fangs just seep into thy flesh and bone." Speaking as she got chills of excitement and blood thrist. She gave a sharp shrill as her wings moved to stretch out.

"Perhaps your own kin would find it unwise to revel in these kinds of sin for long. I find it blasphemous that they wish to partake in something so infilling and joyous as a fresh kill." Boasting and bashing on his own kind, but she had done this many a time to those of kirin or soft-hearten kalona. She grew tired of seeing those proud of hunting turn into something soft and worth a swift or pain filled death. "Then let us be on our way. those out during the day will soon be in their homes before we know it." she hissed playfully as she moved off towards the plains. She kept an eye on the kelpi in case he wanted to take a bite out of her hind.

"My kin? Some aren't even equipped for the job", the kelpi informed her in what could have almost been a matter-of-fact tone of voice, offering nothing else to the subject. Truth was, not all kelpi possessed the pointed, shark-like teeth that Desvayne did, and to his knowledge not all of them even ate meat. It was a shame really, but the stallion could not bring himself to hold it against them as he had such great compassion for the undersea species. In fact, he had half-way convinced himself he only killed the land-dwellers to ensure they would not bring harm to his kin when they ventured too far into the water. That; however, was merely a lie he told himself to give his murderous tendencies a purpose.

He gave no objection as she moved off towards the killing ground, offering an amused chuckle as he heard her hiss. It was good she kept an eye on the stallion, and better that he noticed the behavior, as it did cross his mind one too many times that a nice chunk of 'wind serpent' might taste exotic and flavorful. In pale moonlight the kelpi's mimic markings glowed faintly, while the rest of him seemed to be shrouded in the darkness. He had grown accustomed to hunting on land during the night, and had learned that the terrain was not his friend. His tail was large and cumbersome, keeping him from the speed he would need in a fully out chase, and so his tactics had evolved into something much more akin to ambush. He was curious to see how Fyglia's would differ, and he supposed that was good enough reason if any to keep himself from picking a fight with the mare- who seemed to be expecting such a thing. That too was probably a consideration, as it was impossible to ambush someone who knew you were coming.

They had traveled a good ways into the plains, scents bathing and tickling the nose with what could have been a siren's call to the kelpi. Something clean, almost sweet wafted drifted in from their right and the stallion halted, gnashing his teeth to get the mare's attention without calling out to her. Like most of his breed, his eyesight was poor on land, somewhat blurry in fact, so he could not see what it was at this distance despite his night vision. "There's something that way, shall we proceed?" he murmured lowly, a whisper of sorts, flowing and jovial in a killer's charm. Had it not been the subject of murder, one could have called it tender or beautiful. For it was kelpi in him that played its tricks and soothed its voice to fool others into comfort, and hunter in him that reveled in this sinful delight.
PostPosted: Wed Apr 27, 2011 11:35 pm

Fyglia couldn't, but let out a chuckle at his answer about his own kin. "Then I pity them for not knowing our own pleasures in killing and having the taste of blood down our throats." Gives off a wicked cackle as she continued towards the plains. Her slim tail swayed behind her, keeping track of how close the kelpi was getting to her. She knew to be cautious of him when close to watch, but land was her strong area.

The smell of something clean, yet sweet entered her nostrils. Making her eyes show that a killer had be released from deep inside her soul. Her eye sight was impeccable in the night, but had some trouble during the day light. "Indeed we shall head towards the way of that scent. It has tugged at my hunger." She hissed lightly as her pace had quickened a bit. Her wings laid close to her body as she dipped her head down a little. She caught sight of a perfect kill in her eyes. A kirin and a unicorn not too far off. Either of these would be a great meal for her, but she was unsure of the kelpie.

His ears flicked at the sound of her voice, listening intently before focusing back in the direction they were heading. In response Desvayne shot a toothy smirk in her direction as they began again with renewed enthusiasm. He took note of her posture as well, as it differed from his own. Des kept his tail out behind him, lithely swaying it as his body curved to avoid trees so it would follow in the motion, his head as well was kept at a tight arch, his chin tucked toward his chest and his ears pricked forward in order to keep his attention on the target. His movements were slow and deliberate, and with a small snort he signaled to his hunting partner as he moved to flank the pair. He would not be the first to strike, he decided, thinking it better until their prey had their eyes on something terrifying in front of them, and him coming in from out of their line of sight to further the havoc and their fear.
