It had been an unusual day for Badiah. She had no intention of testing her mother’s patience by straying away form the den for once. She hadn’t even actively hunted one of her siblings down for a game (or just hunt them if they didn’t feel like playing). Nor had she ‘explored’ the area around the den or invented some solitary game to amuse herself. She actually hadn’t done much at all during the day, and now she was just… sitting.

It was late evening now, and the small brown cub had found a shady spot some distance from the den (not too far if her mother called though), and was watching the sun set golden between the trees. She usually finished every day dirty with the activity she pursued in the light, but her fur was clean and bramble-free even now. It had been a day for thinking, and even with the sun setting Bad still looked faintly puzzled. She got up slowly and stretched deliberately. She had best do something with her evening before it got dark.

Lycaena wasn't sure where Rahim had gotten off to, she assumed he was visiting with some family after the long time away from them and she wasn't to worried about it really - he'd left her with specific instructions to stay near the other lions and not try and wander off to far into the surrounding lands. The instructions made sense...she wouldn't want to get lost or hurt in this unfamiliar territory and anyways there were many new things to see right here so the orders hadn't much bothered her, she'd come to trust and like Rahim on they're journey quite a bit and if she couldn't trust his judgement in his own homelands then where could she?

In any case Ly was enjoying herself as she wandered throughout the pride's lands, though she hadn't quite worked up the courage to speak with any of the others yet, which was somewhat unusual for her - but she didn't want to offend someone by accident and cause Rahim trouble. Surely he would introduce her once he'd finished alerting his family that he was back. She was about to turn around and head back the way she'd come when movement beneath a tree caught her attention. Why it was a young cub though what made Ly stop and take a few steps closer to the girl was her coloring...she looked remarkably like Rahim, the eyes were orange instead of red...and the stripes were of course of a different pattern, but the colors were practically identical...perhaps they were related somehow.

Well..if she were going to wander up and speak with someone she supposed a cub would be a good choice, cubs were usually pretty friendly and this one didn't look as though she were in the middle of anything - in fact she looked a bit confused about something. Her mind made up Ly padded towards the young cub with a pleasant look on her face. "Hello there" She greeted the cub.

Bad paused before she could trot off to find some activity, as a pale lioness was approaching. She cocked her head slightly. It wasn’t very often that adults (besides her mother) approached her. It had happened a few times, but Pads usually seemed the most uncomfortable or difficult about it. She supposed idly that interacting with fellow Banus was less of a problem for whatever reason.

“Evening,” she said with a nod. She wasn’t sure what the lioness wanted, but she was curious enough to force conversation through the awkward moment. “I’m Banu Bad – well, Badiah, but call me Bad. What’s your name?” It was the first time she had titled herself in greeting someone in the proper way, and she decided immediately that it felt stupid to do.

Bad? That was certainly an interesting name, Ly wondered briefly if her parents has named her with such a possible nickname on purpose or if they just hadn't thought about it until afterwards..and furthermore did the young lioness live up to the nickname? She didn't seem to right now but then she hadn't really been around her long enough to know. Ly decided that in the end she didn't much care because talking to anyone was better then wandering about aimlessly as she had been doing so far.

"Lycaena" She supplied her name without really thinking about it and then flicked her tail slightly with a chagrined look on her face "Banu Lycaena...or so Rahim tells me I shall be called, Most people just call me Ly" She told the cub with a slight smile - she rather preferred the nicknames in the long run, imagine how bothersome it would be to constantly be running about repeating titles and long names whenever you spoke to someone.

Bads tail flicked as she thought. Ly was an easier name to keep up with, but more interesting was the way she’d fumbled with the title. She and her siblings were still practicing, but she didn’t see why an adult would have an issue remembering introductions unless…

Her expression lit up suddenly. “Are you new here?” she asked quickly. Her mother had been brought back to the pride by her father on his quest, but Bad had yet to meet a newly brought back Banu. She’d long wondered if newcomers were different somehow. Like, maybe they changed after being in Ukuucha'Wafalme lands for a while.

Well there was a clue as good as any that she'd fumbled up her introduction if a cub had picked up on the fact that she was new to the area so quickly. Laughing slightly she sat down, curling her tail about her forelegs. "Well yes..I expect you could say that" Ly remarked "Rahim told me a bit about the pride and its titles of course and I hope I don't offend while I'm here" She told the cub. Surely visitors were excused somewhat right? She supposed she ought to tell the cub that she was only visiting so that any other mistakes she made might be overlooked.

Not that a cub was likely to take offense so easily as an adult. "I'm from quite a way's off" She told the cub 'when Rahim told me of all the wonderful things he had seen on his journey I just knew i had to see them as well and now we've ended up back here where he started. i don't know how long I'll be staying..i'm just visiting you see, until Rahim takes me home or points in the right direction if he's staying"

It started out as a twitch in her brow, but the more the pale lioness said, the more puzzled Bad’s expression became. By the time Ly had finished explaining her visitor status, Bad was looking at her as if she was growing a horn from her forehead. She wasn’t quite sure how to explain this. It was pretty apparent though that Rahim had brought her back from his quest for his own. It would have been funny if Ly didn't seem so nice. Bad cleared her throat, stalling, and finally said, “If you’re a Banu though, then you’re his Banu. Banus don’t, um, leave.”

Somewhere throughout her speech Ly had become aware that she was confusing the cub - but she couldn't figure out exactly how, she was speaking plainly enough and surely the cub couldn't be daft enough so as not to understand when she meant. Bad had the look of an intelligent creature but the look she was giving her at the end had Ly herself confused and she almost off handedly glanced down at herself - perhaps something gross had gotten stuck to her fur and she hadn't noticed?

But no Bad seemed to be confused by something else and it was Ly's turn to be puzzled "Don't leave?" She questioned "Surely some do...even back home lions and lioness came and went a good deal.." She paused sudden;y keying in on another word the little cub had spoken "His...banu? I'm his friend....is that what you mean?" Rahim had never really elaborated on the Banu titled except to say that was how Lioness and other females were to be addressed, but Bad seemed to be implying it had a greater meaning.

Bad shook her head with certainty. “Banu, the girls, we don’t leave unless your Pad takes you with him, but that’s rare and you have to come back with him.” Her expression became mildly troubled. How was she to explain the meaning of these things? Even Bad, who was beginning to realize she didn’t like all the rules that made the pride work, couldn’t fathom how this lioness could miss something so obvious. “Look, all the grown up boys are Pads. When they’re old enough, they have to leave and bring back at least one Banu for their harem. See, the Pads have harems, and the lionesses are the Banus in the harems. I’ll stay in my father’s until I’m of age for, um, a Pad.” She said that with a touch of embarrassment, but her own concern about that arrangement wasn’t important now. “And you’re in Rahim’s if he’s the one who brought you back. You’re supposed to live here now.”

Ly's face went from confused...to worried...to down right panicked as Bad went on with her explanation. She'd had fun with Rahim on the trip here - he'd kept up his end of the promise and taken her to see many beautiful things along the way...but he'd never mentioned any of the things Bad had just told her. Oh sure, he'd told her that he was a Pad and she'd be called a Banu but she'd assumed those were just titles, she hadn't fathomed that they could mean ...this.

Was she trembling? She tried not to tremble, not in front of Bad anyways and if she wasn't so shocked she was pretty sure she'd feel more then just a little bit stupid. How in the world had she not known this ? Figured it out somehow? Of course she had never expected this sort of thing...who did? She hadn't even known a Pride with this sort of make-up existed and she doubted anyone else from her old home did either. "I ah...I think I need to speak with Rahim..." She finally managed to squeak out, she had tried to keep the uncertainty and worry from her voice but she didn't think she had succeeded very well.

Bad’s concern increased each time the older Banu’s expression changed. How could she not know these things? Obviously, Rahim hadn’t told her, but how could he lie to one of his own Banus like that? Bad had heard that Pads could do anything necessary to bring their harem back with them to the pride, but she had thought they would just sweet talk, make promises, and maybe the worst ones would try and bully them into it, but this sort of broad deception was disturbing.

She glanced away from Ly as the Banu began to shudder. It was uncomfortable and somehow disturbing to see an adult behaving this way, and she felt well in over her head. “I think you should too,” she said quietly, half hoping the lioness would run off and sort this problem out herself. Bad was too young and too confused to understand this moment well, though she would remember it.

It was wrong of her to behave this way in front of such a young cub - Ly knew this and she was equally certain that she would regret it later. Later..after she'd spoken with Rahim and cleared everything up. This had to be a mistake you see...some sort of miscommunication or something..surely he couldn't hve lied to her as deeply as the cubs words seemed to indicate. "I'm sorry Bad..it..it was nice to meet you" She told the young cub "Thank you..for the information" She managed to further strangle out before she turned and fled back the way she'd came.
