They were finally on the path towards the abandoned town, but Sin tried not to think of it as abandoned. She slowly loosened her death grip on Rosc and Alcie's hands and tried to smile. It was hard though because the further they got along the path the more she noticed the oppressive silence. If silence itself could be a sound it would deafen her with it's roaring. She was tempted to talk or even sing just to break the horrible weight of it. Except Rosc had already been attacked and she was afraid of drawing attention. Between their little group though she felt safer, they weren't a large easy target, but nor were they solitary and defenseless.

The fog was playing tricks with her though, every once in a while her head would jerk, her eyes narrowing. She knew it would be crazy to say out loud but Sin thought she saw things in the fog. Familiar shapes, and her mothers voice echoed in her mind warning her that a reaper would steal her away if she wasn't careful. Her knuckles were pale from the tight grasp she had on her first aid kit. She hadn't even noticed the way the little red cross on the front of the empty metal box slowly changed shape until it was a broken heart. Her fear seemed to be melting onto the crude weapon the further they went.

Rosc disliked this place more with every passing moment. He had felt Sin relax slightly, but he only became more tense, alert. They were approaching the abandoned town now, he was thankful that Sin had more sense than some of their classmates, considering she had chosen the destination over lighthouse or, Jack forbid, the cornfield. Who in their right mind thought that going into a field of anything that could be taller than you was a good idea?
You could so easily get lost or snuck up upon.

He looked down for a moment and frowned a bit. His branch was wavering a bit, its image fading from the gnarled piece of wood it was into a more refined stick, polished and covered in thorns. If he didn't know any better, he'd think that he was using an illusion on it, but that didn't make sense. He could still see fairly well and he wasn't actually trying. How odd...

Something moved off to one side, he thought he saw a glimpse of hair dashing into the fog.
"Anyone else think our FEAR might be acting up?" he asked softly, still frowning at where he had seen the retreating figure. Or... at least thought he'd seen.

Sin nodded at Rosc slowly, but her gaze was far in the distance, they had been walking for what felt like forever. Had it been minutes? hours? days? She felt oddly disoriented and then her back felt lighter and she blinked reaching to adjust the strap of her pack on her shoulder...but it was gone.

"What the..." She spun around and the fog seemed to be closing in her friends fading from her sight before she stumbled over her flashlight. She frowned and grabbed it then knelt and felt around grabbing her bag and putting it inside. "Rosc!? Alcie? Vivi?" She looked around confused and gathered up her things blinking as she suddenly saw more scraps of paper then she had originally had in the pack. She tried to grab them all and stuff them in her bag but she was more worried about her friends.

She looked up and relaxed smiling as she saw what looked like Rosc in the distance. Except...darker...whole wings...just like her Raven, she stood with a jerk and ran towards the shape. Then she froze and looked around dazed, wait..he had been there a moment ago. She reached into the fog and frowned, where was everyone? "ROSC! ALCIE! VIVI!" Her chest rose and fell frantically as she felt panic start to set in.

Rosc felt Sin's hand leave his and he turned in time to see her vanish into the fog. Disconnected from Alcie and Vivi, they faded away into the fog. And then he heard something that almost made his heart stop.

"Who's Mommy's little charmer? You are!"
No...
Rosc's head snapped to one side as a chill ran through him. No... No, it couldn't...
"Sweetheart, where are you? Mommy doesn't like it when she can't find her Roshy." That voice... Rosc's hand clenched around his branch as he strained to hear and yet everything in him wanted to fight against the call.

"Oh, there you are." A figure emerged from the mists of Rosc's mind, a beautiful demoness with a perfect figure and long dark hair. Her wings were feathered like his, he knew they were black and soft. She would wrap him in them when he was a babe. His heart felt as if someone was squeezing it, harder and harder, there was nothing he could do but take a step towards the vision, his branch falling to the ground with a thunk.

"Mommy missed you, Roshy, my treasure. Why won't you give me a hug?"
"Mommy..." His words were almost inaudible even to his own ears. But when he took a step towards the voice, something flashed through his mind. The vision was cut in half and filled with pain, but he'd seen it. She was lying on her back on the hardwood floor, one arm fallen to one side, eyes wide in the ragged remains of her once beautiful face. Her hair was torn out in places, the rest of it soaked in the sticky red liquid that pooled around her. There were feathers everywhere, one whole wing had been torn clean off and tossed away.

"NO!" Rosc finally shouted, shutting his vision and pressing his hands to his ears. He stepped on something and stooped to pick up the flashlight from his bag that he suddenly realized was no longer on his shoulder.
Clinging to the light as a child might a favorite toy, he could hear other voices in the fog, his aunt singing a sweet lullaby to him, telling him that he couldn't trust anyone, least of all someone that he thought loved him. He heard Sin calling his name, was she really there? Or was she just a product of this damned fog, too?
She was crying his name, Alcie's, Vivi's. She was frantic sounding, he couldn't bear it.
"Sin?!" he called back, bringing his vision back up to look around. He found a few pieces of map when he did so, quickly snatching them up before they were eaten by the fog.

Sin stumbled in fog her ankle throbbing as she wobbled on her high heels and she considered just yanking the damn things off. Except she wouldn't of course, beauty was pain sometimes. Except what good was beauty here? This fog so thick she couldn't even see her arms infront of her? Then suddenly it was as if her frantic swirling in the fog were a dance and again the vision of her Raven was there with her. He smiled a charming smile, pointed teeth gleaming. She felt her lips curve in a returning smile and slowly thoughts of her friends faded, thoughts of Rosc faded. This was a beautiful moment, she shouldn't spoil it with trifling matters. She had to hold onto to this dream, she reached out to step into the dark embrace and whacked into Rosc's chest.

She blinked and looked up disoriented and then hugged him as she remembered Alcie and Vivi. "Rosc! This fog is so horrible...so horrible..." She shivered and then looked back up slowly withdrawing and taking a step back. Had Rosc's eyes always seemed so sinister? Once she had believed they glowed with warmth, but now...now she was worried. Maybe she shouldn't trust Rosc, after all he had lied to her before. What if he wasn't really her Raven? What if her Raven was in the fog waiting for her and Rosc was just tricking her away? Where were her friends? Were they really even her friends? What if she was just a useful alliance to them? Maybe they were just useful alliances to her? She stood and held her empty first aid kit a little tighter, a little higher as if trying to decide if she should hit someone or not.

Something ran into him.
Rosc looked down just in time to see Sin hug him, then pulled away to step back. She looked more wild now, less held together than she normally was. Was it really Sin? She looked different... His mind was starting to question everything in this place, even his own companions.
But she was solid... would his mother have been solid if he had tried to touch her? Would she have pulled away from him if he had tried, made him chase her deeper into the fog? Was the the game being play-

Sin had finished talking and his vision caught movement at her side, the arm she held her first aid kit in was moving. Upwards.
Quick as lightning, his free hand latched onto her wrist, firm but with no intent to cause her pain.
"I could forgive you for the earlier accident and when you punched me in confused anger, but if you try and hit me now, you'll find how defensive and unforgiving I really can be, dear Sin." His voice was low, warning thick within as he tried to keep his wavering gaze on her instead of turning away to the sources of sound around him, voices that shouldn't exist or if they did shouldn't be on this island.
"If you're you, I don't want to hurt you, but I'm not sure what's real right now..."

Sin was actually considering taking another step back nothing looked right anymore. Nothing seemed as safe as it had, but she couldn't, she couldn't leave Rosc, and Alcie, and Viveca. She was afraid but she had to be brave had to be strong in the face of what was happening. She jolted shocked and looked at Rosc her lips parting in surprise as his hand gripped her wrist. For a moment she felt her leg twitch, her fathers voice in her mind. If your ever grabbed Sin don't think you're truly caught. Yank down, sweep your leg, you can send your opponent off balance and get away. Why wasn't she moving? Why wasn't she disabling Rosc? No...because he...he wasn't an enemy, he was scared too. Except he didn't look scared, he looked...dangerous. She yanked her hand free and hugged herself pulling Rosc's coat tighter around herself and glaring at him for a moment before her head dropped.

"This place...it's this horrible fog..." Again she felt her eyes stinging with tears but she straightened and pointed instead. The silence here was driving her crazy they had to keep going.

"Come on...we shouldn't dawdle...the town must be nearby...and I'm famished." She looked at her friends again warily her eyes narrowing for a moment before she slowly tried to slip her fingers back in Rosc's hand, her other loosened a bit on the first aid kit as she tried to touch Alcie's fingers as well. She thought she heard something behind her...music...beautiful music and laughter. It seemed like it would be so much nicer to turn back...but she stepped forward and almost fell as her ankle wobbled under her.

The fog didn't seem as bad when your friends were beside you. They had decided to head towards the Abandoned Town and it seemed like a pretty harmless choice at the time. Alcie's mind felt calmed and relaxed and she would fight back if anything tried to hurt them now. She would have never imagined what happened next.

One moment she was fine and the next moment her head was spinning. What was going on? Alcie felt her let go of Sin's hand and drift off into the fog. You're no good. What kind of daughter are you? Her mother's voice echoed through her head as clear as the fog in front of her. Why do you have to cause some much trouble all of the time? "No..." Alcie shook her head unhappily and tried to shake the horrid voices out of her head. "I'm not a bad daughter." Talking to herself, Alcie tried to reason this out. There was no way that this could be happening. These thoughts had been lurking in the back of her thoughts for a long time but they had never affected her like this before. Nobody will want to be your friend if you act this way. She had friends! Alcie's thoughts were in turmoil and she had no idea how to get rid of them.

Her tone of voice began escalating as the thoughts began to envelope her. "No, no, NO! I'm not alone!"

Alcie had only wandered a few feet away from Sin and Rosc but she couldn't see them through the fog. Curling up on the ground, Alcie was so confused and she had no will or motivation to get up. The voices continued to haunt her thoughts as she sat on the ground. She then realized that the pack that was on her shoulder was gone? Was somebody around her? Paranoia overwhelmed Alcie as she sat trying to get rid of the voices in her head.

Her reaction was too honest. She looked shocked, then angry, then... Rosc wanted to hug her, to take her and her friends away from this. It was messing with them and none of them needed to be subjected to this. His mother's dulcet voice still echoed in his mind, his aunt's poison words still whispering in his ear.

He felt her fingers reach towards his and wrapped his fingers around hers, squeezing lightly for a moment, reassuring her that he was there, and vice versa. She was right, after all. They needed to keep moving, to try and get out of this situation. But as they started to continue on, Sin stumbled and Rosc dropped his branch in order to catch her. He looked down to see if she had tripped on something, seeing instead how swollen her ankle was.

"Have you been walking in those shoes this entire time?" he asked, frowning slightly. He shook his head, trying to rid it of ghostly warnings. He lowered his voice slightly. "I could carry you..."
He glanced away at a swirling in the fog and noticed that they'd lost part of the group.
"I don't see Alcyone." He thought he might have heard her voice... But he wasn't certain.

"Yeah...I have...but it's okay." She tried to force the grimace of pain into a half smile but Rosc probably knew her too well for her usual facade to work. Then she looked around worried her fingers sweeping the fog. Hadn't Alcie just been there? She had reached for her hand but now...she turned and looked around fearfully.

"ALCIE!" Okay screaming in this horrible place was probably a stupid move, she quickly shut her mouth. Her voice lowered as she looked at Rosc a bare whisper. "Alcie...she's in the fog..." Sin was frantic, if only they could keep sight of one another it wouldn't be so bad...but this. Then a horrible thought occurred to her, what if Alcie wanted to be in the fog? What if she'd escaped them on purpose? What if she was working against them? She stopped calling for her and stood tense before looking ahead, should they just move on? No...no she couldn't leave her friends.

Alcie never cried and showing emotion wasn't exactly second nature to her. Though as the tears welled up in her eyes, Alcie could do nothing to stop them from falling to the ground. "I don't want to be a bad daughter." Her voice was trembling as she spoke to herself. The voices seemed to be getting farther and farther away from her but they were still echoing in her head. Her head was clearing up and she suddenly remembered where she was and why she was here. Only a few moments ago, Alcie had realized that her pack had disappeared but when she pat her shoulder again, she realized that it was back. Was that a part of the insanity?

"Sin? Rosc?" Her voice was soft at first and then she slowly grew louder and louder. "Sin! Rosc! Where are you guys?" She clutched her head as her mother's voice rang through her head once again. Alcie began regaining her senses and realized that it must be the fog or the abandoned town that was doing this to her. Were Sin, Rosc and Vivi affected the same way she was? She couldn't have gotten far away from the group but why couldn't she find them? What kind of island was this?
PostPosted: Wed Mar 23, 2011 2:34 pm

"Sure it is," Rosc muttered a bit with a small shake of his head.
As Sin called out for Alcie, he stooped to pick up his branch... And his empty pack... How it had gotten there, he didn't know and didn't question it. He could do so later when he had time and didn't need to focus on other things.

He stuffed the map pieces and flashlight back into it and slung it over his shoulder. He straightened, tree branch tucked carefully under one arm. Once he was standing again, he grabbed Sin and more or less swept her off her feet, one arm beneath her knees, his other arm and part of the branch at her back.
"We'll find her," he replied, giving her the best possible reassuring smile. Only it wasn't really that great, things were too tense for him to really be able to smile.

"Alcie, if you can hear me, call out! Keep talking!" he called out into the fog. He thought he had heard her voice earlier. This fog seemed intent on separating them.

Sin gave a tiny gasp as Rosc literally swept her off her feet, well...that was...hmm. She felt her cheeks heat up her skin flushing, but she didn't have time to examine the warm fuzzy feelings. She clung a bit to Rosc's shoulder and resisted the urge to tuck her head against it instead looking around for her friend. It felt good to be off her injured leg, but she knew Rosc couldn't just carry her all the way to the town.

"Alcie!" She called out but at least now her volume was moderated, not too loud, but not frightened and soft either. She just wanted to find everyone and get moving again. This fog was deceptive and dangerous and she needed to get them all into somekind of sheltered location so they could figure out what the heck was going on.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 23, 2011 6:36 pm

She began seeing figures moving all around her and Alcie didn't know how to deal with the paranoia. She just wanted to stop and curl up into a ball until the fog cleared... if it would ever clear. The water demon heard the footsteps getting closer to her and something inside of her told her to go towards that sound. Alcie gave an audible sigh of relief as she realized that her gut was right when Sin and Rosc appeared in front of her. "Oh thank goodness. I'm so sorry I keep disappearing. I have no idea what came over me." She didn't want to mention the fact that she was hearing things in case the other two weren't feeling the affects of the abandoned town or else it might alarm Sin.

"This place is weird. I don't like it at all." Her voice was still trembling and she could still see the dark figures moving all around them. Insanity was not a pleasant place and she hated this town. All of her vulnerabilities had been brought to light whether or not there were people around to hear her panic attack. How was she supposed to escape them?

Rosc actually felt his shoulders relax slightly when they came upon Alcie in the fog. They were losing track of one another way too easily and much as he didn't much care for too much company, these were Sin's friends, who had done nothing to him (yet), and he did not want to see any harm come to them. It would upset Sin and he didn't think they would have deserved it. Hell, no one he knew deserved this kind of thing... Well, those Reapers could use a taste of their own medicine. He was still pretty banged up from the last encounter, but Sin was light. Oh, he couldn't carry her forever, but for a little while wouldn't be too hard.

"We need to stick together. No more breaking from the group, physically. As soon as we lose contact, the fog separates us," he said, somewhat taking charge. His hands were full at the moment, but Sin could grab someone's hand.
"Does anyone see the town? This fog is screwing with my sight." He didn't really want to admit to the weakness, but it was true and they needed to know that he wouldn't know where to turn them. On a plus side, if any malevolent force heard it, they might think him weaker for it, which wasn't exactly true.
