Destiny City, under cover of darkness, was a perfect place for slinking. For slinking, and sneaking, and steathily sliding from shadow to shadow. In the absence of light, a single teal eye gleamed. Even with vision cut in half, Masahiro's night vision was better than most, the city unable to hide from him.
The city wasn't the only thing unable to hide from Masahiro. He paused, a paw raised in the air. The cool night air ruffled his fur, but couldn't penetrate his fluffy insulation. What was a cold night for a human was barely cool for a cat. A pink nose twitched and Hiro's head swung slowly from left to right, testing the direction. What he sensed had nothing to do with his nose, but was rather psychosomatic. His mind thought his nose should have something to do with it, and so his body complied by linking sense of smell with the sixth sense of his species. Somewhere out there in the city, someone special was calling to him, a guiding beam of light in the night.
He shouldn't have been out here. This wasn't the way his introduction was supposed to go. But that glowing spark in his head just wouldn't be denied, once he'd realised what, who, it was. So Hiro did was he did best - he slunk. He snuck out of where he should have been waiting, for introductions, for assignments, to take matters into his own hands. Or paws, rather. Official meetings could still take place as scheduled - Hiro was just going to inspect his new assignment with his own feline senses.
Closer and closer he drew to his target, the guiding light brighter and brighter in his mind. Until at last he stood in front of a building, several stories looming above him. What he searched for was in here, he could tell. But how to enter?
Hiro backtracked along the street until he found a thin gap between buildings. No human could have fit through, but cats did as cats must. It was a tight squeeze even for him, but he made it through to the alley behind the building without leaving any fur or blood behind. With the aid of a fire escape, Hiro began climbing.
Things became trickier once reaching the correct floor. His hind legs gathered beneath him, his back legs bouncing one after the other as he sized up the distance to the next windowsill. Hiro leapt. Claws scrabbled for grip as he nearly overshot his mark. Damn impaired depth-perception. He'd lived with it for long enough now that he rarely made these sorts of mistakes. It must have been the change in location, or the worry over this assignment. His next leap was much more like it - graceful with a quiet landing. One more and the blinding light in his head told Hiro that he'd reached his destination.
Hiro was torn between relief and annoyance when he found the window open. It made his job of breaking and entering much easier, but at the same time, it was a horrible security flaw. Anyone could enter! Even one of those naive cats of the White Moon. Hmph. They'd better not dare, he huffed to himself as he walked through the open window with regal bearing. His leap to the floor was soundless, as was his progress across what appeared to be a living room. A crouch, a bound, and he was sitting on one arm of a sofa, tail curling around his legs and flicking gently back and forth. He ran a critical eye over the girl sleeping there.
She didn't look like much, Hiro thought. The faint light painted her blonde hair silvery pale. Like so many humans, it was near impossible to think that this sleeping, helpless creature could be any kind of dangerous when awake.
He'd heard vague rumours of the bad times the agents here were currently going through. One rumour had said that this girl had been involved, had escaped and sounded the alarm. Was it that incident that made her huddle up in her sleep, occasionally twitching and making pained noises in the back of her throat?
Hiro had meant this to be a critical, information gathering expedition. He really had. One corrupt senshi was just like another, even if he was to be personally assigned to one. He found his resolve wavering as he watched the girl. Maybe it was the knowledge of what she'd just gone through, or the wounded-animal noises she was making. Perhaps it was the bright light she gave off in his head. In any case, he found himself placing one paw in front of another to slink across the sofa. Nudging himself under one lax arm, he curled up by the girl's chest.
There's something about her light, he thought, as the warmth drugged his head and turned it fuzzy with sleep. For all that it should simply be informing Hiro that this was a senshi, this was Alkaid, and these were her powers... for all that she was clearly corrupted, just like Hiro... there was something warm about that light. Clearly that was an issue for another day, though.
Surrounding to the pull of sleep, Hiro unconsciously began a reassuring purr that rumbled through his chest and enveloped his senshi. Safety and warmth and companionship - these were all hers, now that her Guardian Cat was here.
