We all have reasons to get a game whether its graphics to gameplay. What are things do you look for in a game?

I look for every little thing. Since I'm close to broke half the time. I want to spend my money wisely even if I'm renting. For example When I played the Killzone 3 Demo, I was looking for if the aimming felt right which it didn't so I died alot. So I Might not buy the game even if the story seemed ok.

For myself, it depends purely on the genre I'm looking at. RPGs, I look for a good story, decent graphics, and workable gameplay. Shooters, I look for challenging AI, great gameplay, decent graphics and maybe a joke or two. Strategy games, got to have a decent AI, good graphics, and cool maps.

If a game presents an acceptable and intriguing storyline, I will try out the demo/buy the game.

If a game presents excellent and smooth gameplay, I will try out the demo/buy the game.

If a game belongs to a particular game franchise/game company, I will try out the demo/buy the game.

If a game is being overtalked by the people who surround my environment, I will try out the demo/buy the game/build up an irrational hate for the game.

If a game is introduced to me by a friend/family, I will try out the demo/buy the game/steal it from them.

If the game is part of the strategy/RPG genre, I will try out the demo/buy the game.

If the game is part of the sports genre, I will never try out the demo/buy the game.

LOL, I agree with that. I saw the point in sports games. Why buy them when you can play them yourself. xd

I look for games with an interesting story and decent graphics. I'm generally attracted to the horror games and puzzle games. I enjoy RPGs occasionally. If my friends are with me I'll play almost any game as long as it's multiplayer.

I'm slightly creeped out by the fact that that is exactly me. METUS. I DO NOT APPRECIATE YOU BEING ME!

Definitely me. I will buy the game, play through it, and then tell everyone all of the bad details. As the saying goes, "Once you see it, you will never unsee it." Sooner or later, they will share my hate.

I also look for every little thing... being my money is also tight :/ Although I will buy games for a different reason each time.
Like one game i might buy for the awesome story while another game i might get just because all my friends are on the multiplayer.

I do my best to look for something unique. Cookie cutter games are boring. The gameplay matters more than graphics to me. Seriously, who cares if there's more bloom!?! I just want something fun and unique. You can make a perfectly good game without all that bloom and layered up specular rendering. As long as the interface doesn't suck, I'm okay with it. I sometimes like sandboxes too. Creativity for the win~

Hands down, charm. But that is more of an accumulation of traits and an atmosphere, rather than one specific aspect of a game. It can not exactly be 'chosen' or programmed. It just happens, or does not happen. So excluding this...

Beyond anything else, Replay Value. That ties into Gameplay, which would come second. If a game is amazingly enjoyable in gameplay, but has no replay value, I will enjoy it for one span of the game then... well, that is it.

If the game, however, is FUN to play but not like the absolute best... and yet it has a lot of replay value? I am going to play it endlessly.

A game that is a lot of fun but has no replay is a rental. A game with fun gameplay and a lot of replay is purchase material.

Ultimately? I look for these following traits in order...

Charm > Replay Value > Gameplay > Sound > Storyline > Graphics

I'm usually drawn to games with good storylines and plenty of character development and this comes from my love of writing and creating characters of my own. Of course, if the gameplay mechanics are sloppy, tedious and just all around a**, then I won't even give it a second glance, let alone buy/rent the damn thing. I also happen to like games that give you enough of a challenge that leaves you feeling accomplished after all is said and done. And replay value is another big factor for me because if I'm paying $60 a pop, I better get enough out of the game until it's scratched all to Hell.
