Watching it now. :3
I wonder if our constant sucking of oil from underground reserves are also a cause of earthquakes. I have read that glacial melting relieves pressures on the earth which then move. Perhaps removal of oil also causes shifts.
The real problems comes from the glamorization of the Western world. The part about China opting for houses instead of pagodas is resulted from the West as being more desirable than their own culture. Western world is run by a monetary system + consumerism and only works while someone is in debt. It feeds on itself with the "$ > spend > debt > $" cycle.
Watching the caribou and the fishing made me think: and the weak shall inherit the Earth. Humans are the only species that goes for the strongest and healthiest animal rather than the oldest or weakest. (Think of wolves going after a pack of elk - the wolves will single out the oldest and weakest and take it down, not the strongest.) This system no doubt has huge affects on current species.
I like how it does end more positively. I hate, hate, when documentaries put the fear or whatever in you and then go "ooh! hey, thanks for listening, kthnxbai".
