Har'koa had been raised to firmly believe that balance was in all things. When Ligi had started making life in the Ashnai'le a little more difficult, Koa wasn't entirely sure where the balance was in that. She had always considered herself an intelligent lioness. Gentleness was prevalent in her life, it was simply how she'd been raised. She was still young with Sahen had become Shatkona -- she could remember the pride before his rule. She still had hope that one day balance would return to the pride, but she was wise enough never to speak outwardly about her hope. No, Har'koa wasn't stupid. At least, that's what she told herself as she lugged a huge haunch towards the Jaw. She despised coming close to this place. Koa's intentions were just to offer the leg to whichever Ligi she came across first and then run. Kill them with kindness, that's what her mother had always told them.

Jabari yawned again as he headed for the jaw, trying to keep his eyes open. This life wasn't easy to begin with, but now that he couldn't sleep (as if he could really sleep before Sitaki came, hah!) life was even harder. Once the yawn was done he stopped, blinking at the sight of the huntress heading for the jaw. Man she was a beauty. Mentally he slapped himself for that thought, since he had enough female troubles on his paws already. "I can take that," he said roughly, tiredness roughing up his already raspy voice. He sounded too harsh, and she was only doing her job (unlike another huntress he'd rather not think about.)

Koa was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't see the Ligi approach until he spoke. She almost dropped the haunch on the ground and had to collect herself. No, it would not serve her purpose to flash him a scowl. Calm, cool and collected, that was Koa. That had always been Koa.
Dipping her head she gently laid the flesh at the Ligi's feet. "Of course," she said softly, offering him a genuine smile. While many despised the Ligi (sometimes even Koa disliked their purpose in the pride), Often times Har'koa went out of her way to be nice to them. She knew what others said of her, she heard the whispers. They worried for her. It had been done before, unsuspecting females dragged away against their will to be used as entertainment by the Ligi.
Tilting her head to the side, Koa watched him. He looked tired, exhausted. "You look beat," she said softly.

He looked at the jaw, then at her, contemplating his answer to that. "I'm fine," he said finally. He picked up the haunch and tossed it into the den with a flick of his neck. "Looks like I won't be getting a nap in there," he muttered, turning to the path that led to the top of the weeping lion.
He was so tired that he almost miss-stepped. It made him stop and look down at his paw with confusion. He never missed a step! Especially here, where he had grown up!

Koa frowned the slightest when he tossed the leg carelessly inside the jaw. She watched it disappear into the darkness of the cave before turning her attention to him. Koa wasn't completely sure why she followed him as he turned up the path that led to the top of the weeping lion. When he did misstep, she was there to brace him though he didn't seem to be in danger of tripping.
"Careful," she muttered, clearing her throat once she was assured he was in no danger of falling. "Sorry, I don't mean to be a bother." Koa offered a faint smile. "I am Har'koa. Call me Koa. Let me help you up the path?"
She'd been in the pride for the entirety of her life. While she'd seen this Ligi in particular here and there (and had seen him grow up -- she was older than he, after all), embarrassingly enough she'd never stopped to introduce herself.

"It's fine," he said. "I grew up on this," he added absently as he started up the path, keeping his balance much better now that he was concentrating. Wow, that had sucked. He prided himself on his balance and ease of movement above all else, and here he was making a hash of it.
He finally reached the top, heading for his usual spot in the grass and laying down. "Now's your chance to kill me," he told her with another yawn. "I'd break my neck and shove me off the top, telling people I was so tired I lost my balance coming up. They know I've lacked sleep lately, they won't think too much about it..."

At first she wasn't sure she'd heard him correctly. After realizing that yes, she had heard him tell her that now was her time to kill him, she scowled at him. The frown that marred her pretty face was intense, and more than anything it was the expression of one who had been utterly and completely offended.
It took a lot to upset Har'koa, and he'd pushed her to that edge. She had yet to step over the precipice, but she was close. Very close. Inhaling deeply she made an attempt to curtail those emotions that she despised; anger, rage, fury... Koa knew there was no point in feeling those emotions.
Her voice was tight when she spoke. "You Ligi are all the same, aren't you? I have to admit, this is the first time I've ever had one of you be rude to me outright, but I guess I shouldn't have expected niceties."

He opened on eye, looking at her blankly and trying to concentrate on her words. "I'm just telling you what I would do in your position," he said, yawning again. "First I would take out all the ligi, one by one, then when the Shatkona was exposed--"
He yawned again, curling up like a cub to sleep. "But I would have more friends for that one. Oh wait, the only friends I have are my brothers. They have to do this crappy job, too." His voice was a bit light, since he was almost asleep--
Wait... wasn't he supposed to not talk to people about this?

"Hush yourself!" Koa whispered loudly, glancing around as if someone might be listening. What was he going on about!? She'd never heard such words from a Ligi, of all lions. Koa recognized that he was nearly asleep and was probably talking dream-words, but he could still get in trouble if another Ligi heard him. They were everywhere, watching and waiting. "They'll kill you if they hear you talk like that, fool. You're a Ligi. You should know better," she chastised, brow furrowing.
For a lion that was supposed to serve under the Shatkona, he sure made it seem as if he despised his duties.

He woke up, knowing exactly what he had said. "But as a Ligi, don't you think it's my duty to know how the opponents think?" he asked her, his eyes clear. He'd been trained better than this, dammit! "I'm the one that protects the Shatkona, and I should always assume that the enemy--the figurative enemy, because of course everyone loves the Shatkona, as they should-- has the same level of intelligence as myself, if not more."
He gave her an evil smirk. "Your response does you well," he said blandly. It made it sound as if he'd been testing her.

Koa snorted softly, the sound very uncharacteristic of the female. "While you are wise to be wary of lions in the pride, I for one cherish my life far too much to make such a move." That much was true. Though the life she was living couldn't be considered happy, she still had hope that someday in the future balance would return to her beloved pride.
"I am not stupid," she said evenly, her eyes locked on him. No, Koa was not stupid. She wasn't a clever female, really, nor did she have endless wisdom. "I know that my life could be snatched from me easily if you or another Ligi deemed it to be necessary." Koa shrugged.

"I'm not stupid, either. A huntress is the most necessary of them all," he said, yawning again. "Thank you, huntress, for the meal provided. You can go about your duties now." A clear dismissal, because if he didn't get rid of her who knew what else he would say?
Tiredness was making him stupid. He had to do something with that slave before she got him killed.

Koa opened her mouth as if she had more to say, but after a moment she closed it, teeth making an audible 'clack' as her mouth shut. With a shake of her head she turned around and carefully made her way back down the path. He was an odd one, that was for certain. Then again, most Ligi seemed to be.
