User Image"Dammit, where'd that fish face go...?" Celeste was chest deep in lake water and had been splashing around for the past fifteen minutes trying to get the attention of a particular resident. But it would seem that Mar had either left for the village before she arrived or he was just flat out ignoring her. Neither possibility would have surprised, but one would most definitely piss her off more. Not that should could do much about it except nag and poke at him until he went into hiding again. And with that figured out she dropped her nose into the lake, making her scarf inflate awkwardly around her face, and blew frustrated bubbles as she tried to decide what to do now.

Though she would never own up to such things, she really didn't like being away from Mar. It made her feel anxious and a little vulnerable. She thought too much about what could happen to keep him away from the lake and what could happen to her being alone and out in the open. Mar's warnings of other, less friendly Kelpi started to take hold in these situations, though it still didn't keep her out of the water. With another bubbly sigh, she decided to stay at the lake and wait for her friend to make an appearance.

Her daughter had wandered off once more. It wasn't unheard of for her kids to wander off on their own, after all they were adults now. It was only natural that they wish to see things that were outside of the herd. She just... worried a little about them. More so Briallan since the attack that had happened. With a heavy sigh, she pressed on. She'd worry more about her children as it drew closer to dark. For now, the day was rather lovely, the birds singing, the sun warming her through the trees.

It wasn't long till she found herself at the lake. The smell of water was thick in the air the closer she came to it. The sunlight dancer across the water, a lovely sight to look at. At least as long as she didn't have to get into it. There had been a time when she would have frolicked, played and other wise had fun in the water. That time was long behind her. The sea had caused a mental wound where water was concerned. She reflected back on what her mate had once said. "There are other soquili.. some that live within the water." He had stated. She frowned as she eyed the water, not yet noticing the other mare.

But Celeste had noticed Shoshana. Her scent had reached the winged mare as the other had approached the lake and Celeste's eyes were now locked onto her. She was always rather quick to judge others and, after taking in her long, luxurious hair and the roses she donned, it was assumed she was either a froo-froo, girly type or a tree-hugger. Neither of these was really appealing to Celeste in any way and she really had no desire to speak to this mare. But there was one thought that would inevitably convince her to do so; if this mare had come from the direction of the village she might have seen Mar along the way.

Begrudgingly, she moved towards the lake's edge to speak with the other mare. She decided to remain in the water though it wasn't even to her knees now. It comforted her somehow to know that the lake was right beneath her and wasn't going anywhere. Without even bothering to be formal in anyway, she raised a wing to get the other's attention and got straight to the point, "Hey, did you happen to see a big, blue guy with a fish tail on your way here?" She obviously didn't see a threat in Shoshana, otherwise she would have regarded her with at least a little bit more caution.

It was the wing's motion and voice that caught her attention. "A big blue guy?" For a moment her mind had fallen to her son. He was blue.. and not small in the least.. It was the mention of the fins and fish tail however that threw her off. "A fish tail? You mean those stories of Kelpi are actually true?" She nearly seemed shocked by this news. It fascinated her some to the point that she took a few steps towards the water. "I haven't seen him.. Sorry I couldn't be more help.. but could you tell me.. What are kelpi's like?" Her voice halted as her foot landed in the water. A shocked look hit her face as she looked at the water. Thoughts washed through her mind all at once.

A slight shudder ran down her spine as she slowly took a step away from the water. She'd drink the water just fine.. but being in the water was where she drew the line. It was strange... she could face and fight a Kalona.. but the water.. it was the bane of her existence.

That wasn't surprising. Disappointing, but she really hadn't expect this mare to have seen Mar. And Celeste was quite happy to end the conversation there if only Shoshana hadn't been so intrigued by the existence of Kelpi. Celeste's face showed her discontent at having to answer the question. She didn't know what Kelpi were like, Mar was the first one she'd ever met and he didn't exactly fit the standard. At least, the standard she was familiar with through the stories and what Mar had told her. Besides, she didn't want to talk to this strange mare about Mar, or anyone else for that matter. She wanted to keep what she thought of the stallion all to herself.

And, thankfully, she would get to keep her thoughts secret it would seem. Celeste arched a brow as Shoshana panicked slightly as she came into contact with the water. It had never occurred to her that someone could actually be afraid of the water. She herself had always been rather indifferent to it until she Mar. Now it was practically a second home to her though she couldn't actually live in it, "Are you alright....?" The question seemed to lack some concerned and instead sounded a bit more skeptical as if Celeste suspected this mare to be a little less than stable.

She looked back to the other mare and offered a friendly smile. "Yeah.. I just.. have a fear of water..." She gave a slight chuckle. "Wouldn't think it.. but I do.." Her ears gave a small flick. "I didn't use to be though.." She looked at the water once more. "But.. enough of that.. You most likely wouldn't with to hear an old mare's horror stories of a bad experience with the ocean. I'm Shoshana by the way." It appeared to her like the other mare was one who often kept to herself, avoiding the company of much o anyone else. Far be it from her to force others to simply put up with her idle chatter. If they were willing to have to company, she'd oblige but she wasn't going to out right force her presence on another. It wasn't like her. A simple greeting would suffice enough for now.

Shoshana had pretty much hit the nail on the head in her judgment of Celeste. But with Mar nowhere to be found and the village quite a ways off, she preferred this mare's company to being alone and vulnerable to whatever dangers could be waiting. So she tolerated the other mare's presence, though she found her fear of the water a bit ridiculous (though she had no room to speak considering her own fear of heights and flying). Settling down into the water, rather than leaving it for Shoshana's sake, she reciprocated the other mare's introduction with her own, "I'm Celeste."

"Celeste, It's a very pretty name. Pleasure meeting you." She looked at the water wearily as the other mare settled into it. Her own daughter had even learned to swim now, however it hadn't been herself or her mate who'd taught her. What was so nice about the water? Sure it was refreshing to lounge in it when the months were hot... but was it worth the risk of drowning? Lakes didn't have big waves.. but she'd mentioned a kelpi. Weren't kelpi supposed to be horrid creatures who played tricks on other soquili often luring them out into the deep before drowning them? Shaking the thought aside, she settled for resting in the mud. The mud wasn't something she had to worry about rising up against her to sweep her away. Mud was wet, cool and although it make interesting sucking sounds when your feet got stuck in it.. it was comfortable. She rather enjoyed mud unlike one of those preening primadonas who refused to do anything that could even remotely get a speck of dirt on them. She preferred excitement, adventures. Granted with keeping up with a herd and a family she didn't have much time for such things these days.. she still looked fondly back on the traveling and adventures she had had. She glanced from the water back to the other mare. "You seem quite fond of the water.." She offered a friendly smile as she shook aside her earlier thoughts.

Celeste was quite surprised to see Shoshana settling into the mud. With such a long and light colored mane and tail, she really assumed this mare wouldn't enjoy getting dirty. But here she was, seeming not to care one bit about the condition of her hair. Celeste ducked her nose into the water again and blew a few more bubbles while she chastised herself for making such a quick judgment. She should have known better than to assume such things, but some habits were just too hard to break.

And what did it really matter anyways? It's not like the other mare would ever know that Celeste had thought of her as a prissy female who was afraid of getting a little dirty. Not that Celeste would have to deal with this mare for long either. She would probably let her anti-social personality show, Shoshana would get the hint that she didn't really like talking to others and leave, never to be seen again. She grumbled at herself, a noise that was thankfully muffled by the water. This was why her only friend was an apathetic kelpi. Not that there was anything wrong with that, of course. She liked Mar, a lot more than she wanted to admit to. But maybe that fact did bother her just a little bit some times.

She sighed and lifted her nose out of the water. She had decided to make an effort not to push this mare away. Afterall, she seemed nice enough and it wouldn't kill her to try and be a bit nicer to other Soquili, "Yeah, it's kind of an important factor when you spend most of your time hanging around a kelpi."

"I see... Do you like to do any other things outside of the water? Maybe run around feel the breeze in your mane... Kick up your hind legs and run just for the sake of running?" She tried very much not to think of the water. After all.. it was just the lake.. not like a rogue wave would come to wash her away here...

Celeste had to think about this question for a moment. She really couldn't think of what she did like to do. Most of her time was spent at the lake, or some times at the village if she managed to annoy Mar enough to warrant her leaving the lake. All she could really think of that she liked doing was being around Mar, which inevitably led to her turning away as her face flushed slightly, "Not really....I mean, sometimes, I guess. But I like being near the water. I feel safer when I'm near it."

"I see then, I guess it's rather amusing how fate is.. You like the water. I'd rather not have much to do with it... But it's how the tree branch breaks I guess.. Perhaps you'd like to try something new?" She smiled warmly, always pleasant and friendly regardless of if some one was nasty or not. Her temper only ever seemed to be riled up if she was attacked or her family was in danger.

The water around Celeste shuddered as she shrugged in response to Shoshana's question, "Depends on what something is, I suppose." Truthfully, she didn't want to do anything but stay in the lake and wait for Mar. But the more she thought about that the more pathetic she felt. Always clinging to the stallion like a possum to its mother. It was a wonder he hadn't told her to buzz off yet. And maybe going off and doing something other than pestering him would keep that from ever happening. Which was why she was considering Shoshana's offering of "something new."

"Well.. I'd suggest a trip to the beach to run in the sand.. but the beach usually means the ocean and I'd rather avoid that big body of water if I can help it sooo..... hmmm.. how about a trip to the meadow? It's near buy and we can kick up our hooves lay back and act like silly foals if we want." She gave a friendly grin. Acting like a foal at her age, a mother of three and she felt like she could still act like a foal or at least a yearling. "Common, I'm sure your friend won't begrudge you a little girl time." She smiled once again and stood up, turning and starting off towards the meadow, her tail dragging through the mud and leaving it's drag mark along behind her.

Girl time really didn't sound like much fun to Celeste. In her mind that involved gossip, lots of giggling over stupid things and...well, being very girly. Something Celeste wasn't. At all. But she'd just have to suck it up and get over it because she needed to get away from the lake whether she liked it or not. Stepping out onto the lake's shore, she shook herself off as best she could and followed behind Shoshana, avoiding stepping on her tail, "Are you really that afraid of the water?" She really wasn't having an easy time comprehending such a thing since she'd never had a bad experience with it herself.
