Namir's life was almost complete. He had his beybanu Farrah, his banu Rana, his family all around him. All that was missing was cubs but he hoped that would be fixed soon, then again he was just enjoying living with his two loves in their den.

With a bemused shake of his head Namir put his mind back on the task at hand, finding the herbs he needed. Ever since he had returned from the rouge lands he searched for the plants his teacher said should grow near his home. He had found most but there were still a few he wanted to make sure didn't grow here. So far no one needed his services as a healer and Namir hoped it stayed that way but it never hurt to know where to look if he needed something quickly.

Badiah opened her eyes all at once and leapt to her feet. She at once squinted and growled as her head throbbed in protest and the pain in her leg woke up, and more gently she sat back on her haunches. Slowly, she glanced around, but the bully was gone. Her hair bristled in a ridge down her spine anyway and a snarl worked its way up her throat. It was the halting, tiny sound of a cub, but the anger under it was less adorable. He had… bit her. The mark was just where her hind leg joined at her side above the knee, and there was dried blood on the soft skin that stretched there. It probably wasn’t very bad, but there was dirt in it and Bad couldn’t reach it well enough to lick it clean.

She got up and took a few ginger steps, but the further back the rear leg stretched the more the spot stung, and she wasn’t relishing the walk back her mother’s den. And what would she say about the spot? If she could just clean the cut she could tell her mother she’d fallen on some sharp stick out by the thorn tree. She stopped and bent again to try licking the spot.

Namir was about to continue on his way when he heard a cub like snarl, it was soft and almost not there but something about it made his neck fur rise. There was real malice in that snarl.

Looking around he quickly spotted a cub, a young cub, walk a few steps before stopping and trying to clean a spot on her back leg. He cautiously came closer and saw that she would be unable to reach the place that seemed to have dried blood on it. "Do you need help?"

Bad’s head rose in a snap and for a moment her ears were pressed back and eyes narrowed in a near-feral expression of challenge. She blinked, immediately clearing the expression, when she saw the large blue male wasn’t the youth from before. “I, um…”

She glanced down at the injury, thinking quickly and then looked back up at him more meekly. “Yes? It kinda hurts to walk.” Not knowing the male’s skill, she thought she could play the bite would off as a normal scratch of some sort. And maybe he could help her after all.

Namir approached carefully. The cub agreed to his help but that didn't mean that he expected her to be happy about it. As he got closer he noticed that the blood was in a pattern and he hoped that it wasn't what it seemed. First and foremost it had to be cleaned. Since the nearest water source was the lake that left the traditional method.

This created a conundrum for him. As a pad he shouldn't really even be talking to the young banu, but since she was a cub that rule was a bit lax, let alone touch her. But as a healer he had to clean that wound or it could get infected. The two sides of himself argued but it didnt take long for the healer in him to win. It was a cub he was helping and if anyone had a issue he would stick by his choice.

He stepped closer and crouched down so he could look her in the eye, not yet touching her. "We have to clean it and as you cant reach it that leaves me. If you would rather I can find your Pad and have him do it. It is your decision but the sooner it is made the better." He would rather have just started to help her but he also didn't want to scare her so the cautious path was what he would follow.

Badiah glanced away as he examined the wound. She didn’t have any qualms about being stared at, but he’d probably be more comfortable eyeing her leg without her staring at him. Maybe he’d actually have some good advice.

Even better, he had an offer. When he crouched down she looked at him and studied his face directly. Her ears twitched as she thought. Of course, he didn’t want to startle her. If anyone were to wander by and see her yelping next to the massive Pad, some rather unfortunate assumptions could be made. “Do whatever you need to. I don’t mind,” she said with certainty.

Namir still hesitated even though the cub said that he could help. Everything he had learned when he was growing up screamed at him to find her Pad and get his permission but Namir knew that the wound had to be cleaned or it could get infected and that was not something he wanted on his head. So with a nod he quickly and efficiently cleaned the wound.

It was shallow and wouldn't likely scar but it was the shape that made him back up in anger. He figured it was from a branch or a fall but it was a bite mark. Someone had bit her hard enough to draw blood. Namir smothered the anger rising in him. He didn't know who did it or why they did it, maybe it had been justified.... elephant dung. To his mind there was no justification to biting a cub hard enough to draw blood, not even in play. When it came to discipline a normal cuff should have done it not a bite.

With great mental will Namir pushed back his anger until he could work around it. He gathered a few plants near by that he knew would help prevent infection, as well as a flat rock. He smashed the plants together into a kind of paste on the rock and gently placed it on the cub's bite mark. "Hold still just a few more moments." He was still holding back his anger and it could be heard in his voice but it was quite clear that it wasn't directed at the cub. Larger leaves and some quickly braided grass created a very rough bandage.

Bad glanced away, pretending to ignore the male as he cleaned the wound. She was less concerned about it than he. She was too young yet to have been impressed with all of the pride’s customs, and while she didn’t enjoy being touched by a stranger or having his big poofy mane in her face (they still seemed silly to her), he was at least as gentle as her mother and it didn’t hurt much anyway.

Even if she had been concerned with social law, what was more troubling was a wave of dizziness that was overcoming her. She might have noticed the subtle changes in Namir’s expression indicating something was amiss if it hadn’t been for her head spinning. With that feeling came a sense of dread. She’d only been dizzy like this once before, and it had been long enough ago that she’d thought it wouldn’t come again. At least, she had hoped it wouldn’t.

She only lately noticed the Pad’s aggravation in his voice after he’d cleaned her leg, but her head was bothering her too much to make sense of it. Why was he angry at her? He’d been the one to offer aid, and while she usually seemed to get on stranger’s nerves, she didn’t think she’d said anything off-colored. The spinning ache in her head was aggravating her too much to figure it out and too much to be patient about it though, and her tail twitched in subtle aggravation. She would normally have been impressed and curious about what he was doing, but her mood didn’t lead her to friendly questions. “What’s the matter? Did I do something?” Her eyes were squinted slightly against the persistent dizziness, but in light of the moment her expression was challenging.

Namir was so focused on containing his anger and keeping his mind set on his bandage that it took him a moment to process her words. "No. Oh no you didn't do anything I'm just mad that this happened to you." He looked at her, really looked at her and noticed that her tail was twitching in aggravation, her eyes were squinted, and she seemed to be a bit disoriented. In a few quick moves he removed his bandage, worried that the cub was having an reaction to his healing;it was something his teacher did warn him of. The bite marks were clear and only a bit red, not puffy or anything else that would indicate a reaction. What else could be causing her reaction?

Namir crouched down so he could look her in the eyes. "Now I need you to answer a few questions? Do you know where you are? Do you know your name? What color is the sky? How is your leg feeling? Are you having trouble breathing?" He racked his brain for any other questions to ask that might indicate shock or other problems. He silently wished his teacher was here to help him but he was on his own.

Mad that this happened to her? He was supposed to think the bite was a normal cut, something as if she’d got caught in briars maybe, or had a tumble on a sharp rock. It didn’t make any sense to be mad about, unless he was irritated she’d hurt herself so easily, or maybe that her mother wasn’t present and doing anything about it. She couldn’t make much sense of it, and had to dismiss the problem as he crouched and started asking questions. “South of the den,” she muttered, only reluctantly meeting his gaze. “I’m Badiah. Blue. It feels better without the dirt and gunk in it. No, I’m just…” While the questions had dragged on she had blinked several times, trying to keep her eyes clear and focused. Thankfully she was sitting, but she had to play a double game of concentrating on the random questions and trying to not look woozy, but she was failing her last goal. “I’m just… tired, okay?” There was nothing she wanted as much right now as for him to go away right now, or at least for the dizziness to ease up, but her luck was more abysmal than that. Her sight was becoming clouded by a second image that blurred over Namir’s face. Rather suddenly, her eyes pinched closed and she slumped to the ground in a wobbling but controlled sort of collapse. She could still feel the ground beneath her, the faint sting where her leg joined to her side, the heat of the day pressing down on her, but her other senses were robbed of her control.

The image that had been clouding her sight gained sudden focus against, and for a moment she was further disoriented by seeing the helpful Pad at a distance, without his mane. No, it was a lioness of similar coloring. There were others though, and their colors blurred enough to make them seem a family, though Bad wasn’t nearly aware enough to guess their relations to one another. They mingled, talking over each other so Bad couldn’t tell what was said. This scene lasted only a moment before shifting suddenly and the lioness suddenly seemed to loom over Bad, the sky behind her now a crystal shade of pale blue. Her expression was soft and almost mournful, and though she was speaking, all Bad could heard was a rushing sound, like blood in her ears, or wind ripped through a narrow opening. She was able to read the words ‘love,’ ‘with,’ and ‘remember,’ but her sight shifted again. The rapid changes were making her queasy even in her trance, but at least everything returned to the familiar first scene. The group of lions wasn’t milling around talking anymore though. Silence reined and they all sat, still, heads bowed. The entire vision faded to black before Bad could be sure, but she didn’t think she spotted the talking lioness there.

She blinked rapidly, turning her head and glancing about in some confusion at her surroundings. Her dizziness had dissipated instantly, along with all hint of what she thought she’d seen. She felt as if she’d jumped bolt upright from a dream.

Namir listened to the cub's answers closely. They were clear and concise. She didn't hesitate on any answer other then how she felt but still Namir hesitated. Badiah, the cub, still seemed to have trouble focusing and appeared dizzy. Neither were true signs of allergic reaction or shock but he was not about to chance it being either. Again he checked her bite mark but it looked fine, it was scabbing over already and in a day or so it would heal with little to no scar.

When Badiah slumped to the ground Namir knew something more was going on, something he didn't know how to deal with. In a quick and decisive move he picked her up and stared to head south, that was where she said her den was. With luck he would find her den and be able to ask what was going on. She had no true actions of one in shock or allergic reaction, the bite to her leg would not account for her collapse. The only thing he could think of was it being a family trait and in which case talking to her pad would be the best thing he could do.

Badiah blinked and squinted, trying to understand why she was still disoriented. During her waking dreams she maintained her own sense of touch and direction, but she had attributed her woozy feeling to the fit and it wasn’t until opening her eyes that she realized she was moving. Not only moving, but being carried.

Something about being grabbed by the neck that way usually made it difficult to move much. In fact, it was usually calming – but she overcame that in struggling now. “Put me DOWN!” she demanded and started to twist, ineffectually trying to scratch her way to freedom. She couldn’t have done any damage to Namir this way, but Namir would have had to bite rather hard to keep hold of the squirming cub. “Let me GO, I’m fine you big oaf!”

((Sorry about the huge delay, RL got mean for a while there. We can wrap this up in another post or two. <3))

Namir quickly put down the struggling cub. She seemed to have overcome her earlier dizziness and was back to her normal way. Silently Namir feared that if her attitude was normally like this she would have a very difficult life in the pride. Then again who wouldn't be snapping to find oneself being carried by a strange male, even one who just helped you, after being so disoriented earlier to the point of collapse.

With Badiah on the ground the large lion placed a calming paw lightly on her head. "Calm down. You collapsed and I thought it would be best to find your Pad. I had never seen such a reaction to the herbs or the shock from the bite mark." He looked at her with a critical eye; her eyes were clear and alert, she was active, seemed to be in perfect heath, even the bite mark had scabbed over and was now covered by her fur. With a smile Namir removed his paw and said quietly, "I don't know what caused your collapse but if your sharp tongue is any indication you are quite fine now." His admonishment was slight and said with a smile. Having spirit was something he looked for in others and Badiah seemed to have it to spare.
