Ewa'dufu was very busy it seemed, her rump in the air, ear pressed to the ground. She listened for a few seconds and then hopped a few paces forwards, continued to listen and hopped forward. The little lioness was very close to her family, Mama Tabia, Kikimu, and Anju were all near by, along with her Daddy. He was her absolute favorite lion in the whole world, there couldn't be anyone in the world that could sullen her love and adoration for her father. Not even Mama Anju.

Hopping again she listened, there was something moving under the ground and it was making very strange noises! What could it be?

Despite every reasonable expectation one might have of Ahnik, he was actually a loving father. His pride extended to each of them, even to Ewa, just as they were. He did not feel the need to push them to be better, he was confident they would just be great. He had his concerns about Anju's attitudes misleading them but he knew he had Tabia and, more importantly, Kikimu on his side.

While his banu kept the boys busy, Ewa had been able to wander off a bit- but Ahnik was making sure to keep an eye on her. For a while, he didn't bother intervening but eventually curiosity won out and he decided he just had to investigate. He stepped carefully, hoping not to add to whatever sounds were in the ground, stopping some feet away from his daughter, watching her. He didn't say a word at first, only smiled.

For a moment her hopping back and forth stopped and Ewa's tilted her head curiously. Whatever was making the noise stopped it's burrowing and was sitting quietly beneath the ground, the cub could no longer hear the creature.

"Where'd you go?" she asked a little giggle ended her inquiry. She pressed her ear back to the ground and then stopped, there was another sound. Turning she saw Ahnik.

"Oh, it's you, Daddy!" She exclaimed and, ignoring her quest to find whatever was in the ground she bounded toward him.

Ahnik watched as Ewa's hunt ended abruptly, chuckling when she looked up and saw him. It was good practice, playing games like this. It didn't take a lot of wondering to figure out something had to be under there that she had been listening to, tracking. Of course, the boys wouldn't really need the same practice, where their banu would hunt for them.. though perhaps it would help them in their capturing banu. He glanced over his shoulder quickly, wondering if he ought to get them over here to play with her.

"Having fun over here?" he asked.

"I am, but whatever was walking underground stopped," she frowned, "It made very weird noises, like this," she made an odd chittering noise and then giggled. She didn't see the game as practice for the future, she just saw it as fun.

"I was pretending," she looked at him for approval, "Maybe the other thing underground is another little girl, and she's whispering to me, and we could play together. Like she could be just like me, with only brothers. no sisters," she nodded. It would be very nice to have a friend that was a girl, sometimes boys just didn't understand. But, Ewa would do her best to understand them, they were her brothers after all, and they were male. Mama always says it's very good to listen to the boys.

"Is that very silly to think and pretend?"

"Hmm, I wonder what it is that's down there?" he said when she explained what she had been doing and what the funny creature had sounded like, looking down to the ground. It would be a rodent of some sort, maybe, but what exactly he couldn't say without looking.

Ahnik looked back up when Ewa explained what she was pretending, somewhat surprised by the game she was playing. He had been very aware of the fact she was the only girl, it would be harder than being the only boy around here, he figured. There were still plenty of females in the family, just not her age.

"It's not silly to pretend," he said, pondering getting the boys over here to play with her but guessing that wasn't exactly what she was looking for when pretending there was another girl around to play with, "I suppose it would be nice having other little girls around here, wouldn't it?"

"I'm almost positive that it isn't really another girl," she nodded slowly thinking about that fact, almost "I think it might be one of those silly meerkats, or something like that, something that digs holes and hides." Ewa liked to watch things and learn about them, she'd seen small animals run in holes away from an adult, so that must be it.

"Oh good, because I like to pretend," she beamed at him.

"Oh, I didn't mean that it was bad only playing with the boys,I really like playing with them. It would be sort of nice to have a friend who was my age, and someone who liked to do girl things." What girl things for a cub were exactly wasn't clear.

Ahnik smiled at the cleverness of his daughter but did not comment on it just now. She was very observant and so she was smart, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. It was just something else to think about in vague ponderings of what the future held for her.

"I know what you meant, don't worry," he said, taking a seat and positioning himself so he could also see his lionesses from where he was while chatting with Ewa.

"I think we all need to be a little more social," he said, looking down to Ewa, "Perhaps we could meet some little girls from other families for you to play with, would you like that?"

Keeping Anju under control had limited some of their branching out and socializing but she was stuck now, with her mate now Ahnik's Beybanu and the only one to have his cubs, who all were being taught to appreciate and accept the ways of the pride. There was no reason they could not really settle in and join the larger community.

"That would be so fun!" She nodded and performed a little hop in place, "Only if Mihr, Sohrab, and Lufti can come too." She thought that it would be pretty weird not having her brothers around, besides they need friends also, right? It was only proper that they all make friends together...wasn't it?

"I think it would be sort of scary if they weren't nearby," Ewa concluded aloud.

"Could we find other little girls that want to play with them too? Like we could find another family, and they could all be like us?" She was envisioning other lions that looked like her Mamas. but different colors, and had little girls and boys that matched them.

"We could go swimming, and figure out what's in the ground together," her voice was almost far away and dreamy as she expressed her thoughts out loud.

"Of course, your brothers need to socialize, too," he said, "We all need it, I think. I'm sure swimming would be a good idea, there's bound to be plenty of other lions around water."

It was cute how eager she was to have more cubs to play with, it was too bad it wasn't really reasonable to get her some sisters to play with. Tabia would certainly have cubs but that was best left for a while longer, it was better that Tabia not have anything slowing her down until they were all quite comfortable. No, socializing was a good idea.

"How about we go see if anybody wants to go to the waterhole now?"

The wateringhole! How super, she was certain that her daddy had some of the best ideas ever, he always knew exactly what to say and was such a good lion. She hopped in place and cheered.

"Yeah! we can all go, maybe there will be people to play with, and those little shiny things that play in the water." She couldn't think of the word fish, but they were the little animals to her that shone in the sun. "I hope they want to goooo." she nearly squealed with delight and started to scurried toward the group of banus and her brothers.

Ahnik chuckled watching Ewa take off for her family to ask (probably demand) they go out and meet others in the pride. After all, it was his idea and so she would be right enough to suggest it with some force. He wasn't too worried about it as he followed after her.

This would be fun, even he thought so.

Fin.
